This sweet cafe was the highlight of our trip to La Jolla! The man behind the counter was always so friendly and welcoming to us, it was such a pleasant atmosphere. The iced chai and mocha were both delicious and the panini were EXCELLENT. I had the chickenini on sourdough and it was so yummy. I woke up craving it every day we were there! My boyfriend tried one of their bagel sandwiches and absolutely loved it as well. Highly recommend this local business!!!!

Small cafe on the corner with a surfer vibe on the inside. The food was pretty good, definitely would return again. Got a burrito and sandwich. Staff looked serious but was surprisingly very helpful and nice.

Food: 5/5 Coffee: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 4/5 If I hadn't noticed this spot along my running route the past few runs, I never would've realized it was here. I'm really glad I finally stopped in. Cafe Vahik definitely feels more food-forward. They have a great selection of bagels, paninis, and salads. While they do serve coffee, lattes, and smoothies, tasty food and genuinely warm, local service seem to be where they really shine. From my single visit, it was very clear the owner is closely involved and incredibly personable with customers. In the 20-30 minutes I was there, several regulars came in and were greeted by name, with parts of their usual orders remembered. The food prep area is fully visible from the checkout counter, and I could see my food being made with care, which I really appreciated. For food, I ordered: Sunrise Turkey Panini: 5/5 Delicious. Perfectly pressed, warm, cozy, and with a great balance of flavors. If this sandwich is any indication of the rest of the menu, I'm genuinely impressed and excited to try more. For drinks, I ordered: Iced Latte: 4/5 When ordering, it wasn't totally clear whether they offered flavor syrups. In hindsight, I wish I had asked, because the latte itself was decent but left a little to be desired on its own. I think adding any sort of flavor would have elevated it easily. ATMOSPHERE: 4/5 The interior is a bit dated, but it's cozy and fits the quaint, hidden-local-gem vibe of the place. There are also a few outdoor patio seats, which is a nice bonus. My only very minor complaint was around the payment process. I ordered first, then received my latte, then my food, and then paid before eating but after receiving everything. The casual flow definitely matches the neighborhood feel, but I was a bit unsure of when I was supposed to pay and ended up standing around awkwardly for a moment. This could very well have been a one-off experience. If you're in this corner of Bird Rock and want a quick, delicious bite along with friendly conversation and a true neighborhood vibe, Cafe Vahik is absolutely worth checking out.

The cafe be but unassuming from the outside though the steady flow of customers are a sign of a good tings! Its a small cafe located near the Windansea Beach. They serve up some killer California-style bagel sandwiches which come loaded with fresh ingredients. They have the classic coffee beverage which is served simple and to the point; nothing fancy. Husband and wife duo are usually manning the front. Their ability to expertly multi-task and handle a heavy flow of orders is a real skill and art form. They even somehow take phone orders among the throng of in-person orders. I like getting "The Farmer" bagel sandwich with egg, goat, cheese, and spinach and eating it at a bench at Windansea Beach, watching the surfers eat salt. A well loved business with many a regular saying "hello" to the owners. To call it a "hidden gem" isn't exactly accurate since they are often so busy, but a "gem" they are for sure!

This is a long overdue updated review. My husband and I regularly pick up from Vahik and have enjoyed everything over the last decade! Our favorites include the yellowtail sandwich, playa Del Norte salad, chickanini, lox bagel, and ceviche. The salad is the only way I can get my husband to eat some greens! The ceviche has a kick to it and the fish is very fresh; it is only available on Thursdays and does run out. We also really love their hot drinks. The chai latte is one of my favorites and my husband always gets a caramel macchiato. Whenever my in-laws visit, they have to go to Vahik's at least once to get their coffee. They even have their own Cafe Moto blend. Vahik is definitely a local favorite. There are many regulars and he somehow remembers everyone's orders. Vahik knows my husband by voice whenever he calls ahead and doesn't even ask for his name for the order. You can call ahead to order; just note that you should provide the details fairly quickly as it can get busy. There are tables inside and a few outside as well. Order first and he'll call you when your food is ready and then you pay. ApplePay is accepted. I definitely recommend Cafe Vahik for great food and drinks. Get it to go and walk down to the beach!

Local casual breakfast and lunch spot near wind and sea beach in La Jolla. Super friendly owner and very fast service. I went for both breakfast and lunch at the advice of my Airbnb hosts. The breakfast burrito is huge. And if it's ceviche day, make sure you go early for lunch and get some!

Hidden La Jolla gem with killer bagel sandwiches. Windansea and American bagel sandwiches are legit delicious. Super friendly service and awesome iced lattes seal the deal. Quick, tasty breakfast spot that just gets it right.

This spot is close to the Windansea Beach. It's a small cafe with indoor and patio seating. Service was quick. I ordered the Acai Smoothie and enjoyed it. My friends also enjoyed their coffee and lattes.

Fabulous little, small business close to our Hotel! First off the owner himself is here before the sun everyday! A great person, he is kind and takes pride in his business! The coffee is Smashing it! The Breakfast sandwiches are Fantastic! His coffee blend is so bold and yet smooth! His prices are more than fair! Personally I would rather support a quality small business than a mediocre major chain any day!

Excellent breakfast sandwiches and fast, consistent and friendly service. The iced cafe au lait is what I'd choose over Starbucks any day. We love to grab an egg bagel sandwich and sit by the water.

Cutest bakery/brunch spot ever!! We came straight from Pilates craving coffee and a sweet treat,…read moreand this place definitely DELIVERED. Everything in the pastry case looked so good it was genuinely hard to choose. All the pastries were super well balanced flavor-wise, and the pastry itself was buttery, flaky, and perfectly baked. The croissant especially was sooo buttery and crisp on the outside while soft inside with the perfect amount of filling. The coffee was also rich, creamy, and delicious, and everything came out surprisingly fast even though it was pretty busy. Not a ton of seating inside and it definitely gets PACKED on weekends, but we managed to snag a little table on the back patio which made it such a cute spot to sit and catch up. Overall such a perfect weekend brunch/coffee date spot. Will definitely be back to try more pastries because I was eyeing basically everything behind the counter.

However, the food here was painfully mediocre. The panino alle verde was listed on the menu as a tomato and eggplant sandwich with mozzarella and basil. However, it was actually a tomato paste (no actual pieces of tomato found) with small pieces of eggplant sprinkled on top sandwich with a big, cold clump of mozzarella. It was okay taste-wise but charging $15 for such a simple and lackluster sandwich (that one could easily make at home) is insane to me even for San Diego pricing. The vanilla crossiant was so soggy that even the ends were soggy. There was no crunch, no crumbly flakes, just a sad, dense pastry with custard in the middle. The only saving grace of this croissant was the vanilla custard which was creamy, not too sweet, and had a nice vanilla flavor (you could see the vanilla bean specks). However, the custard did not make this croissant worth eating and the only part of the croissant I ate was the custard filling. While I was eating my food, I was surprised at how crowded this place was considering I found the food to be very mediocre. There was a constant line and everyone seemed to be ordering the croissants. I'm not sure if these people were just tourists or regulars whose only reference for baked goods and sandwiches were subway or 7-eleven, but I know that there are tons of better bakeries in San Diego. Even freaking Costco has way better pastries and sandwiches than this place and will not charge you $25 for one small sandwich and one soggy croissant. Note: I found out about this place because I asked A.I. to find "hidden gems" in San Diego. This is what I get for trusting A.I.

Next time I come I want to try the coffee, because it looks to be their forte. Love the Colombian trip wall con una mascota preciosa. Also got a gluten free muffin, looked rough on the outside, but absolutely delish once unwrapped. Flavor was blueberry, and it was filled with them. The muffin was moist and not grainy like some gluten free ones can be. Not overly sweet, but still with plenty of berry deliciousness. It's cozy and unique that makes it the perfect study spot! There's plenty of seating, and it's conveniently located near a bus stop, which makes it easy to get to. I'm not totally sure about outlet availability, but it's still a great place to settle in and get some work done. To note, the coffee itself is just okay, and unfortunately the almond croissant wasn't very good when I tried it. That said, the atmosphere is really what makes this place worth visiting. The staff is also pretty nice and welcoming. Overall, come for the great study spot more than the food or coffee.

It was a nice ambiance to sit and enjoy your juice and coffee. We ordered quite a bit of items as we were waiting for another member of our party to meet us here. The bathroom is beautifully and nicely decorated but they are super strict about using the bathroom even if you are a customer as they had a bathroom (there is a key you have to ask for) "wanted bandit sign"apparently for vandalizing it....which I understand however When another member of our party came, we went inside and the line was so long we decided to use the bathroom before ordering more, we were in there less than 5 minutes and the owner/manager knocked and knocked, I came out and apologized and asked if she knocked. She did apologize but said other people are waiting. I ordered another juice and was going to order sandwiches and acai bowls but felt like we probably were at cafe more than an hour and out stayed our stay. I understand as a business you have to be strict about the bathroom and that is their policy however if it is a juice/coffee place your customers are bound to use the restroom several times especially if they are continuing to order. Unfortunately, It did turn me away to try the food which I actually was looking forward to as they did offer organic croissant sandwiches. We decided to just choose another place to order food. I'll have to think about returning as we are always in La Jolla for yoga.
