I'm not a huge fan of coffee... but Caffe Umbria also has the best gelato I have ever had. I think it's actually made some place downtown and brought in, but it is delicious every single time. My favorite is the rice gelato. Creamy, rich, yet somehow surprisingly light. It's a cute location, nestled with art galleries and historic buildings on a brick path where you won't be disturbed by cars. During the day time, this area of pioneer square is great! Mostly business people or college kids looking for a great place for some coffee and studying. read more

It all starts with the coffee and Caffe Umbria has some of the best coffee in Seattle. I love the Bizzarri Blend! It's a very beautiful facility, with all the brick and glass. It's very reminiscent of the snack bars you find throughout Italy, except none of them are this spacious. I've found the service to be good and informative. read more

I'm not a coffee snob, but just like wine, I know the difference between good and bad. Cafe Umbria has good coffee. They also have a nice little assortment of snacks and gelatto. Try the Marion Berry Croissant! Grab a tall Americano and stroll back to work. The best thing about this place is that they accept debit cards. In this day and age I hate the fact that some places are cash only, but to get back on tangent...Umbria has a nice interior with dark wood tables and chairs and nice tiled walls that make you think of sunny days in Italy. And if you are curious my tall americano costs me $1.75 and so much better than Starbucks or Tully's. read more

This is a usual coffee shop. Nothing special. I personally think their coffee is overrated... It was a bit more acidic than we like. The barista was very kind and the bonus piece of chocolate on the side was nice. read more

I come back to this place every time I am in Seattle. its a great feeling inside (very welcoming) and the staff is polite. Our drink order had a little mix up and they gave me a "next one is on us" card for our inconvenience which wasn't necessary but much appreciated. Will be back again next trip! read more

My absolute favorite place for coffee in Pioneer Square...maybe even all of Seattle. The mochas are not too sweet and the drip is nice and strong. They get their pastries from Le Panier (yay, macaroons!!!) and have a nice selection of light lunches. It also feels a bit more civilized than your average coffee shop. I'm still a big fan, but parking has gotten so expensive and the ticketing so aggressive in Pioneer Square that I can't just stop in for a quick coffee between stops anymore. So the only time it makes sense to go there is if I happen to be in the neighborhood for something else or I'm without a car. A rare event. So sad and so true all over Seattle these days. read more

Best coffee/espresso in Seattle (and by association, any place that brews their beans!) They also make an excellent decaf americano. Their decaf Mezzanotte blend is some of the best that I've ever tasted. Plus, you get this small square of chocolate with your drink.... and a cool-looking spoon, too. Nice exposed brick inside.... a view of the tall trees of Occidental Park outside. Their panini and salads are also excellent (not to mention the pastries from Le Panier)! It can get pretty loud inside when they're busy (the TV noise doesn't help, either!), but, even so, I find myself quite content whenever I go here. read more

Lovely place to sit and have a quick espresso and pastry. Very close to a real Italian cafe. The espresso is spot on! I completely and thoroughly enjoyed my doppio which is something I don't normally say. I just got back from Italy a couple of weeks ago where I was drinking espresso 3-4 times a day and this place brings me straight back to the coffee motherland. Highly recommend! read more

3.5 Came here pre-photoshoot at Ebbets Field Flannels, so it helps that it was only a stones throw away. Their lattes are solid, the morning rush is a little frantic, and other than the swarm of flies in the seating area, the unobstructed view of Pioneer Square was unbeatable. read more

Caffe Umbria has, without a doubt, the best coffee in Seattle. It's usually pretty busy, but the service is fast and friendly. The reason I give it 4 out of 5 stars is that they do not offer free WIFI. In this day and age, WIFI in coffee shops is expected. I suppose you could argue that this is similar to cafes in Italy (or most of Europe for that matter) where WIFI isn't free... but this is Seattle in the year 2012! I feel like I am back in Italy whenever I step through the door of this charming Pioneer Square cafe. The glass case of pastries tempts you when you walk in and the smell of hand pulled, and artfully served coffee makes me glad to make the short trip out of our way to get our weekend coffee there. Caffe Umbria makes amazing lattes. They are rich and creamy with none of the bitter, acrid aftertaste that comes with some of the lattes I've had at more corporate coffee shops. The cafe itself is cute and sunny. It's fun to sit in front of the windows and watch people pass by. The location is a little further down Pioneer Square towards the stadiums, and it's not as busy and touristy as coffee shops closer to the Underground Tour, etc. The area has a quieter feel to it, although the cafe itself is usually bustling around lunchtime. If you're up for something a bit fatty but very delicious, try the cinnamon bread! It's dense and buttery. Also, they serve individual packets of Freezer Jam, which is fantastic. read more

I am sad that my rating is so low, but I had a horrible time. I was excited to visit this cute little coffee shop and my boyfriend said he enjoyed the coffee but had not been there in a while. First, We had to wait forever just to order. and the cashier passed us off to another register. 2nd, they messed up on my order twice! in one trip. The boy that took our coffee order must not have been listening because he got my order all wrong. My bf got a coffee with vanilla and whole milk while I ordered a hazelnut latte with non fat milk. (I love lattes but am lactose-intolerant, so I have to ask for low fat milk!) But instead I was made a regular latte with whole milk. When I asked for hazelnut, he added it and then I told him I needed a new spoon because he assumed mine was someone's dirty spoon left on the counter. I think it was made with whole milk because I had a stomach ache for the rest of the afternoon. I was disappointed, and no one seemed to be very helpful or friendly. read more

I actually don't hang around too many cafe's in the city, but this one is really nice. The atmosphere is very inviting, spacious, and beautiful. There is a nice assortment of coffees and teas to choose from, not to mention the many gelato flavors to choose from in the display case. It's a great place to chat over a drink and a pastry, admire the decor, and do some people-watching (it's right on a semi-busy corner). Definitely grab your drink, claim an outside table, relax, and take in Seattle on a nice day. I'll be back there. read more

The charm of the staff here overcame what would have been an annoyance, the fact that their registers and card readers were not working. There was confusion and chaos, yes, but all of it delivered with such european flair that I couldn't help but be amused. Excellent! Went here on a weekend and it was very quiet... but I swear I had the best cappuccino ever here... PERFECTLY done... and absolutely beautiful foam and coffee art. Classy joint, just a step above your average cafe. They have gelato, sandwiches and salads, pastries. I love that they give you a tiny spoon for putting sugar in your coffee. There's literally a coffee shop on every block in downtown Seattle, whether it's Starbucks, Tully's, Seattle's Best, or Cherry St. However, Cafe Umbria outshines them all. You can taste the rich quality in their espresso and the biscottis are melt in your mouth delish. The service is also top notch because the baristas are chill and easy to talk to. I think the only down side that I woud say about this place is that there's no outlets or wifii if you want to come here to get work done on your laptop while enjoying a cup of latte. However, it's a good place to meet and catch up with friends. read more

Stopped in here on a coffee tour, last stop. We drank a Con Panna espresso that was the pièce de résistance of the tour. It was short and went down quickly, but this was a great coffee experience. Italian place with a great history. Local roast. read more

Caffe Umbria -- I dont know where to start... If dont have have the time or money to visit a cafe in Rome, visit Umbria instead. You'll feel like you're in Rome. The quality of coffee is outstanding, the baristas are wonderful, the snacks are delicious and there is soccer on TV (on mute) and there's gelato! Love this place! A true Seattle gem. read more

Some crazy chocolaty heavy hot chocolate. Not your typical viscosity...way think. Kind of like a milk shake...but hot. Weird...but good!

The gelato was pretty delish, the guy taking orders could've been more friendly...but oh well. It was ina great spot, perfect for people watching before the Mariners game :) read more
