went for my sisters birthday and although there was a bit of a wait, the person taking our order was super kind. the waitress as well was very kind too. i shared a the crack'n eggs and an orange juice. it was the perfect amount of food. everything was delicious. and the jam they give with the toast is amazing as well. would definitely recommend to any tourists, its very instagram worthy and just an overall relaxing vibe.

Cafe Topes in Carlsbad serves some seriously delicious food, but the overall environment and service could use some tuning. Heads up: you wait in a line to order at the counter, get a number, then seat yourself and wait for food and drinks. If you're expecting table service, this isn't that type of spot. The line was long and moved slowly, though clearly they're not short on customers. There's plenty of seating both inside and outside, which is nice. I ordered the Breakfast Burrito with chorizo and swapped the chips for well-done hashbrowns for an extra charge--great choice, and they nailed it. My partner ordered the Soy Chorizo Scramble, but it came with seasoned potatoes instead of hashbrowns. They fixed it fairly quickly, but the food runner removed our table number while taking the plate back. So when a different runner brought out the corrected dish, she wandered around inside and outside trying to figure out who it belonged to. Just a small example of how the system could be more organized. Drinks were a mixed bag: the iced vanilla latte was average, and the Rumway was so strong my partner could barely taste the pineapple. All that said, the food itself was outstanding. If they tightened up the ordering process and service flow, this place would easily be a top-tier breakfast stop.

I wish I could up my rating because I really do like this place. Unfortunately, the day we came we had a series of misfortunes. My friend loves cinnamon rolls and they are known for theirs, so I thought she'd enjoy it. I had tried one years ago and remembered liking it. We arrived and ordered a cinnamon roll and 2 drip coffees. The girl at the counter asked if we wanted cream & sugar. My friend said she did not want cream, just plain milk because she does not like the thickness of cream. She gave us our coffee, number, one napkin and silverware (forks & knives) and we sat. After a while she brought my friend oat milk. I thought I'd missed that my friend had ordered oat milk (I ended up using it), but after the girl walked away, my friend said she had not. Plus, she didn't bring sugar or spoons and we had to ask for another napkin. The coffee was lukewarm (before adding any cold oat milk) so my friend went in to see if we could get hot coffee. The girl said they would have to brew more. She brought us the cinnamon roll which was huge, warm and flavorful, but $8.50 for a cinnamon roll seems a bit high. Eventually, she brought out our coffees and milk for my friend and they were warmer, but far from hot. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they were having an off day, but it was definitely frustrating. Since both of my issues have been with the coffee I think I will just stick to food if I return.

Love the unique menu items at Cafe Tropes that includes Cardiff Crack eggs Benedict and signature coffee/matcha drinks. Gluten free bread is available for the sandwiches and scrambles. All the pancakes except the protein pancake can be modified GF. The texture of the GF pancake was light and fluffy but the ricotta was lacking the lemon flavor and overall was a bit bland. My husband enjoyed the bananas foster French toast which definitely didn't require syrup from the sweet toppings. The line took us about 25 minutes to get through on a Sunday morning and a majority of the seating is for smaller groups of 2-4 outdoors on the patio.

Cafe Topes in Carlsbad is an absolute brunch gem. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is warm, lively, and welcoming--perfect for a relaxed brunch with friends or family. The menu is creative and packed with delicious options, and everything we ordered was amazing. One of the standout features was their creative mimosa selection. It's such a fun twist on the classic brunch drink and makes the whole experience feel a little more special. Between the great vibe, attentive service, and incredible food, brunch at Cafe Topes was a total win. If you're in Carlsbad and looking for a spot with fantastic brunch and a great atmosphere, this place should definitely be on your list.

Cafe Topes is my favorite spot for brunch. It has this beach, relaxing and pleasant vibes especially in a sunny day. The line was long but it moved very fast. We ordered: - The salad 5/5 It had mixed green, green apple, candied walnuts, strawberries, and blue cheese - Fish Tacos 4.5 / 5 I chose grilled fish. It was topped with pico de gallo, spicy aoli, and cabbage.It was very tasty. - Fish and chips 5/5 Beer buttered fish was so good and it came with a choice of salad or French fries. The amount was very reasonable. - Crab scramble with biscuit 5/5 The crab scramble was very savory and the biscuit was very buttery For drinks we got : - 2 Hawaiian express 5/5 - Hot chocolate with whipped cream 5/5 The service was fast. The staff were very friendly and energetic. It is a great spot for breakfast, brunch or to grab some refreshing drinks.

Came to kickoff the new year with my sister! We finished a busy morning at the movies and then did a little shopping. We came very hungry! And this place did not disappoint. They have dining inside and outside. I ordered a burrito and my sister ordered yogurt with fruit and both were absolutely delicious! You can choose what kind of meat or sides that you want with the burrito. Side options are potatoes, chips, or fruit Meats for the burrito are ham, chorizo, sausage, for bacon I got the side of chips and it comes with salsa. Anything additional like avocado is an extra charge. The hibiscus lemonade was absolutely delicious. Very refreshing. We came during the holiday weekend so it was busy a lot of children. Service was great! Our server was checking up on us very frequently. She made sure our glasses of water were filled. Great location in Carlsbad. Beach is a walk-in distance along with many small stores. I give this spot a 10/10 Thank you so much for your service, and food! We will be seeing you in the future

My favorite breakfast spot in North County. Got the chorizo Benedict and their chorizo is so authentic and fresh! Pro tip: get the potatoes extra crispy-- it is sooo good! Will def be coming back for more! :)

What a lovely spot to add to your list, whether just driving through or in town for a few days, you have to make it over to this spot. This place gets packed but don't let that scare you off from how quick and efficient the food comes out and how well this place works. The workers are all so sweet and friendly and the fact that they go above and beyond for their furry friends is even sweeter. The food for starters since I'm Gluten Free, is a huge hit. From GF pancakes to bread options and sometimes pastries, It's a hit for me everytime. The coffees and the occasional mimosa are also a great compliment for the food. And if you're lucky enough to get your hands on a cinnamon roll, don't hesitate. Cafe Topes is my go to place at the moment!!

In my opinion a very mid brunch option!! My boyfriend and I visited for the second time on a Saturday around noon. Plenty of street parking. The line was out the door and it took 20 minutes to order and another 15 for our food to come out. It's a good space for both indoor and outdoor dining, but a lot of the tables were dirty. Service was average. We ordered the breakfast burrito and chicken sandwich. Apparently they have special menus on the wall but you completely walk past them. The food was pretty mid. Not enough meat in the breakfast burrito but lots of egg. My chicken sandwich was dry. I wouldn't recommend this spot, sorry!

This place was tasty and cute. Definitely had some hipster vibes. Service was really friendly and patient. The food was really good, and filling. Came in the late afternoon on 4th of July and there was no wait. Ordered donut French toast (YUM) and a secret menu where you can mix 2 benedicts -- I chose the crack n Benedict and pork belly one. I felt that the pork belly Benedict was a little on the drier side. I also felt that this place is a bit pricier, which is why I deducted a star. Besides that this place is pretty good. I'd recommend this place to my friends to try. read more

Such a cute little busy cafe. We came here for Sunday breakfast. We arrived at 10 and waited in line for about 15-20 min. You first order then can seat inside/outside. All of the staff were super friendly. The lavender was my absolute favorite. You can taste the lavender and it did not taste artificial. I got a veggie omelette which came with fruit & toast. The toast is homemade and made with perfection. They also have Mickey Mouse pancakes that my little one loved. I will definitely be returning. read more

Would come again. The crack Benedict was delicious, the steak was so tender and just fell apart in your mouth, delicious. The hash browns were cooked to perfection, nice and crisp top and soft inside with light seasoning. read more

I sat at an outdoor table while my partner waited in line (20 minutes). There was a few tables leaving and coming, I did not see anyone clean the tables, staff removed used items on the table. I can see that the tables and seat cushions had stains on them. The 3 eggs, sausage, toast and side of fruit was typical, Sunny side up eggs were very rare, whites were runny. The blueberry honey ricotta toast was exactly those items layered, maybe if the blueberries were fresh, it would be more flavorful. We ate one piece and disposed of the second piece. Coffee was good. Overall the food was average, the servers were very friendly, they delivered the food and came to clear the table. read more

If you would like to pay $15 for a cold grilled cheese sandwich then this is the place for you! The country fried steak, the potatoes, the eggs and grilled cheese were all cold. My grilled cheese was suppose to come with a side salad, since they are out of salads I had to pay an up charge to get potatoes. Hands down, Worse restaurant in town. read more

FOOD I got the smoked salmon benedict with granny potatoes while my friend got the chilaquiles. I liked the smoked salmon benedict since it came with capers, lox, and brie, which I've never had in a benedict before. However, I felt like they put way too much hollandaise sauce. My friend thought the chilaquiles was a little too spicy for her, though I thought it was ok. Perhaps the spiciness was uneven. DRINKS I got the hot matcha latte while my friend got the iced horchata with almond milk. I didn't realize my matcha latte would come sans sugar. That in an of itself is fine but it turned out very milky. My friend's iced horchata was too sweet for her liking. AMBIANCE Very nice ambiance with a succulent wall and a turquoise vintage stove. Overall, it's an ok place for brunch but unfortunately lacking in other areas. read more

I have a hard time understanding why this restaurant gets such high stars. We came here because of the great reviews after trying to find a good restaurant in the area, however it was not at all as good as I had hoped. Like everyone mentioned, you come in and order first at the counter and then find your own seat with your number sign. This is probably the worst part, I felt like I should've just gotten fast food because it does not feel like a restaurant if your ordering at the counter and seating yourself. We found a table outside, but the tables are on an uneven ground so the whole time we had our stuff sliding down because it was inclining and was incredibly uncomfortable. They had the music blasting in the outdoor speakers which was also pretty irritating, I'm not too sure why they even have it so loud outside. If you want water you have to get up and get it yourself inside from this big self serve water container which honestly feels incredibly unsanitary since everyone is touching it and grabbing the cups themselves. The coffee comes with refills but you also have to come all the way back inside to the counter to get it. The only "service" you get is when they bring your food out, but if you need anything else like napkins, refills, or even an issue with your food you have to keep getting up and walking back inside which completely ruins the enjoyment of going to a restaurant. It's also odd to pay before you get your food and then it asks if you want to tip, which how would you even know since you just walked in? The food was nothing spectacular, I got the berry french toast and eggs, the eggs were cooked wrong, the french toast was very sweet with the berries. They forgot part of our order, which they brought eventually but between the wrong eggs and forgetting part of our order we were not even offered an apology. Overall it was a very expensive breakfast that was definitely not worth it. The service was ok, but it's hard to tell when you do pretty much everything yourself. We would not eat here again. I think the best part of the whole restaurant was the cute sign in the restaurant that made me laugh, but that's about it. read more

Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon at 12:45pm. First off, don't be overwhelmed if there's a line out the door! The line will move fast and there's not a lot of space to line up inside. Grab a menu on the right side of the main door to scope what you want to order but beware: there are soooo many good looking options. There's also a few specials available to read on the left wall when you actually walk in. Once you order, you get a number and find a seat inside or on the outdoor patio which is perfect for San Diego. Iced coffee was on point. My girlfriend didn't like the Mexican mocha because it was trying too hard to be Mexican. Too sweet. We got the cinnamon roll first, regular icing. It was the perfect balance of icing, cinnamon and bread-not too sweet or dry. I loved it! It's pretty big so feel free to share it with whoever joins you at your table. I ordered the pork belly benedict because I love pork belly and it didn't disappoint. So many flavors exploding at once. I could taste the light char on the pork belly and the hollandaise sauce cleaned it up at the end. The hash browns were perfect. Girlfriend ordered the country Benedict which was basically a sausage biscuit with egg topped with gravy. Very comforting and tasty. Would definitely want to come back and try some of the other yummy sounding options! read more

Their food is delicious and their coffee is superb. I love coming here because of the sweet owners and nice staff! This is a shop owned by locals, you'll often see them working. From when you first walk up to the delicious smell of draws you in. Clean, with inviting atmosphere. Service was friendly and attentive. We had the Chilaquiles, salsa had the right amount of spice and the tortillas were crispy but yet still smothered in delicious salsa. The 222, egg with your choice of fluffy pancakes or French Toast, cant go wrong with either choice. You can do have bacon or sausage, being that I don't eat meat I substituted for a side of soyrizo, it was amazing. Will definitely be back, specially since we were there later in the day and they had ran out of lemonade. I really want to try their watermelon lemonade. Till next time, happy eating! read more

Always great service and high quality food. I try to get something besides the Cardiff Crack Eggs Benedict but I get it every time. Also had the white Sangria today and it was an excellent breakfast drink. A bit of a line on a Saturday, but moved fairly quickly and had a place to sit so all was good! read more

Best brunch spot we found in Carlsbad,good coffee,fast service if you were in a hurry. Great customer service. Outdoor seating are great if you have kids running around like mine. The price is pretty decent specially it's California. Overall it was a great experience. If I visit SD again I'll probably be back again. read more

Yummy! I adventured out the other day and chose Cafe Topes. The breakfast was fresh and delicious. They have a great variety of hot coffee drinks and the serving portions are generous. A bit crowded and has a casual outdoor atmosphere with plenty of dogs present. Great place to try to start your day in Carlsbad Village. read more

A server named Gina rudely approached me as I was sitting down at a table. I am 8 months pregnant and my feet were swollen from standing in line. I sat down inside and she aggressively asked me to get up and accused me of saving seats. I embarrassedly responded and said, I'm very sorry I'm pregnant and it's hard for me to stand. She argumentatively said, that's the rules you need to get up. I got up in tears obediently doing as she asked. All this to say, there was 8 open tables. And no one was fighting for tables. I included three pictures proving I wasn't taking up room, just trying to catch a break being 8 months pregnant. I just feel that we're supposed to empower women and talk kindly to each other. read more

I should preface this review with I just had coffee so I cannot speak to the food! But boy, was the coffee amazing! It was a Sunday morning and there was a line around the corner. The food must be delicious. A really sweet server told me that if I was just getting a coffee, I could call in a to-go order and pick it up at the front of the line. I decided to save some time and take her advice. I ordered the lavender mocha latte iced. Hot mocha lattes are my go to fancy coffee order, but it was warm and humid so I wanted something cold on this day. I usually shy away from lavender because I'm worried it will tasty soapy like cleaning supplies. I was super glad I took a chance on this drink because I loved it! Very unique. I frequently see lavender lattes on menus, but never with mocha. Somehow, it worked! I also loved the decor; the succulent wall was too cute! I absolutely want to come back for a full breakfast or maybe lunch! read more

We were craving someone sweet for breakfast but wanted to try a different place from out usuals. We decided to come in based on the pictures we saw on Yelp. If you are looking for a place that provides customer service after you have paid and checks in on customers this is not your place. You order your food prior and of course pay for it first. Which seems absurd to ask for a tip upfront but then provide 0 customer service. Make sure you order all your drinks from the start. I asked for a water midway into eating it and never received it nor was I told I would have to pay for one to receive one or what their accommodations were for waters lol. We ordered chilaquiles (pair extra to add chorizo, which had a funky taste), country fried steak and toast with mascarpone and blueberries. Aside from the chorizo everything tasted good. The gentleman who brought out our food was friendly and that was the only interaction we had with good service. read more

One of my favorite breakfast spots in Carlsbad! Their coffee is amazing and their food is delicious. They have indoor and outdoor(dog friendly) seating options. I usually get a Benedict or the pancakes when I go. There's also lots of parking on the street which is very convenient for such a busy area! read more

Did not like at all. Watermelon juice tasted moldy, chilaquiles were soggy and fatty with a bland taste. Country fried steak was decent enough for me to pick off my boyfriends plate. My boyfriend and I came here for breakfast on a Thursday morning. It wasn't too busy, you order at the counter and the people are super friendly! I got the 2-2-2 with French toast, bacon, and eggs. There are lots of beverage options for tea, seltzer bottled water etc. The portions were HUGE and we both cleaned our plates off. My boyfriend got avocado toast and hash browns and the hash browns were PERFECT! I am a little picky with hash browns, but they did it right! This was a neat little place to eat at for Sunday brunch. My daughters and I stopped in for brunch. We ordered, the eggs Benedict (one w steak and one regular) the avocado toast, and a eggs and bacon breakfast. The food was yummy. Almost all was consumed, and we were stuffed. The place was busy with a line around the corner the entire time we were there. There was limited indoor seating and plenty of tables outside. We only had one little issue, we ordered a chai tea latte w almond milk and it tasted bad, like soap. Maybe there was residue in the glass or the almond milk had spoiled, either way it was not able to be consumed. I do not fault them on this, the other drinks were fine and we did not send it back or cause a fuss as they were so busy and everyone was doing their best. I just chalked it up to an accident. It was a bit loud, but it was busy and it was nice to see people getting out again. Not sure about little kids here, my daughters are all adults. I did not see a kid friendly menu. Average cost of a meal was $12 and up, kind of high, but it was good quality food. Pictured here is: the short rib benedict, the Maui pancakes, and to wash it all down, a refreshing glass of blackberry lemonade. The real winner of brunch was the Maui pancakes. These were the fluffiest pancakes, stacked with shredded coconut and topped with a cream cheese drizzle. The shredded coconut gave it texture and a great nutty taste. These tasted almost like ice cream, but not too decadent since we ARE talking about breakfast here! I was quite disappointed with the short rib benedict because the egg was closer to being hard boiled than poached. Super cute, delicious food and coffee. I was looking for a local place with amazing coffee, cinnamon rolls and breakfast burritos to satisfy the whole family and this place delivered. Breakfast burrito was huge and delicious, my husband and I split it. We split the cinnamon roll as a family and it was the highlight of our trip. We got it dirty with extra icing, amazing! Here from out of town and decided to give this place a try. The line was intimidating but it moved quickly. You get in line, order/pay at the counter, find your own table and they bring the food to you. Cashier was friendly and food arrived quickly. Let me say the presentation of the food was excellent! And everything we ordered was amazing. I had the chilaquiles with the "crack" (aka soft and delicious tri-tip steak strips). Meat was tender, and flavors were authentic/fresh. From the moment you walk through the front doors, it's clear that this place is something special. The charming atmosphere, paired with the mouthwatering smells coming from the kitchen, sets the tone for a wonderful dining experience. The music was perfectly selected, with a chill vibe that matched the beach town feel. The staff was attentive and hardworking, always on their feet, and their guidance on the menu was especially helpful as both my husband and I had a hard time choosing. We began with drinks: the Hawaiian Express and the Peppermint White Mocha. The Hawaiian Express was a standout for me--its coconut-infused espresso flavor was absolutely delicious, and I'd rate it a solid 5/5. My husband tried the Peppermint White Mocha but was a bit disappointed, giving it a 3/5. He felt the peppermint flavor was too subtle, and the drink's texture became grainy toward the end. Next up was the Mom's Famous Cinny Roll, and wow--it was amazing! A perfect 5/5. The icing was heavenly, and I'd highly recommend opting for it "dirty" (extra icing) for the full experience. The Cinny Roll itself was light and fluffy, so much so that it felt like you could easily eat several in one sitting. The only slight critique we had was that the cinnamon flavor could have been a bit more pronounced, as the extra icing tended to dominate the dish's flavor profile. Perhaps a sprinkle of cinnamon on top would balance it out, but overall, it was an indulgent treat. Finally, we shared the Crack Breakfast Burrito, which was bursting with bold, flavorful spices. We highly recommend any of their "crack" dishes--they're definitely worth trying. I'd give it a 5/5. If there's a wait for the sauce, don't skip it--it's absolutely worth the wait. One thing we would suggest skipping, though, is the chips and salsa. The salsa was on the watery side, and we ended up not eating much of it. Next time, I'd opt for a different side. However, the house-made chips were fantastic--crispy, well-seasoned, and perfectly paired with the rest of our meal. read more

Cafe Tapas was the perfect spot for my birthday breakfast. Everything about this place made the morning special. I ordered the breakfast burrito, my husband got the Crack Benedict, and my kiddo had the "111." To drink, I had a matcha, and my husband had an iced vanilla coffee. The food was fresh and flavorful -- here's how I'd rate everything: Kids 111 Breakfast: 8/10 -- simple, classic, and perfectly done. Breakfast Burrito: 7/10 -- tasty, but could've been even better with a cream-based salsa like avocado or cilantro crema. Crack Benedict: 7/10 -- the hash browns were unreal, crispy and flavorful. My husband just realized he's not a steak Benedict guy, but that's a personal preference. Matcha: 1/10 -- unfortunately, this one missed the mark. Definitely low-grade matcha and not worth $6. I wouldn't recommend it. Now, the highlight: the service. The staff was incredibly attentive and kind. They even brought a bubble for my kiddo, which he loved! When I mentioned it was my birthday, they surprised me with a complimentary cinnamon roll -- and it was heavenly. I doubt that's a regular thing since they were busy launching their pop-up, but I was genuinely grateful for the gesture. We started this yelp as a way to blog our food and we started off really splendid! We went in mid morning and were surprised by how busy it was (where I come from that's a good sign) first thing we liked was how open the kitchen was, and it looked so clean, a really tall chef was laughing and dancing and it looked like such a good time in the kitchen. Next thing we noticed was the huge menu, so many options, wait 10 minutes for huge options for lunch? Or dive into the giant breakfast? Decided to go with the breakfast, I did the veggie scramble and she did the double header Benedict, lavender coffee is a must as was recommended by the sweet girl at the register (she was training but doing very well) after about 5 minutes out walks these monuments to breakfast, my scramble was the perfect amount of veggies piled into fresh egg scrambled right in that sweet spot 10/10 on the hash browns as well and a nice thick toast. My wife said she's never had such perfectly poached eggs before today. All and all it was really well done. Servers are sweet and that kitchen is a blast to watch! Will be back and often read more

NEVER AGAIN! If you value your time and don't wish to be treated rudely, don't go here! After waiting more than an hour for our food (when we were told the wait would be 30 minutes) I noticed that several people who were in line behind us to order, already had their food and were halfway through their meals. When I inquired about the status of our order, I was told "they are plating it now"...and still waited an additional 15 minutes....for eggs?! We decided to leave and wanted our money back. The manager was condescending and couldn't have cared less that she had some dissatisfied customers. When I asked how it was possible that people behind us in line already had their food and we didn't, she said "I don't need your attitude"! Whoa! Not a voice was raised, not a rude word uttered...other than by her (the manager). Sorry but, north county is filled with way too many outstanding restaurants (who actually remember that their customer is where they make their money!) to waste my time here. read more

Carlsbad just got GOOD ! Cinnamon Rolls ...OM-Gosh ! THE BEST ! Homemade, yummy treat ! Crack and Eggs...perfection.... Pretzel buns....Garlic Burger was to die for....... This Cafe' beats all other cafes in and around Carlsbad... food made with love ! The only reason I deducted 1-star was I really think they should have table Servers, due to the volume of business and such, it would be nice to order and know you have a table especially on weekends when they are busy, it adds a personal touch to the love of food the owners are giving you, I think in speaking with my neighbors and friends who have been here multiple times, they all agreed, table Servers would be a huge boost to business, weekends add a Hostess to seat, Servers for table service, you already have excellent service but that would add the final personal touch to this grand food experience. I really wanted to love this place when I first came here based on all the great things I had heard. Unfortunately, I did not experience any of these great things upon my visit. Service: Girl at front register seemed unenthusiastic and had problems answering questions we had regarding basic menu items. Food: I settled on a classic eggs benedict with no canadian bacon, sautéed potatoes and a coffee. Coffee was basic, nothing special at all. Benedict came out with cold potatoes and very over-poached eggs. After mentioning this to the staff, they took my plate and returned 30 seconds later with a plate that had clearly been microwaved. At this point, I was too hungry to make more of a deal about it. I was going for 2 stars but their cute atmosphere earned another star. There are plenty of other breakfast/brunch places in better locations that are much more worth checking out. read more

Time for an update since my last review was over 9 years ago. 4/5 Crack tacos - fresh, solid, tasty filling, tender meat, didn't skimp on avocado or meat. 2/5 Fish and chips - fish itself was good but the overall breading was soggy and so were the fries. I don't believe in my whole life I have had a soggy fish and chips. How does that even happen? It appeared a dark brown, cooked breading? Did someone leave it sitting on the counter for too long? I don't know but it was terribly disappointing. Definitely missed not having real tartar sauce. I know they are trying to make fun and good food but I find when coming here the food is hit or miss. Most items with the crack tri tip are good and other than that I try to stick to things you can't mess up like breakfast burritos. read more

I've never had anything bad here. The food is not exactly inventive, but very solid. A weekend treat is getting the Crack 'n' eggs for breakfast. It's Cardiff Crack tri tip and eggs and is so so so good every time. I've had their benedict before and their omelets are always spot on too. My only criticisms are that they have gotten my sides wrong on more than one occasion and the line is always ridiculous. But frankly, if you're just having a lazy Sunday brunch, sitting in line for 15 minutes isn't too terrible, is it? Lastly, the succulent wall is very impressive (I happen to love succulents) and sitting in the dining room seems to almost be mellowed out by this giant living wall. Found this amazing place cause it was on our way home and if nothing else the people here are extremely friendly and genuinely happy. I've not come across such nice people in a long time! The food was mouth watering and the portions were big . This is the place to stop if you do not live around here and if you do then you're missing out for sure. On another note the restaurant is clean and the bathroom was clean too. I took my daughter and I didn't cringe when I walked in. It was actually really clean and smelled good . My recent visit to Cafe Topes left me quite satisfied. The chicken fried steak was an absolute highlight, boasting a delightful crispiness and expertly seasoned breading. Opting for the gravy on the side was a wise choice, allowing me to manage the creaminess to my preference. The blackberry Bellini was a burst of pure blackberry goodness - a delightful drink choice. I was equally pleased with the fluffy and delicious hash browns. While my experience was wonderful, a touch more variety in menu options could elevate it even further. I visited Cafe Topes last Labor Day weekend and while the experience had its ups and downs, it left me with mixed feelings. The wait time was quite long, which was a bit frustrating, especially considering the prices were on the higher side. For a cafe with that pricing, I expected a smoother experience. That said, the pancakes were definitely a highlight--fluffy and flavorful. However, the rest of the food was pretty average. I wouldn't say it was bad, but it didn't stand out enough to justify the wait or the cost. Overall, it's worth checking out for the pancakes, but the overall experience could be improved. read more

My husband & I have tried over 1/2 the menu & have yet to be disappointed,, It's hard to find a good family run , eatery Especially in Carlsbad today was no different my husband had the double header (not on the menu yet) classic Benedict & country Benedict on the Same plate. Ridiculous!!!!!! I had the fish tacos soooo good!! The staff is super friendly & the decor is classy & clean We will be back soon it's our favorite spot to just relax & enjoy a great meal.. My boyfriend and I recently visited Café Topes for the first time, and we had a great experience. When we arrived, the line to order was fairly long, but it moved quickly, and the staff were very friendly. I ordered my coffee dairy-free, but it was initially made with regular milk. Fortunately, the staff corrected the mistake right away. The food was absolutely delicious! I had the red chilaquiles--the salsa was mouth-watering. My boyfriend ordered the tri-tip tacos and really enjoyed them as well. Overall, we had a wonderful visit and would definitely recommend this place! read more

This place has hands down amazing food. Their service is unparalleled, their employees are a joy to be around. The decorations, atmosphere, and all over vibe is so upbeat to be around. We ordered a lavender mocha and turmeric latte, and both were exceptional. These trendy drinks often miss the mark, but these were perfect and you could taste each individual element. Oh, this is also a dog friendly place, so bring the pups. We absolutely LOVED this little spot, and in fact, we are planning to go again before heading home! read more

I want to like this place so bad, but I have a bad experience every time I go. :( I asked for an iced latte...they brought out a hot...no big deal...I told them I ordered an iced....they took my hot latte and poured it over ice! The ice melted in no time and I had a watered down latte that wasn't even worth drinking. Plus, all the food that I've ordered there has been mediocre at best. :-/ On the bright side, the place is super cute. I live in the Palms Springs area so I believe this gives me some credibility about reviewing restraunts. I have been to Cafe Topes several times with my wife and each time is more amazing than the last. I have read the reviews on here and some really irritate me. The place has been open less than 3 mos. so give them a break. If you have a gripe, let Joe and Jacquie know as I know they will make it right with you. Absolutely loved this place! The food was delicious, fresh, and beautifully prepared. The service was impressively fast without sacrificing friendliness, which made the whole experience even better. Yes that's right. If you are Hispanic, black or any other race rather than white then you're advised not to even think about entering this place. Only the kitchen people are Hispanic. Front of the house are all white. Discrimination to the maximum. The owners are racist and if you step foot into this cafe you will be looked down and throw a lot of unwelcome vibes at you like you absolutely don't deserve to be treated with the same dignity and respect.
