This place rules. I've been meaning to write about Cafe Topes for a few months, but the customer service recently prompted me to finally sit down and comment. I've only ever come here with my puppy/bff and there are always seats available on their charming patio across from the boys and girls club. The owners and servers alike are so kind and friendly, and always stop by to say hello to your pup and check in that everything is satisfactory. I normally order an iced horchata, and have tried their ultimate grilled cheese, fish burrito, carne asada tacos, crack benny, and the cinnamon roll. It is all so delicious-- they give you quite a bit of food for what you're paying, and they're good as leftovers as well. The last time we were here, they had run out of sweet potatoes for sweet potato fries. A very kind server came out and asked what I wanted instead. I thought I would just get some fruit, and I figured it would come out as a small side in a cup. Well whoever put together my fruit plate of prosperity is responsible for my being the most nourished I have ever been in my life. The same server brought out a beautiful huge bowl filled to the brim with berries, bananas, pineapple, honeydew, blueberries-- everything delicious. He also brought out a box for my leftovers. I was so impressed with the portion size of fruit, and really grateful that I wasn't just swindled out of money for sweet potato fries. If I could come here every day, I would. Their food is delicious, the outside patio is lovely and shaded by umbrellas, and the people are kind and helpful. read more

Eggs Benedict was amazing! Highly recommended. I hear they have great cinnamon rolls, but they tend to run out after 11. We substituted with a cro it, which was good. Order at the front and then they deliver it to your table. They have indoor and patio seating. read more

This place is pretty cool and they have cool variety of meal that you can try. Hubby had their tomato pesto avocado toast which was super lekker. At the other hand i was in mood for something light, so i just ordered their fruit yogurt parfait which was just ok as i've had a better yogurt parfait before. Their fresh OJ was great, love it. I've been here twice now, and unfortunately I am not impressed. I was excited that this place was opening after being delayed for a while, so maybe I built it up in my mind. Inside there are small 4 and 2 top tables, which you can put together for larger groups. There is also some outside seating, but it's a fairly small place overall. There's a pretty cool wall covered in succulents, but other than that there isn't much decor. The French press coffee was the best thing about my most recent meal, but sadly the food isn't stellar. I've had the crack and eggs and the pork belly "bacon" with eggs and hash. Neither dish had much to celebrate. Perhaps lunch is better, so I'll be back at least once more to try that. 3 stars! read more

All time favorite breakfast place! If you plan on going for breakfast on the weekend the earlier the better because it gets busy. I have tried several things on the menu and they have all been amazing. They make really good salsa which is served with the breakfast burrito. My all time favorite is their cinnamon roll French toast (have to go fairly early to snag a cinnamon roll before they sell out) and their horchata latte. You can't go wrong with anything served here! Always a good choice for breakfast, and there's only a couple of things that keep me from giving it five stars, one they forgot to bring me and my wife my coffee and when we asked for it they said they would bring it and still didn't bring it. I've tried this place twice. The 1st time with a buddy after surfing. He got the crack and eggs. I got some kind of breakfast burrito. We both got the runs within 1/2 hour. Second time I just went in for the cinnamon roll. I ordered two. They were so dense I could hardly chew it. Seemed not cooked. I gave my wife the other. Without even tasting it she said it wasn't cooked. She tasted it and threw it away. Get these kinks worked out. I'll give them one more try before moving on. read more

Ok, so...the day I came in here I was just riding my bike around cbad.. and saw this totally different new little place on the corner. So I was intrigued and had to try it out. Plus my stomach was growling, so I had to feed the beast. Let me just start off by saying.. ummmm WOW!!! This place smelled delicious. I couldn't choose. So I finally just said screw it! So I picked the apple sandwich with a thick layer of fig spread that they put on my toasted bread. Inside was this amazing brie cheese that tasted like they made it fresh with slices of green apple in the middle.. This is hands down the best grilled cheese apple sandwich I "EVER" had!!! Let's talk staff.. So VERY helpful in helping me choose this awesome sandwich. The young beautiful brunette girl,with the really long hair was so helpful and extremely friendly! The manager was as well very helpful with my drink selection. With his recommendation I.ordered a iced horchata drink with a shot of expresso.. yuuuummm!! Prue goodness!! Our neighbors recommended this place to us. They said it was awesome. Well, it is! The Gerry Bomb nachos were amazing with fresh made chips and the Ultimate Grilled Cheese was really tasty. I wanted to give this place 5 stars for the food, but the atmosphere (flies... Open doors... ) and the fact that I got my cappuccino (on a Tuesday morning at 9am) after I had finished over half of my breakfast, didn't leave me with the same smile that my food did. The sauce on my Benedict was beautiful and a bit citrusy. The muffin had a nice toast and the eggs were poached perfectly. I chose the special... Pork belly.... Mmmmm! I've been here several times now, but the last two times were not up to par. Eggs were under cooked, potatoes were cold, cinnamon roll did not taste the same as before at all! Also, had to go to the counter to get iced tea refills and silverware....employees were just standing there talking to each other. Really bummed. The key to a great restaurant is consistency. Being from Chicago, I am admittedly a food snob and have been skeptical of the numerous 4.5-5 star reviews in Carlsbad and San Diego. But this place very much meets its rating. They graciously accommodated my custom order (breakfast burrito with tri-tips steak inside and avocado on the outside) and it was delicious. Perhaps the best breakfast burrito I've ever had. If I could give 4.5 stars, I would. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because the wait for our food was long. read more

Was craving some good breakfast food and GOD DANG DID I GET FANTASTIC BREAKFAST FOOD. I ordered the mac'n bennadjct (poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, avocado, English muffin, and king crab) SOOOOOOO GOOD. Eggs were perfect, avocado and crab were fresh, great sauce (opt for the potatoes they're better than the hash browns) My boyfriend is a freak and doesn't like breakfast food and he got a burrito that he loved (and the guy works at chipotle!) These guys make the best grilled cheeses! I love the barbecue chicken grilled cheese! Oh my gosh soo good. Also they have a really yummy mixed green salad with almonds and I think strawberries it was yummy and a good size. Anyway my favorite part are the awesome grilled cheese, you can tell these guys put a lot of love into their food and recipes. It'd in a super convenient location to right across from my fitness studio Fit Monkeys. Went here for the first time the other day with my boyfriend and sister. The atmosphere was really nice and cozy and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The food however was another story. All three of us ended up ordering the double header benedicts. I had the crab and the country Benedicts with fruit and was VERY disappointed! Both were served luke warm which quickly faded to ice cold, and the eggs which were poached and supposed to be served with slightly runny yolks were way over cooked and ended up being cold boiled eggs on top of cold sausage and covered in cold gravy. Yucky! My sister also ordered a brownie which looked delicious on display but tasted like it may have been delicious at one time, but ended up sitting out for 2 weeks and lost all hope of flavor. We spent $62 on breakfast at this place and ended up leaving still hungry and broke. read more

I had a really nice sandwich at Topes. I like the creative menu and that the location is in an up and coming part of the village. The décor is inviting as well. For a place such as this, not bargain but not pricey either, I found the room temp water in the keg to be less than what I would have expected -or wanted. It would seem as if ice would be easy. Especially needed on warm days. Ice in the keg and a bowl of lemons would push this place up a couple of whole notches. This is a self-serve type place where you order at counter and they bring food, but you get your own misc items. We ate outside and the supply table was empty pretty much empty. The tables outside had no cutlery so we had to go hunting. The did try as he came back with them after we had found some. Seems as if one more staffer might just be the answer. I think I would go back and hope that a few details maybe are taken care of by that time. read more
