After nearly a decade living in Charlotte, my wife and I finally visited Cajun Queen. We both can't wait to go again. In fact, I think Cajun Queen might be one of the the haunts we take visitors while they are in town. We started with a half order of fried oysters. Delicious. For our entrees, my wife had the grilled Mahi-Mahi topped with crawfish sautéed with artichokes, sun-dried tomatoes, and scallions in a white wine, lemon butter sauce served over rice. I had the blackened catfish with the same crawfish topping with garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli. We both greatly enjoyed our dishes. I was almost deterred by recent reviews regarding seasoning of the dishes. My wife and I are accustomed to eating spicy food. I am pleased to report that spices happily danced on my tongue as I savored my catfish. To finish off our meal, we shared a slice of warm pecan piece. Delicious. The wonderful food was coupled with pleasant enough service. Our waitress waited a little too long to return to take our order, but once she did I was surprised by how quickly our food arrived. We enjoyed listening to the three-piece Gator Band (drums, upright bass, and piano) playing jazz tunes while we ate on the second floor of the converted house that is the Cajun Queen's home. We are already looking forward to our next visit.
My date and I thought this would be a good seafood spot to try, but honestly, it didn't live up to the hype. The biggest issue for us was the lack of seasoning. For my entrée, I ordered the blackened catfish with mashed potatoes and andouille sausage. The fish was pretty bland--I could taste the Cajun spice, but there wasn't much depth of flavor beyond that. The mashed potatoes, surprisingly, were the highlight--well-seasoned and delicious. The sausage was just okay, nothing special. For an appetizer, we got the Cajun popcorn (crawfish), and that was actually really good--well-seasoned and something we definitely enjoyed. I also had the New Orleans Iced Tea, but it had too much ice and ended up tasting watered down. My date didn't care much for their meal either and the lack of seasoning was bland too (even though I forgot exactly what they ordered), which says a lot about the overall experience. One thing to note: parking is rough, but they do offer valet. The valet attendant working Saturday night was very kind and did a great job handling everything on his own. There are definitely better seafood spots out there. This one just didn't hit the mark for us.
My friend and I were deciding whether to eat here or Kristy's Creole Kitchen. Kristy's had a longer wait time, but we were immediately able to secure a 730 pm reservation here, so we chose to eat here. My friend mentioned we had eaten here years ago on my last visit, but I had no recollection of it. The restaurant is very unique in that it's situated in what appears to be a former residential home turned into a restaurant. The street it's on is in a residential neighborhood and there were other restaurants on the street similarly also set up in former homes. They have free valet parking which was a plus. Once the car was parked, we headed inside and were seated near the back of the restaurant. It wasn't very busy for a Saturday night and they had a rotation of staff checking in, refilling water, and making sure we were good. Our primary waitress was very sweet and attentive. They had a pretty decent menu although I was unfairly comparing it to Kristy's Creole menu, and there were some items I had in mind to order that were on that menu, like turkey wings, but they didn't have them at Cajun Queen. They did have complimentary bread rolls to start, and those were pretty good, albeit a bit hard. I wish they were a bit softer. The three of us had seafood gumbo as an appetizer to start, and we all agreed that it lacked proper seasoning and was very watery. We doctored it up with some hot sauce and salt/pepper which made a difference. For entrees, I ordered the all three etoufee with shrimp, crawfish, and chicken on a bed of rice. It was pretty good and a decent portion size. I think I imagined it would have tasted differently, but I did finish my plate. My friend ordered the Bayou Platter and subbed out catfish for shrimp. Her plate looked really good, and I think if I came back I would order that. Her colleague had the New Orleans platter and that looked pretty good as well, although most of the items were fried. They both had enough on their plates to take home. Inside the restaurant itself was a bit more dated, but had a more relaxed and comfortable dining experience. I would say it was overall a nice experience. Not sure I'd come back again to dine, but think it's a viable option with affordable prices.
Super cute restaurant located in a house in Charlotte. I've driven by it plenty of times but never dined here. The hostesses are super friendly and greet you as soon as you come inside. We were seated downstairs and the seating is very intimate - you are able to dialogue with the people next to you. We came during restaurant week and I had the seafood gumbo to start. Very good, full of rice, seafood and veggies. Not too spicy but some kick. I had the blackened chicken and andouille sausage entree and it was delicious! The portion is rather large and enough to take home. The bourbon bread pudding is outstanding! Served warm with whipped cream, it was worth waiting for. If you're looking for Cajun food with live music, I highly recommend Cajun Queen.
I had the unique and amazing opportunity to be able to visit Cajun Queen in Charlotte and I was completely blown away! Even after going to New Orleans- I have to say this is the best Cajun Food I have ever had! We were able to get the bbq shrimp and rice, the Cajun pasta, garlic mashed potatoes, seafood gumbo and the pecan pie. Starting with the bbq shrimp- the sauce was so aromatic, spicy and savory and delicious. It was such a well tasting dish! The Cajun pasta had the best sauce I have ever had in a pasta (and I just recently come back from Italy) along with the perfect blacked chicken. Seafood gumbo blew me away with the flavor and spice, everything in it was so well blended together. The mashed potatoes were a perfect addition and balanced out the meal. The pecan pie was to die for, freshly made and perfect in every bite The ambience was even better, we got to see a live jazz band play and they did a stellar job in creating the vibe and adding to the already warm and homey aesthetic. Came here with friends for dinner. This was my first time going and was surprised to see that it was inside of a house! The waitresses were super attentive throughout the night and made sure our waters were filled the entire time. For an appetizer we ordered the BBQ shrimp and it was delicious! Loved dipping the bread they gave us in the sauce. For my entree I ordered the blackened chicken and substituted the rice for garlic mashed potatoes. The chicken could've used a little more seasoning but it was good!
I came to town for my Mother's birthday. My brother chose this very cool Cajun restaurant in large part because they have live music. The Jazz band was very talented and friendly. We were promptly seated for a reservation. The service was very attentive, friendly and fun. The atmosphere was very warm with a bit of Mardi Gras flare. They have a photo area upstairs near the bar where you can see historical fun memories going back to the restaurants origination. They use to have a Mardi Gras type festival, but unfortunately the city shut that down. We all ordered the same food with variations. I'm not a fan when that happens because I like to try all different foods; however, none of us were very impressed with our entrées as they were not flavorful enough. I don't recall ever having authentic Cajun food before this, but my understanding is Cajun is very flavorful and or spicy. My brothers ordered the Etouffee which is supposed to be hot & spicy. It was not! The bread that was served prior to dinner was dry, the fried oysters were very good crispy & tender, shrimp was cooked good but the flavor again was not there. I really hope they can find a chef that can get this Cajun food where it should be flavor wise. We had a great time and maybe there are other dishes that hit the mark. May try one more time on another visit.
We decided to revisit intimate rooftop dining here...but sadly, there were some disappointments this time. :( When we pulled up, we realized that there's no easy, free parking at the back of the house...instead a valet parking (only on weekends). Complimentary, but we still tipped (as is the norm). Not sure why the parking isn't allowed on weekends anymore?? Whatever the case, it's definitely not a plus. Luckily we were able to easily snag a good rooftop table right away, at 5:30 pm, Saturday night. First of all, I loved the Mocktail (though forgot the name)...and we loved the Cajun Popcorn appetizer! Possibly the best part of our dining experience? We also appreciated the complimentary bread roll. Then came all the issues. First, the entrees we ordered, the Crawfish Etouffee and the Crawfish Scampi, were way soupier, with seemingly less rice! Also, my dish was a MESS when delivered to our table. It was so runny, it just spilled right over! Just check out my pictures of the same Crawfish Scampi dishes (from today...and from 5 years ago)...and see the big difference!! The flavors of both dishes were really good still (very spicy too, without becoming inedible?) ...but again, just WAY TOO SOUPY (with its thin, runny roux, filled to the brim of the bowl). I actually hate soupy dishes (minus ramen, of course!), but this would have been an exception...as long as it came with more rice. We still love Cajun Queen...I mean, this is a great, landmark restaurant! However, things were just amiss this time. Super-sloppy delivery and presentation of our dishes...skimpy portion of rice (while being overly soupy!)...and there were more issues too. Like bringing us just forks...for rice dishes! (my major pet peeve lately!) Initially upon receiving our messy plates, I had to ask our waitress to bring us spoons, then wait. Unfortunately, she didn't revisit us 'til we nearly finished our meal...so I wasn't able to ask for more rice. BTW, our waitress was very personable and friendly, but she just got too busy as the night went on. Possibly not her fault...short-staffed, maybe? Then this... We felt there were one too many tables on the rooftop...whereas there were only 4 tables full (just like our last time). It would have been nicer if the tables were spaced apart more. Also, the overhead speakers weren't working, so no music on the rooftop. Also, there was the valet parking noises below. Overall, our rooftop dining experience was not that great this time. I hate to drop 2 stars since our last visit, but this was barely a 3-star dining experience this time. Hopefully I can upgrade the rating on our next visit...should things improve again.
Had a really good meal at Cajun Queen. If you're craving real-deal comfort food with bold flavor, this place delivers. Started with a bowl of gumbo and you could tell right away it was legit -- rich, smoky, and packed with flavor. Nice kick without being overpowering, and loaded with ingredients in every bite. For the entrée I went with the shrimp étouffée and it was excellent. The sauce was thick and flavorful, the shrimp were cooked perfectly, and the rice tied everything together. Super satisfying dish. The vibe is relaxed and cozy, service was friendly, and the whole experience just felt easy and enjoyable. Definitely a spot I'd come back to when I want solid Cajun food in Charlotte.
Cajun Queen was so good! I had heard good things about this place, so I was excited to try and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The decor and service were excellent. My shrimp and grits were good, but the blackened mahi was definitely the star of the show at our table. And the bread pudding!! Will definitely be back.
SO glad we finally made it in here!! Loved the ambience, it feels homey and comfortable in here. Waitress was so great at explaining the menu and specials, service was extremely fast. We didn't have a reservation on a Saturday but got sat right away. I ordered the shrimp and grits and husband got the rice/chicken. Flavor was really good, drinks are also great and reasonably priced.
What a neat hidden gem. Somehow, I've lived in Charlotte for 7 years and never came across this restaurant until now. It's such a cute spot being in an old historic house with an upstairs and a deck to eat outside. We went for restaurant week and I did not realize it was a Louisiana style menu. The restaurant week which came with a choice of beer or wine, complementary bread, an appetizer, an entree (which was big enough for 2 people), and dessert. I got the mahi mahi with shrimp on top and it came with mashed potatoes. The dish was so flavorful! I also got gumbo as an appetizer which I thought had a strong okra taste so it wasn't my favorite. For dessert I had key lime pie which was delicious! My husband got the Cajun pasta with chicken and the flavor was out of this world good with a little spice. Overall all the food the atmosphere was good!

Food was amazing. Shrimp and grits were phenomenal. I was so stuffed I couldn't never finish it all. Bread was so good and the vinaigrette on the salad was very tasty. I can't wait to come back again. Also, my bar tender was extremely nice and helpful. Setting was very cozy and there was a band playing while I was there. I definitely recommend. read more

Went here during restaurant week to try it out and WOW was I impressed! Upon walking in without a reservation (not like me to go anywhere without one), we were greeted by friendly faces and seated almost immediately by a server overhearing our wait time and saying she could fit us in her section! The restaurant week menu featured some really great options. What we got (all included in restaurant week deal): Beverages: Both wines (Oxford Landing Chardonnay Line 39 & Cabernet Sauvignon) First course: Creole Seafood Gumbo & Caesar Salad Entree: Etouffee and Diane (both with shrimp, crawfish & chicken!) Dessert: Bread Pudding & Key Lime Pie The portions of the food here are no joke either. I was stuffeddd! In the best way. And the SAs never let our water glasses even come close to half empty. I highly recommend visiting the Cajun Queen if you like cajun food and aren't afraid of a little spice!! read more

My group of 4 chose Cajun Queen because it is pretty close to Ovens Auditorium. They offer a Free valet service, however, it was not set up when we arrived (we easily found parking across the street). My group was seated in the far back room of the restaurant. While the room was nice and looked spacious enough for large groups or private parties, it was very hot and one of the air units wasn't working. The tables are a little small, but our waitress made sure to clear dirty dishes quickly so we had room. Nonetheless, the food and service were great. Our server provided great recommendations for food and drinks. I chose the popular New Orleans BBQ Shrimp and it was amazing! It definitely has a kick so be sure to grab a good drink. I don't think the prices were unreasonable for good-sized seafood plates. I look forward to going back. read more

I have been here twice. First time is for a birthday dinner and then for brunch. I made reservation because I thought it would've been slam. But To my surprise, it wasn't which is perfect.. I ordered Beignets with a raspberry sauce. 5/5 Soo good, crispy exterior but soft on the inside. Bourbon French toast 3/5. It's was good somewhat overly sweet and I couldn't taste the bourbon. Both of my friends said their food were somewhat good. I would say 3/5. The atmosphere is great. They were busy but not overly crowded. Coffe and mimosas were great. Overall I good experience with good customer service. read more
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Cajun Queen. I would have to make another visit, which I look forward to, because I went during Charlotte Restaurant Week and selected that menu. Service was great but it did feel a little rushed - I've come to expect that during restaurant week. Regardless, our server did her best to answer questions and make suggestions where we had some hesitancy. I appreciate the live band - That always makes the atmosphere feel a little more personal. The ambience is sweet and romantic. Too bad I went my homegirl and not bae! As soon as I get one, I'm going back! I also appreciated the decor of this converted house in Elizabeth. It has the neighborhood charm with the thrill of feeling as if you've slipped away to the French Quarter in New Orleans. Parking isn't impossible but it's easy to just do the complimentary valet. I made sure to tip the concierge before he retrieved my car (and I tipped extra because it snowed that night) and he made sure I received impeccable service in return. read more

Visiting Charlotte, we chose Cajun Queen because I wanted Chargrilled Oysters and Shrimp and Grits. We were looking at two different restaurants, but landed on CQ because their shrimp and grits looked better, despite my having to eat friend oysters vs chargrilled. Food: Food was amazing! Fried Oysters were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, as it should be. ;-) I thoroughly enjoyed them. I love fried green tomatos and they were okay, just could use some seasoning with the cornmeal (for this being a southern/cajun restaurant). My shrimp and grits were great, once I added some salt, but the red sauce on the side of the grits had great flavor and sooooo did the cajun shrimp! I sampled the shrimp etoufee was spicy and flavorful, you will not be disappointed. Drinks were good as well. Ambiance: It was very cute and gave Nola vibes. They have valet parking adjacent to the house/business. I didn't really get an opportunity to walk around and get a vibe about the establishment, but it definitely gave cute. Service: We felt slightly ignored at first, we hadn't received water or a hello for a while, but our server made it up to us and communicated why she hadn't beeen over... she thought we were expecting more ppl, since we were at a double table and she realized there were only 3 menus. Please have a reservation if you are planning on going here. I made a reservation for 9pm on a Saturday night, and I asked several times that we could do this because their hours are from 4:30pm-9pm on Saturdays. We utilized their complimentary valet and were seated immediately upon entering. The restaurant is a two story house, converted to a restaurant. The seating was very cozy near the fireplace but was a little more spacious where we were seated, in the sunroom towards the back. The three stars are for our server Candace and the perfect way she paced the meal. There is plenty of variety on their menu. We started with the Cajun popcorn and I ordered a Hurricane. The Hurricane has some kick, kudos. The Cajun popcorn, which is just fried crawfish tails, while tender, could have been fried a little longer but the remoulade that they came with it was very good. I ordered a cup of gumbo, interestingly, I have never had a tomato based gumbo. It was okay with a sneaky, spicy heat that built as you kept eating. I ordered the chicken, shrimp and crawfish étouffée and my guy ordered the Cajun pasta with added shrimp. This is where they could have seasoned a lot better. Labeling my étouffée as hot and spicy was totally accurate but it was not seasoned at all. My boyfriend had the same complaint with his pasta. While the chicken and added added blackened shrimp were very good, the sauce itself needed seasoning, not salt or pepper but Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, something. We were so disappointed. The only thing that tasted like what I expected was the bread pudding and half of my bread pudding had edges that I couldn't eat because they were too hard. I chalked that up to us bring some of the last people in the restaurant so that was probably the last leg of the bread pudding. Having come all the way from Greensboro, coming back isn't worth the drive. I hear brunch is better so give them a go for that and let me know how it is! read more

Visit NOLA without the flight lol. This place is great, food is delish and authentic, the live jazz 7 days a wk is a huge hit. Note if you want to be near the music, make sure you include that in your notes when making a reservation. I took my dad here for his 80th bday, he had never been before and he absolutely enjoyed himself. The band even sang happy bday to him. I had the blackened catfish and subbed out the mash potatoes for grits and it was amazing. Also tried the crawfish scampi and it had just the right amount of spice. They gave my dad his choice of dessert for his bday, he's not a big sweets eater but he tore that key lime pie up lol. All in all it was a great experience for him and was so glad he enjoyed himself. read more

My husband planned a casual date night and picked this place. We were pleasantly surprised by the complimentary valet parking service. Just takes the stress out. This restaurant looks quite popular - it was packed! I'm so glad my husband reserved an outdoor table for us. Indoor was way too crowded for our comfort in the current times. At first, staff wasn't very friendly or chatty - perhaps they are running short on staff, so they were heads down busy with their work. Nevertheless, we were seated at a very comfortable nice spot on the deck. We ordered a couple martinis, fried green tomatoes and seafood gumbo to start off with. Seafood gumbo was delicious - definitely fresh. Fried green tomatoes were perfect - crisp, well seasoned. For entrees we got chicken Étouffée and crawfish Diane. We absolutely loved every bite. Perfectly seasoned. Crawfish was so fresh and tasty. If you like the spice - ask for their hot sauce. Overall, delicious food! I'm not sure why we never tried this place before - but we sure to be back! read more

We had a great experience here. Our server was great and the food was too! We had the fried oysters and Cajun popcorn to start. Both good. Nicely seasoned. The star of the show for me was the special - seared duck breast with crawfish étouffée, crispy garlic potatoes, and vegetables. Duck was cook to medium rare and was perfect. PLEASE MAKE THIS A REGULAR MENU ITEM! The étouffée with chicken, shrimps, and crawfish was also yummy. You can however, skip the gumbo side item. It was a little lacking. Drinks were good. And it's a casual vibe, which I like. We had leftovers and it was even better the day after. read more
I honestly enjoyed Cajun queen the the service was great max was our waitress she was very nice. The food for me is always great i always get the same thing the special i choose salmon and the shrimp and mushroom sauce and mashed potatoes. We to watch as group the steak was rated a 8.4. The bayou platter was good but they felt the fish was a tad bland. But you should definitely try it. read more

Visiting old high school friends in Charlotte, I spotted this restaurant on Yelp. In the mood for Cajun, I convinced my friends that they had more than Cajun. So we made the trip through the downtown. Dinner hour was busy and parking, except for Valet, was scarce. But we arrived as someone was leaving and hopped in. Ambiance was great, Cajun appointments galore and even live music certain nights. We were seated quickly and drink orders taken. I was pleasantly surprised to find Fried Green Tomatoes on the menu, a must for this southern boy! I chose fried oysters & shrimp with a side of Crawfish Etouffee. I asked the server if it was really spicy or "Gringo Spicy"? He assured me he would make sure it was spicy. My wife got the Blackened Chicken with veggie stews, which included artichoke leaves and a side of Gumbo. My friend ordered the fried shrimp and his wife the shrimp scampi. Fried Green Tomatoes came with a side of Tomato Remoulade. They were crispy outside and tender inside - perfection we all shared. Then came the Gumbo and Etouffee. The Etouffee did not disappoint! It definitely had a great kick! My friends wife wanted to try a bite of Etouffee, so I shared a bite. After a hurried gulp of water she exclaimed 'Oh my gosh! HOW can you EAT that!!!' LOL! Not a spicy fan I guess. Imagine my friends wife's surprise when her Shrimp Scampi also had a (much milder) kick also! My wife thoroughly enjoyed her Blackened Chicken. My shrimp & oysters were also very good, no comparison to the Etouffee though. And my friend's shrimp were ravished by him. A great meal, definitely a must for Cajun lovers. The only drawback was slow service. It was a two and a half hour meal, a bit much. About 30 minutes between services. And my friend asked for a glass for his Corona bottle, finally coming 40 minutes later. The slow service takes away 1 star. Other than that the food had highest acclaims. read more

First time dining at Cajun Queen. Cute date night location. Recommend making a resy in advance and seating upstairs is the way to go (live jazz indoors and a great outdoor patio for something more quiet). Street parking is available after 6 PM which you can find on your own. They also have a valet service that's free of charge if you're looking to avoid the hassle. Asked the server for first-timer recs and here's what we ordered: Mahi Mahi Blackened with Shrimp Sauce Rating: 4/5 Safe option that's hard not to like; fish covered in a creamy sauce over potatoes; flavorful but not overpowering. Diane with Chicken, Shrimp, Crawfish Rating: 3/5 More adventurous option that wasn't super familiar to us in flavor; packed a punch with spices and had a kick; would skip the chicken and just go for the seafood options. read more

The food was really delicious with great flavor. We had the fried green tomatoes which the remoulade was what made it, duck special with crawfish étouffée, and a few martinis. The service was a bit slow, but we enjoyed the pace. Live music was wonderful and we did sit upstairs which was loud, but we could still hear one another. read more
Date night at Cajun Queen was a good time. Made a reservation for 7:15 on a Saturday. No place to park but there was complimentary valet parking. Staff was nice. We went to the upstairs bar while we waited ten minutes for our drink. Someone came and got us when our table was ready. We ordered the seafood gumbo. I wasn't a fan. Seemed too watery, flavor wasn't great and they used some low quality shrimp. I ordered the Etouffee with sausage, shrimp and chicken. Same low quality Shrimp but man the sauce and rice was soooo good. The right amount of spice. Sausage was great. Chicken was great. It was a really good dish. Would I go back. Yea probably. I'm not dying to go back but one day I'm sure I'll be in the mood for that etouffee again. If they would just switch the shrimp with larger and better quality shrimp it would make all the difference. read more

Tonight my boyfriend and I visited Cajun Queen for restaurant week and we were not disappointed. I stuck with the restaurant, week menu, and started out with the gumbo and a glass of Chardonnay. For my main entrée I got the grilled mahi with crawfish topping. My boyfriend got the BBQ shrimp and the house salad. Beware the BBQ shrimp is SPICY! It was so amazing but it was super spicy and I eat spicy regularly. The service was great from the beginning we were sat promptly and a plus was the jazz band that apparently plays every night. Finally had the chance to get over to Cajun Queen for my birthday and it was sooo worth the wait! Had a reservation but it was a Tuesday, so not crowded. Was greeted by our server, the wonderful Candace, who was on top of everything during our visit. The location is super cool as the restaurant is housed in a 100 year old house, with large separate seating rooms downstairs and the bar, live music, and more seating upstairs. Now for the food and drink. Got their famous BBQ shrimp for an app, which if you're not familiar with New Orleans style, you're in for a spicy treat. My wife had the very tasty Chicken Diane over rice (plenty to take home). I had the seared duck special over crawfish étouffée which came with some home fries style potatoes and sautéed veggies. Let me stop here because those potatoes were UNBELIEVABLE! They were like eating crispy pillows. The duck was very tasty and cooked perfectly. The étouffée was spiced right as were the veggies. Drinks were on point and well served. And if all this wasn't enough to bring you here, let me tell you about my free birthday dessert. It's not a dollop of ice cream with some chocolate sauce, I got to pick right from the menu; Bourbon Bread Pudding with caramel sauce. read more

Took my mother to cajun queen last night as we heard so many raving reviews about it. To start, our service was subpar. We felt she was not attentive and did leave us without items we asked for previously with our dishes. It was 4 of us and we only got 1 refill on our drinks. Also, if you SPLIT THE BILL there is an AUTOMATIC 18% gratuity. I do think that is unfair to the customer and the server. For a customer, Why is separating our meals on 2 tickets automatic gratuity ? This is probably the most work our server had did all night, which could be why our service was subpar. For the server, in her case was an advantage but for exceptional service, it's almost like they lose out. As for the catfish, I would give it a 7/10. I asked for mine to be extra crispy and fried hard. The breading of it was not attached to fish itself and it was as if i was eating the breading separately from the fish. However, I will say the breading was very tasty and seasoned well. I do wish they had more sides than what is offered. I also wish the sides had more "flavor". The broccoli was only steamed, no salt or pepper. The jazz music was great ! The band did phenomenal, i will say they played in small increments which is good because with a small space it can be overwhelming screaming over each other at dinner. read more

Great date night spot with delicious food and a unique ambiance! The drinks weren't our favorite but the food was delicious and service was excellent. Great authentic Cajun spot. I wish I could remember the name of our entree that was on the specials menu because it was fabulous. You MUST get the Andouille Sausage and BBQ Shrimp...excited to go back and try more! read more
Enjoyed a lovely group dinner at this quaint converted home. Everything was so fresh and delicious we were able to try just about everything on the menu from sharing many appetizers. Fried green tomatoes, bbq shrimp, crawfish scampi, fried oysters all delicious and enjoyed by our large group in our own private room. My entree was shrimp scampi with white rice and steamed broccoli and it was fresh, flavorful and delicious. I opted for the seafood gumbo for soup/salad choice with the entree. You won't be disappointed..this gumbo with dark roux was packed with flavor but not overpowering and not too spicy...it was just right! I will be back! read more
Service was adequate. Hadn't been to Cajun Queen in many years. Overall, the Crawfish Diane was good. Everyone enjoyed their meal. They're still popular, so I recommend making reservations in advance. Parking is inconvenient. You may be forced to valet, which is "complimentary". However, when we came out, our cars were parked right behind the building. So we had to walk past the cars in order to get the keys from valet, which is unusual. I'll return one day. Nothing outstanding, but everything was pretty good. read more
Came here for my MIL birthday. The restaurant is located close to downtown Charlotte. Outside there was seating along the patio that stretched from one end of the house to the other. The tables inside were spaced to meet the 6 ft social distancing practice. Order: chicken creole, duck breast, crawfish étouffée, blackened fish. Having been to New Orleans before, I was expecting the food to be extra seasoned (to put it nicely), however it was pleasantly the opposite. The food was good and the flavoring and aroma were on point but the food could use more salt. I definitely prefer under seasoned food than over seasoned any day!!! So I was very appreciative of that. The only plate that was seasoned nicely was the blackened fish. Overall the experience was nice and we enjoyed ourselves. read more

Tried this restaurant for a evening of celebration. Celebrate my aunt's birthday, my mom in town visiting, and me closing on my new home! Had reservations for 8:15 but still had to wait 15min for seating. Also parking is tight so consider doing the valet parking which is free but the people work for tips, so tip them well! Once our table was ready we were seated by the door. Noticed inside that the space was tight as well. There was also seating upstairs but did not venture up to see. Live music happens every night upstairs. Nice place for a date but would not consider for a large group due to spacing. The menu had variety in dishes to order. A full list of drinks, cocktails and food. I ordered the Diane entree with shrimp and crawfish. I have been wanting some crawfish for the longest so this was the perfect opportunity. My mother order the New Orleans BBQ shrimp and my aunt order the New Orleans Platter. All the food was so delicious that I didn't even have leftovers to take home. Well seasoned and great portion size. And since we were celebrating birthdays, my aunt got the Oreo cheesecake for her birthday. It was really good as well. Overall, this restaurant tapped into the Cajun Louisiana style food and environment. From the beads hanging from the ceiling to the live music upstairs. The Cajun Creole dishes and cocktails brought to whole experience together. Definitely consider trying this restaurant for the food and music! read more

I was born and raised in New Orleans and recently moved to Charlotte. I was missing home so I was willing to give this place a shot. I'm giving 2 stars because I enjoyed the ambiance and made me feel like I was home again. BUT once I tasted the food, it snapped me right back to reality. The French bread they served was not fresh. It was hard like when French bread has sat out for a day or two. We tried the bbq shrimp, red beans, shrimp etouffee, and blackened catfish. I have the same thing to say about all of it; the presentation was nice but so, so bland. My boyfriend said it all had the essence of Cajun food which I think is the best way to describe it. It tasted as Cajun as a LaCroix tastes like fruit. I don't even think salt was used on some of the dishes, especially the red beans. My catfish was mushy and inedible. Overall, I would maybe go back for the bar and live music but I will not be eating here again. read more

This is one of my new favorites! The food is fantastic. I've been her twice and both times, everything was excellent from service to food. I ordered the BBQ shrimp the first time and the shrimp and grits this evening. I had them leave off the andouille sausage and just add more shrimp. The Cajun popcorn is a must! My sister enjoyed her Mahi Mahi (I tried it and will order that next time). We couldn't believe how generous the portions were. We ordered desserts to go. Oreo cheesecake for her and I took home key lime pie. There is complimentary valet parking as well. Love the atmosphere and ambiance. That old house reminds me of the stately homes found in NOLA. Ask to sit upstairs if you want to enjoy live music. read more

My guy and I went here for date night. We ordered cocktails, margarita and a Long Island ice tea. The drinks weren't great, so we sent them back and he ordered the same drink and I ordered a hurricane. The drinks were tolerable... We ordered bbq shrimp as an appetizer. It was great. For dinner he ordered the blackened chicken and fish. It wasn't good... no seasoning. I ordered the shrimp ettoufee and it was bland as well. The service was top notch and we made a reservation. When we told the waitress we didn't like the drinks, she took them off and offered something else. The manager came around asking how things were. We didn't tell them we didn't like the food. We should have. They also have free valet parking, which was nice. read more

A must must must if you are in Charolette! My sister recommended this place for their shrimp and grits but the standout dish is the Diane. The perfect blend of Cajun spices with butter and garlic. I recommend ordering it with shrimp and crawfish. Very nice atmosphere and they even have valet parking out front. read more

The Cajun Queen was excellent. The outside was off putting as I had assumed the sitting space would be severely limited, but I was mistaken. Plenty of room for you and your guests. The table space for a two person party can be a bit limited but we butted a neighboring table against ours and it worked out fine. Parking is in the rear and just enough space to comfortably park in a sedan or standard suv. Our waiter was prompt and attentive, the silverware and glassware were spotless and the overall atmosphere was quiet and comfortable. Food was hot, seasoned extremely well and delivered promptly. We ordered a small bbq shrimp, a cup of seafood gumbo, the catfish platter and the crawfish étouffée. For drinks we had the Hurricane and the New Orleans iced tea. Everything met or exceeded expectations. I'd definitely return and bring friends read more

Do you have to make a reservation? Or can you just walk in?
Believe you can walk in but if you want to guarantee table especially at busier times I would recommend reservations as seating is limited and they do have spaces for large groups

Unlikely. We went on a Friday night recently, and the bartender said they'd suspended live music due to Covid.
What time does the Jazz music start on Saturday?
We arrived there at around 9ish in the evening and the Jazz was on the entire time till we left about an hour or so later
