It's places like this that made coming to Seattle for a couple weeks to work on my book, a grand idea. It's mellow. It's friendly. They make a divine Soy Vanilla Latte. The barristo is nice and sat down at my outside table and asked me how my day was going. No one is sitting on their laptops working on screenplays and no one is yapping on their cell phones and disturbing the creative piece. It's perfect and I now have Caffe Ladro to thank for the successful completion of Chapter 5 :) read more

The hidden jem of Ladro is their Medici. Med-eeee-ch-ee. They're vastly impressed when you pronounce it correctly. It's basically a mocha with an orange twist dropped in, but creates a powerful after dinner dessert-esque drink worth a pop in. Also, they have a rotating art show and both the Stranger and the Seattle Weekly to kill time while waiting for your pickup order of Thai food. I live down the street from here, so I decided to go try it out with my boyfriend for the first time -- I have never been treated so rudely by a bartista, especially in Seattle. We walked in and got in line behind one customer who was ordering and tried to decide what we wanted. Meanwhile, another couple came in and walked over to the side; only then did I realize that there was a sign that said something like "line forms here." I figured we were close enough to the "real" line, and we had been waiting for a while, so we just moved up a couple steps and got in line. Once the first customer was finished, the batista looked directly at me, blatantly ignored me, and took the order of the people behind us. They looked kind of uncomfortable but eventually gave their order. I was pretty miffed at this point, and I suggested we leave, but my boyfriend was willing to give the bartista the benefit of the doubt and didn't think it was anything malicious. Once the couple was done ordering, the bartista waited for a while and finally looked over and said "if you're ready to order, I'll take your order over here." I looked at him, took one step to my (pointed) step to my left, and he finally offered to take our order. At this point, my boyfriend realized how ridiculous the bartista was acting, and we just left without ordering. We ended up getting an amazing chai smoothie and chocolate chocolate chip cookie from Metro Market, which was more amazing than anything I could have ordered at Cafe Lard-o. I have never been treated so rudely at any place I've been to in Seattle, and I can't believe that being 2 feet over to my left was a requirement for being able to order, especially on a Saturday afternoon when there were very few customers in there to begin with. read more

If you dig places that are hostile to puppies and baristas that shout at customers, this is the place for you. I live a block away and the coffee here is okay. But last week I walked in carrying my new puppy in my arm. I wanted to get cup of coffee to go. The line was long so I was barely inside the cafe. Within seconds, the barista loudly yelled to me that dogs are not allowed inside. Everyone in line--and everyone else in the cafe--turned and stared at me. I was surprised and embarrassed. I walked a block down the street to Uptown Espresso. The barista was friendly. She greeted my puppy and even gave her a dog treat. The coffee at Uptown Espresso is just as good. One establishment is dog-friendly, the other is dog-hostile and lets their baristas shout (bark?) orders at customers. As a pro-dog, anti-yelling resident of LQA, I'll choose Uptown Espresso every time in the future. read more

More than one star: it's not Starbucks (which I like philosophically, but the coffee quality blows). Only 2 stars: the brazen panhandler sign on the tip jar. To Blush P: Tips are certainly not required...as a former waiter and bartender (and, for a short time, at Peet's, a barista) there is no fricking way I would ever ask for a tip, in writing or otherwise...it is up to the patron, cheapskate or not. That being said, I always tip 10% for to-go orders and 20% or more in a bar/restaurant, provided the service is at least average. But soliciting tips? Lladro can go f--- themselves. No self respecting server, barista or otherwise, would EVER openly ask for a tip. Sure, there are douchebags who don't tip, even when the service is good, but they are douchebags...nothing anyone says and does will relieve them of the burden of being a douchebag. read more

I couldn't imagine going to any other coffee place in my neighborhood (and often choose to forego coffee if there isn't a Ladro around when I'm not in LQA). I have been to many of the Ladro locations, but this one is the best (and yes, I am completely biased). Thank goodness they added their own bathroom -- I hated having to walk down the stinky hallway of the Marqueen. If you are there in the evenings it's almost never crowded (and those who are there are regulars), and sometimes you can also watch groups of ladies stumble drunkenly from Chopstix to Pesos. read more

Where do I start? The convenience of having a connection to the hotel was brilliant, so I could meander in to get my caffeine fix. The baristas were super friendly and helpful when I wanted to try the local recipes. Even the customers were nice! Every time I visit Ladro it's the same deal: I walk in to the robust aroma of their fresh, amazing coffee. I am taken in by their awesome coffee house decor. I am promptly greeted by a friendly barista and quickly served my Grande Americano. I take a sip of my coffee and I'm in caffeine heaven. I then look around for a seat/table and find none. I wait around for a little while, but one never opens up. I sigh and go on my way. Caffe Ladro has some of the best coffee in Seattle, but I'm the type of person who likes to sit down and enjoy my coffee before heading off to my next destination and I can never do that at Ladro's because of the limited seating. For that reason alone I give this place four stars instead of five. read more

I have a fairly healthy coffee addiction and on a recent visit to Seattle, Caffe Ladro supplied all my hot, caffeinated needs. I made three visits in 24 hours and was actively considering a fourth. The staff is very friendly and helped with my pivotal morning decision: namely which pastry to get. I listened to their input but selected the chocolate chip cookie - twice. It was sensational. Both times. As far as java, I tried the Americano and the Macchiato and both were excellent in execution and presentation. This shop had a very relaxed vibe and I really enjoyed spending time there while wading through emails. I will return the next time I make it to the Emerald City. read more

Panic. Alarm. Confusion. Waking and realizing I'm out of coffee. Throw on the closest decent thing possible, put hair in a ponytail, glasses on and bolt, no sprint ,for Cafe Ladro. They pull great ,golden shots, are incredibly efficient and have a respectable assortment of beans to take home. On many occasions I come here for my staple soy latte, but man, in an emergency do they come through with the perfect americano to start the morning right and send me home with a bag of beans to make such emergency 7am outings not so shocking. If I'm not in such a hurry, I'll grab a joe to go, a vegan oat bar, and sit in the new gravel 'urban oasis' park across the street with a weekly paper and a cig. Bless this place for for being so close to home and rescuing me in a time of need. (but please - baristas of the world, never sit the milk pitcher down when steaming, never, ever, ever do that). read more

The best coffee in the city hands down. And on top of that it's organic and fair trade, you can't go wrong there. The barrista's actually know what they are doing and can pull great espresso shots, not to mention they are always friendly. I do wish they had made it larger for everyone to be able to sit down, but I love the chairs outside (even though you can only sit in them 1-2 months a year). After reading up on all the great places to get coffee, I decided this would be one of the stops on my coffee tour of Seattle. The barista was nice enough. I asked for an aeropress. Um, sorry. It's new company policy that if they're busy they can't do aeropress service. Barista recommends the really tasty drip they have available. Well, better than 'bucks? Barely. The roast wasn't a burn like at 'bucks. But come on. It wasn't journey worthy. And certainly not in the same league as my standby CoffeeWorks. Now if you're like I was, it the middle of a downpour having to seek refuge, then Caffe Ladro will be your preferred option over 'bucks. Otherwise breakout your handy dandy smartphone and seek out other options. read more

Why anyone would go to Starbucks with this place just a few stores away is a complete mystery to me. Great coffee, yummy freshly made pastries, and a great atmosphere overall. I have fond memories of plopping myself in one of the window tables with a good book, enjoying a lazy saturday morning. Make sure to try the pastries, you won't be disappointed. We had about a 30 minute wait at Toulouse Petit across the street so we decided to drop in here for a quick coffee fix. Great little shop, and my hot chocolate was delicious. Zingaro vs Ladro throwdown! So, both coffee shops are about equidistant from my work, and though I had previously visited Ladro in Upper Q.A, I hadn't yet popped into this location. Pricewise (and based solely on Americanos, cuz that's all I ever order at cafes), Ladro is sliiiightly cheaper than Metro Market & Zingaro. Taste-wise, I'd actually say Ladro's is a bit smoother, a little darker, and definitely fuller. I also appreciate that they are socially responsible about where they source their coffee beans from. As for baked goods, I was really happy to see a large selection of both sweet & savory treats, as well as vegan-friendly options. I snagged a vegan berry muffin for $1.90 (I should also note that their food selection is both cheaper and more diverse than Zingaro). The employees here are also really pleasant to deal with and attentive, not to mention super speedy. In the end, I think I prefer Ladro for variety of food & espresso, but I'll likely frequent both to keep things interesting. read more

This Ladro is great, as usual. My one gripe (and 1 star off for them) is the bathroom situation. It's a coffee house, keep the bathrooms close (but not too close). Since they are housed in the MarQueen Hotel, they don't really have a lot of control over this. The WCs are all the way down the hall, through the lobby, over the river & through the woods. I found this great coffeehouse chain by accident. It was located about a block or so from the hotel I stayed at in Seattle. Great coffee, great amtosphere (I had coffee, juice, and croissants on two of the mornings that I was here), really shows off the vibe of the great Queen Anne neighborhood. I dig the orange walls too! Didn't have time to see there other locations but I will definitely return here again on my next trip to Seattle.This is what coffeehouses used to be like in Chicago! I hadn't been here since the establishment was called Cinema Espresso and the MarQueen Hotel was just apartments, and so when I walked in I was wondering if my coffee experience would be the same as it was years ago. The latte I ordered was tasty, but the pastries didn't appeal to me at the time. I'll have to update my review here once I've tried some. It appears that they may roast their own coffee, but even if they do not they describe their coffee as a Northern Italian Roast (med-), full body with hints of chocolate and roasted nuts. They claim a 100% Fair Trade buzzword, er...I mean status, as well as claiming their beans to be Organic and Shade Grown. They open at 5:30am and close at 11:00pm every day of the year. The WiFi access didn't cut out on me like it does at some other places, and the place was lively and filled with many friendly faces. Having a good coffee shop downstairs is certainly a plus for the MarQueen Hotel. read more

I visited Caffe Ladro early in the morning and was pleased with my experience. Nice baristas, had a good latte, regulars chatting it up with baristas, clean, nice music. The decor reminded me of something I would see in Berlin. I don't know why. But still cool. I come to Queen Anne all the time to visit my sister, and they have vegan treats here for her non meat and dairy eating ass, so I'll be back...fa sho! read more

I like this cafe. It's not too far from my apartment, and it's a fun, reliable place to get coffee and get some work done. My work, for now, is finding a job! My friend Janine swore they made the best coffee drinks so that's what originally prompted me to check them out. They have not disappointed! Today is my third visit. I love that they have * consistently good, strong coffee * rice milk available * great service * reliable Wi-Fi * good music (always a different genre) Today, well today is special. The three guys behind the counter are wearing the cutest little sundresses! I heard a customer say, "Happy Sexy Sundress Sunday!" I'll go ahead and write it. They look cute and hot! Yeah baby! Nice comfy location of a local coffee house chain. More relaxed than the corporate green mermaid place. More like the faux intellectual, artsy fartsy wannabee, Yuppies' hang out. Best thing about this place is the outdoor seating in summer. They have a couple of tables, a couple of iron benches, and several wood lawn chairs to relax in with your Joe. The peanut chocolate biscotti is huge and good, too! Prices are typical and the going rate for espresso. read more

I went here twice the week I was in Seattle. Now that I'm home, I *really* miss the coffee here. Good robust drip coffee and the Medici was delicious. A good balance of orange and mocha. I didn't order it iced, but i got it that way anyway - oh well. The first time there, the counter staff was a tad rude, just a tad. The second time, different people, very friendly. Whenever I want something a little different, or perhaps a bit stylish, I go to Caffe Ladro for their Medici, a hot mocha with a fresh swirling orange peel bathing inside. I am not a fan of this particular location: the traffic can be loud at the corner of Queen Anne and West Roy, and for some reason this small cafe can get burning up hot! That being said, the energetic staff at Caffe Ladro offer a relaxing experience. read more

All about the Medici. I rarely go for the overdone espresso drinks, but at Ladro I'm always compelled to order their Medici -- a concoction of espresso, chocolate and freshly zested orange oil. To me, the atmosphere leaves something to be desired compared to Victrola or Bauhaus, but who cares when they've got the goods. read more

I love the creamy orange walls inside Ladro... The art on the wall rotates, I am certain, and is a nice touch. This version is staffed by a young, hip group of indie music playing baristas. Honestly, the best coffee in Seattle (at least in my tiny mind). Maybe it's because they were one of the first coffee shops to open on Queen Anne besides the big green giant. DON't miss their amazing raspberry pie in the summer. Crap. It's dang good. And seriously like five inches thick. The cardamom coffee cake is scrumptious as is the pumpkin bread. Fine little coffee shop in my neighborhood. Not a big coffee lover (GASP!) but I do love me some tea and theirs is OK. Their chai is to be avoided--super bland and completely wrong. I mean, I would rather have a nice cup of lukewarm water. They have excellent baked goods though. Their rhubarb pie is my favorite. As has been said in other reviews, it really is a neighborhood joint and since it is in my neighborhood I do find myself stopping by for the rhubarb pie with some regularity. read more

After about 4 months of not drinking coffee, I gave up today... Went here with a buddy for a coffee break from work around 11:00 am and walked about 6 blocks to Caffe Ladro in lower Queen Anne. When I used to work for WaMu in downtown, I would go to Caffe Ladro on Union on a weekly basis for a mocha. Today, I got a grande mocha. I've been to this location before, almost a year ago. The service was nice and for the single fellas out there, the barista is cute (asian lady w/cool tats). Looks like I'm back on that horse again and looking forward to daily or weekly visits to this place to get my fix on for coffee and mochas. I love and hate this place at the same time. It's the closest coffee shop to where I work. The coffee is always good (and their chai makes my heart flutter ... in a good way). The pastries and cookies are always fresh (try the apple pie, it's dope). The music and atmosphere are relaxing and comfortable. I love those things. I hate the service. I have never had good service at this location (W. Seattle - totally different story). Either the baristas are much more interested in talk to each other than talking to you, or the barista doesn't talk, period. I once completed a transaction there where the only thing the barista said to me was "sweet or spicy?" Otherwise it was a series of eye contact and mumbled grunts. Ladro, I want to love you so bad. I buy my roasted Espresso beans here most of the time since it has a roasting date and I like it. I don't like most of their products, but what I don't like the most is their service. How hard is it to apply logic when dealing with customers. Yesterday, the girl asked me to leave because there are more than 3 people in the store. She failed to realize that the fourth person came to join a lady lining up in front a few minutes after I came in. If you don't pay attention, then you can't do your job well. She certainly does not know how to do hers. Asking people to wait outside because they look an easier target than others was evident in her action. Hence, I snapped at her and she pulled back. Still she actually never asked the lady in front to ask her partner to leave. So it is only ok for me to be asked. This is not the first time I have seen the folks in this store target minorities. This is not the first time they are rude to me. I am looking for a different place to buy my coffee. This is not a healthy environment. read more
