Glad that, this morning when my wife said she wished to go to breakfast, she google searched and decided on this quaint little restaurant, nestled in the quiet neighborhood off of second avenue. There were literally white petals falling on us from the trees as we walked from our parking spot here. As an aside, not much parking is available, so be prepared to walk. I ordered the steak and eggs, which are served with eggs and cheese scrambled together. Steak was how I liked it, and the eggs were scrambled well. Not an easy task; been to too many breakfast places that mess up scrambled eggs/omelets. My wife ordered her "gluten-free" (no muffin) salmon Benedict. As she is not a bread person, she thinks. she will order benedicts sans muffin fr now on. The setting mixed with the food makes for a great breakfast. Nothing too exciting to report over here. Cafe Dantorels is a basic breakfast spot in Curtis Park. They have an outdoor patio that's dog friendly. Hey hey. You order from the counter inside, you're then given a number and you can select your table. They sell baked goods that are apparently baked in house, but it didn't taste that way. The food is okay. I had a breakfast burrito added steak. The country potatoes within my burrito did not taste cooked and they were hard in texture. I don't they were cooked. I enjoy Cafre Dantorels. It's a simple cafe with an excellent array of beverage and food options. The hot matcha latte w/ oat milk is sooooo silky smooth. The matcha shines and the delicate earthiness isn't over powered by the sweetener. The latte art is also always appreciated. The lox bagel is also good, and my usual go-to. I replace the cream cheese with avocado, as a personal preference. You only get a couple slivers of salmon, but the rest of the bagel is packed with spinach, onions, capers and for me, avocado, which results in you not feeling too disappointed with the lack of lox. Because for $25, you're getting a hand crafted latte and a bagel sandwich...So I understand, if you want a fat stack of lox. I do. I came here to do some paperwork online. On an early Saturday afternoon, there were a few tables and booths available that were next to an outlet. Lucky me! But, the wifi is soooo slow. Speed test indicated that we're working with 1mbps. I hate to have to do this, but I find myself in conversation about Cafe Dantorels more often I should. I live in Curtis Park, so it's one of the few restaurants in the neighborhood and I'd love to like eating there. But I don't. Here's why:* The food? Hit or miss. Every time I've had soup, it's been lukewarm. The fries are almost always under done. There's just this sense that either the kitchen is overwhelmed, or they don't really care that much. * Counter service only. Waiting in line, stealing salt and pepper from other tables, searching for ketchup, getting your own water and bussing your own table (they only drop the food--they don't clear your plates) would be fine if it weren't... * So expensive. $20 for a turkey burger (mediocre) and underdone fries? (With tax and tip) Same for a breakfast burrito. Who do they think they are? Where do they think we live? It's really a shame because it's a lovely space, but it's just disappointing. My suggestion to the owners: Bring your prices down, hire dedicated (and enough) cooks, get a baller manager who cares about the experience you're offering and will actually make sure you're getting something (clear the tables?) for that tip you gave at the counter. Customer service and quality of food was on point. Good portion. Flavorful. The cost of coffee was a little pricey. Other than that our over all experiences was great. I ordered the hot chocolate expecting it was going to come out like other hot chocolates I've seen posted. Some have whipped cream delicately placed along the ridge.... Mine didn't have that. Was a little hesitant to try based on the reviews but I was pleasantly surprised! First off, if you are coming for weekend brunch, be prepared to wait! There is a line out the door (you order at the counter and they bring the food to you). They had a lot of different brunch options as well as lunch. I got the classic eggs Benedict which I didn't realized until it came that there was no ham on it! Surprising, but still delicious nonetheless! The hollandaise sauce was so good, they gave a good amount of potato's as well. I was not a fan of the counter service - If you have a big party, you'll have to split the group so half can stand in line to order, while the rest sits to reserve the tables. At the recommendation of some friends went to have lunch at Dantorels. They warned us that there might be a line, but it went super quick. You have to order upfront, take a number, then sit down, they bring it to you. Please note you have to get everything yourself which includes water and utensils. We didn't know and we're waiting around for it. It was a nice day so perfect for sitting outside in the patio. Loved that they had a large fire place in the middle that was surrounded by seating. So lovely. I wish I lived closer, as Cafe Dantorels would definitely be my go-to spot. I arrived around 7pm on a weekday evening. The place was not packed, but there were small groups enjoying various types of big and small gatherings. My girlfriends and I snagged a table under the covered outdoor area in back. It wasn't immediately obvious to me that there was not table service, but that was easily remedied. The folks taking customers' orders were being very diligent and patient with some older patrons that had lots and lots of questions. Personally, I was getting a little impatient, and eventually someone picked up on the fact I'd be an easy customer. But the wait was worth it. Their special peach salad was beautiful and delicious - best salad of the season so far. Surprisingly large tap list, though I would have liked more IPAs. There was a scrumptious display of pastries & Christmas tree sugar cookies that I wished I had tried!! Ambience was great and the restaurant was very clean. Recently, they have been hiring a lot of new people, and as a human, we understand people make mistakes and people also work very hard for their money at this spot. My brother recommended me this restaurant for years, and I finally decided to come here. Service was pretty absent here. We walked in, and this was our first time here, and we were a little confused about the setup. Like do we get our own menu, do seat ourselves, do we order first then seat ourselves? No one even greeted us when we walked in. We looked to the left of the entrance and there were slots that said "clean drink menu," "clean breakfast menu," etc for lunch and dinner menus. Basically self service, with the exception of placing your order and receiving your order. We walked over to the register where one of the ladies was standing, and still she didn't greet or welcome us...simply waited for us to give our order. After we placed our order, still no "thank you" or "we'll bring your order out shortly," or offering to take our now-dirty menus...we had to just find the slot for the "dirty menus." Even after another customer came over for something, she didn't really respond and just handed him whatever he needed. She didn't seem like she was happy to be there. By the way, they don't take Apple Pay. Food was ok, for that the servings were somewhat smaller than I expected, especially for the prices. The crepe we ordered was $11, but it looked like it should have been $7 or $8. It was one small crepe with like 2-3 strawberries, and a half handful of blueberries, about a teaspoon of goat cheese, and some almonds. It was decent, but it was so small. The crepe itself also seemed undercooked, and on the softer side...seemed like it needed a little more time on the pan. We also ordered the grilled salmon benedict which was $18. The egg benedict itself was fine, but the grilled salmon was a bit fishy tasting at the center...the edges were crisp and tasted better than the center of the salmon. The benedict also came with some avocado which was a nice touch. The potatoes that came on the side seemed like boiled, diced potatoes with some sort of flavorless seasoning...they weren't salty enough, and there were no salt and pepper shakers in sight. There wasn't really any server really walking around to help us either, so it was whatever, and I just went without. The server who dropped us off our food--I noticed she came out of the kitchen, looked at the opposite side of the restaurant of where we were sitting and didn't look our way for our number, and immediately walked outside...totally ignored us only to not be able to find us, and backtrack indoors... We also ordered the rose latte, and it was pretty! Had the latte art and dried rose petals. I think it was probably the best thing out of the 3 items we ordered. It had a noticeable rose taste, and not too sweet. Finally after leaving the restaurant and walking outside, one of the servers, a younger guy, was walking our way into the restaurant and told us "thank you" and "have a good day," which was the best service we had this whole experience...which isn't even much to ask. I'm not even asking for any special requests for my food...just a simple greeting or simple thank you for visiting the restaurant... Overall, food was pretty average, service was subpar, and the restaurant itself is pretty cute for the decor. For the price we paid here, I could have gone somewhere else in Downtown or Midtown with better service and better food. For those things, I don't think I'm inclined to come back. read more

Super cute little Cafe. I enjoyed the outdoor seating and the misters were a great touch to keep cool. You get in line, order your food, pay up front & then you're given a number stand. Its self seating and just display your number stand thing at your table and your food will be brought over to you. Food was decent but pretty pricey imo. $14 bucks for just some regular eggs potatoes and toast is a bit much for me. I guess I was paying for the nice ambiance. Came here on a Sunday mid morning to try their breakfast. My sister had seen a friend check in to this cafe and she suggested we give it a try. It's a corner cafe with a lot of seating inside and outside. The outside patio also has a fire pit where you can eat by the fire if you're cold. The ambiance was inviting and relaxing. The menu options were good for all 3 meals .... breakfast, lunch and dinner. I went in thinking I was going to get lunch but decided on the tuna melt and a side of garlic fries. The tuna was delicious and the fries had a nice amount of garlic on top. My sister ordered the banana bread French toast. It was loaded with granola, berries, bananas and a strawberry sauce. She gave me a few bites and it was soooooo good! It wasn't over sweet as I was expecting. I feel the strawberry sauce balanced it out as it was mildly tart and pair well with the banana bread. My bro in law ordered the chorizo Benedict, this I didn't try. I was too full from my own meal. The hot chocolate was also very good! Great chocolate flavor and was nice a frothy. I still love this place and will come back just for the atmosphere and neighborhood, and I know restaurants are recovering from a bad 2020 and 2021, but I feel like my updated review is warranted! We are amidst wedding planning and decided to come back here for a late breakfast before a long day of errands. I was still tired and really looking forward to a good coffee. When I got in line I noticed a sign above the registers that says to use the next register if you want to place a coffee or pastry order, meaning if I wanted coffee I had to first pay for my food then take a step to the right and pay for my coffee separately. Not a huge inconvenience, but I didn't end up ordering coffee because I didn't want to do a whole, additional transaction. The place was clean and the pineapple mimosa was GOOD! It tasted like fresh pineapple juice and I did see them pouring out of a big jug of, what I can only assume is, fresh-squeezed orange juice. My other little complaint is that my food was sub-par. I ordered eggs Benedict with tomato and avocado, extra hollandaise sauce, and roasted potatoes on the side. The hollandaise sauce was not just not-warm, but cold to the touch. I didn't get any extra hollandaise sauce either. The potatoes had no salt on them at all, just oil and herbs. I was starving so I ate it, but it was not worth the $17!
