Covid-19 Note: if you're trying to be safe during the pandemic this is NOT the place to order takeout from. Their "50%" capacity still meant that every single table was very full. I wasn't comfortable being indoors around that many maskless people (at least 50+) and there were tables very close to the hostess stand where you pick up the takeout. No plexiglass or other precautions to separate you from the diners. Food: quick story time! My boyfriend and I had just drove down to OC for LDW. Picture it: we're tired, and starving after 4 hours of traffic. We can't find anything so we decide to eat at this random little stop called "Cafe Mirage," and OH MY F****** GOD! IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST PLACES I HAVE EVER EATEN AT IN MY LIFE. It was so good we went there again the following night and brought more people with us! Our first night my boyfriend and I ordered their 8 oz angus burger and their crap dip to share. The burger was cooked perfectly and melted in our mouths. It was juicy and came with beach fries that were great! The crab dip was warm and came with bread. There was so much crab in the dip, and the dip itself was so creamy. Then the 2ND night my boyfriend and I got the Cesar salad, and the 6 oz steak with a crab cake. YALL...that Cesar salad was absolutely mind blowing. It was just a Cesar salad but it was the best I've ever had so you can only imagine how the rest of their more "intricate" meals taste. I was also able to try their lamb lollipops and their beach fries with bacon, cheese, and ranch. I bet you can guess what I'm going to say but the lamb was cooked perfectly. The meat melted in my mouth and was seasoned BEAUTIFULLY. The fries were not the best cheese fries I've ever had but they were still top 5. If you can't tell by now I love this place and I plan on returning to OC just for this restaurant. Service: both nights we went to eat at Cafe Mirage, our waiters were awesome. They were very nice and gave great service. The 2nd night I had the strangest request to put something in their fridge weird I know) but they were very kind and willing to help me. Couldn't say enough great things. Other: there was a wait for this place the first night we went. It was about 20-30 mins, so be prepared for a wait. The place itself is on the small side and has both indoor and out door seating. There is also a bar inside the restaurant. Prefect for dinner and drinks! The food is also very reasonably priced in my opinion. Affordable and delicious is an amazing combination, especially in OC. Good food and friendly staff. One of THE LOUDEST RESTAURANTS I ever visited, largely due to the cramped space and the concrete floor. I was disappointed when I explained the problem to the manager. I always wanted to use that word to describe a meal and it fits perfectly. Shrimp, scallops and grouper in a creamy pot pie filling with a flaky puff pastry. All things worked together beautifully. Pot roast was tender and extremely tasty. Mashed potatoes were awesome and the gravy over all was just like my moms! I was stuffed but my lovely better half had a piece of the peanut butter pie. She said it was one of the best she's had. Rich but not overwhelmed by the peanut butter flavor. Ended a great meal with an exclamation point! Our server Natalia was fantastic as well. Right away the hostess was a bit snippy and said " we are booked up till 8:00" we said that fine, after all it was a Saturday night in August, no problem. We had the crab cake sandwich (just ok), cheeseburger (my kid said it was fine), smoked tuna dip (too much mayo- it was mayo dip), fried green tomatoes with shrimp (shrimp was frozen out a bag and not seasoned, tomatoes were greasy - like dripping with grease - badly coated, flavorless nonsense), the Greek salad was basic, difficult to eat due to the large romaine leaves, and cost $10. What a joke for food quality. Also, the hostess was rude to my toddler more than once. Not family friendly at all. Unprofessional. They do *not* follow Covid protocols. Tried this place for the first time looking for a salad to go. The hostess was amazingly friendly. Ended up getting the shrimp and grits, appetizer, and a Caesar salad. The shrimp and grits was amazing! The Caesar salad was very disappointing. The "lettuce" was basically the core of the Romain lettuce rather than the fresh leafy greens. The salad was a light green, almost white. I would consider going back for the grits, but I do like a good salad to go along with my meal. read more

The waiter was really nice and accommodating. I was in the mood for crab dip. Unfortunately what is marketed as a famous/popular dish on their menu was rancid. We were served a hot, nicely plated, but extremely fishy and strong smelling spoiled dip. We sent it back. I ordered a seafood pasta with scallops and shrimp. It was a huge portion size but it was completely flavorless. I didn't taste white wine at all. I ate the shrimp and scallops and set it aside. We came here on the last night of a week long vacation and I'm so glad we found this place because it was the BEST meal we had the entire trip. I have to say I was initially a little sketched out by it being in a strip mall next to a dollar tree but boy am I glad we gave it a shot. Two adults, two teenagers and a 6 year old, everyone was thrilled with their dinners and ate all of it. We had the fried mozzarella(special) and crab dip as the apps and both were amazing, had the steak and cake and both were phenomenal, steak came with a Big Chunk of garlic butter on top and was cooked perfectly. I ordered twin breast duck with sautéed apples with finger potatoes and Brussels and it was delicious. The decor was neat and pleasant and i would not have expected such a highly rated restaurant tucked next to a dollar store but hey it works. We had Fried Green Tomatoes with Shrimp and Crab Dip as the appetizers. Both were delightful and just enough for the five of us to have a taste without getting filled up. The food was good but mine was not as good as my better half's which brought this review down to three stars. He ordered the flat iron steak with a crab cake. He said the flat iron was extremely flavorful and cooked perfectly. Unfortunately I ordered the chicken breast with a crab cake on top and Imperial sauce (mustard and mayo?) So the clincher here is that the chicken breast almost looked like it had been poached, but it was still really tough. It wasn't over cooked because when you over cook chicken breast it gets mealy, it almost seemed like it had been under cooked and barely poached enough. Poaching doesn't really give any flavor and it had a weird kind of gray color to it. Would've expected the chicken breast to have been at least pan fried or grilled before the crab cake was placed on top. They really need to change the cooking method for this. My mistake was not complaining about it for fear of kitchen retribution and I just ate it. The other reason I did not complain was because I thought poaching will certainly have fewer calories than pan frying and thought maybe that was why they cooked it that way so the dish would not be too rich. The crabcake on top did not have very much jumbo lump crab meat in it. It had good flavor but too much mayo binder and that really fine almost shredded looking crab meat for my taste. The roasted red potatoes that came with both of our dishes had a nice brown color on the cut surface and the sautéed yellow and green zucchini were perfectly cooked. They do not offer any bread service, we also did not ask for any. We ordered the caramel bread pudding for dessert and it was very warm and tasty, but again I noticed that this place might be trying to cut down on calories as the bread pudding was not very rich. It did have an eggy, moist texture and tasted good but did not seem to appear to have much butter in it. They do have a lot of affordable sandwiches and wraps on the back of the menu that are also available at dinner. Perhaps that is why this place is so crowded on the weekends as it is quite affordable versus many of the other options in the area. We might return for one of those sandwiches. read more

We dropped in around 7:00 on a Monday and the small interior was completely full. Luckily, they have a cute and spacey patio out back. I ordered the caprese panini with potato salad and the DH ordered the ham panini with fries. Everything was delicious and tasted fresh. AND, we were in and out for under $30! This place won't scream "eat here", but if you check out their specials board, you may be intrigued - we were - and it's now our favorite nearby restaurant. We've never had anything but fantastic service. Favorites include shrimp & grit cakes, steak chimichurri wrap and lamb lollipops. The cocktails are fabulous, and it's fun to enjoy some with a few small plates on their little patio. My only regret is that I've never had room for dessert, and it can get a little loud in the dining room - but I try to visit every time I'm in town. read more
