Stopped by today for lunch and had a great burger. It was their regular, basic hamburger. It was perfectly done, nice and juicy and a great bun. It was loaded with pickles, plenty of tomatoes and nice fresh lettuce. No skimping like happens so often when you get a burger. I split it and the fries that are included, with a friend and it was plenty for both of us. Very pleasant service. The place was half full with happy looking diners. I also hit this place up for breakfast last month. I was really pleasantly surprised. I had tried this place about a year ago Great service and a really nice combination egg, bacon and pancake. My friend had the eggs Benedict which she thoroughly enjoyed. I'm going to get that next time. The menu has a nice range of options and the quality of the food is consistent. The cafe is not very large - sometimes it's quiet and others raging with families. Cafe Bliss? More like "Cafe Purgatory". This was our second venture to this place. The first was about a year ago, and the experience was dismal. We figured if they were still in business after all this time, they must have ironed out their service wrinkles. That assumption would be wrong. Our sequel was déja vu. Upon walking in, the waitress had us stand for about 5 minutes before cleaning a vacant table. Once we sat down, I stopped my wife from sitting in a bunch of salt and crumbs on the bench, which I brushed off with my own hands. We sat there for about 25 minutes before the waiter took our order. The entire staff was running around like wild banshees - it was very chaotic. But for all the madness, not much food or drink was making its way out of the kitchen. The place is quite small to begin with, seats maybe 35 people, and it was not even at full capacity. So it was very peculiar. Finally, about 45-50 minutes into our wait, the first of our 3 orders arrived: 2 eggs, a cup of fruit and an English muffin. I could have taken a rickshaw to a market on the east coast, returned with groceries on the back of a tortoise and cooked it myself in half the time. It would be another 5 minutes before our other two orders would trickle out: one chorizo wrap and one crepe. The lady next to us had to request a menu after patiently waiting at her table for about 10 minutes. I looked at her and shook my head in disdain, she helplessly shrugged in return. Our food was not bad, but it was somewhat uneventful and slightly bland. The meager serving of potatoes was the best part. Finally, we brought up our credit card, and once we got our receipt we found we had been charged for the wrong table. The owner had no idea how to re-access our order in the computer, so we had to read her everything we ordered so she could bill us again. Not once did the owner or any staff apologize for the poor service, in fact, they seemed rather oblivious there was any problem at all. I guess this is par for the course at Cafe Bliss. On the way out, the waiter wished us a great rest of our Sunday. It was Saturday. Totally incompetent. The owner must reeeeeeeally hate customers, or believe he or she can survive by running through them like Kleenex - never building a local regular business. Arriving with my elderly father we seated ourselves (so far ok). A pleasant but harried waitress takes our order. My tea is put on the table with no mention of sugar or milk or anything. I waived it down at got it in time to sweeten my now-cold tea. Thanks! Then... the wait begain. 20 minutes into it I'm flailing my arms and asking "What's the story," to which waitress replies "Oh that's a complicated salad." Her face gave it away. She was bullsh*tting and knew it. Nothing remotely complicated about that salad. You know how I know? 40 MINUTES AFTER PLACING THE ORDER THE GIRL IN THE KITCHEN WAS ASSEMBLING IT IN FRONT OF ME. FORTY MINUTES. 40 MINUTES LATER, THE DRESSING WAS HITTING THE GREENS. 40 MINUTES. The kitchen is staffed by two slow girls who, I'd guess, may be related to the owner or are "protected" in some way. The wait staff will NOT ride them, correct them or direct them at all. So the kitchen girls take their sweet time, and while seeing me stand there speaking plainly to both wait staff - in even tone being upset but not heated - they ignored it all and went about their business as though there were no such thing as customers. You know what I saw? A look of contempt on both of their faces for the wait staff... as though wait staff were necessary evils, and customers too, an inconvenience. Three - 3 - tables seated long after us got their meals on the way. All grill dishes: breakfast or burgers,. Our "salads" required a - gasp - change of focus away from the grill. No can do when Princess Space Lilly I'll Do It When I'm Damn Good And Ready is on the job. Who are these girls? Minor royalty? Cause they act like it's ok to not care at all, and they showed every evidence of treating the wait staff with contempt. This is a DEEPLY DYSFUNCTIONAL ESTABLISHMENT. I'd advise against wasting your time and money here. One more thing. A priceless window into the owner's mindset. After this debacle and my asking for the order to go, I looked at the full freight bill and said "I see you're not offering any discount at all despite the fact that my elderly father didn't eat and both of us have waited 40 minutes before receiving salad in plastic bags... My experience here this morning was horrible! First of all, when we sat down the place wasn't that busy. We ordered and then waited 50 minutes (I know this to the date because I received a text right after I ordered) before our food came out. The waitress didn't check on us, didn't let us know that the food was delayed, and other people came and ate and went while we waited. So after waiting 50 minutes, we decided to just leave and it happened to be when our food arrived so we asked to take the food togo. The waitress sighed at us and proceeded to slam plates and boxes together while she was packing up our food. She was obviously mad that we were leaving and while I was paying she was grumbling under her breathe behind the counter. So we take our food home and open it to find out that I have cheese in my crepe (which I asked to not have since I am lactose intolerant)! Feng and her family are among the nicest people you will ever meet. If you are looking for a fast food restaurant, this isn't for you. All the food is made fresh to order and delivered hot to the table. During busy times, expect to wait your turn for delicious food. Came here with a friend for a late brunch today. Service is slow. Really really slow. It took about 10 minutes for me to get the water I asked for when I sat down. They really just need to hire more servers for the weekend brunch rush. The food itself is good. I had the Bliss scramble. Everything was cooked well and the potatoes were well flavored. My friend seemed to enjoy her poached eggs as well. Now the reason for the 2 star review: portions and price. I thought for $10 I didn't get much food. If they want to do a 2-egg scramble they could at least be more generous with the potatoes or add a little salad on the side. Just seemed expensive for what I got. Lastly, and most importantly, my friend asked to substitute sausage for bacon with her eggs. They charged her $1.25 to just switch it. That is about the tackiest thing I have ever seen. I guess lunch menu doesn't start 'til 11. Anyway, the food was fresh and decent, fries were good and crisp (not garlicky fwiw). The club was ok - really no middle bread? Is it really still a club sandwich? Turkey could be upgraded, it was the usual water-injected bland crap that passes for turkey deli meat these days. WAY skimpy on the bacon. Tuna a bit bland. So - all in all this was somewhere between 3 and 4 stars but I decided to round down for one simple reason - that whole "add $1 on Saturday or Sunday" for the morning wraps. Today was my first time going into this small, quaint cafe I have passed by regularly for years. The waitress is very warm and fairly attentive. I had the Chipotle BBQ chicken sandwich that was topped with red onions, pickles, lettuce and other treats. The bread it came on was phenomenal and very fresh. The mixed green salad was pretty plain and the raspberry vinaigrette nondescript. The crowd was predominantly senior citizens and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Breakfast is served all day. Deb is quite rude and we can tell she doesn't want to work. Though you can taste the passion in their food, you will not feel it from the way the waitress treated you. Many times that we feel that we are harassed and not welcomed. I wouldn't call that experience welcoming nor friendly. It's a nice a little spot in belmont, close to my work so I go here during my lunch break. The service can be a little slow at times once you're done, which when I'm in a hurry to get back to work can be a little frustrating. But they're very nice here. I haven't tried any breakfast items yet but the lunch is good. I tried the Greek gyro with a salad and I liked it a lot. It had plenty of yogurt sauce, onions, cucumber and tomatoes. The meat was tasty for being a non Greek place. I've also had the caprese sandwich in the past and liked that very much as well. My friend had the fish and chips, which she enjoyed. Instead of fries I got the side salad and the dressing was sweet and tangy. I ate it all. I'll be back to try one of their burgers soon. read more

This is a cute local small spot that is pleasing to the eyes and belly, but I have started to question the quality. I am a foodie and aware of all the unnatural and organic foods out there too. There are lots of alternatives for local organic foods and a lot of restaurants don't step it up in that regards so that's why only 3 stars. I went in and ordered my usual almond milk latte to find out they don't offer it anymore bc it would go bad. There were actually no milk alternatives available at all...I find this absurd as lots of people are lactose intolerant and can't have dairy/milk products. I question the quality of the foods as I saw the owner bring in boxes of food and milk from Costco (Kirkland Brand) as this shows me the true quality. It seems to me that this cafe is just like all the rest of the cafes out there using marginal ingredients to make a buck. Use your judgement on where you want to spend your money. Great for dinner, too! Innovative, fresh California-style options in simple, elegant and intimate surroundings. Nicest staff. We were treated to a complimentary appetizer salad of fresh greens wrapped in a thin cucumber slice topped with a delicious balsalmic reduction and sprinkled slivered roasted beet chips. Yumm... We had capellini with seared scallops in a white wine sauce which was creamy and mild and also tried the salmon filet nicoise salad with perfectly spiced greek olives and lovely soft white pearl potatoes. The salmon was grilled to perfection and served hot making a nice contrast with the salad. Dinner is served with warm soft, squishy rolls that drink up the seasoned butter. Tonight they had 3 homemade soups as well (lentil, cream of mushroom and tomato bisque.) Plenty of drinks to choose from including wine, homemade lemonade, Italian sodas and espresso drinks. They also have homemade desserts and specialize in cobblers. Until they get busy, this seems like the kind of friendly place you might sneak out to just for dessert and coffee, a rarity on the Peninsula. Prices very reasonable at $13-15 for an entree. Wish we could like it more since it's so close to our house. My first experience was a lunch and I had the Thai salad which was truly delicious - fresh and full of great flavors and Thai herbs and spices. So I suggested the family try breakfast and have been twice with similar experiences. It's like they just can't quite pull all the pieces together. Looks nice from the outside, but the lighting is uncomfortable - wall sconces that alternatively shine right in your face and yet don't provide enough light. It was cold this morning, but they didn't respond with more heat - almost all the customers kept their coats on. Servers who seem helpful, but just don't have the timing and coordination down. Food that comes early, late - our daughter was completely finished 5 minutes before we even got our food. Not consistent temperatures (cold eggs, hash was warm in the center, but cold around the edges) pancakes that are somehow both rubbery and falling apart. The bacon was excellent and I love the flavors and textures in the chunky, homemade corn-beef hash. It's just too inconsistent to ever become a favorite. I give them 2 stars for service and 4 stars for food quality. I've been there twice, both times on a Sunday afternoon and had to endure TERRIBLE service both times. The first experience I figured because the place was sort of busy I understood why it took them so long to prepare a table for us, so long to finally take our order, and dreadfully long to serve the food. However I was just there this Sunday and it was not busy at all and had the same slow as molasses service. It was like a Keystone Cops operation with neither of the two servers knowing what the other was doing. At some point I heard one of them loudly apologize to a customer who was very upset about the wait to give her order. From the time we arrived to the time we paid the bill almost 2 hours had passed. OK enough of the gawdawful service, on to the food: It's very tasty! I've had all sorts of tuna salad and theirs is among the best. It is made with onions and spices and tastes very fresh. The crepes with gravy is also delicious with the gravy being very creamy and of obvious high quality ingredients. The baked macaroni and cheese is also terrific and is served in an oval dish with a slight crust of crunchy cheese on top. Nice portions too, not too much or too little. If only they could get their act together on the service I'd go there more. The food is almost worth putting up with the disorganized operation. But I won't be back anytime soon. read more

Bliss is hit and miss. I've had decent service, but then I've had cold food and apathetic waitresses who are off gossiping or on their iphones instead of checking if you need anything. We were stranded with no silverwear but had the food delivered- couldn't even find anyone to ask for more silverwear. I'm a regular long-time customer of Cafe Bliss and it makes me sad to see mediocre reviews for this gem of a place, and it's all just because of one issue. The service is good, but not quick. They are simply not a place that is designed to get you in an out at a brisk pace. Food: The food is really fantastic. It's consistent, varied and delicious. Literally everything I or any of my guests have had over many years has been good to great. This is hands down one of the top 5 breakfast places I've ever been to (and the lunch is great too). Under different circumstances this could be one of those widely acclaimed 'destination' restaurants, the kind that show up in guide-books with lines around the block. Service: The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere is pleasant and homey. On the weekends it is usually busy and boisterous. The only drawback is that they are not quick. If you have places to be and things to do, if you're going to be staring at your watch, or if you're going to be frustrated because you haven't seen your server in several minutes, then you should probably go somewhere else. But if you want top tier food and a friendly relaxed atmosphere, and you don't mind a comfortable pace, then this is probably the best brunch type diner I have ever eaten at. read more

Bliss! This is our weekly brunch spot. There is occasionally a wait, but in that case a walk through the neighboring nursery will pass the time. The menu includes breakfast and lunch items. I've tried lots of things, but the Bliss Scramble stands out. Also their fruit cup is decidedly above par, with a variety of fruits instead of being a bowl of soggy melon. The wait staff is awesome! They are cheerful, friendly, and helpful. When we showed up with 5 instead of our usual 2 on a busy morning, they quickly rearranged things to accommodate us. You will not regret eating here! This is the best breakfast place in Belmont and maybe all of the peninsula. I've eaten here every Saturday for the past month. I've had several things off their menu and everything I've had has been absolutely scrumptious. Currently I am addicted to their buckwheat blueberry pancakes. They are hands down the best pancakes I have ever had, EVER! James switches it up with their menu but most regularly orders their bacon and egg breakfast. He said their bacon and eggs are some of the best he's ever had. Aside from their food their service is wonderful. They are so friendly and are always quick with a refill of coffee, which I am a hound for. Inexpensive and unpretentious with an atmosphere that is refined enough for a nice date but not so fancy that it is uncomfortable. I have come here on a few different occasions. Usually I come for lunch at an odd hour in the daytime when most normal people are not at lunch. It is a quiet and pleasant space in the afternoon. There are nice paintings of romantic dancers on the wall. They have good coffee, good service and I like their lentil soup and their Thai Cashew Chicken salad is nice as well. I think there are too many different omelets on the menu. From my experience working as a waitress at a breakfast place on market Street, Omelets could hamper the kitchen more greatly than nearly any other item, because they would require for too many modifiers of variables. With a shorter menu, this place could really shine. Also? A few more dairy-free vegan and at least one raw item would round out a more modern menu ethic. If they are going to do many omelets, then in my opinion, they need someone who just does omelets. The service shouldn't be 3/4 full with a waitress telling me that it is a forty minute wait to eat after I have been seated, and the omelets are the elephant in the room. I actually left to go to another restaurant since I was really hungry. This is a very nice outfit and it feels privately owned and loved. read more
