I always find myself here after an evening in the North End. Caffé Vittoria is such a staple, always excellent service, desserts & drinks. I'm shocked I haven't reviewed them already. During my most recent visit, I had their affogato which had to be one of the best I've had - I chose to add Kahlua, and it was served in an old school ice cream dish which was perfect. I also got their pistachio martini, which comes with pistachio gelato, absolutely insane. They have great pastries, cannolis and desserts here as well. This is a cafe you go to sit down and have cold or hot drinks with dessert. I went during the Italian Festival so I think that's why it was really busy. But I saw other cafes much more busy. I mean the line was like thirty people waiting outside. I ordered a hot chocolate. It was good. I had the chocolate mousse cake. That was very tasty. After you are almost finished, I just felt they are coming over to clear your dishes and watching you and hope you will leave. We stopped at Caffe Vittoria during a food tour and we were lucky that a reservation was made and we had a table set aside for our group. As we walked in, we were met with the great aroma of coffee and baked goods. The place was very busy and there were a lot of staff moving around and customers having conversations or in line to order take out. We sat in a separate area downstairs and we were the only guests there. It was somewhat dark but it was private and there were bathrooms downstairs. I loved the cannoli here. Don't sue me but I think cafe vittoria cannoli is better than Mikes pastry cannoli! The cannoli is smaller and has a more cheesy taste. This place was recommended by our Uber driver. Many people mentioned the place next door which is very popular. We wanted something recommended by a local and very happy we went here. We were warned it was a cash only place. We just had dinner and wanted a little dessert and night cap. We walked in and although it was very busy, we sat right away. I love this café... I have so much history with this location... I frequented this café since the late 80s... back in the day we used to come here after clubbing... 2 AM possibly 3 AM with stroll in my table would be waiting for me. If you're gonna go for a slice of cake, I'd recommend the rum cake. I'm not really a cake person, but this one was super moist and delicious. Just be warned that if you're coming on a weekend, it's probably going to be pretty crowded. I'd recommend as a date spot, since the lighting is pretty dim and it feels like a more intimate spot. Food was good enough. Service was terrible, it's a cash only establishment which is fine no problem but it shouldn't take 20 minutes to find our waiter after asking staff in the different rooms for help to pay (we asked the staff and received rude responses every time, there were also at least seven staff all on break simultaneously sitting around the restaurant who were no help). It's also an automatic 20% tip for groups of 6 or more which is no problem for good service but not being checked in on at all in the hour we were there for is crazy (we mentioned we were only stopping by after the original waiter mentioned it was a busy night, even thought the tables around us are all empty). Our server finally comes and still expects a nice tip after we mentioned not being able to find her (mind you we have had different waitstaff throughout our time) because they don't get paid a fair wage (explicitly stating that her entire wage is dependent on only tips) without our tip is crazy at least pay your staff properly. She continues to talk about its right in front of us to the other staff on break right behind us. Overall, no staff was helpful at all when all we were trying to do was pay for the items we ordered, it's a cafe where you should at the bare minimum should have respectful staff. read more

Even at close to midnight it was absolutely packed with high turnover. Lots of loud conversation and fun among all the groups. If you've ever been to Versailles in Miami it's a very similar vibe. I ordered a decaf latte and my girlfriend ordered an espresso martini to go with our tiramisu. One caveat, our slice of tiramisu was good but not out of this world. It was light on the espresso and so the lady fingers were a little cakey as opposed to being a vehicle for that amazing coffee punch. They were cranking out tons of this stuff (we were seated near the counter and we watched slice after slice being plated) so it's possible we got a slice that was just a light pour somehow. I'm not a regular here so I don't know if this is always true, but based on the behavior of certain wait staff it seems like Vittoria does not like to accommodate larger groups and actually prefers them to stay away. Our party of 9 chose this cafe as a convenient midpoint location and had a terrible experience recently, which is why I'm updating my prior review. When about 2/3 of the group had arrived, we asked if we could be seated. The woman we asked said yes and started putting two tables together. While another woman was bringing chairs over, an angry male server who was not involved at all, suddenly began having an aggressive outburst that made very little sense to us. Even if we didn't fully understand what he was saying, the nonverbal communication was clear enough. Our group felt extremely uncomfortable and disrespected, so we left immediately. I don't know what their internal rules are about seating, but offending customers should not be one of them. Thankfully we were able to salvage the evening elsewhere, but service here could be a challenge, especially for larger groups. I'm fortunate that the cafes in my own neighborhood are always kind and welcoming, which makes them a joy to support. I'd hope Vittoria could do better in the future, but personally, we are unlikely to try them again. read more
