Whether you say Brah-SEEL or Brah-ZILL this restaurant is a place to relax. You order at the counter and then pick up when it's ready. We tried a pair of the recommendations for dinner. Both came with White Rice, Black Beans, Fried Plantains, Salsa, and a Soup or Salad. * Grilled Top Sirloin Steak with Salad ($17.95) The steak was a thin mix of fat and meat. I can't recommend this at all ... however, the rice and beans were excellent and the plantains were cooked just right (not too well done at all). 2/5 stars * New Zealand Lamb Chops with Spicy Bean Soup ($17.95) A trio of lamb chops were juicy, however, large pieces of fat had to be removed to eat the meat. On the plus side, the spicy bean soup was addictive with enough zest to make me not want to put the spoon down. 3/5 stars Our favorite order was some Pao de Queijo - Cheese Bread made with Yucca Root Flour and Cheese ($0.90 each). The Cafe Brasil version is cheesier, softer, & chewier than most. They aren't cheap, but I'd eagerly get more of these again. Service and parking were fine. We easily found a spot on the street for our car. The two dishes we had were disappointments despite being among the most expensive on the menu and recommended. My gut is telling me that we ordered the wrong things while my heart is telling me the experience is worth another visit. This Café Brasil location has been on my radar for the longest time so I decided to stop by with fellow Yelper Ching T to get acquainted with their culinary contributions over dinner. The ambiance is cozy and unassuming with an intimate vibe supported by dimmed lighting and an ultra cute yellow to orange interior furnished by fresh flowers and vintage photos of Culver City and Brasil to symbolically present itself as the gateway to both worlds. Juxtaposed at both ends of the restaurant were two large flat screen TVs, and comparing to their sister location on Venice Blvd, both spatially and aesthetically the vibe here is much more finesse, captivating and still down to earth. We started off with an order of Picanha Steak Churrasco ($15.95) which came with a thin flat piece of beef steak that was perfectly seasoned. We requested the steak medium rare, and it was very flavorful but the cut was chewy, which presumably had to do with the quality of the cut. We followed it with an order of Lamb Chops Churrasco ($15.95), and the meat was equally flavorful but tender. The thickness of the lamb chops allowed for the medium rare flavor to overlap with the smokin' exterior to which rendered a very pleasant aroma in each bite. Both dishes came with a side of white rice, black beans, salsa, plantains, soup, and spicy black beans. The lentil soup wasn't very good, but the two sides of black beans were not redundant but complementary as one was naturally sweetened while the other was pureed embedded with a rich spicy kick. Inspired but not satisfied, I decided to order an extra plate of Plantains ($4.50) which came with six thick pieces of sugary fried plantains with soft, firm, and crispy textures in all the right places. There was one thicker piece that wasn't cooked all the way through, but it was something I would love to order again. I grew up chewing on sugar canes and my fresh squeezed Sugar Cane Juice ($3.50) was refreshing and brought back some of my fondest memories of childhood. They also sell Brasilian Chocolate (50 cents each) but the ones I got were not bonbons and not very good. Service at the counter was patient and friendly while one of the servers came to chat with us about the work they put in to make their spacious décor so vibrant on a daily basis. I would recommend this place for dates, families, and group gatherings. There are so many great restaurants in Culver City and this is one of those endearing places that I would love to revisit. read more

However I was NOT impressed with my dinner: Lamb Chops ($15.95) - usually served with rice, beans, salsa, plantains and salad or soup, I asked for just the lamb and veggies. The veggies were a sauteed mix of tomatoes, broccoli and zucchini, and a generous portion of it. But the lamb was SO SMALL - and it only added insult to injury when I realized that half of it was BONES. It was cooked medium rare, like I ordered, and it was tasty, but it was more of a tease than anything remotely satisfying. For the same price, had I known, I could have had a really big yummy steak - like Tai ordered - and I tasted, and I would have been very happy! : /. I also ordered a Risoli ($2) - a small deep fried meat pie, with savory crunchy-outside dough surrounding lightly seasoned ground beef. This was yummy! For dessert, we shared: Apple Tart ($4.65) - OMG, super tender chunks of apple, caramelized on top of a thin and chewy crust, all cinnamony and gooey with saucy-ness, and served with a big dollop of very freshly whipped-within-an-inch-of-its-life cream. YUM! Brazilian Flan ($2.50) - very good, rich and thick and creamy. But really, the apple tart stole the show away from this! I also had a cup of their Brazilian decaf coffee ($2) - which was the darkest, muddiest, thickest decaf I think I've ever had. I don't know how they make this, but there was muddy in it - which I like! - and it was mellow yet strong, and bitter yet rich. YUM! I'm not so happy about wanting to come home and have a snack because my lamb portion was so teensy. But once my blood sugar comes back up, I'll admit that the food was good here, and that next time I'll just order differently. read more

Met up with a friend who lives nearby for a morning walk and brunch. They don't open until 11am daily, so it's called "late breakfast" here. The meal is $9.50 and come with a nice amount of food--lots of starches: plantains, bread, cheese bread, plus scrambled eggs with greens and tomatoes. You get a coffee and a large portion of juice. It's pretty basic food, but it wasn't hot, so that was disappointing. Overall a cute place with simple food. I could go again if someone suggested it, but I wouldn't go out of my way. read more

Chicken Milaneza meal is served with black beans, perfectly cooked rice, plantains cooked just enough to get the tips nice and a little toasted, house salad, and their refreshing and tasty pico de gallo. Farofa - fried ground yucca I sprinkle over pretty much everything to add a light crunchy texture. Fried yucca - better than any sweet potato or regular fries or even zucchini fries I have ever had. So crispy without the heaviness of fried potatoes. Served with a tartar tasting dipping sauce. I dip it in ketchup too. Brings me back to Brazil... Pao de queijo - a must, must, must when available- do not even think about leaving without having one of these. A warm toasted cheese bread, hard crispy shell with a doughy/cheesy interior... Bomb!! Cafe Brasil is an awesome place to come for lunch without breaking the bank. The executive lunches are $7.95 and they give you big plate of food. The beef and lamb and chicken are all pretty good and it comes with rice, plantains, beans... The meat is pretty tender and the spices are pretty good. I absolutely love this place! I came here for lunch with a girlfriend on a Monday afternoon. Parking was easy to find on the streets, and the restaurant wasn't too crowded at all. The executive lunch is served from 11-4 pm and is so worth the price! For around 10$ you get your choice of meat, rice, beans, spices and a fried plantain on top. The rice was so flavorful and light, the beans were delicious! and the fried plantain was the perfect sweetness for the dish. The chicken I chose was ahhmazing; not dry at all, the seasoning just perfect, and the proportion generous. I was too busy eating my dish that I didn't try my friend's dish, but from what she left behind it looked like she loved it too. The service here was great, the interior decoration was very home-y, cute, and sweet with flowers all around the tables. We went for lunch today (today, incidentally, is very. grey, rainy, gloomy, and depressing), and the bright, colorful and friendly atmosphere brightened our days all right up. You might think I'm looney, but I'd prefer to eat here over the pricey Brazilian steakhouses in SoCal. From the moment you walk in, you feel as if you're in another country. And it's clean! Then you look at the menu... Whether you're here for the executive lunch special or for dinner, their plates come stacked. Each meat dish comes packed with rice, black beans, plantains, and their homemade salsa. Hearts of Palm Salad - A large salad, with generous servings of hearts of palm. Can be topped with chicken, shrimp, salmon or other fish. Pastels - Just like they make them in Brazil, except in Brazil they only cost $.75 each. The Napolitano (cheese, tomato, oregano) was the one I ordered. In Brazil they stuff them with anything you want... fried bananas, chicken and cheese, you name it... You won't find pastels offered at any churrascarias around here. Grilled Steak - It's Brazilian steak, of course it's great! Grilled Chicken - My favorite dish here. Don't get me wrong, the beef here is good, but there's something next level about the flavorful chicken. It's not just salted, but specially seasoned also. Caipirinha - The way they make it (sake instead of cachaca), it's like sweet lime heaven... so addicting! Served in a large cup with a sugar cane stick. I'd drink three of these if I didn't have to drive home. If you're here for dinner, you also get feijao (spicy black bean soup) or a salad with your meal. One day I'd like to try the feijoada here. In Brazil you can only get this on Saturday mornings (it takes 4 hours to make this stew), but here you can get it every day! Just so you know, there is no table service. You pay at the counter and then pick up your food order when it's ready. Everytime I've taken friends here, they left impressed with the food and decor. They also have Guarana (soda), but they don't make tropical fruit shakes The executive lunch serving is about 25% less food than the dinner portion. This place is definitely a hidden gem in Culver City. Who knew that Brazilian cuisine could be this good? From the outside, it looks more a shack then a restaurant. But once you're inside, the cozy and casual atmosphere feels like you're dining in Brazil. Nice colorful walls, very bright and open dining layout. Most of the wooden tables and chairs are distressed and arranged in a different sizes and colors to give it a more casual Latin style look. They also have outdoor patio seating in the front. The flower pots are actually herbs which are so fragrant and used for cooking. The order style is more fast food - order at counter, pick your seat and wait for your number to be called when your food is ready. Prices are a little bit pricey, but the food here is amazing and definitely worth it. Everything is made to order and fresh. They have executive lunch specials for $8.95 which includes choices of grill steak, chicken and pork chops. Since I was craving seafood today, I ordered the grilled snapper ($15.95) served with white rice, black beans, salsa, fried plantain and salad (or soup). The snapper was seasoned and grilled to perfection. Very tender, flaky and not overcooked. The side of tartar sauce and fresh salsa actually enhanced the flavor of the dish making it more zesty and delicious. But what made this dish special were their fried plantains. The lightly sweet crust on the outside from the caramelized sugar was crispy and tasty. Better than any Mexican or Latin American restaurants that I've eaten in the past that was served as a side dish. For drinks, I ordered the fresh mango which was refreshingly good. I tried this place out because it has great reviews, but it wasn't what I expected. I ordered a pastel de palmito and an açaí bowl. The pastel was soggy and not crunchy as it should be, and it had very little filling inside. The açaí bowl was very small for the price, and the açaí itself wasn't as smooth as I would have liked for it to be. I can't speak of the actual entrees there since I didn't try any, but I don't think I'll be coming back again. The inside of the restaurant was unbearably hot so I had to sit outside. Step up to the counter and order first--there's no wait staff. They have a bunch of Brazilian specialities to choose from, all of which (the main meal items, that is) come with soup or salad, white rice, black beans, plantains, and a dollop of Brazilian salsa. I've enjoyed the sublime rice + beans + plantains trifecta many-a-time with Cuban food, but the addition of the Brazilian salsa introduces a nice seasoning to the whole mix. Their Chicken Milaneza, breaded chicken with melted cheese on top, is great, even if it gets tiresome without the side dishes and looks like you threw Cousin It on the fryer. For something meatier, they've got 2 types of Brazilian steak: the Churrasco Steak ($17.95) and Ranchera Steak ($12.95). The Ranchera is a very thin piece of meat, but taste-wise you aren't missing much from the Churrasco, as they are seasoned the same. You only really need to spring forward with the extra $5 if you crave that steak texture to chomp down on. Their Brazilian coffee is good. You get your very own cinnamon stick to stir it with and spice it up to your liking. I love the ambiance of this place. The room is dimly lit at night, and the walls are colorfully decorated with traditional Brazilian designs and themes. It retains a homely atmosphere, and will almost convince you that beyond its doors outside is an Amazon forest, rather than a concrete LA jungle. Note that they have two locations, both in Culver City, so be sure to specify which one when meeting someone here. I've been to both, and found that they both possess the same general ambiance and quality of food. I do like this location a bit more, only because I find it easier to park, and less congested than the downtown Culver location. I think I need to come back here in the near future and order different items on the menu. I was recommended the lamb pork chops but didn't get a chance to try it. The Chicken Milaneza and plantains my friend ordered was delicious. I was not however a fan of the pork stew special I had ordered. I'm generally not a big fan of beans, and the pork stew was majority beans with some pork and sausages. So, if you don't like beans that much, I would not recommend getting the pork stew! They did have great service and a very really friendly staff! They also have a very quaint little outdoor patio seating area that is dog friendly! Free street parking after 6 PM! read more

This is quite the quirky place. Definitely one of the most colorful restaurants I've been in. Skip the lentil soup. My friends and I shared the yuca root appetizer. I've lived in Puerto Rico and so I'm pretty familiar with the yuca root. The dish was prepared in a different way than I had expected. I was pleasantly surprised at first, until I ate it. It may look good, but it was pretty bland. The accompanying sauce, which I would have to guess is some sort of mayo dip, was pretty bland too. Overall, just mediocrity blandness. The skirt steak however was a nice contrast. The meat unfortunately was slightly on the dry side. But, the taste was good. I have to say that it was well marinated. The pico de gallo was made with parsley instead of cilantro, which threw me off at first. I'm not sure if I quite like it because I think the taste of it threw everything else off balance. I really enjoyed the black beans though. Well seasoned, it was a nice addition to the plate. The lentil soup on the other hand was also pretty bland. Unorthodox service. It looks like a restaurant, but it felt like a high school cafeteria. You order, they call your number, and you take your meal in those large plastic trays you used to put your grilled cheese sandwiches with those fluorescently colored milk that passes as strawberry milk. Definitely ruins the overall "feel" of the experience. I found this place randomly on Yelp. Not sure if I'll be back. PROS: Great atmosphere, service is quick. CON: Parking I would have to say that parking is horrible. There is small driveway to get into the parking lot and not that many spots as it's shared with the motel. Luckily for me, I see someone get out for street parking after I left the parking lot. I came here around 7pm on a Thursday night. How this works is, you order and pay at the front first. Find a seat, and you just wait for them to call out your number. After you eat, just leave your tray and plate at the table, or if you're feeling generous take it up to side. They are pretty quick to get your food out so there isn't much of a wait. I ordered the Havana sandwich, espresso, and Brazilian flan. The Havana sandwich meat (top sirloin) was a bit dry, but not bad. What I should of done thinking about it now was to put some of the salad and salsa into the sandwich now thinking about it. I did not like the espresso, my friend makes better espresso than this place. The flan was sweet and delicious. The atmosphere of this place is really nice. but the sound on the TVs are too high for me. Wifi is pretty nice here. It was fast when I used it. I think this place is alright. I had the chicken breast plate, boyfriend had the chicken sandwich. What's the difference, you ask? The plate comes with (chicken - pounded flat and amazing), rice, beans, plantains, and a cup of salad. The sandwich comes with the chicken between bread (read: sandwich, duh) and salad on the plate. I have been here a couple times and each time the food is really good. It's a casual spot but has a cool, Brazilian setting. There is also a small outdoor area to sit. In my last visit, I ordered the Traditional Feijoada, which is a beef and pork stew with farofa (yucca flour). My friends told me to get it since I never had it and it sounded more interesting than the steak I was going to get (which is really good, too). The stew was excellent... it was interesting with different flavors coming at me and the farofa added to it. It didn't seem like a big bowl but I barely ended up finishing it. I also had a freshly squeezed lemonade, which was excellent!! This is a good spot if you're looking for really good food but a more casual night out. Digging the Latin American vibe at this eclectically bright restaurant! Came here for lunch with a girlfriend one afternoon. I got the Steak Executive Lunch ($7.95) and it was bomb. Grilled steak, rice, black beans, and fried plantains. Generous portions and fresh! My friend got the breakfast special ($8.50) which comes with coffee, juice, eggs, fried plantains, and toast. She's a huge egg person so she loved it. The juice that came with her meal was delicious! It's a shame that the Executive Lunch is only served on Mon-Fri from 11am-4pm... This place felt homey, like a place thats very loved by the local community. The inside is decorated with bright colors, ornaments, aged furniture and flowers in vases. Almost feels a little bit like youre visiting your Brazilian grandma's house lol. My friend and I ordered the steak plate and chicken sandwich. (I forget the formal names of each...) The fastest way to get to Brasil. This place is great for get-togethers. It's a low frills joint -- order your food at the counter, pick it up, and eat it in a tray. I recommend the pork chop or the skirt steak and a can of Brazilian soda. The neighborhood is a little sketchy though. I was assaulted by a female customer who thought I stole her purse. With the expectations of eating some awesome homey Brazilian food based off of the theme of the restaurant... the place did not meet those expectations. To start off, the menu is massive, when looking over it, there are titles for: appetizers, salads, drinks, and desserts; there was not a title for the entrees in which it took me a minute to find it. On top of that, when you are given the check to sign, it also asks for a tip. Needless to say, the food is pretty much already made. No need to tip someone if the food is already cooked. Furthermore, they brought food to some of the tables, and some tables they didn't. I find this very inconsistent with no real flow within the restaurant. The food was crap, not flavor, plus spending $30+ on two meals and didn't get much of food. After scrolling through the photos on yelp, I've realized that they use the same trays and plates from 9 years ago. This place has so much potential, but it needs help. Don't get the plátanos, they are soggy and not caramelized. Overall, if you're looking for Brazilian food, then this isn't the place for you. I'm sure this is fine if you like the type of food they serve here. Of our party of four, none of use really liked our dishes. The salsa had some sort of a weird garlic type creamy sauce mixed in that was kind of overpowering. I liked the black beans and rice. My chicken needed something with it - it was just lightly seasoned, flattened, and cooked. We were all disappointed because the reviews looked great! read more

This place was horrible. My sister ordered a $15 plate that said eggs came with cheese tomatoes, and other things that weren't on her plate. She paid $2 extra for fries and they gave her about 5. When we went up nicely to ask why it wasn't the same thing that we saw on the menu and she was beyond rude and refused to give us what we ordered. read more

The platters here are ON POINT! A bit expensive, but you get a pretty decent portion and it's extremely filling. The decor is colorful as soon as you walk in and filled with Brazilian paintings and posters. Sort of makes you feel like you have stepped into another country for a moment. You place your order at the counter, I had the lamb chops platter which comes with rice&, beans. Cooked medium, the meat was not too overcooked and had a ton of flavor. We also had the yucca fries which were alright. Not sure if I would get them again. The passion fruit juice is recommended and refreshing! This place is a cute date spot and has a homey feel to it with chill jazz music playing in the background. FYI there are are two locations (the other in Venice).
