When traveling, I like to go to a place that has "fresh meat and veggies". This isn't a food category on Yelp, so it's not always easy. Sometimes the broad, catch-all category of "American New" will yield what I'm looking for. Sometimes it won't. Café Wild was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Lots of fresh stuff on the menu. Lots of veggies. Extensive brunch options. Additionally, it has a great location. It's close to the beach and close to the airport. A great place to fill your belly so you don't have to do so in crowded LAX. I got an Asada Salad, because: Southern California. It was fresh, it was perfectly cooked (you know the meat is good when they ask you how you want your steak cooked...for a SALAD), it was delicious. It was also beautiful. Bright colors. I photographed it like I was working with hired talent. I'd love to go back for brunch as it seems like that's their specialty. Next time. On a hot summer day the wait was excruciating. We were seated quickly but didn't eat for a long while. Luckily the food was quite scrumptious. The country scramble tasted delicious but would have been better with some country potatoes. I got some sourdough toast but it wasn't quite toasty. My lady went with the vegan hash and she was extremely happy. Packed with flavor her favorite part was the avocado basil purée. Service was slow but pleasant, like all good things it takes time. First and last time coming to this place. Sad since we're local residents. I am not a person to complain on Yelp often about my experiences but I'll gladly take the time for this one considering my sub-par experience and a sour Saturday morning. First, parking is a disaster. It took me 25 minutes to find somewhere to park. I was solo with my toddler so walking 5 or so blocks and being late for a 10am brunch wasn't a good start... but other than offering a valet service, not much the restaurant can do there. I ordered the watermelon salad. The menu says watermelon arugula with spinach. My salad came out with only spinach which I'm not a huge fan of.. I asked the server and he basically argued with me that "No that's what you ordered". So I had to look up the menu and show him "Look it says arugula - where's the arugula on this plate?". After an unnecessary back and forth, I asked him to just bring me some arugula and call it a day.. I shouldn't have to argue with the staff of what's on their menu that I purchased. Secondly, my son only ate a few bites of his pancakes and eggs breakfast and we intended to take the rest with us to go if the server ever came by to check in on us. I also still had most breakfast potatoes waiting for a to go box. We saw a friend sit down next to us and while my son was still sitting at the table and me an arms length away, the owner of the cafe comes and picks up all of our food without asking us anything and throws it away. I went in and asked the same server what happened and he once again argued with me saying "Look, we're really busy here and we're turning a lot of tables". We're really busy so you're going to have to wait for the food again. Well, what do you want me to do? I paid $50 for breakfast and I'm pretty sure that I'm owed what I paid for since you we're so busy focusing on turning tables that you didn't have the time to actually check on your customers. I came here because of the good reviews. when I arrived a member of staff said that there has been a change in ownership and menu items had changed, so I couldn't get the full English breakfast I went there specifically to have. After choosing breakfast at the checkout (no, they don't come and take your order) we sat down and our drinks came to us in take-out cups. I had ordered for 3 of us - 1 breakfast of French toast, and two of eggs, potatoes and toast. $77.76 including the cheapest tip of $10. They don't take cash. The bread wasn't toasted but grilled in what tasted like rancid fat, rendering it inedible. I should have realized something was wrong when the other cafes nearby all had people waiting for tables but this place was almost empty. The staff are very nice, hard-working folks, but the owner is penny-pinching and charging exorbitant money from people they assume are rich. I won't come here again. read more

Since they now have disposable plates and such bc of COVID, this is the first time I got a portable maple syrup vs in their little metal condiment container..finding that instead of real maple syrup, they have a cheap high GI replacement. This place has a great vibe so that price has always been worth it, but $16+ for two pancakes and it see their "maple" syrup is corn syrup is really disappointing and tbh gross. I had the BEACH CRUISER BURRITO (Eggs, Bacon, Chicken Sausage and Mozzarella Cheese, all wrapped up in a warm flour tortilla. Choice of Salsa Roja or Salsa Verde. Served with Potatoes O'Brien) but switched out the flour tortilla for spinach. It still felt somewhat healthy despite being a breakfast burrito. Unlike other burritos, it wasn't greasy or too cheesy, but just right. The potatoes were to die for. I had one when they brought my plate out and proceeded to demolish pretty much all of them. We also shared an order of the pancakes for the table, which I highly recommend doing as it made for the prefect little dessert, but it would have been a shame to get just the pancakes and not try one of their other wonderful breakfast options. I met a friend here after a long walk with our dogs. The restaurant is dog friendly on the outside and will bring water for your dog. Very cool. The staff was friendly and the location is excellent; just 1/2 mile from Bruce's Beach. Why the 2 stars? 1. For 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, coffee and croissant for later, (plus tip which you pay before any service is rendered) cost close to $30. $30 for breakfast is insane. 2. The bacon was actually SPOILED. I took 1 bite, then 2 to make sure. Yap. spoiled. But my friend's dog liked it, so she had the expensive bacon. 3. They forgot to bring my croissant. I remembered at the last minute and had to go to the counter and ask for it. No apologies for them forgetting. Came her for brunch on a Sunday with my husband and doggie. It wast too busy inside but the tables outside were occupied. Considering they did not have very many tables outside we were able to get seated within 5/10 minutes. Upon being seated we were asked for our drink order, I tried to order a bloody Mary they unfortunately told me they don't serve alcoholic beverages outside, which was sad but I ended up ordering coffee instead. After placing our order, it took about 40 minutes for our food to finally come out, which was longer than expected. It would have been nice if the server gave us more of a heads up half way through our wait time. I ordered the Huevo Ranchos, which was plated beautifully and looked great, but I think in my head I was expecting more of a green chili type sauce instead of the salsa. Probably should have read the description more carefully. Overall the dish was good, my only concern was that none of my items on my plate were really that hot, my potatoes were barely warm and same for the "huevos rancheros" part of my dish. I also ordered a buttermilk pancake which I thought was super delicious, but again was probably the only hot item we were given. Ate here for brunch & it was delicious. My friend is vegetarian & so we decided to order two vegetarian plates. One was the cinnamon French toast & another one was their vegetarian hash. The eggs Benedict and other dishes my friends ordered looked pretty standard. All in all, the food was... okay. Pretty expensive for what we got, actually. I had a cup of coffee, and between two breakfast dishes and an Arnold Palmer, we were looking at $40+. All things considered, not quite worth the price. The person manning the front was very kind to hold a table out front for us as we waited for our friends, and our server was absolutely lovely, so in terms of the service here, I was very pleased. Location! Location! Location! This place is in a really great location. On a main street which takes you through Manhattan Beach with shops, restaurants & sites! In fact, you can walk straight down the hill from the cafe about 2 blocks & end up right on the sand at the ocean :) Parking isn't too bad either with a reasonable metered public lot around the corner. The scramble with goat cheese, chicken with waffle, veggie omelette & egg sandwich were all winners at our table! The chocolate cake slice they brought out in honor of my birthday was so rich!!! Turns out it was flourless! There was actual chunks of bacon on top of the cake & hidden under the whipped cream - Im vegetarian LMBO, but since it was a nice gesture & my bday I figured it wouldn't kill me and I indulged.
