Delicious coffee! Everything I've tried has been great. But, the toffee nut syrup in particular is a perfect addition to their iced lattes.

What a great little cafe in this area! It's very popular, lots of people around, but makes sense! I don't know of other places in this area that can offer what Cafein does: a cute and bright atmosphere, great little bites, and a solid selection of drinks. The sandwiches are a bit pricey but nothing unexpectedly high, and the quality is pretty good. Their rose lattes are pretty but personally I don't think it's anything special in flavor -- usually a fan of chai lattes and they do it well here. I come here very often to fulfill my caffeine addiction (lol). I personally LOVE the rose latte!! I usually get it hot but I tried iced once and that was delicious too! I also love the decor inside the cafe and the vibe is very casual and hip. They used to have the waffles that I REALLY liked but they recently took it out of the menu :( Either way, their desserts are all still very delicious and I'd recommend everyone to try the rose latte!! Love this place! Used to come here when it was called Coffeesmith. Although some of their food menu changed, the new additions are really good too! I just had a "The Sausage on Croissant" and it's so good with the onions and avocado on it. I used to always get the white mocha, but after trying my friend's Rose Latte once I've since changed to that as my drink. Just a warning, this place gets really busy and the noise level is a bit high if you expect a quiet coffee shop. read more

The desert here is all good and I especially like the avocado toast here for breakfast/brunch! Found this gem by looking up brunch places on Yelp today. I saw that they sold my favorite sandwich: prosciutto in a baguette! It was delicious and just what I was expecting. The portion is great for 8 bucks! My boyfriend got a smoked salmon baguette and he said it tasted like sushi because of the wasabi. I also ordered an iced rose latte and green tea cheesecake as well. The rose latte tasted good, but you can't taste the rose aspect as much. That was alright since I still enjoyed it as is. They definitely don't skimp you on the matcha for the cheesecake. Definitely worth it for the size of the cake! As for the overall business, this place was pretty lit around lunch time and I could see why! Ordered the salmon ball avocado salad: it came in a rounded bowl that kept tipping over every time I put my fork in. Not the best bowl to be served salad, could've fallen over on me. Tucked in a non-descript shopping center is Northern Virginia's best Coffee shop. Sure there are others, they make lattes, use expensive machines and are also 100% better than any Starbucks, but they don't have baristas, they have people that make a cup of "coffee" they don't come close to the level of passion the baristas at Cafein (kaf-een). We stopped by for coffee on Tuesday morning and had the Espressoda & Cream Coffee. The bf loves the Cream Coffee here which is essentially Whipped Cream poured over Cold Brew Coffee. Only available till the end of this month as they'll be introducing the Fall menu in October. The Espressoda was recommended to me by a fellow Yelper (thanks, John!) and is absolutely delish! Espressoda. GET IT! :D Seriously, just walk up to the counter and order the most unique drink in the house, the Espressoda. I've never had anything like it, anywhere else, and I am just over the moon for this fun and fizzy drink. It consists of their homemade syrup paired with club soda on ice then finished off with a pour over of espresso that floats on top until you insert the straw to mix it together. I'm already smiling to myself in anticipation just writing about how amazing this drink is and it's the reason I keep going back over and over and over again. :P They also have lots of other coffee drinks made using Stumptown Coffee, teas, light pastries, and even sandwiches. My favorite sandwich is the Salmon Baguette, wasabi spread, smoked salmon, layered with tomato, red onions, and freshly cut avocado. Free Wi-Fi and a surplus of seating is available for anyone that wants to enjoy a beverage or tasty treat while getting some work done on your laptop or iPad. As a lover of coffee, I was on the verge of tears when I had learned Coffeesmith was closing and being bought by new owners. I thought they were going to tear my favorite coffee shop apart and make it into something more "mainstream", if you will. Boy was I wrong! Not only did the new owners keep the old drink and food menu (still serving Stumptown!), but they have included additional, unique creations that will have you coming back for more. Such as the honey cinnamon latte, rose latte, and fruite-ades (a fruit puree + club soda based drink). On top of that, they now offer honey bread, a popular dessert staple in the West Coast. On my recent visit, I came twice in one day. Yes TWICE. In the morning I ordered an iced honey cinnamon latte-- delicious! Exactly what it sounds like. No frills, very pure and natural flavors. In the evening I attempted to order the rose latte, but they sadly were out of rose water. I ended up going with the grapefruit-ade which was quite refreshing and perfectly balanced. I also had the dulce de leche cheesecake- tasty and not overly sweet, but nothing too special. Their belgian waffle though-- made from scratch to perfection. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Additionally, the new decor gives the place a more trendy vibe. The new owners are extremely friendly, accommodating, and informative. I've been reading so many yelp reviews about this place and their rose latte. I didn't see it on the menu board but I ordered it anyway. It was made quickly. The small was $4.50. The flower and design were impressive. The thickness of the frothed milk was incredible. So thick and creamy. I asked for my drink to-go. I get why they didn't put a lid on - for presentation reasons, but they didn't point out where I could find a lid. The decor was fun. Kind of industrial. They have no nutritional information available so it's hard to count calories. The staff is friendly and skilled. Lots of parking. I can't figure out why they still have a Christmas tree up in May. Coffeesmith is back new and improved as Cafein! Still warm and welcoming, but with a trendy and modern touch! This is the rebranding that Coffeesmith needed to bump my original rating from 4 stars to 5! Overall, there isn't a huge change, but the update of the menu and the redecoration of the interior gives it that extra something that was missing before. Cafein (apparently could be pronounced as CAFE-in or caffeine) is a nice and welcoming place to catch up with friends or to get some work done. They provide a variety of drinks from lattes to "fruit ades" (carbonated fruity drinks) to smoothies. The honey cinnamon latte is my favorite drink so far - it's creamy and delicious and the cinnamon isn't overpowering. The avocado citrus is another unique drink that was added onto the menu. It's definitely refreshing and interesting, but I'm not sure how I feel about it. The rose latte is also pretty good if you're a fan of the rose flavor. I've also tried some of the breakfast sandwiches, and they're pretty solid! Lastly, one of my favorite things about coming here is the service. Everyone is friendly and helpful, and I've always had a great experience every time I've come so far because of them. If you live in the area and love coffee shops as much as I do, be sure to give Cafein a try! read more

I'm particularly picky about my coffee...aka a royal coffee snob. So with that being said I give Cafein five stars most enthusiastically. They deliver a consistent cup of coffee with depth and flavor. I can tell the main Barista takes great care in his work and it shows with every cup he turns out. The latte's I get are thick, frothy and fabulous. They also have a fresh and delicious breakfast menu that isn't over priced. The panini's are spot on and the desserts and pastries are incredible. They sell cookies the size of your head for $2. Starbucks will sell you a stale cake pop for more than that! The very clean and sleek environment provides outlets for charging and places to sit and relax. The decor is tasteful and quarky with the beautiful glass cold brewing set up and the derby hat light fixers. Everything is well thought-out, executed and maintained. Just a hint of sweetness with a very smooth coffee and milk. They suggested that you get it iced - so we did. I ordered the regular latte for myself and it was just as good as I'd expected it to be. Smooth all around, perfectly-made coffee (not too bitter/mild). The redesign of the place is gorgeous. dang it! it hurts my heart to give this place a three,...because I love what its trying to do! BUT......here's why: 1. Its a cafe, but has a very limited amount of baked goods ( to be exact, there were 4 when i was there yesterday morning). Literally four things: 2 kinds of whoopie pies, a lemon bar, and blueberry coffee cake. I really think they need to expand their offerings a bit more. I love coffee but the best part of it is all the things you can have with your coffee (cookies, biscuits, pastries, cakes, pies, etc). 2. Their food offering. If you see how beautiful and modern, and the attention to detail they show with decor, their coffees and teas, and even presentation, you expect the few breakfast sandwiches they offer to have that too, right? Man, ...was i disappointed. I was started pretty excited because they had a turkey bacon breakfast sandwich (a non-pork option, wohoo!). Much to my dismay,...it was pretty much Food Lion white bread, food lion American cheese product, and the low end bright pink turkey bacon you get in the cheap aisle at the grocery store. Why serve such glorious coffee with such an overpriced and WEAK sandwich? Whip up a gouda and free range egg sandwich with black pepper turkey bacon on a fancy cut of bread? Charge me $8 for that to go with my awesome coffee, and this is a 5 star cafe! I will be back and hope they will read my comments and update. They could be such a great go to spot if they made a few more and better sandwichs and expanded their pastry and baked goods offerings. So, so happy to find Stumptown (somewhat) locally. Cafein has drip coffee, pour-overs and traditional cold brew, plus Kyoto-style cold brew. They also carry Stumptown's bottled cold brew and cartons of their coffee with milk (chocolate and regular), so I can stock up and take a few home with me! There's also a selection of savory sandwiches, cakes and pastries. The baristas are really friendly and knowledgeable, and they clearly take pride in their coffee. There's a good amount of seating and the internet is fast, so it's a good place to work. The decor is clean and modern, and on a Saturday afternoon, it was busy but not too crowded. And since it's in a shopping center, there is tons of parking. I do wish the a/c was on instead of the fans, though. read more

Recommended by family member, heard it was new. Stopped by for a quick coffee. Inside looks very new, clean, and nice atmosphere. Very cute modern coffee/cafe shop. Plenty of seating. They offer all kinds of coffee, a small tea menu, small pastries, and a couple of sandwiches. I didn't want to try to sandwiches because a friend said she had gotten very sick after having the smoked salmon sandwich. She recommended and showed us a very pretty photo of an Iced Rose Latte she had ordered on her visit. The Iced Lattes seemed to be nicely decorated with a little flower also. So we ordered an Iced Rose Latte and a Blue Lemonade. They said they ran out of Lemons (?) so we ended up getting two Rose Lattes. They lattes unfortunately didn't seem to come with a cute little flower *sad face* but it was good. This place is right next to the parents house, so I definitely would want to return another time to try the hot lattes this coming fall/winter on our next trip home. While they do not have a large menu, this is a good thing because it allows them to focus on quality and freshness. Also, as a tip, Cafein is a great place to study, write a paper, or work. I'm very picky about my coffee & Starbucks just doesn't do it for me anymore. So when I saw this place had 4 1/2 stars on Yelp I had to check it out, and I wasn't disappointed! I went with the Rose Latte since it looked pretty popular & honestly it's AMAZING. It was the perfect temperature right when I got it so I immediately took a sip and was very pleasantly surprised - It's super smooth, not too sweet, no bitter aftertaste, & had an amazing light floral flavor (which does sound strange but trust me, it's veryyy good). I also got the Smoked Salmon Bagel ($6) which was delicious & for $6, they put a lot of salmon on it! :) The store is located in sort of an isolated spot in the Sully Shopping Center, where the Sears used to be. It's too bad their location probably doesn't see much foot traffic, because this is the only coffee I want from now on! And in my opinion they have very reasonable prices for the quality of their products. I ordered the hot rose latte and mom got the honey cinnamon latte. Rose latte made with some rose water was sweet, delicious and pretty! The honey cinnamon latte was also pretty good. Behind the counter, the owners are young, Korean guys who were friendly. The place itself is nice, clean and trendy. I have found my coffee spot!
