Interior decorating is cool but that's about it. Poor customer service. I have come twice now and both time left disappointed. In my first experience I ordered a large coffee and asked for just a little room and it came back half full. Literally at the halfway mark. The second time the cashier was extremely short with me. Atmosphere is European and located in one of my favorite areas of Seattle. The macaroons were perfection. The staff was very friendly.

Authentic Italian coffee is hard to find in Seattle. Cafe Umbria provides that and more. Their espresso is perfectly roasted - and is available by the cup and the bean. Came here on a pilgrimage all the way from Chicago, having had their coffee in other places before, and Caffè Umbria did not disappoint. Two perfect cappuccinos and a heavenly serving of salted caramel gelato enjoyed in the afternoon sun on a gorgeous day. Life doesn't get any better. read more

Great coffee, very cool design and I LOVE the Italian coffee mugs and plates. Amazing quiche and great Italian chocolates. with so many the to choose from how do you decide? umbria to me is more of a cappuccino, espresso, latte kind of spot. they have drips and pour overs and they even have a cold brew tower but it could just be for show. regardless it's very good place if you like a frothy cup. read more

The gold standard for artisanal espresso in Seattle. My ideal latte is creamy in texture, golden in flavor, complex in nature and this place delivers. Beautiful Italian-style bar, gelato and baked treats are available but I come here for the coffee and outstanding chocolates from Il Fiori. Staff are friendly and clearly experts in the art of pouring. The background music here is pleasing. Park out front for free in the mornings until noon. read more

I was near Union Station and I wanted a little snack to hold me over so I thought gelato sounded great. The decor was modern and the lines were not too long. I picked a flavor that sounded good and that I don't see very often: orange cream. It had the creamy taste for sure with a presence of orange. What really surprised me was the price! Yeah, I did not get a ton of gelato but then you gelato is not something you eat in too large quantities. I found this place from yelp but it turned out to be a unpleasant experience. Ordered two coffees with ice. Got one iced and one hot, and the barista insisted I SAID so. While I politely requested whether he could just offer me some ice, he turned rude very soon and did not provide any further help. Too bad. The coffee tastes far lower than my expectation. Update: I really appreciate that the business owner reached out to me to make things right after reading my review. I have raised my star rating to 3 stars to reflect this. I been here many times throughout the years with my parents, and the coffee itself is wonderful. So are the pastries. The employees are sometimes a bit rude, but I've never minded since the drinks/food are so good, and because who cares? Today, however, I was moved to write a review because of the inexplicable rudeness of the main barista. My mom is partially deaf, and when she asked the barista a couple questions about the drink she was ordering, she was met with sass, exasperation, and downright mean-spiritedness from this woman. I don't think I've ever written a negative review before, but this was incredible. My dad and I were stunned. At the end of the encounter, my mom didn't hear the barista ask her to sign her name, so the barista snapped with increasing volume, "ma'am! Ma'am!" until my dad finally signed on behalf of my mom to calm the barista down. Meanwhile, she (the barista) had taken to rolling her eyes at the guy standing in line behind my mom... None of us could believe it, and the encounter was really disheartening. read more

I also just found out that they sell the beans at Ballard Market, but running out of coffee is still a fun excuse to go downtown. :) It's cheaper than getting beans at Starbucks and the coffee is much much better. Very Best coffee I've ever tasted. The roaster Caffe Umbri makes the best coffee I've ever tasted. I had it in different coffee shops, I ordered some and made it at home. Just amazing coffee and the last time I checked, they only had about 5 or 6 blends. When you make coffee this good, there is really no need to have more. read more

I love this place, and definitely recommend stopping by if you're in Pioneer Square. They make great drinks, and offer a lot of special, Italian Style coffee and chocolate drinks. They also serve cold brew, fruit granitas, and coffee granitas in the summer. Their pastries, cookies, sandwiches, salads and soups are all great and they have meat, vegetarian, and vegan options. Try the pasta salad with a fresh pressed OJ and a hazelnut shortbread cookie - the best lunch! The best soy latte I've ever had was made here. Friendly staff as well. read more

Great atmosphere and outdoor patio, but unfortunately the espresso was terrible. It was so bitter and burnt, I didn't finish it. Service was good, but not enough to make me ever want to return. Tougo and Analog both have excellent baristas and perfect espressos, and Umbria doesn't even come close. I think I'll stick with those. Too bad though, I really wanted to like this spot. read more

I come here often. It's super refreshing to drink a cup of coffee that is not chemically dumped like Starbucks. You can taste the natural ingredients and wonderful flavor in each cup and Caffe Umbria has the most amazing Cappuccino. Though the cafe is small, it feels and looks very spacious. I had a horrible experience. First, I ordered a sandwich and the barista passive-aggressively passed me on to the next barista to ring me up. Then soon after that she decided to ring me up, but made it seem like a bother. The price for the sandwich was mislabeled and she said that she could do nothing about it, with no apology. Best coffee service I've received in Seattle -- one of the few places that it's actually worth ordering a cappuccino and lingering to enjoy it. Strange that it's so unlike most of Seattle's notable coffee houses: Everything is clean! And the room is a bit elegant and modern. The baristas are not the least bit haughty -- very professional (even kinda sweet). The staff at Zeitgeist should visit just to see how it's done.
