Hands down, the best sandwiches I've had in this country. It has to do the flavor combinations of the right cheeses and meats along with the aioli, caramelized onion and chutney, and how they're each prepared to give it the perfect texture. The salad was tossed just right and topped with sunflower seeds and strawberries that also resulted in the right flavor and texture. The curry soup was a first for me -- very light and quite heavenly. The tomato bisque was the best tomato-based soup I've ever had. Eating here, I had a craving for a single malt with lunch, which is possibly the highest compliment I could give. Lastly, the bathroom was not only impeccable but very tastefully decorated. Leslie and her staff at Cafe Girasol provided extremely wonderful catering for my remote wedding. My wedding was outdoors without access to electricity or running water. This did not phase Leslie. She was able to keep all of the food hot (inspite of the long drive from her kitchen) all with a smile on her face. What sold me first on Cafe Girasol was how Leslie truely loved cuisine and interviewed us to see what kind of food we would like. She then offered us a special lunch at the restaurant as a tasting. Her service was incredible. Not to mention the different selection of foods she created. Even the water was full of flavor: she added lemons, cumumber, and lavender! I have to say that this is the best restaurant I have ever been to! Best food I've ever had, seriously. Everything was amazingly delicious, and presentation was even perfect. We came in town today for the 4th of July weekend and happened to yelp this place and I am so happy we ended up having lunch here. We got the tomato basil soup to start, my fiance got the Thai peanut wrap and I got The Marcello sandwich. They were all very delicious, a MUST try. They are very filling as well. It's a sweet place. I mean that for the atmosphere and also for the food. I explain: We had a couple of paninis, a smoothie and two teas. I had the impression the all the sandwiches had some sort of jam or fruit or whatever type of sugar in it. I say that enjoying bittersweet stuff, but on that day I wasn't on the mood for it and I wish they had more plain savory options. The salad that comes with them also has a tart-sweet dressing. The smoothie is made of mixings that has sugar on it (all of them, you cann't remove), therefor I gave back and asked for a tea. I'm being critic but they tasted good after all. This place defines how wonderfull small town local restaurants can be. What you won't find here is the usual scripted service of chain restaurants. Menu development is decided perhaps by mood rather than a faraway test kitchen followed by straw poll. The food is obviously fresh and clean with flavors that work well together and great balance. Service is again quite local. No uniform, no scripted garbage, just " let me take care of you" mentality that I love so much. Come in as a customer and leave with new friends. This place is absolutely amazing! I came across it on a business trip to Minden and I couldn't get enough of it. Its located in a small business park and serves a variety of freshly prepared sandwiches, homemade soups and salads. The menu offers a fabulous variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options and the owner is happy to customize the sandwiches any way you like them. My favorites were the sweet potato soup, curry orzo and the Girasole sandwich (which the owner kindly customized for me by adding a variety of extra veggies). Wow was I disappointed in this place. While it's nice to have something other than fast food to choose from, the menu choices here are very poorly executed. I had a signature panini called "K2", which therefore should have been one of their best dishes! Instead I got a slimy sandwich, not even made as a panini. Paninis are made on a specific type of piping hot grill, with a little oil, and pressed while they're grilled. Some light toast marks on the dry flavorless bread were the only feature that made this dish different in any way from a BLT. The chef needs some Italian cooking lessons, I guess! Anyway, inside these two sawdust like planks was a gooey, awful concoction of Brie, caramelized onions, sloppy turkey, and "garlic aioli." The aioli was just cheap mayo with garlic powder in it. When I went to pay I could see the 5 gallon food service bucket in the kitchen! If you're calling it aioli, you'd better be making it from olive oil and eggs. There was supposedly pear in this also, but if it was there it was completely undetectable in the slimy muck in the middle of this mess. The only redeeming feature of the meal was a tasty marionberry vinaigrette on the nice spring greens salad, but even that was ruined because it was served on paper! The food at the Carson Valley Inn a mile north is far superior, and at $10 for a sandwich, that's a crime. It's a pretty sad statement when the greasy spoon cafe in the casino puts your place to shame. In addition to all of this, the service was slow, kinda creepy, and after 40 minutes of waiting for food when they weren't very busy, I was quite disappointed. And this is at a place that serves only lunch! To their credit, some of their flavorless cardboard-like bread is gluten free. At least they're thinking about who they cook their awful food for. Do the world a favor and don't patronize this garbage-slinging slophouse posing as a gourmet place. read more

While the food is ok, their customer service is greatly lacking. When I tried to pay with a $50 gift certificate from their restaurant today, they refused to accept it and said the business had been sold. They made no attempt to resolve the problem or do anything that might restore my goodwill. It was just tough luck. It doesn't appear they have an interest in repeat customers. read more
