The ambience is lively and you will see many locals stopping for fresh gelatos, candies or their cannolis. They also have wide range of Italian sandwiches. I enjoy the fresh ingredients and flavors but was a bit disappointed in their sandwiches due to the raving reviews. Going in with high expectations, I didn't find them above average. Caffe Stellato is located in downtown Burlingame. This is a pretty busy area, so parking may be hit or miss - I was actually parked right in front of this shop. I originally was not planning on coming here, as I already got boba from across the street and I was going to do some shopping nearby. Anyway, after shopping, I had already finished my boba, so I walked in to just check out the menu here and was intrigued by their green tea gelato. Service was great from Juan - he was friendly and polite. As I was debating, I decided to wait in line just in case. I asked the employee, Juan, if I may use their restroom first. He thought about it for a second and then led me outside & downstairs to their restroom with the key to open the door for me, which I appreciated. When I came back up, I went back next door to the store to thank him and ended up deciding to get the green tea gelato, since he was willing to go through the extra effort to let me use their restroom. The green tea gelato I ordered was absolutely delicious and I was glad I decided to order it. It was creamy and sweet with a good green tea taste that was not too bitter. I feel like green tea is not a common flavor at a lot of shops and I had gelato at other spots that were more icy than creamy / smooth. The cutest little gelato shop that I selfishly want to keep to myself but won't gatekeep because they deserve the business! After dinner in the Burlingame shopping center we wanted a sweet dessert. There's a Salt & Straw in that area but I kind of hate that place and the hype it gets for being ice cream you don't even want to truly finish a scoop of LOL. We came across this small gelato shop that was boasting they had like 30 flavors or something so we obviously had to go in. I have never seen that many gelato flavors in my life it was so hard to choose and I got like 5 samples and they were all delicious but I went with my old love stracciatella in a cone. It was SO creamy and delicious I usually can't do too much ice cream/gelato but I very easily finished the scoop on a full stomach. The store had a big candy wall and also sold sandwiches?? Seriously such a cute mom & pop shop (I think it is at least) and 1000000x better than the salt & straw down the street! read more

Already had two bad experiences in 2025 and won't be coming back. Which is sad because I think their pistachio gelato is the best and was putting up with rude service for it. Unfortunately the other flavors I have gotten have been a miss. Visit 1: Came with young children, paid for their scoops and got them settled in seats and then this mama was excited about her turn. Went back to get a scoop and the gentleman visibly sighed in exasperation to my face ( because he had to put new gloves on? ) Visit 2: Got schooled on "1 taste per person" on asking for a second flavor taste. The gentleman argued that the rules were made by management but I assume the rudeness is not a management requirement - no smile or greetings , lack of eye contact while mumbling ' one taste' and walking away while I stood there. Getting Gelato should make you feel happy not annoyed. To the management - Get a fun sign or something if you want to impose the one taste per person rule so that ppl are not surprised. read more

After 15 years of living in Burlingame there is finally a deli that can stand up to the Italian delis of NY/NJ that I grew up with and loved. I've tried all the local delis over the years and there was always constant disappointment. No more. Caffe Stellato passes the vibe check as you walk in. Slide past the variety of drinks, chips, desserts and candies and find yourself overwhelmed by the bountiful options found on the menu. Explore their imported sauces, spreads and pastas. And don't overlook the abundant gelato options. I've been slowly working my way through the menu in recent weeks having enjoyed Mafioso, Siciliano, Sant'Issaco, Rompiballe and Salsiccia Italiana. None have left me disappointed and all were more than satisfying. Caffe Stellato has worked it's way into my weekly rotation of dining options. And thanks to it's great gelato it's now a perfect way to cap off an evening with a nice treat. Staff is always friendly and helpful. The shop is always clean, organized and presentable. Very tiny and narrow inside, so if you're in a big group, make sure to have a designated payer so you can just order, grab and head outside to make more room for other patrons. 42 flavors in total! It's so hard to choose, everything looked delicious! The hubs ordered 3 flavors and I order 3.5 flavors. 3.5 because I asked if I can split one scoop into 2 different flavors. The guy was very accommodating. This deserved 1 star! Flavors were good (This counts for the 2nd star), but the texture was not. Anyone else feel like they were eating cold melting gum? The gelato stretched as if I was stretching soft melted cheese. Had my share of gelatos, but never have I ever had gelato with this kind of texture. It really threw me off and it was not enjoyable. Ended up throwing it away without finishing it. As someone who is deeply passionate about desserts and being an ice-cream/gelato/sorbet fiend, it speaks volumes that I had to toss it away. If you like, thick, stringy, gummy and extremely oddly stretchy gelato, this place is perfect for you. It ain't for me. read more

Good gelato, variety of flavors, and great service. I love that this place is open sort of late, so you can come get your gelato fix up to 11pm. There were so many flavors to choose from, but even after checking out their Yelp page beforehand, I was coming for the black cherry - which did not disappoint. Came here for a quick dessert after lunch with my bf and a friend. The shop is small but has so many goodies! I couldn't decide which flavor to get but the worker (maybe manager?) was kind to offer me some samples. I really like fruit ice cream/gelatos so I tried the raspberry and it was so refreshing. I wanted to sample more but a long line started forming out the door and there were only 2 guys working the gelato station. This is by far the best gelato I've ever had. They expanded their store inside. It got bigger than the last time I've been. They have a variety of flavors. They also had some fruity flavors, but I wasn't able to snap a pic. Their gelato is high quality gelato in my opinion. Their pistachios is actually my favorite at this place. It's not too sweet, and it has a lot of actual pistachios in it. The service is okay. I think the people serving the gelatos itself are just there to just serve, not really to be friendly and nice. The get their job done, but they don't give you the warm feeling of interacting with their customers. Overall, it's worth the drive to check this place out. read more

What a wonderful surprise! We came here because the line down the street at another ice cream store was way too long. I'm sure glad we did! Some of the most intensely flavored frozen treats I've had in recent memory. This gelato is top notch! The flavors I tried were so concentrated in the best way: think rich hazelnut, fresh strawberry, and elegant fig. Every flavor was pure and the texture dense and smooth. This might be one of my new favorite places on the Peninsula. I don't know how they pack so much into one tiny store, but there is so much to love here. Sandwiches, coffee, the best chips, Italian pastries/cannolis, and most of all GELATO. We ordered two sandwiches, and while waiting, I tried several flavors of gelato. I love the gelato here because it's so creamy and the flavors are just amazing. I ended up getting the black cherry chip and the straciatella while hubby got himself dark chocolate. I think I'm going to have to come back a couple times a week just to get through all 42 flavors of gelato. After finishing our gelato (yes, I had dessert before my meal), we started on the sandwiches. Again, one of my favorite sandwiches - the ingredients are so fresh, there is just the right ratio of bread to meat to veggies/cheese, and the flavors mix together so well. For those that know me, sandwiches are my love language, and Caffe Stellato, is serving up some delicious Italian sandwiches. Hands down, my new favorite sandwich on Burlingame Ave and it's not even close! When you first walk in, you'll notice a bunch of gelato and desserts. At the back of the store, you'll see a huge sandwich board with carefully crafted sandwiches. My eye went directly to the Petto di Pollo, and this was FIRE. It's Mediterranean chicken, pecorino Sardo cheese, pesto sauce, plus all the fixings and the flavors were perfect. I opted for spicy, and it was perfect kick the complemented the other flavors of the sandwich. Pair that with toasted ciabatta bread, and I left satisfied with a full stomach. I found my new favorite flavor, Lucuma, something I had never tried before. It has a complex flavor profile that changes as you consume it. Super interesting and delicious! I enjoyed several of the flavors others recommended as well. Watermelon ice was the best I have ever had. Hazelnut brownie gelato was great. Pistachio, one of my already favs, was outstanding quality and flavor. The decor and novelty candy offerings make this an interesting place to visit. Wow. Just wow! This gelato place hits the spot. I stopped by after getting a deep dish at Blue Line as it is next doors, and man oh man was it soooooo good. I tasted a bunch of their flavors, and they were all on point. I was super intrigued by the Cardamom flavor and it did not disappoint at all. I always go for the Hazelnut, and even though that was so amazing too, I forced myself to go with the Cardamom because it's not something you find in all gelato places. I only wish they can do split flavors for the single scoop like other gelato places, but the gelato was too good to be sad about that. This will be my go to place whenever I am in the area. Came here after dinner and was surprised this place wasn't as packed as I thought it would. Relatively close to the salt and straw over on the next block but decided to try some gelato. I got the hazelnut brownie and the coconut almond joy, and both flavors blew my mind. The hazelnut brownie was on point. The hazelnut was very aromatic and the chocolate was smooth and not too sweet. The coconut almond joy tasted exactly like an almond joy with bits of chocolate pieces in it that really took it to the next level for a candy bar gelato.
