I enjoyed my first Cafe Baklava Mediterranean food experience today at this small quiet restaurant located in downtown Mountain View. We went here earlier today for lunch around 2pm. There were 3 tables outdoor with 4 seats and are near heat lamps, plus 2 more smaller tables near the door. We were lucky that one of the tables by the heat lamp freed up when we got there. We looked at their menu and they have a good variety of food options for appetizers, salads, main dishes, wraps, and others. We ordered Calamari and Grilled Eggplant for the appetizers and Vegetarian and Fish Wraps for our main. We were not in the mood for rice. They served pita bread while we're waiting. I also tried their $8 Mimoza. It was served in a small flute glass, I can taste champagne and just a right amount of orange. I felt it was a bit pricey, but the taste was a little more refined than the cheaper ones. Calamari was served first. They look good. The texture was also good enough, but I've had better ones. The batter could use a bit more seasoning because it tastes more floury, or maybe just a dash of pepper might help. The squid meat was easy to bite though, so it was cooked properly. The dipping sauce tastes good too. The Grilled Eggplant arrived next. It's made of sliced eggplant, rolled, filled with goat cheese and other herbs in the middle, topped with tomato based type of sauce. I love it. The creamy filling and the grilled eggplant mixed well for my palate. Our wraps arrived a few minutes after we finished our appetizer. We ate the Vegetarian Wrap first. It was a nice combination of eggplant, onions, red pepper, and others. They are all cooked properly and goes together. The Pita bread used to wrap it has a nice char too. We were full already by the time we finished the first wrap so we just took home the Fish Wrap. It took us about an hour to eat and 15 minutes for the check out. We already asked for the box, but I think they are being polite and waiting for us to ask for the check. After we did, it went by smooth. We end up being charged $65 for the four plates + tax + tip, we ended up with $82 check for 2 people. The people are nice and offered choices for us. They also cleaned up the plates fast. They wear masks all throughout. Overall I think it was a good dining experience. I will remember this place in case I craved for Mediterranean again. read more

stopped by here at 7 on a friday night and were seated immediately. it's a cute and cozy restaurant on castro with a romantic vibe and lots of wine bottles and colored glass lamps. they have a decently selection of wine and cocktails, but we just stuck with water and started off with the complimentary pita and the octopus appetizer. the pita was warm and came with this olive oil and garlicky tomato dip that was absolutely delicious and a lot more exciting than the typical bread and butter. the octopus was nice and tender, served with tomatoes, onion, and arugula. for entrees we had the manti and moussaka. the manti has a generous topping of lemony yogurt sauce and spiced butter. i wish the manti had a little more meat flavor, but otherwise it was quite tasty. the moussaka was the real star. it was so rich and flavorful and i would definitely get it again. we finished off with the dinner with kunefe. it's one of my favorite desserts and totally hit the spot! maybe it was slightly too sweet for my taste but my boyfriend loved it. service was great and super fast read more

Visiting from Houston, we were shocked to see the many closed storefronts on Castro St., including many of our favorite ethnic restaurants. We were happy to find that Cafe Baklava was open with both indoor and outdoor seating. We were welcomed warmly and ordered from the many wonderful Turkish dishes. The complimentary hot pita bread with herbed olive oil was a delicious starter. The Lamb Moussaka was rich and savory. My husband opted for the Grilled Salmon with Rice Pilaf and Grilled Vegetables, and was very happy with the large serving of salmon complimented with a delicious tomato sauce. We had an underwhelming experience here on a weeknight. We got seated inside right away which was great and the appetizer pita bread with olive oil dip was yummy but then it went downhill from there. Service took a while and our main entrees didn't come until at least an hour after we had sat down. Seemed like they were understaffed. I think I've eaten here many years ago. I came because i was craving Mediterranean and Yelp brought it up. Very good food, amazing service, by people who you could see they cared you leave there happy. I ordered a bass. It was great. My husband got the vegetarian pide. Their pomegranate juice was flavorful and at the end we shared a kuneffe. I recommend this cute restaurant. Favorite restaurant. In my opinion, the best restaurant among all the restaurants that I have eaten at is Baklava. It has the best food, and it makes you feel like you are in a cafe in Turkey. Baklava has great food. When you sink your teeth into a fresh dolma, the sweet, sour, and salty tastes wash over your mouth like a refreshing shower. They have the best smelling bread. And the heavenly soup of the day is more tasty than you can imagine. I recommend it only for the Turkish emperors and empresses. In my opinion, Baklava serves the best food out of all the Turkish restaurants that I know of. Food is not the only thing that is amazing about Baklava. Though you are actually on a busy street in Mountain view California, when you walk into the restaurant, you feel like you are a pretty lady in Turkey. And as you look through that cafe window at Istanbul, you acknowledge what a beautiful city you are in and what a nice little cafe you stumbled upon. Plus the food is really good. So it's all worth it. 2. Limited but nice options for vegetarians. 3. Everything from complimentary pita bread to dessert was amazing. Their pita bread is super soft and served hot. And the good part is you get it refilled as many times you like. That side along with pita bread (olive oil+ something) is also yummy. 4. Cacik is such an amazing discovery. It's like hummus made from yogurt instead of chickpeas. Highly recommend it. 5. Vegetarian kebab is good - although you only get two falafel in there. 6. The cafe name is based on baklava, so I had to try it. It gets a 10/10 rating. 7. I couldn't get the falafel wrap (only served during lunch time) 8. Cafe Baklava has the ambiance and the food is fantastic. I love a great spanakopita and they sure did it well. The portions of the salmon sandwich were perfect for my girlfriend and I, and we chose the salad (dressing on the salad was perfect): their starter for the meal, the bread, was deadly with the nice soft tomato sauce dipper! The service was great as well and we were the only two seated indoors, which gave us a lot of attention from the employees. I am a sucker for a fresh mojito during the summer as well and recommend their ocean mojito from the special drinks menu - flavorful and not overly sweet! A long-standing food spot in downtown mountain view. I have tried several dishes here and my best impression are the complimentary tomato dip sauce and the chicken kebab. I also tried a grilled fish and recently a lamb maussaka. They are all good and more restaurant-quality than the new Mediterranean fast food place at the beginning of Castro Street. The selection of drinks here is really festive. I haven't tried an alcohol drink yet; I really want to. Everytime I got the sahlep which is a hearty milky drink made from orchid root powder. It tastes like a rich hot white chocolate. This place is definitely an excellent place to get introduced to authentic Turkish and Mediterranean food. I've had delivery many times over the last few years, but this was the first time I've eaten here in person in their outside section. The pita bread with that dipping oil was really good. The pitas were warm and soft but nicely crispy on the outside. The oil sauce I think had tomatoes that went well with the pitas. It had the chicken wrap which had a good amount of chicken in a crispy lavash wrap. The service was somewhat awkward and not very attentive, though they were good about filling up water glasses. It took longer than expected for the food to arrive and almost gave us other people plates. Cute little spot on Castro st. When you 1st walk in... it looks small but it's kinda of a narrow restaurant that extends far to the back with tables. It has a cozy feel. Service was attentive and friendly. I love Turkish food and everything tasted well seasoned. They have a nice menu too with plenty of grilled veggie options and salads. It was hard to choose. *Beef salad, tasty! Loved the grilled eggplant! Yumm! I call it the beef salad because I forgot the name, my bad. Good size portions and luckily we shared it!
