I would give this restaurant zero stars if I could. The food was served rotten, cold, and the service was terrible. When we confronted the owner she was unapologetic and rude. The owner said we just didn't understand the food which is funny since we're full blooded Italians. Here's a step by step: we arrive with a reservation at 1pm and they don't seat until 1:20. We can hear the chef swearing in the kitchen behind us. The service was slow. We had two diabetics in our party and asked for Diet Coke and they brought us regular coke (very dangerous). Half the menu wasn't available. No silver wear until after the food was served. The food was half the portions than usual for the same price. All of the dishes that were supposed to be hot were cold. Service was atrocious. One of the salads was served with rotten lettuce. Little to no dressing on all of the salads. Only one of the terrible dishes was taken off the ticket where I would argue they all should have been. I don't write reviews, but this was too bad not to write about. My family is Italian and used to love this restaurant as we have been going here for years, but regrettably this was our last time. We came here for my son in law's birthday. He loves Italian food, particularly the northern regions. I had lasagna. It was not good but way better than the spaghetti and meatballs. I spit the meatballs out. Never have I ever done that before! My daughter had a seafood pasta, which she liked. My son in law and husband had the chicken parmesan and it very bland. Their gravy (sauce) is very bland and disappointing! I do not recommend this place. The staff was very nice but it doesn't help the food! I called the Oro valley location several times and was put on hold. While on hold I can hear the lady talking to other people and totally ignoring my call. 3 times she did that and the last time, she told me she was busy and put me back on hold. I placed an order to pick up. The lady who took my order was pleasant enough. I got to the restaurant at the time she told me the food would be ready. I stood just inside the door waiting for someone to come help me. I had never been there before, so I was unaware that I needed to go to the bar to pick up the food. I stood there for a few minter before another couple walked in. We all stood there waiting for someone. I would say it was about 5 minutes before someone acknowledged us. Several people walked by not even looking at us. A lady finally sat the couple. I told her I was waiting to pick up food. She went in the back, then I never saw her again. I finally went to the bar. After waiting several more minutes, I got the food and left. My husband and I each got an entree, and we split an appetizer. The calamari was under cooked and chewy. My pasta was tasteless, over cooked and mushy. My husband's meal was fine, but no taste. Certainly not with the $70! Bad service, bad food. We will never go there again. read more

My husband and I just had dinner at Cafe Torino. Our server John was horrible. We both ordered the same dish and waited 45 min to get our food. When it finally arrived one of the dishes had chicken that was so over cooked we had to send it back. No apologies given. I was completely done with my meal when my husbands meal was served. We paid our bill and not once did we get an apology for the over cooked chicken. No way will we ever give this business our money again. This was the second time we have had horrible service. I've been visiting Cafe Torino periodically over the last five years, much more often in the last year. I have witnessed a continual degradation in the performance of this restaurant. The owner, Daniela, is from Italy and the receipes are from her Mother, so the food is generally excellent. However, lately they seem to be out of everything. Last night they ran out of pizza dough and shrimp (which was their special last night). What Italian restaurant runs out of pizza dough? This was not the first time. The final straw was when we learned that Daniela recently fired Audrey, the lead bartender. Audrey was fantastic and added so much energy. This is a massive mistake. This was my first visit to Caffe Torino. I had traveled to the area to support my mother through the loss of my her husband, my stepfather, and recent loss of my aunt just months before. The menu looked intriguing and the restaurant inviting. I booked a table for just us two Christmas Eve, and I was really hoping for an experience "above and beyond" to lure both of us out of a rather somber Holiday mood. Well, it was everything we had hoped for and more. The Cabrilla fish flown in from the Sea of Cortez was served over perfectly cooked Parmesan risotto with a tomato saffron cream sauce. It was as brilliantly prepared as any seafood I've had in San Diego, San Francisco, or Miami. We had wonderful, prompt service, and the drinks were pleasant yet average. Absolutely fantastic. The good news? The food is amazing. Risotto al Mare, Gnocchi di Patate, Tallegio stuffed chicken breast, Lamb Shank, Pork Chop, and Strawberry salad were all top notch. I went with a large group, so I got to taste all these things. The two stars are for the flatly rotten service. I could go on for hours, but I would bore you all to tears. Suffice it to say, I was excited when I made my reservation (in Italian), that I might have an actual authentic Italian meal here. I was looking for a special place to take my Italian friends when the come all the way over the pond to visit me. I deeply regret that I must continue to look, as the service here is dismal. Caffe Torino is just the type of restaurant we would love to have in Boulder. Fresh and authentic italian cuisine but without pretension. We were down in Tucson for a hiking weekend and hadn't savored any of our previous meals when we happened upon CT. The owner has this restaurant decorated in a way that stepping in the door is like stepping into Italy. There are maybe 10-12 tables which creates a very nice intimate setting. Conversation in Italian was eminating from the kitchen...A good sign. We had a choice but selected a table near the open kitchen towards the back of the restaurant where we could see and smell the action. It was obvious to us that the entire wait staff enjoyed their job. They all had a smile on their faces and were helpful in recommending dinner choices. The wine selection is extensive with a nice variety of wines in different price ranges. Our meal was melt in your mouth delicious! We found out later (from the owner/chef Daniela) that the ravioli is made by her father daily. No wonder why it was so fantastic..it's authentic! I highly recommend you try this restaurant. It is absolutely charming and the food is very flavorful. You won't be disappointed. read more

No reservations...we loved CT. Walked in, first time diners, at about 5:30 pm Sunday night. No problem. Ambiance is warm and relaxed. Here comes the lovely garlicky focaccia in a basket and cup of olive oil with a dot of balsamic vinegar. Happy hour. Yes, please! Glass of buttery Chard and hearty Chianti. Ryan-- bless him-- was our waiter. And how great he was. Specials were three: a pasta, a fish, and a meat. All were tempting. After the 60 sec internal struggle (very passionate this evening) I chose the grouper. I hesitated a bit because of a very unfortunate halibut encounter at a different venue the evening before. Would I regret the fish two nights in a row? NO!! The grouper arrived cooked perfectly, pulsating with a divine combination of garlic, olive oil, a bit of wine, flat leafed Italian parsley (a gift from God) and roasted cherry tomatoes. Oh lord. The pasta was perfectly cooked with more olive oil and the freshest of fresh Italian parsley. And accompanied by a great melange of toothy roasted veg. I added a bit of grated Parm because Ryan, the tempter, provided us with same, dishing out that gold by hand in an accomplished tremor. Hubs had his eggplant which looked rich and disappeared like Tucson snow. Ryan advised him that it was second to lasagna in popularity. This is now the Hubs fave Italian restaurant. Basically LTPC (licked the platter clean) as did I, grouper-wise. Total for two entrees and two glasses of wine each was about $67, without tip. We tipped over 20% because the service called for it. A friend and I came here for lunch- when we entered the cafe it was not overly crowded, but no one came out to greet us. We stood around for a bit not knowing if we should seat ourselves or not- one lady was at the counter ignored us...a bit odd. Another server came and told us to sit where we'd like and from this point on we had great service. We ordered the talapia with linguine and lemon and caper sauce as well as the salad Nicolse. They were both very reasonably priced at 12.00$. No issues with the food except I will say that the pasta was a bit aldente to the point where it was somewhat difficult to wind up. Flavor was excellent and the caper/lemon sauce was perfect. The fish was cooked very well, but there was a little bloodline left in which gave off a rather fishy taste. Otherwise, a very good meal. We have normally enjoyed this restaurant, however today when we went in, we waited inside the door for at least 15 minutes. We were never acknowledged by the staff, nor did they seem to notice that we were even standing there. There were a couple of empty tables with dirty dishes, but there was little attempt to clean them and get us seated. After some disappointment, we finally walked over to Harvest, where we received excellent food and service!! However, after going back and talking to the owner, she was very apologetic, saying that they had a girl not show up for work, which threw everything into chaos. After reading all the positive reviews, my wife and I were excited to check the place out. Unfortunately, the service was so poor that we left before trying anything besides the bread, which was unceremoniously deposited by a frazzled waitress doing double-duty as hostess. Specifically, we arrived around 6:40 on a Tuesday night without a reservation. We were told that there would be a brief wait while tables were bussed, which was consistent with the few open tables we saw. We ended up waiting 15 minutes to be seated (after another party of two without a reservation had been seated) before we took a two-top that had just been cleared. Shortly after we were seated, the bread and water arrived, and with it, the end of our service. We decided to wait to see if anyone would at least tell us when we might expect our server, but we called it quits after 20 minutes of literally nothing. While I expect service to slow down on busy nights, I expect more on a Tuesday at 6:45 pm. read more

Our first experience a year ago at this establishment was amazing. Great food, good service. We were back in town and looked forward to a repeat experience. The staff was dis-interested in us, the service was rushed; they made us feel like we were a burden. The biggest disappointment was the food. My wife and i both ordered the Lasagna. It was over-cooked to the point of mush, and had no flavor at all. The biggest shock was the $102.00 tab for two meals with salad, 4 glasses of wine, and a shared dessert. I met a friend here for lunch today, and was completely impressed! What a wonderful surprise this place was! Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. The food was fresh and delicious. I had a salad with a wonderful balsamic vinaigrette, and eggplant parmesan. I tried the chocolate cake, and I'm not usually a huge cake fan, but this cake was moist, and had dark chocolate pieces on it, along whipped cream, and an authentic vanilla iced cream - it was absolutely to die for!! Just 3 stars because of bad service. We went for breakfast. I showed up a little earlier than my friends, stept inside the restaurant and stood there waiting. Nobody paid attention to me. Finally a waitress informed me I can sit wherever I want, I mentioned to her Im waiting for my friends. Sitting at the table for about 10 minutes, they could have offered me some water. We ordered the special, not sure if its considered italien food, but it was really good. The extra Salsa came in a little container maybe just 2 tablespoonfull. No refill on the water. We ask for 3 seperate checks. Recieved one check, wasnt even ours, belongt to someone else. Waitet another 10 Minues for our checks. read more

I have gotten food poisoning on 2 separate occasions form under cooked chicken and rotten seafood. This past time I let the owner know and of course my meal was comped but I was in bed for a day and violently ill. After last night's fiasco, I can no longer recommend Caffe Torino. Two of our party of four ordered scallops risotto, and after waiting an hour it was served half-done. Not smooth and creamy, but crunchy and with a raw note. Raw risotto. Ugh. There is simply no excuse. Our server apologized, and the kitchen re-plated with linguine, yet there was no consideration given on our check. We'll go elsewhere until they fix whatever has gone wrong in the kitchen. read more

We ate here on a busy Saturday night. We did not have reservations however we were seated right away. We were greeted by fast and friendly employees and upon being seated our drink order was taken and the bread was on the table. Our favorite thing was the stuffed chicken dish. The bread was outstanding. We were not in the mood for any wine so we went with the iced teas and they were very unique and tasted very good (reminded me of an earl Grey tasting tea). I could see how they got such a good review in last years Arizona Highways magazine. The food and service here is good.
