It was a cold Saturday evening and we decided to go somewhere nearby to warm up and have a nice dinner. This was actually our second time here. The host that greeted us was very kind. My friend has a tree nut allergy so we need to be very careful so we need to be careful about which restaurant we pick and they are very accommodating here. Andro our server was very attentive with that dietary restriction. He double checked the ingredients list they have on their iPads to make sure there wouldn't be an issue with the army friends allergies. He also explained all the dishes to us thoroughly. For dessert I had the delicious tiramisu and my friend had a delectable corn dish which andro had suggested and was very pleasantly surprised. They have a beautiful patio with heaters and we were even offered a couple blankets. Super cozy! It was a beautiful experience at that cafe and I wouldn't hesitate to go again. We enjoyed a meal here daily during our stay in Santa Monica. Highly recommend everything on the menu from smoothies to bowls, especially "Yo Soy Fuerte"... so good!!!! The staff is great, especially Marcus who had the best recommendations, and was super helpful and welcoming! You can eat inside or opt to eat outside in their beautiful patio. The food is superb! Yes, it's pricey, so I can't grab my favorite-ever-thing-in-all-the-world the Whole Bowl as often as I'd like, but that also makes it a special treat. Went here for breakfast after a long run on SM/Venice. I heard about the place on a podcast and was intrigued. I've only scored this 4 because they weren't as into the theme as other branches apparently are. The staff were perfectly nice. I ordered an oat milk cap and it was delicious. I then ordered the shiitake mushroom tartine. It was great. The crust was a bit tough but the mushrooms and tomato were great. I had the I Am Pure salad for $13. It's a ginger tahini marinated kale salad with avocado, sea palm, nori, cucumbers, carrots, cilantro, basil, green onions, sunflower sprouts, and sprinkled with teriyaki almonds. It was indeed pure and I loved the ginger tahini marinade which tenderized the kale without overwhelming it. The sunflower sprouts were a bit hard to eat because they were so long, but the varied textures of the ingredients and the savory dressing made this a delicious way to eat vegan. The neighboring table had two I Am Awesome sandwiches and they looked so good, I ordered one too. It's a herb cornmeal crusted eggplant Parmesan on grilled panini with marinara, cashew ricotta, sliced heirloom tomatoes, arugula, basil, and served with a side salad for $12. This is the perfect sandwich to order for someone who isn't sure they like vegetables. The crunchy cornmeal crust with the creamy ricotta and fresh tomato marinara tasted just like a fresher version of the traditional eggplant Parmesan sandwich. There is an option of hemp seed pesto with this sandwich for an additional $2.25, but I felt the flavors were fine without any addition. I really like the ambiance here. All the names of the menu items had strong positive associations to it. And the staff was interactive with the diners, helping us break the ice with a question we all answered. I started things off with the effervescent lemonade. It's not your typical lemonade, but one with a strong ginger-flavor kick to it. I really enjoyed the unique blend of ginger and lemonade. Not too strong, but not for the faint heart either. Our group ordered some appetizers, with the most notable being the mushrooms. I couldn't find the name of it on the menu, but these were to die for. Probably the best item I had all night. We followed up with some tacos and the "connected." Ordered the "humble" bowl. I had with a blend of brown rice and quinoa. It was a decent bowl of yam, spinach, and scallion. Whatever type of food you are looking for - Mexican, Italian, American, etc. - there should be something for you on the menu. They also have drinks and desserts. Food tastes good. Sometimes "I Am NOT" any of those lovely adjectives on the menu and I don't want to feel reprimanded for not feeling grateful. That said, I recently had The Lovely Bowl (or maybe it's the I am Lovely Bowl) at a friend's recommendation. Add tofu - this is an absolute must. It's truly great. I've been eating it everyday for a couple of weeks. The butternut squash pasta is also super good, but I found it misleading. It's still regular pasta, the sauce is made of butternut squash though. I always get the $4 lentils and side salad. They're both awesome and priced well. So I've gotten over my issue with the restaurant and since then have learned how many other people felt the same. My friend and I split the bbq cauliflower and the broccolini to start off, already full but eager for more. I ordered the mole enchiladas, which had a lovely taste, a bit of anise in it, and fantastic texture. We were able to find parking on the street, but I think they validate parking in the garage. The names of the dishes are named like "Pure", "Sharing", Eclectic". Our server explained that they encourage people to order by saying "I am [then the name of the dish]". I had a really hard time deciding what to order because everything sounded good! We ordered eclectic and sharing to start (the buffalo cauliflower and nachos). Then we also got pure (asian kale salad), humble (indian curry bowl), and the local salad (it was persimmon, pomegranates with candied pecans and a balsamic vinaigrette). I loved everything we got!! I tasted a couple of different dishes and they were all delicious and tasted wholesome. It also gives you a good feel afterwards instead of the typical stuffed feeling after eating out. The cheesecake are tasting awesome, but are relatively pricy. The staff is super friendly and down to earth. But, the only thing that made me feel that it is maybe not as jolly as it seems is the fact that the busser had no idea about the food and said he never tasted it. I used to absolutely love Cafe Gratitude! Before I lived in LA, it was always my first stop during my monthly visits to LA. Since moving here last summer, my family and I have been really loyal customers. Sadly, things have gone down hill. The prices are bordering on outrageous (if you add a vegan protein to a vegetable bowl, you can expect to spend in the neighborhood of $30 for inexpensive ingredients like lentils and sweet potatoes). Regardless, it's always been a solid option for a healthy meal. On the 28th we ordered delivery, and the restaurant forgot to put my wine order in the bag. When I called to tell them, Eric (the manager?) suggested that I place another order through door dash. So, because they made a mistake, I need to spend more money on delivery fees? Great customer service! Eric was not sympathetic or even apologetic in the least. He didn't even offer to cover the new delivery fees. He acted like he was doing me a favor by refunding me for the item they forgot to include. A serious turn off. I'm amazed anyone with such poor sense of customer service could be a manager. read more

I visited for the first time yesterday after my Stretch Lab appointment next door. I wanted a light brunch/lunch. I am assuming give Covid, their set up is different than usual. You can seat yourself anywhere you want and there are QR codes at the table to order. So you place your order and it is brought to you. At that point you have very little interaction with staff which makes it feel very impersonal. I am supposing with staffing issues post covid this is easier, but I did see a lot of staff milling about the counter/kitchen area. I had to flag someone down to ask what the soup of the day was before I placed the order online. I was told by my Stretch Lab flexologist that I would get affirmations, but none of that happened. Not a biggie. As for the food. I ordered the avocado toast, a bowl of soup of the day, which was a nice broccoli soup..had a nice flavor to it. I also ordered the Mystic..mayan hot chocolate. I ordered it hot, but kinda came to just warm. Taste good but would have been nicer hot. The avocado toast was tasty as well. Perfectly toasted bread, nice amount of avocado with some radish sprouts. I would have liked a little salt on it, but none to be found. Not sure if they even have it! So overall pleasant. Music inside a little loud..I would suggest it slightly lower. Once everyone is talking in this big space, it gets loud. Guy was talking next to me on his cell phone the whole time and was loud over the music. But would not stop me from coming again. Hopefully the experience changes as we are out of covid. If you are going to have just online ordering, perhaps update somewhere with soup of the day. I started with the chai latte, a nicely frothed, unsweetened, delicately spiced tea. My sister and I split the nachos (with coconut bacon) and the tuna (chickpea) sandwich. The nachos had great flavor, crispy tortilla chips, and a good helping of toppings. The coconut bacon didn't add anything to the dish, so will not add that on next time. My sister and I decided to "celebrate" 12 12 12, the last calendar quirk of its kind in our life time by having lunch at Café Gratitude. As a t-bone steak loving meat eater my sister and I often struggle to find a place we can agree on because she tends towards vegetarian/vegan fare. She promised this place would surprise me. The restaurant is attached/adjacent to an "Archstone" apartment complex. There are other shops and stores nearby but the complex is so new and shiny that it looks out of place. We got there before the rush and found nearby street parking without having to pay a meter. I'd describe the restaurant décor as minimalist. The main interior color is white with a few accents in beige. The walls were unadorned with paintings or gaudy wall sculptures. There are 10-12 foot floor to ceiling windows on the opposite side of the entrance so natural light permeates the space and provides an airy, wide open and utilitarian feeling but not necessarily warm or inviting. The main seating area is rectangular in shape where along one wall is continuous bench style seating opposite a chair with a small white table; which is where we were seated along with the other pairs and couples. The middle section is populated with larger tables that can seat groups of 4 guests. Lastly, on the far wall the bench seating/table configuration is repeated. There is an "outdoor" semi enclosed patio area but on this day it was covered with a clear plastic shade to protect guests from the wind and cold. I didn't exactly measure but I felt like we were very close to the couple next to us. It was sometimes difficult to zone them out. I would NOT go to this café if I was going to have a heart to heart because whatever you say can be heard by the party next to you; something to note if you care about such matters. On the other hand it's a great way to make a new friend; oh the stories you could tell if something beyond friendship results. Lastly, the hostess and server were a wonderful contrast to the restaurant space because they were indeed friendly and warm, I certainly felt welcomed. It's said there is a fine line between madness and genius and in looking at the Café Gratitude menu I found a real world example. They don't provide a simple "boring" title to describe a selection you'd find at other restaurants instead they associate positive affirmations to each orderable item; genius or madness, for me, yes to both? I have to admit, for me, it was difficult to look the server in the eye when she asked me what I'd like to have. The experience of ordering felt weird. I'm not sure that I'll never truly be comfortable ordering here, my issue I know but it will be interesting to examine how I feel after a few more visits. I ordered a cup of, truly amazing tea, I think it was called "I am invincible", but I honestly don't remember. It smelled exotic, ethereal and went down warm, comforting with a surprisingly rich and sweet finish. I'm not a tea person but I recommend this one and if I had to I'd drive a hundred miles for a cup I would. As far as my meal "I am awesome" was a sandwich made with herb crusted eggplant, on grilled crunchy bread, with marinara sauce, tomatoes, nuts, basil (at least that's what I remember) and served with small side salad. The bread was crunchy but not chewy and the eggplant was cooked well with a crunchy crust while not the least bit oily. Lastly, the marinara sauce added richness to every bite. My biggest disappointment with the sandwich was the lack of flavor punch. I was begging for a spicy note. Also, I don't often have to add salt to food but this is the first time in a long time that after my first bite I was looking for the salt and pepper shaker. My sister had "I am liberated" she told me that everything on the plate was literally raw or uncooked. It certainly didn't look any different from cooked noodles with pesto. From my view it looked very substantial and she swears it tasted "amazing" We shared a small dessert called " I am rawmond joy", a mixture of coconut and almonds shaped in a ball covered with chocolate; every bite was heavenly goodness. Though it was worth the wait it arrived literally fresh out of the freezer and we couldn't dig in until it thawed sufficiently next time I'll order it in the middle of my meal. Overall, it was probably the healthiest and surprisingly most filling meal I've had in weeks. I certainly didn't go home hungry. If you're a confirmed meat eater Café Gratitude will probably be as exotic to you as sushi. However if want to try a exotic, unique, satisfying and delicious vegetarian/vegan menu Café Gratitude is definitely a great place to visit. I'm certainly going back. Truly grateful for the experience even though we had to wait maybe 30 minutes for the food because apparently they only have one oven to make the pizza in and my bestie chose 'I'm Giving' pizza, which he tremendously enjoyed, while I had the 'I'm Fantastic' which most certainly was, as it filled me up halfway through eating it, which I was thrilled about because these days it seems I get hungry after eating so then I eat much more than I need to even though it's vegan, plant-based, or raw vegan. The flavors and textures were like a symphony in my mouth. It's the kind of meal that you want to eat slowly to capture the nuances. The service was beyond super friendly, it felt like being home. One recommendation I would make for the restaurant is that it could be lighter/brighter on the interior. The decor was very peaceful, the lampshades were swaying in the breeze from the open air (front door and patio). The nachos were pretty tasty, I liked all the different toppings; however I would easily give best vegan nacho award to Gracias Madre. One star off because I've been missing their vegan tiramisu, but it's been off of their menu for a while now. :( The food is amazing as usual! Whether it's the whole bowl or eggplant quinoa pasta, eating at CG always gives me so much joy. Service is on point and the outdoor patio is super cute. Came here for lunch this week with my friend who is currently eating vegan and comes here often. I'm open to the idea of vegan meals and not mind skipping seafood or chicken every now and then... but I still eat chicken, turkey and seafood. With that being said... I went through the menu options and ended up choosing the local salad. Asparagus and peaches are the highlight in the salad and everything about the salad I enjoyed. It was my first time here and my experience was above average. Indoor and outdoor seating. Walking in, asking for outdoor seating, we got sat right away. Customer service was on point. Very helpful with the menu. On the pricey side. I paid about $20 for my salad. If I come back I would like to try the caesar wrap. Cafe Gratitude is 100% organic and plant based. If that's your thing then stop in for a meal. Street parking is a little tricky but I did see a sign outside that they have a 90 minute validated parking lot. I AM LOCAL. read more

Dined here today with a friend for brunch. My chilaquiles were extremely disappointing to the point that I had to send them back which I've rarely ever done. They came back to me later in the same condition as I originally received them. Not wanting to make a fuss I just ate them and moved on to dessert. The tiramisu was fantastic as was my wine and espresso. I'll be back to try a different menu item since I did like the vibe but it does seem very unfortunate to pay 20 dollars for a plate of cold food. read more

I have been coming here regularly for years, and the quality of food, as well as the quality of service, has consistently gone downhill. It's so disappointing. The food regularly comes out cold or undercooked... if it's not undercooked it's often overcooked.... I've been to the Gratitude Kitchen in Beverly Hills and the food there usually tastes like a 5 star restaurant compared to this one in Venice, which regularly registers around a 3 star restaurant. It's so disappointing, the quality control is clearly lacking, even though we are paying premium prices. It's gotten sloppy. When I'm paying $23 for a dish, I expect excellent quality, not sloppily done assembly line bowls with half the ingredients cold, and stingy portions of every ingredient except the cheap ones. The seaweed salad is truly awful, both in flavor, and in stingy amount of seaweed actually in it. The kale isn't even marinated. The fried mushroom sandwich is so over-fried it's barely chewable. The buffalo cauliflower is fried but somehow always manages to be mostly raw and barely cooked Whole Bowl is often served nearly cold, and also usually offers a stingy portion of 3 or 4 sprouts, 2 small pieces of badly cooked kale, and never enough sauce. Sometimes the sauce is watery and flavorless. Sometimes it's thick. You always have to order extra sauce with everything on the menu in order for it to have any flavor at all. If you go to Juicy Ladies you can get a parallel bowl to the Whole Bowl, but it comes with a generous portion of all the ingredients. And It's cheaper. And has more than enough sauce. Many of the waiters are sweet but regularly don't write down my order, and then seem irritated when it comes out wrong and i ask them to fix it. Many times the server comes to greet me and then disappears I've been a loyal customer of Cafe Gratitude for years and eat there for convenience and its organic standards ... but i am rarely excited to come here, and am disappointed in the food quality 7 times out of 10. read more
