Cafe Sorriso may look just like a regular cafe on the outside, but you'll find the likings of a small vietnamese restaurant in disguise on the inside! :) They do have the regular coffee, teas, biscuits, etc. and since it is a asian shop in you will find the easy to sell asian boba drinks. Can't say I have tried those, but looks OK from the pictures/menu. I prefer to go to the trusted T4 though if I get the cravings in the area. But one thing I can say is that their Vermicelli dishes are the bomb. Have tried their Grilled Chicken with Eggroll + Vermicelli (~$8), also the ones with prawns. Their fish sauce + the vermicelli is delicious and refreshing for a nice lunch that's not too heavy. The eggrolls also come out hot, crispy, and savory which hits the spot that contrasts with the cool vermicelli with sauce. My wife got the fresh shrimp roll which was also a refreshing and light appetizer, and likes the Bahn Mi (vietnamese sandwiches) here. They offer free WiFi and also outdoor seating. Only thing about indoors is that the place is small so the tables are close to one another. Hard to have a private conversation or if you are seeking some quiet. Often can hear patrons on the other side of the room. Recommend bringing some headphones is if you want to study here and don't like the noise. Still, good place for a light and delicious lunch though. read more

Definitely don't get any thing with boba. I was waiting for a friend to grab lunch and ordered a Thai iced tea with boba. The grossest drink I've ever had. The Thai iced tea was way to sweet and the boba was definitely old. I had to ask her to take it back out and it cost extra. I guess the sandwiches are good. But I'm not waiting here again. read more

Before we get started, there's one major thing y'all should know.. They have a very clean bathroom.. Today I had the Grilled pork banh mi and it was delicious. Delicious sandwiches, especially their Vietnamese sandwiches. A mere $6.25 for a meal with free drinks & chips! A wide variety of drinks such as; Thai iced tea, iced coffee, iced tea, soda, water, Frappuccino. They also have good Vietnamese food; Like vermicelli noodles, lemon grass chicken, spring rolls, and etc. Their customer service is great as well. Good service and friendly conversation. I feel like this place is so underrated. I love coming here when I am working from home or I just want to go to a place where I can write or read a book. This is the place! My favorite thing to get from here is the grilled pork bahn mi with Vietnamese coffee. They only have a few bahn mi combos but they are so good. Because I am not exactly in the area of where all the Vietnamese people are currently selling Banh Mi, of course I had to branch elsewhere to get it. This cute little cafe is located on the corner close to Safeway. There is private parking as well as street parking, but I don't imagine it gets that busy unless it's peak hours during lunch. There is available seating inside and outside of the cafe itself, more for intimate seating, not necessarily good for parties itself. Customer service was ok, nice. Constantly on the move. Pricing is the main reason I gave it a 3 stars. Personally, I don't believe a Vietnamese sandwich should be approximately $6.50 including a drink and chips. Even at the more authenticated spots, they're a little cheaper than that. For the size itself, at that price - no bueno. The specialty sandwich is alright, you can't go wrong in making it. I met one of my favorite vendors here for a cup of coffee near the end of the day to go over some critical issues and do a little midterm planning. At the time, neither of us realized the store closes at 5. In retrospect, this should have been apparent by the fact that nobody greeted us when we entered and they offered to make me an Americano when I ordered a standard cup of coffee. Clearly, they didn't want to make a new pot and are not set-up to do a "pour-over". This looks like a great place. The food looks good, the decor is fun and I'm guessing they do a far better job in the morning (and probably at lunch). I'll be back to see what the experience is like earlier in the day. I've been stopping by this cafe since I moved to San Leandro over a decade ago. It's a quaint spot and a great place to relax and read or get free wi-fi. I have sampled their sandwiches in the past but for my last visit I had chai and a slice of coffee cake. I'm not usually a coffee cake fan but this cake was moist and delicious. If you want more elbow room, sit on the patio. Otherwise, make yourself at home at one of the little tables. read more

Being a San Leandro native, trips to downtown SL have always seemed to involve passing by Cafe Sorriso and never going in. When I was back in town during one of my breaks, I came here with a friend to grab a couple of drinks and just to sit and chat! The moment you walk in, you can tell that it feels really homey, quaint, and cozy. You can either sit inside or outside on the patio. If it's a nice day and you don't mind the background noise of cars passing by, I would suggest sitting outside. I personally like having a slight breeze in the air, natural lighting, and it doesn't hurt to people watch - you never know what you might see! Cafe Sorriso feels like it would be a great place to get some work done and study! They offer FREE WIFI and have table space for you to spread your wings, I mean your books and whatever else you need to study, and get right to work! While I can't say much about the food served here, but it's on my hit-list for things to try next time I'm back in town. The drinks I have tried so far were pretty good, but not amazing. My friend ordered a Thai Tea & I got a latte. No complaints about the Thai Tea, I had a sip and it was pretty sweet but also had that nice bitter (but not overly bitter) tea taste to it! My latte was pretty good, but I wasn't too impressed by it. Parking is doable, there's so parking spaces in front of the cafe but during busy hours those spots might be full. but you can also park in the streets! I just went there and got a veggie sandwich. Bread is cold, the main ingredient is avocado... has less than a half avocado, 2 slices of cucumber, 2 slices of tomato and lettuce, this for 6 dlls!!!!! It's a nice place to sit and have a very reasonably priced food, but the food isn't great. I had a macha latte, but it didn't taste if macha, a mint tea that tasted strange leaving me wondering if it was something in the cups, or water, and spring rollls that were mostly full of noodles, but with a nice peanut sauce. Was actually driving to Zocallos and caught Sorriso in the corner of my eye and decided to stop by to check it out. A small private parking lot is located to the side of this little house/cafe. How convenient. If you can't find any spots here, there's street parking + the Safeway lot across the street. The interior can only be described as cozy. It's obvious this was once a residential property which was converted to a cafe/restaurant. There are: family photos on the walls, old posters of "Boba Tea," printed MS Word created Lunch specials scotch taped to the walls, etc. I found it charming. Your mileage may vary. They offer most coffee/milk variations + breakfast food items that you'd find at most coffee places. I was surprised by their vietnamese cafe selection of smoothies, milk tea, vietnamese coffee, egg rolls, and even banh mi. I was intrigued enough to try the Vietnamese Lunch Special. A little over $7 for a big Banhmi, Iced Coffee, Bag of Chips. The banhmi was surprisingly large and packed with a good amount of ingredients. The guy that makes it is Vietnamese so there's some authenticity kudos for Sorriso. The Iced coffe was pretty ordinary, but strong...so kudos as well. Bag of chips is a bag of chips from the Frito Lay company. What do you want to know about that?! There's wifi if you ask for the pass code. The seating is cozy inside and you feel like you're sitting in someone's living room. Plenty of natural lighting and a quiet volume for you to get some work done. The only reason I gave them 4 stars was because service was a tad slow when I arrived. They were waiting for someone to come in for their shift and one person was making the coffees and taking orders as well. No biggy though...what's one star? Who reads these things anyways? Always passed by it, but today was the first time I frequent it. I got the half turkey sandwich and salad combo and it was filling and super delicious. The turkey in the sandwich was juicy and the ranch dressing for the salad was very rich. It was reasonable on the pocket. The food also came out really quick! I also appreciate that they have outdoor seating. I definitely need to try their Vietnamese Sandwiches next time. It looks really promising and their combos come with a chip and drink! read more

It is a rare thing to find a coffee place that offers real food. Most places might offer some sort of pastries, or muffins, or some other sugar-carb to spike your metabolism while amped up on caffeine. I don't understand why human beings do this to themselves, maybe it's because most coffee shops leave no other options. Maybe they just do it because everyone else does it. Anyhow I had a ham, egg, and cheese croissant with my mocha and both were good. What got my attention was the curb appeal however. It's a cute house with a lovely porch and lots of patio heaters. I really want to give this place a higher rating, but the Mandarin chicken salad was very disappointing. It took 15 minutes for my salad to arrive and by then I was hangry, my lunch break was almost over, and it did not look as pictured on the menu. The lettuce was cut into long strips, there were zero mandarin oranges, there was wayyy too much dressing (which btw consisted of fish sauce with black pepper), and 2 of the chicken pieces were undercooked. If I wasn't in a hurry, I would have made them redo the salad but for now I'll just avoid this place. read more

What a wonderful cafe. It's Google Maps and Yelp description made me think I was walking to some kind of boring American "comfort food"place, and its first picture when listed with other San Leandro cafes on Yelp is a meat sandwich in a red plastic tray, that doesn't give the feeling of "cafe" at all. But this place is a seriously good cafe, with good coffee drinks, good food, solid fast wi-fi, and a great ambience to work at your laptop. Who knew there was a cool cafe in San Leandro? This is one of my go-to homework cafes. It is a nice open place with lots of indoor and outdoor seating with free Wi-FI. The coffee is good and they have nice assortment of things to order. Including wonton soup and egg rolls with traditional breakfast items and pastries. I also like come coming here because it supports a local business instead of corporate Starbucks. Although, I do go there too when I have to study late. read more

UPDATE: I still give this place five stars because their food is so damn good. They have great egg sandwich/ coffee combos at great prices. I always passed by this place and never went in for the past four years. Yesterday morning I needed a bagel and latte STAT before work and to my surprise the inside was very homey. Super cute set up. Lady at the register was very nice and my hazelnut latte did the job and woke me right up. However, this morning I woke up feeling under the weather and remembered I saw chicken wonton soup at Cafe Sorriso so I called 10 min til 8 (they open at 7) and I asked the lady if they had wonton soup yet and she said normally no but she'll make it for me and to be there in 7 min. Bless her soul! I also got fresh squeezed OJ. Wonton soup was very tasty and they're not shy with the wontons like most places to go give you 4-5 and there was also huge slices of white meat chicken. This is a cool Vietnamese cafe. Different from all the other ones I've been to. The atmosphere is very relaxing, a great place to unwind or to study. They have a lot of food items and drinks that won't break the bank. Its also a plus that after you order, the staff brings out everything to your table. We threw a 15th birthday party for our Grey-muzzled Chow-Shepherd mix last Saturday. We searched San Leandro for a dog-friendly restaurant that would accommodate our specific requirements - an outside patio removed from the general clientele, good food, a catered menu, and most of all, a helpful, pleasant and flexible staff. We found all of these in Cafe Sorriso. Jennifer was extremely helpful with the arrangements and made sure that we had the tables, etc. we needed. The food come out when we asked and our guests all enjoyed the Crispy Spring rolls, vegetarian spring rolls, Vietnamese sandwiches and Saigon salad. Oh - and they threw in the coffee for free - an unexpected perk. We will be back for brunch/lunch again, and recommend that you give them a try. We didn't use the inside seating, but it looks very comfortable as well. read more

Cute little spot in DTSL. Stopped by here one Saturday afternoon as I saw they serve Vietnamese Iced Coffee. They also serve food but, we just wanted beves. Better half got their Watermelon Icy, said there wasn't much flavor to it. My Iced Coffee didn't taste like legit Ca Phe, more like old black coffee with ice and with milk, not condensed milk. Since it was late in the afternoon, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, but that's no reason to compromise quality whether it's the first or last beve of the day. I'd still give them another shot, hoping my next visit will be way better. My favorite cafe work spot in San Leandro. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and also have a comfy couch if your butt gets numb sitting on the stiff chairs for so long. They have a good number of outlets, and the Banh mi sandwich combo with chips and coffee is a great deal for only $6.25. read more

I've been eyeing this place for a few years now especially every time that I go to the T4 or iTea. Finally tried it out, came here to grab a bite to eat and study also. It's a small, cozy cafe that resembles a house with a small parking lot on the side with a few spots (or you find street parking or park across the other plazas). It's a bit louder than your typical Starbucks because there's actually a lot of business/personal meetings that were held here for the a couple of hours I stayed here so a lot of chit chat in the small room. I wish there were more choices for noodles/pho because the chicken noodle soup one was pretty bland. Shrimp rolls were good but on the pricey side. Jasmine milk tea was a bit bland but it was okay. read more

My friend wanted to meet up for lunch today, and I was happy to try Cafe Sorriso since I'd never given it a shot. Walking up to the door and in, I realized this is actually an old Craftsman home that's been turned into a cafe; remnants of the building's former purpose as a house can still be seen in the beautiful windows, trim, and the built-in underneath the cafe's picture window, adding to the coziness of the interior. The menu is large, so give yourself a few minutes to decide what you want if you've never been here. I figured I'd go with a chicken salad sandwich and a can of soda, and was pleased to find you get a free bag of chips with a sandwich. Originally I'd intended to try one of their Vietnamese sandwiches but after I saw the noodles that one guy ordered I think that'll be the next thing I go for in the future. My sandwich was very tasty, just don't expect much in terms of "salad" in this chicken salad - it's just shredded chunks of chicken in mayo, but hey, it's good, and the sandwich has a ton of veggies. This is a very nice place to sit and chat with friends or study, as the majority of people were doing that were here. I seriously laughed derisively to myself when I read some of the complaints about this cafe: apparently you have to have purchased something in order to get the password for the wifi... I'm failing to see what the issue is with that. Cafe Sorriso has to pay to have wifi, and this isn't a public library, so yeah, they're gonna expect that you at least fork over a couple bucks for a pastry if you want to mooch off of their wifi and electricity all day. And seriously, someone gave this place two stars and questioned the quality of this cafe because they were playing KOIT and claimed the volume was too loud for them to study - again, this isn't a library so you can't expect dead silence, and no one cares what your musical preferences are. Get headphones. What a tool statement. All in all I really liked this place and have a new place to walk to to get sandwiches and lunch, especially after yesterday's dismal experience at Subway. It's cute, cozy, and has a great variety of food. My one peeve? Office furniture on the patio. I can't stand when businesses (especially cafés and restaurants) use office furniture for tables and chairs, it looks cheap and outdated. Invest in at least decent looking furniture to keep up the ambiance of a cafe, not a 90s film based in an office. read more

this cafe is just opposite the pelton center and across from safeway. this place was virtually empty when i visited (before noon). they have a sign not welcoming outside food and drink. the place is clean and there are many tables to work at. no tv's were on. the quiet i enjoyed. menus: bagels, imperial rolls (6.25) coffee, etc. entree: breakfast bagel special(4.50): ham, egg, & cheese bagel(3.99)+ 12oz. coffee(1.65) pretty good deal. two slices of good thin ham (not the water added kind) with some cheese, lots of scrambled egg on a large bagel. tastewise, it was ok. coffee-sorriso house blend, kenyan, was very smooth, no bitterness. free wifi read more
