I would have taken a picture of my food but I loved it so much I forgot. This place is great. I loved my 2 item meal with taco and enchilada. The yelp check in didn't work but the waitress hooked our son up with a free quesadilla. Great service!

    A shrimp burrito

I went back to this place and ordered a grilled shrimp burrito, and I really loved it. So far I'm very happy I found another place where you can still buy lunch at a fair price. That shrimp burrito has an amazing taste and the green salsa that comes with it , you may want to ask for another one because it tastes really good and you won't be disappointed. I recommend it to anybody or at least try it out.

This was the worst restaurant meal I have ever had. All of the dishes were tasteless and underprepared. None of them matched the description provided on the menu. By far the worst of the dishes were the veggie "fajitas". These supposed "fajitas" were comprised of steamed (yes... steamed) broccoli and some carrots with no tortillas. Do not spend a dime on this place. Awful.

    Shrimp tostada salad

An excellent, quiet, neighborhood Mexican restaurant in Menlo Park, Cafe Del Sol sees a bunch of regulars and has some of the friendliest servers around! The decor is nothing particularly special--homey, sunny, and spacious, but the food is fresh, bright, vibrant, and colorful! I came with a group of four for lunch on a Saturday and we arrived to an empty-looking restaurant. On every table was a plate of freshly fried corn tortilla chips, salsa verde, and pico de gallo. We ordered the shrimp tostada salad, which came with lettuce, guacamole, mango chunks, refried beans, and fried tortillas. It was dressed so nicely with a tomatillo sauce and had a great crunch. The shrimp was one of the best parts--seasoned so nicely and grilled to perfection! We also had the halibut plate and the shrimp plate, each of which came with seasoned Mexican rice, beans (black or refried), mango salsa, and a fresh cole slaw. The shrimp were perfectly cooked in a zesty garlic/lime sauce, but the halibut was unfortunately overcooked and somewhat tough/dry. Finally, we got two fish tacos on a plate (one salmon, one red snapper), but the fish was also a bit overcooked and charred. While the execution of the seafood could have been a bit better, everything else on the plates tasted simply so fresh, light, and delicious. For the food itself, I'd probably rate this restaurant a 3.5, but the super friendly service and great value bump it up a notch!

I got the chicken milanesa. It was a bit over fried but tasted good.

I was returning from the hospital with my mother and based on yelp reviews, I decided to give this place a try. It was closed when we got there but they let us in since it was almost 5 PM. We waited a few minutes and it was really annoying to hear the Mexicans talking out loud and the Mexican radio. I think in respect for the guests, the establishment should keep noise levels down behind the scene. Eventually more customers came in and they got busy enough to stop the talking. The staff was very friendly and we both enjoyed our dishes.

Parking: Underground garage, stairs or lift (elevator) up one floor to the Cafe Barrone and Keplers Book Store. We were lucky as I was able to find a table outside. Indoor seating is available and that is also where you place your order. When you pay, you are given a number to place on your table. Order regular coffee here and hot chocolate, or special coffees at another counter. They forgot to give the Duchess the regular coffee, but noticed the mistake at the special counter and brought the coffee to the Duchess while she was picking up her hot chocolate. Smoked Salmon Bagel Platter $22.00: Smoked Salmon, Tomatoes, Cucumber, Capers, Red Onion, & Whipped Cream Cheese with your choice of toasted bagel. My choice: Forever bagel. The dish was was plentiful, smelling and tasting deliciously fresh. Large dollop of cream cheese was much appreciated. Bagel was nicely toasted and there was no hole for ingredients to fall through. Loved that! ORGANIC BEET SALAD $15.00 Roasted organic beets, grapefruit, pickled fennel, avocado, goat cheese, & house balsamic vinaigrette. Title should have said ORGASMIC, because the Duchess proclaimed it to be the very best salad she has ever been served in her realm (wink!) CUSTARD sorry no price, my bad. Duchess says she could eat a 55 gallon drum of this creamy rich dessert. Covered with a dusting of fresh nutmeg making it downright addictive. Drinks: Regular Coffee Taylor Maid Farms Drip $4.75 was nothing to write home about. Would not order it again. It looked like coffee, but no taste on the tongue Hot Chocolate $5.00 Duchess made a rookie mistake and tried to sip it before sucking off some of the whip cream, the chocolate milk flowing lovingly down her white flowery dress. Being the "quite proper" Brit, there was no audible curse. Still, she found it very tasty, with a strong chocolate flavor, which left her wishing she had ordered the large cup. Trendy, bustling, loud crowd. Casual dress is the order. Noise level is not so much as to be painful. If your wearing hearing aids, you may enjoy removing one. Sadly, all the staff were walking around with seriously sullen faces. Our server delivered our order with word unspoken, expressionless. So we were pleasantly surprised with Miguel, who while bussing our table was smiling and downright charming. 5 stars to this young man. Yes, we were here to eat, but it is nice to not feel your attending a funeral, when your spending dollars. Tips start at 18% and up. For what? You basically wait on yourself. Will return, as there are many dishes and drinks to relish. Yeah . . . we did leave a tip. Oh!! And the Duchess paid the tab. Drinks all around.

We went at the perfect time before the dinner rush and were greeted by our waiter Dylan. He was quick to answer our questions and offered great recommendations. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich with air fried fries and a pepperoni pizza. I also got a iced matcha horchata. Buffalo chicken sandwich tasted great with not an overpowering vinegar taste but also had that wonderful classic Buffalo wings flavor. The bread was very soft and the coleslaw was actually pretty good. I enjoyed the freshness of it. The fries were very dry and hard to be honest, I'll probably get a salad instead of those next time. The pepperoni pizza was a thin crust and not overly oily and cooked to perfection. No burnt crust or lava temperature cheese. Every bite was a joy. The iced matcha horchata was pretty much just a matcha latte lol. I did not taste any horchata flavoring at all. Not bad if it was just labeled a matcha latte but I probably won't get it again. Overall my visit was enjoyed and I look forward to exploring what the other items on the menu are like. Despite the shortcomings of the fries and the lack of horchata flavoring in my horchata drink I would still say my meal was rather enjoyable. On top of that our server Dylan was outstanding. Checked in at all the right times and was not overbearing but also not lacking in interaction. We did not have to ask for much as he was quick to provide everything we needed. The ambiance and the look of the restaurant was very nice and clean. Music wasn't too loud and the lights weren't too bright or too dim. I came to this restaurant two days in a row because I really enjoyed my first experience…read more Unfortunately, my second visit was noticeably different, and it really highlighted one of the biggest challenges for any restaurant: consistency. First Visit - Nearly 5 Stars On my first visit, I ordered: * Beet Poke * Mushroom Bao * Kale Caesar Salad with Falafel The beet poke was fantastic. It was fresh, light, and packed with seaweed, with a delicious dressing that brought everything together. There were great textures and flavors, and I would have happily ordered it again. The mushroom bao was another standout. The mushroom was perfectly fried, tucked inside a soft, fluffy bao, and topped with a tangy slaw. Great combination of crispy, soft, savory, and acidic. The kale Caesar salad was also delicious. Fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. At this point, I was thinking 5 stars and was excited enough to come back the very next day. Second Visit - A Different Experience I ordered: * Beet Poke * Mushroom Bao * Kale Caesar Salad * Potato Pizza Unfortunately, things were much more inconsistent. The beet poke was probably the biggest disappointment. There was barely any seaweed, very little textural contrast, and the dressing tasted completely different from the day before. It was also barely dressed. If this had been my first experience with the dish, I honestly would not have ordered it again. The mushroom bao was still good, but it didn't taste the same as the previous day. The slaw was noticeably spicy this time, whereas it hadn't been spicy at all on my first visit. It made me wonder if there were different chefs or if the recipes/preparations simply weren't being followed consistently. The kale Caesar was the one dish that remained consistent, still delicious on day two. The potato pizza was underwhelming and definitely something I wouldn't order again. The flavor combo wasn't working with me. We also got the gluten free crust which was not great. Almost more of a cracker than a pizza crust. The Verdict: If I were reviewing this restaurant based only on my first visit, I would have given it 5 stars. The food was fresh, creative, flavorful, and genuinely memorable. But after coming back the very next day and having several dishes taste noticeably different, I had to take a few stars away. I'm not sure if there were different chefs, different prep, or something else going on behind the scenes, but consistency is such a key part of a great restaurant experience, especially when you're paying restaurant prices. When a dish is fantastic one day and just okay the next, it's hard to know what experience you're actually going to get. The ambience is great, and while the service was friendly, it was also a bit slow. Overall, I still see the potential here, and my first visit was genuinely excellent. I just wish the second visit had lived up to it.
