Tuesday afternoon dim sum was good. Overall the food was good , the service was quick and attentive and I left satisfied. Their dim sum lunch sampler was very good- all their dumplings were delicious. They also had soup dumplings- that although not my favorite ever-the restaurant is close enough not to have to go all the way to Chinatown to get a quick fix. Will definitely be back. read more

Everything was delicious! My partner is celiac and consuming gluten makes him severely ill. Evergreen has a two page gluten free menu. Although I can eat anything, I too ordered off the GF menu so that we could share various dishes. The dumplings were out of this world..... not just "good for GF" but simply delicious. We also had GrandMarnier Prawns and Black Pepper Filet, both excellent. Service is great and the restaurant is super clean. We will gladly return! read more

Really good take out! Probably my favorite on the UES. They have the most amazing eggrolls and the pork buns are just as good as Chinatown. Food is very flavorful and not too oily or soggy by the time it gets to your apartment! Sometimes the delivery takes a little longer, but the food is worth the wait. read more

Came here last night for an early light dinner. First visit. I'm strictly gluten free, corn free, dairy free and sugar free all for medical reasons. What attracted me here was the gluten free menu. The atmosphere was serene. Table settings are upscale but tastefully simple. Some relaxing music was playing very quietly in the background. The decor really helped. As it was just after 5 pm I was one of the only patrons. Extremely relaxing. Service was excellent. I had an order of the shrimp dumplings and the shredded duck rolls. Very good. The value was fair. With all my food allergies I don't mind the price as much as I focus on the food quality and ingredients. So, if you have food allergies this might be a great place for you to try. Terrible experience. The elderly host discriminated against our group because we're not White. He refused to seat us because our entire party had not arrived, which I thought was fair even though the entire restaurant was empty. Disappointing!!! Ordered 2 Large Barbecue Spare Ribs for a total of $44. The ribs arrived within 25 minutes (which would be too soon for two orders of freshly cooked ribs). They were extremely dry and difficult to eat--even after adding extra sauce. Likely, the ribs had been cooked earlier in the day and were being kept warm. This was pretty bad Chinese food. The food arrived in medical-like baggies and the fried pork dumplings were the smallest I've ever seen. At the price of $7 for 8 dumplings it was definitely not a deal. The soup dumplings, although tasty, arrived warm and already broken - for $7 for 4 dumplings even less of a deal. Our pineapple fried rice with chicken and shrimp was tasteless- we needed to season it with duck sauce in order for us to enjoy it. The pork fried rice reviewed better than the rest, leaving it with a 4/5 stars because it was of "average" quality. The meal was much too expensive. read more

I came to Cafe Evergreen tonight for the first time with my family. They have a large menu that won't disappoint even the picky eaters. I ordered a wonton coup and beef chow fun. Both were very good. Moo Shu Chicken did not have any carrots , was burnt no cabbage hardly any chicken. when complained they remade it and continue to have bidder vegetables which was tasteless. Complained to manager ... they insisted on given us another order and said that they would not charge me and told me to take it home When i got it home it had no chicken and was similar to the first one we ordered Ordered Men fun shrimp that has very little vegetable once I search and search and finally found some Originally when requesting clarity on garden vegetables and the waiter stated garden vegetable but did not know what garden vegetables were. I have been eating here, and ordering from here, for at least ten years. I think they have the cleanest Chinese food I've had uptown (no beef tallow in the yang chow fried rice) and recognizable veggies in the dumplings and spring rolls. Also, the dumpling skins are very thin and the stuffing is really excellent on all of them. The Bejing duck is amazing. Frankly, I would rather eat here than at many of the "snootier" Chinese restaurants. For people who say it's expensive: I have to ask "compared to what?" I have never written a Yelp review in my life before but felt so compelled to write one after my experience at Cafe Evergreen this morning. This was the first time in my life EVER that I have not left a tip at a restaurant. I don't know what's up with this place, but I agree with the reviewers who feel they were discriminated against. My boyfriend and I arrived at around noon and the restaurant was pretty full but not packed. We were seated right away, but then totally left on our own after that. No one came to give us water, tea, a menu, or anything. The dim sum cart did not come for a while. When it did, we got a couple small dishes and asked if there would be other carts coming around with other dishes. The woman pushing the cart simply said "no" and kept going. No other information. We decided that we wanted to order some things off the menu, and tried to wave one of the SEVERAL people working there to ask for a menu (and also water an tea, since we did NOT have beverages yet either). It was literally as if we were invisible. I can't even explain it. I have never felt this way in a restaurant before in my life. The experience was not only rude, but just extremely strange. Eventually, we were able to wave down an elderly man who worked there and ask for menus and water and tea. The man did not say a word and just disappeared. Later, another man brought the water and tea, again without a word. After that, the elderly man came back with a single menu for my boyfriend and I (I guess to share?) and HOVERED over us as we looked through the menu. He was waiting for us to make a decision. It was super uncomfortable and we asked for a few minutes but he WOULD NOT LEAVE. Again, not only rude, but just plain weird. The man seemed annoyed as he was hovering, and then he got the piece of paper where they write down which dim sum dishes you ordered, and scribbled down "TEA" on the paper, basically out of nowhere. My boyfriend and I go to Asian restaurants all the time and we have never paid for tea at a sit-down restaurant like this...I still don't know if they charge everyone for tea, or this man was just annoyed at us and decided to scribble it down, somewhat out of the blue, while we were picking a dish. We felt so rushed so we picked a totally random dish. I mean, totally random. We just pointed to a random noodle dish on the menu even though neither of us really wanted noodles. I would like to reiterate again that throughout this entire process, no one really said a word. It was as if the waiters were instructed not to speak? Or maybe they just did not want to speak to us? I have no idea. My boyfriend and I wanted to leave the restaurant so badly after we ordered the dish, but decided to wait and just get it over with. The food wasn't even that good on top of everything. The worst part of this entire story was that the other tables did not seem to be treated the same way. There were several other tables with full groups of Caucasian people with menus going around, tea getting brought to the tables automatically and refilled, etc. I have no idea what is up with this place, but can confidently say it was the worst restaurant service I have ever had in my life and my boyfriend and I will not be coming back here ever again. read more

My friends and I were really craving soup dumplings, so we decided to have Cafe Evergreen deliver. I cannot say I was impressed. The most shocking thing was how little food we got for the price. I can't believe fried dumplings can be made so small - definitely smallest I've ever seen. The soup dumplings were good (not great), however many arrived already broken. I can't fault them too much for this as it was delivery, but still slightly disappointing. The pineapple fried rice was, as my roommate puts it, "subtly flavored" - I'd call it bland. We had to cover the rice liberally with other sauces to give it any hint of flavor. Would definitely not get again. read more

Extremely UN child friendly, despite having high chairs. We used to order ford about once a week, but recently went for an early lunch with our 1 year old granddaughter. The owner became extremely upset when she dropped a VERY small quantity of food. When she dido piped we were suddenly made to feel unwelcome. Food was excellent- can't express enough that everyone in the party was extremely pleased with their food. (Except their ranch- it was disgusting). However, there was not enough wait staff out back which left the one lone person to handle all the tables. That meant after we got our food, she never came back to the table to refill the waters or ask about how our food was. I had already eaten 3/4 of my meal when I was able to flag her down and ask her for a different dressing and more water. When she returned she refilled (with a jug), only my water and not the other empty cups on the table. Furthermore, when we ordered, she asked if I wanted bacon and avocado on my sandwich. In the sandwhices section on the menu I didn't see that as an option and so when she said it I was pleasantly surprised and I accepted her offer, realizing their would be an up charge but thought it would be a reasonable one. When we got the check it was 3 dollars for avocado and 3 dollars for bacon. SIX dollars up charge for was she casually suggested to me and I heard her to to every other patron saying things like "everything tastes better with avocado". WITHOUT reminding people or pointing them to the menu section about extras where the chargers were. I would NOT have added either had I known or realized it was ridiculously over priced, I could purchase an entire pack of bacon for 3 dollars or 3 whole avocados for that amount. I was so shocked when my check came back to be 18 dollars for me sandwich. I felt like she was dumping people into the upsale. Lack of attention to the table, and the pressure exhibited to "up sell" patrons has turned me off. While the food was wonderful, I will not be recommending this place to anyone unfortunately. read more
