Tonight my cousin and I went to Cajun King at 906pm to order take out. We ordered combo #2 Dungeness crab mild with cajun and garlic butter. Got home and started eating. We decided to save the best for last! (Crab) we finished eating everything else and was finally time to open up the crab, we was so excited! We love crab! & we opened it and the crab was ROTTEN!!! You can smell the crab was spoiled! Soooooo DISGUSTING! We wanted to go back but it was already after 10pm when we got to the crab and they were already closed. We all feel so disgusted, I really hope we dont get sick because it was in the same bag as everything else! I can't believe it, we've been there so many times & we never had this happen to us before. My coworker one day was talking about seafood and how she loved this place! She kept telling me I had to go try and get the garlic butter! My reaction was... I gotta drive to AIEA???! Her: I live in Hawaii Kai! me: ok you're farther but STILL AIEA?! This place better blow my mind. I went on a weekday, I got the combo with the dungeous crab which is what I always get at all Cajun places. The combo like most places comes with shrimp, clams, mussels, crawfish, sausage, corn on cob and potatoes and bowl of rice. I'm not a fan of crawfish but this place doesn't let you substitute.. I didn't like that, I always sub for more shrimp at other places. Got what she said to get Garlic butter and I thought it was Mehh. I also got fried oyster with fries. That wasn't bad. Just a reminder the crab comes whole, you have to start cracking and ripping it apart yourself. Bring a guy :) Price wise: Average. Was it worth my drive?? Ehh no. I'd highly recommend this place solely based on those cravings alone! I've been here a few times recently, of those times I had tried their Combo A, Cajun fries, fried chicken, and raw oysters. There's not that much 'Cajun Seafood' on Oahu, and I believe Cajun King would be the only one located on the West/Central side of Oahu. Located in the Waimalu Shopping center, you wont miss its White and Red Sign! There is ample parking, however the road is a bit bumpy so be sure to drive safely! :) Great insight from a waiter!! - Do order seafood by pound, because you get what you pay for - Do order the sides on the side (inexpensive and you get a lot more than the combo) - When you get a combo, the only one worth the price is Combo B - Order cajun fries with chicken, ($7 just for the cajun fries, $9 for both chicken and fries) not a bad deal and the chicken is amazing! - Get the Volcanic, if you can handle spice, if you can't order medium so you can enjoy your meal! :) The wait staff here aren't that alert, however they have a great charisma when serving customers. Of those times I've come here, they have forgotten rice, sauces, coming back to refill water, and we would always have to flag down our waiters.. a little bit much right? Just look at the photos. The pictures will tell you everything you need to know. This place isn't terrible but it IS over-priced and under-seasoned. That's the opposite of Cajun. What Cajun seafood boil have you been too where the crawfish weren't seasoned already (coming out of the boil)? Louisianans put the flavor in the meat, not in the bag. This seems to be the norm here though. I'm assuming this place, like many others, is ripping off the Cajun and Creole theme but failing to use the proper boiling methods associated with the style. Have you tried the fried fish or shrimp? There is nothing Cajun about it. This place shouldn't be called Cajun King. It's misleading. On top of the food experience, the customer service experience is also lackluster. As a Louisianan, I was extremely disappointed to see our food and culture being presented in such a substandard way. My gf and I tried this for the first time recently. We're already fans of Cajun seafood and have tried different locations around the island. This location was pretty exceptional. We came in during an off time of the day so service was extra quick and comfortable. Our host/waiter was very attentive and gave good info for us to make the right choice. There are different price points for each mixed bag. You can also choose the spice level of your flavoring. We had more than enough food for the both of us, including an order of fries. I actually like this place! I didn't give them 5 stars because their king crab wasn't fresh. I want to "crack" the legs open.... Not bend them open. Bendy soft shells are a no-no when it comes to crab...... That was my only gripe about this place. I ordered the king crab garlic butter with volcano sauce on the side. My cousin ordered the lobster combo with Cajun garlic butter. We also got a dozen raw oysters. I was soooooo stuffed! Called in for a phone order unsure of what to get and asked for a recommendation and the girl on the phone was very helpful and so sweet! When I came to pick up, the workers were so incredibly nice and thoughtful! Very welcoming and quick! Although the front entrance is a little cramped. And 1 bag is definitely enough for 2 people if you're feeling generous, I'm skinny and I can eat an entire bag by myself. The king crab tastes great and so does the shrimp! On my visit not too long ago, my boyfriend and I had ordered the combo #4 and cajun fries along with it. We first got our cajun fries in about 5 minutes from the time we placed the order. It was not too bad concerning how mildly busy it was. Then our food came, I was not too happy with how the whole combo looked - For one, our shrimp looked very unseasoned and white! - Two, potatoes were so hard. It wasn't boiled enough. - Three, we were given small crab legs. Although I've eaten their food before, it was my first time eating at the restaurant. We had a family dinner, since we were celebrating both my younger sisters -the Gemini Twins' birthdays (note they're not twins but they're both Geminis, thus my nickname for them). As far as service is concerned, I would say things were pretty good. We didn't wait long, possibly 5 minutes tops. Our server, I think his name was Brandon, was great. He constantly checked in with us to make sure everything was going ok, refilling our waters and sodas. There was 8 of us altogether, and we ordered a lot of food. 5# snow crab legs (2# in garlic butter sauce, 2# plain and, 1# Cajun), 2# shrimp with garlic butter sauce, 1# craw fish with garlic butter sauce, rice, corn, potatoes, french fries, black bean clams (for my mom), and salt and pepper shrimp (for my dad). Yeah we ordered a lot! My fave would have to be the black bean clams. I love that the clams had the black bean flavor, and it wasn't salty like how some black bean dishes tend to be. I was happy just putting the sauce over rice. YUM! It's a definite must try. I would go back just for the black bean clams. The only down side was that the Cajun sauce and french fries were on the salty side. I had to down several cups of my drink to counter it. I did let the corn and potatoes sit in the sauce, and it picked up some of the Cajun flavor. Even after we were done eating we had so much left over food about 4# of food! My fam frequently orders take-out by the pound here and we love it! Highly recommend their Shrimp with Cajun & Garlic Butter (spicy level: volcanic of course!). We've gotten their seafood combos before and it's good, but I honestly can only rave about the freshness and flavor of the shrimp since that's my go-to. The reason for the three stars is from the couple of dine-in experiences I've had here. The place itself is spacious, but so dirty! The meal is hands-on and messy, but there seems to always be food on the floor, oily on the chairs, and stickiness on the tables. We were told right at the door that 18% gratuity is included for 6+ parties - I actually appreciate that they communicate this upfront and honestly, it's a common practice. However, this is a meal where servers just bring food out in bags - it doesn't even require plates or utensils! So I expect the service to come with frequent check-ins, water refills, etc. The staff was slow, negligent, and unattentive both times we were here. First off I love how place is closer then boiling crab and kickin kajun. Sadly I do have some complaints first some of my crawfish were cold and my sausage undercooked. Second The crawfish weren't filled cleaned and not fully cooked. Third and last the lobster also wasn't fully cooked was kinda cold. Meal all together wasn't that hot. The seafood didn't seem that fresh. It was like they reheated it. The shrimp and crawfish were small. My husband got the fried catfish with Cajun fries which he thought wasn't bad. He was just happy that they had tartar sauce for his fish because they never had it at Crab City when we used to go. Service was excellent. I really loved this place better than any other similar spot. Great food, hence the 1 star... BUT I am unable to give out more stars. As I entered there was a couple who came right after me. They seated them & then me. As I was looking at the fried menu, the server had told me that their fryer is down (main reason i wanted to come here was for their Cajun chicken and fries) so I said okay that's fine, I'll have some crab legs & shrimp. 5-10 min later I got my shrimp and crab legs. As I was eating my food, I realized the couple who entered after me had ordered fried chicken & SERVED with fried chicken. Like okay first of all, the server just told me their fryer was down.. if you're gonna lie, at least communicate with the other server too‍ I've been here before & I know that servers usually look over your shoulder to see if u need anything else. The 2 girls working at that time didn't. They stayed in that dark room talking stories & laughing. No water refills the whole time I was there. & don't try to tell me that I should've tried to get that attention because it's their job to give the attention. Last minute decision to eat here with my daughter, parents, & grandpa visiting from the Philippines. We came an hour before closing & there was no wait time. As first timers, we loved the seafood! The men were just as excited when they found out they served beer lol Service started off weird but got better overtime. I asked one of the servers if I could use the "free soda with check in" coupon that they have on their yelp and he looked at me like i didn't know what I was talking about even though I showed him it. Wait for the seafood wasn't too bad. Another server even gave crayons to keep my daughter occupied. As I entered the restaurant I felt a slap on my rear end. No, it wasn't anyone getting frisky with my tookus, it was the door. The door at this establishment shuts violently right behind you. I recommend they get a door closer, or a better hinge. When the employees noticed we had a baby in a baby car seat they grabbed a high chair, flipped it upside down and made a great place to sit the baby chair seat in since my baby is to young to sit in a high chair. I thought that was smart thinking and was glad they cared about my baby. A lot of restaurants contrary to most belief don't put in much effort to make sure your baby is okay. Our server was Travis although we had a lot of different waiters through out the night but did not introduce themselves as our waiters. We were sat in the reserved section because more room for the baby and so people wouldn't crowd here in the corner of the restaurant. I went to the restroom twice during the duration of the time here. Once I almost slipped and then another time I actually slipped but caught myself thanks to the door handle. For some reason there were puddles all around the bathroom and even outside of it. We were here for 2 hours and in those two hours no one thought to mop up the mess. When we finally got our food it was nice and hot. I got mild spice when I ordered and immediately regretted it at the time because normally mild isn't spicy enough but to my surprise it was perfect! A lot spicier then I imagined for mild. My boyfriend and I got the same thing, combo #4 Snow Crab Legs with Cajun and Garlic Butter seasoning. The potato's, pieces of corn on the cob and sausage tasted amazing and cooked very well! The seafood was also very good but I realized it was mainly due to the help of the seasoning. The crawfish tasted like they were frozen prior to cooking. Normally when seafood is fresh the shells fall off a lot easier. The only things that tasted fresh were clams and oysters. Its disappointing when the sides taste better then the seafood, especially when the seafood is the main attraction. Also the white rice on the side was rather stale. Seafood lovers, rejoice! It is possible to get good seafood at great prices in the pearl city area! My fiancé and I came here several times.. and we usually get a pound of shrimp (only $13! And usually it's about 22-25 pieces!) with lemon garlic butter, and plain snow crab (it's only $16 or $18 per pound.. sorry cant remember) with butter on the side. The snow crab comes steaming hot and I have always been able to get plenty of meat easily when I break them open. The shrimp is also always delicious and we love the lemon garlic butter because it's not overpoweringly garlicky, and the hint of lemon is refreshing. The shrimp do come with the heads (which is customary for places like this) The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the oysters on the half shell. The oysters didn't taste super fresh, the oyster meat is not separated from the shell, and the "ponzu" sauce served with it is just okay. Also, the oysters were pretty big (and I like fresh smaller ones) Overall though, I definitely recommend this place for cheap and delicious crab and shrimp! read more

I guess my friends and I have become regulars at this favorite spot for crab legs. Always suggest making a reservation because there is always a wait and frankly that's no fun. The young man working the front remembered us and asked us if we were celebrating anything, I said "its friday!" He even personally greeted my husband, I don't know his name but hopefully the staff from last night gets to see this. This place is lucky to have You! This place has been our go to spot for several years for crab legs. We've only seen their prices go up once over the years so that is a bonus. The only reason I am not giving this review 5 stars is because we ordered French fries that came out at the end of the meal, literally after my friends were done eating. When the waitress dropped it off she automatically apologized AND took it off my friends tab. No questions asked so kudos to her for taking care of us. She didn't make any excuses as to what happened. As for the food, were never let down and I love eating with my hands and throwing the shells on the table. During COVID-19 this restaurant handles seatings very well especially with following health and safety! My boyfriend and I understood if there would be a long wait time, but it was only a 20-25min wait. The employees were very kind and informational. We had to wait outside for sometime, even though my fiance's sister made reservations days before, but when we got inside we were anxious to eat. Cajun King is like your typical crab pot/seafood place, where everybody gets the bib and you order a few combos and then share. Unfortunately, I do have allergies to seafood so I did not get to indulge with them, so I ended up eating the Fried Catfish. It was quite tasty and was enough to satisfy my hungry belly! I ordered it with a side of the Cajun fries, and OMG the fries! Do not order regular fries, you must order CAJUN. The cajun fries are SO delicious, and it complimented the Fried Catfish so well. It had just the right kick, but was enough to not be too spicy for me to eat. This place has always been a favorite of mine. Great seafood boil without having to prep & clean. They have a HUGE variety of seafood to choose from if you're particular. But they also offer sets that include a different creatures from the sea like; lobster, snow crab, king crab, shrimp, mussels & clams. Their garlic butter sauce is a must but I do warn you, the saying "you are what you eat" will prove to be true. You'll end up smelling like garlic, but it's worth it. They have a friendly & efficient staff too! Out of 10+ times I've been here, there was only one minor error. Which was something to minuscule; our server forgot our extra sauce on the side. They have combos too but so far I've only tried their one pound of garlic shrimp Medium spice. I'm a super messy eater who needs a lot of rice but on a budget so I would order mines to go and enjoy all the unlimited rice I have at home! It was delicious. The downside is on Yelp the prices has not been updated. The King Crab combo we ordered online shows $68 and when I went to pick it up, she said the price is $89. I asked why the price is more and person I spoke to said they increased it. I asked if the price increase was bc they added more pieces? She said no.
