The pizza here is so tasty and amazing. It's unfortuante that I can't say the same about their paninis. It's like they only toasted the bread and not the whole sandwich... when it came to our table it was cold. It was still edible but the Soprasata was a bit to salty...(yes I do know that it is a cured meat and that's how it should taste) but they could've added something to the sandwich to tame it. Man, while walking around Little Italy this afternoon we came across this place and I was looking for a place that offered an espresso and a canoli, and did i find it. The Canoli was very good and the espresso didn't disappoint at all. Sitting on the patio enjoying our visit was very pleasant. To top it off, we met the owner Baby John who was very flamboyant. After having been ripped off at the "touristy bakery" around the corner, and being unsatisfied with the cannoli we ordered there we just happened upon Caffe Palermo on the walk back. All we needed to see was "Award winning cannoli" in the window and we were sucked in. However, we were on a mission to satisfy our cannoli craving that we did not accomplish at the first bakery. The next night we were so thrilled to have these! Fresh, crispy shell (not even soft from being kept overnight) and the BEST taste in the filling EVER...better than I could get back home, MUCH better than the "touristy bakery" the night before. Actually though, let's be honest here. One glance and you can already tell it's a tourist trap. It wasn't a bad tourist trap though. I was craving something sweet on an evening strolling around the area, and this happened to be right there at the time. So let's start with the most important aspect of Italian dessert first: gelato. This was definitely not gelato. Comparing to the cones I've had in Italy, this was way airier and easier to melt. But the flavor was good. I got the pitaschio and stracciatella, and I recommend the stracciatella. After examining my friend's cone as well, I concluded that the Italian-sounding flavors were way better. I also got their mini cannolis, and these were so satisfying. I grew up eating a lot of cheese and cream based or filled pastries, so these tasted like childhood. The shell was crunchy but not hard, really easy and fun to bite into, and the ricotta filling was light. I would probably come here late at night though, because it seemed like it would be full during daytime. Since it was quite late, the service was also better and the waiters and waitresses were a lot more relaxed and patient. read more
