I forgot to notate the coupon deal that enticed this visit, so my best guess is either a BOGO offer, or a buy one & get one discounted offer; I wanted to support local restaurants during lockdown so I wanted to give them a chance, & the signature menu listed chicken sandwiches that we both might like. When I called in, a friendly melodic male voice picked up & took my order. After I was done, he asked how did we hear about Calf & Chick, & I informed him it was their neighborhood flyer. With a 10-min. estimate, it was just enough driving time for my order to be ready. The restaurant is located around the corner from home, & sits behind Wendy's off of busy Sepulveda Blvd. & Pennsylvania Ave. Upon arrival, I waited another 10-mins. for my order. The cashier said strips & onion rings were still in the fryer & wanted to make sure they were hot. The spacious dining room was empty due to lockdown, but their phones were ringing & ringing for takeout. When my order was ready, I checked my bag to be sure that there were 4 items since I had infrequent expedite issues during lockdown. Everything was still warm when I settled home to eat. I had the panini... it was warm & savory, your taste buds hit particularly hard with the tasty garlic paste on a crusty roll. It was flavorful, however, the greens were old, & not from being pressed/toasted. My husband's Grill Chicken Sandwich was the same; it was a good sandwich that was tainted with old & wilted spring mix, & soggy sourdough due to condensation even though it was a short ride home. The chicken strips were pretty good, seasoned batter to give it a nice crust & juicy meat, but the last strip was on the thinner side so it was drier & tougher than the 2 thicker strips. The onion rings were somewhat bland, & the thicker rings were a bit raw & could use a few more seconds. Calf & Chick is a fast-casual restaurant that specializes in halal Mediterranean food & American-style breakfast; its menu consists of breakfast (eggs & omelettes, pancakes, crepes, & waffles), salads, sandwiches, sides, & pastries. I didn't get a picture of my daughter's beef sandwich AKA Philly Cheesesteak, the beef plate or the zucchini muffin. Sorry. The food is freshly made so it does take about 10 mins maybe even 15. But it comes out piping hot and fresh. The chicken was fried fresh, the beef for the sandwich was made right then as well as the chicken plate and beef kabab plate. We were grabbing dinner after tutoring and this hit the spot. More than anything I needed a coffee and their cappuccino with the zucchini muffin was what Mom needed after a crazy day. Honestly the best zucchini muffin I've ever had and I'm a pretty good baker. I know my muffins. lol. I'm excited to try their pastrami sandwich, brunch and more of their baked items. Food: ordered avocado toast (sourdough was tough, avocado was hard, eggs non-existent for $1.50 upcharge), sabrousek (cheese and black sesame - good enough for lentil soup), and lentil soup (highlight of the meal). Service: Good cuz it was my first time here. Not that busy. Ambiance: bathroom needed servicing (no paper towels or toilet paper). Eventhough there were only 2 customers, the trash bin was full to capacity (as I was throwing away my receipt). So not sure what that's about. Came here at 4:30pm yesterday (Saturday). The lady asked if I was dining in or taking it to go. I said we were dining in, and she goes, "we're closing at 5". I looked at my watch and said, "it's only 4:30", then she goes "I know, just letting you know". Her tone really set me off. She made us feel like we were bothering her just for dining in. While I was paying, she walked away and started chatting with the guy preparing another customer's order. I stood there waiting since she didn't give me a cup for my drink. She then started helping the guy finish up on that order and picked up three pieces of toast with her BARE HANDS! When she finally came back after handing the other customer her To Go order, she gave me my cup and receipt, and did so with an attitude. I was literally controlling myself and didn't want to make a scene as I was with my daughter. She walked to our table with our food and looked annoyed, didn't say anything, didn't ask if we need anything else, and walked away. To the owners, i'm not used to this kind of horrible service because you guys have always been great. My family comes here often and whenever you're there, you're always polite and welcoming. Don't let this worker ruin the reputation you've built. Also, you can get shut down by Public Health if someone files a complaint about your worker's unsanitary food preparation. There are other people out there who can do a much better job and not cost you your business than this lady. read more

I've ordered takeout dozens of times at this point and the food here is consistently good. Servers are always kind and prompt to offer assistance. As far as ambiance it seems nice but I only stay long enough to grab my bag and walk out. I will say the ambiance is not as nice as the ambiance that El Paso Cantina had on this same exact property for decades. I miss that place SO so much. Came here a few weeks ago due to a friend recommending it. It was hard to find because the signage wasn't great, it was hidden behind a fast food sign. Once we walked in, there were plenty of seats. The worker was warm and the establishment gave a friendly owned feel. They have a random selection of food- everything from Mediterranean like chicken plates, chicken sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, coffee and dessert. We tried a little bit of everything. Deeeliciousness! I've driven by this place many times and overlooked it until I saw an Elite's recent check in and review. On a weeknight evening the hubby and I were welcomed by the gal at the counter. I wanted to try the kebab plate and heard good things about the garlic sauce so I asked for an extra of that. The Mister chose the garlic chicken sandwich which is recommended by other yelpers. The tots accompanied as a side option. Most of my plate was amazing and fresh tasting except for the bread which was chewy. The garlic chicken sandwich was the star of our meals. This place was so good that I returned the next evening for a to-go order and was welcomed by the same gal who remembered me from before. Switched it up and got the kebab plate for the Mister and got the falafel plate for me which normally is accompanied by hummus but I opted for more garlic sauce. Another super tasty meal! This place took me by surprise - For the price and what you get, it's really reasonable and really good food. When you walk in there's a menu on their wall and you order at the cashier before sitting down. There's self serve water ($.99) and if you want a bigger cup, just ask for one and they'll give it to you. They offer breakfast - Omelets, Avocado Toast, Breakfast Sandwiches, Pancakes, Crepes, Oatmeal and some pastries. The prices range from about $6 to $10....that's really affordable in todays inflation ridden economy! For lunch options they offer salads and sandwiches - Vegan options are available and they range from $7 - $12, everything al a cart, but again, for today's prices, this is super affordable. Interestingly, they also offer these Mediterranean dishes - Kabab, Chicken, and Falafel plate. I think I got their Chicken Garlic Sandwich ($8.79) - It came with chunks of chicken that wasn't tough, tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, and this really good mayo spread on toasted bread. It was like a subway sandwich. And it was good! My husband got their Spicy Chicken ($8.79) - It came warm, and the sauce on the chicken was spicy! There was also something green inside and maybe peppers? I don't know what it was but my husband really liked his meal. The last thing we ordered was their Egg and Pancake Combo ($8.49) - The pancakes were fluffy, the eggs were cooked perfectly, and the strip of bacon looked like we got our money's worth lol. Both, healthy and indulgent options available. But the food itself was a little bit of an up and down ride. I came for dinner and ordered 2 piece kebbeh, a chickendilla, and beef shawarma to go. The beef kebbeh was fantastic and the highlight of the show. Fresh crispy outer shell, with well seasoned beef inside. Super tasty. The Chickendilla was a large pita stuffed with shredded chicken and garlic paste, served quesadilla style. Smart concept. Plenty of meat and spread. But it just seemed to be missing a little something...cucumbers / pickled veggies...something to balance the flavor and texture. Still decent. The beef shawarma was a total let down. I was excited because when I cracked the box, it looked fantastic. However, the meat was over seasoned with aromatics and it was full of fat. Literally every bite was fatty. And not melt in your mouth flavorful fat. It was chewy and unenjoyable. It was not a typical beef shawarma. It was essentially thick chopped fatty steak, instead of the thin shaved lean beef shawarma you find at most places. The rice, hummus, and salad were simple and serviceable. Overall, I would give this 3.5 stars if it were an option. Since that's not an option, they're doing enough right to warrant the round up to 4 stars. read more

The awesome garlic chicken sandwich meal is meant to be shared but I couldn't resist to try the 'new item' on the menu called TAWOUK CHICKEN rice plate. The only regret is I didn't take a picture! It's a complete meal and DELICIOUS with every bite. I love the salad, the hummus and toasty crunchy yet soft bread, the garlic dipping sauce for the chicken. I have always driven around Calf & Chick and always see nobody inside, however I saw that it had good reviews both on Yelp and Google. I see that they're a lot more popular for breakfast, but I decided to get some lunch to go. I ordered a tuna sandwich and fries for about $15. Their tuna sandwich tasted really good, but I did not like how hard biting into the bread was. Fries also seemed like the typical fries coming from the freezer. I would say the sandwiches were good but not worth it's price. Service was very good and the cashier recommended me different options to try as well as brought my order to the table I was sitting at. Again, it was very quiet and barely had anyone inside, but it felt like a cozy diner (especially with the cold weather and the heater inside the restaurant). My husband and I are regulars now at this place. We have both dined in and also done takeout. The food is consistent. Our go-to is their kebab plate. It comes with two kebabs that are so soft and flavorful, and their garlic sauce is so good!! The garlic flavor packs that perfect potent punch and reminds me of the one from Zankou. The plate also comes with rice, hummus, and salad. We have also tried their garlic chicken sandwich which is delicious! It has that same garlic sauce that comes with the kebab plate. They also have kids meal combos, various sandwiches, salads, Mediterranean plates, desserts, and coffee drinks. I've been eating here for many years. Some of my favorites are the egg sandwich and also the pancake combo. Recently, I've been hooked on the beef grill sandwich, lentil soup and cheesecake. These 3 items are solid. The sandwich is just like a cheese steak sandwich. You get the beef, grilled onions, grilled green bell peppers, mozzarella cheese and mayo. Torrance Food Crawl #399 The Calf and Chick Café is located behind the Wendy's on Sepulveda & Pennsylvania. You can't see the restaurant from Sepulveda, so just aim for the Wendy's and when you park in the back you'll see it. The menu is oriented to breakfast and lunch items. The Crepes were excellent. A light, slightly sweet batter makes all the crepes delicious. There are four choices for a crepe: Plain, Cheese Crepe with Zaatar Flavor, Crepe with Nutella and Bananas, or a Crepe with Strawberries and Blueberries. I'm not a fan of Nutella, so that one didn't go over so well with me, however, if you like Nutella, there is an abundance of it, on top and inside it. The Strawberry crepe was my favorite. The omelets were more average. These included Halal bacon and beef. Personally, I found that adding hot sauce to the omelets made them much more appealing. The breakfast Egg Sandwich was very filling. The large size was enough for two light eaters or one very hungry person. The meats here are Halal. On one occasion, I wasn't able to order something that happened to contain meat. Evidently, no Halal meat was available that day. I was told by one of the staff that sometimes they have had issues with Halal meat deliveries. I mention this because some places might 'cheat' about whether their meat is what they claim, but here they seem to be conscientious about their Halal practices. The restaurant has always been very clean and the service has always been excellent. I was initially going to give the Calf & Chick a 4-star rating, but I'm changing it to 5 stars because it deserves better as one of the few Halal restaurants in Torrance. read more

Came on a Saturday and found the place to be pretty empty (granted, it was at around 2pm after the lunch hour). Although this is a Mediterranean spot, they have a variety of brunch options as well so you'll be sure to find something for everyone. If you're not that hungry, they have a good selection of coffee and pastries/desserts such as banana bread, muffins, tiramisu, fruit tart, etc! - FOOD - Crepe with assorted berries and banana ($9) - Definitely an underrated item here! It's so simple, yet so delicious. Really can't go wrong with this one. The only thing I would request of the restaurant would be to use a lighter whipped cream (instead of a thicker, heavy whipped cream), but that's just my personal preference!! 5/5 Beef kabab ($13) - Generous amount of rice and beef. Hummus was amazing and the beef was well marinated. Loved the garlic sauce on the side! 5/5 Garlic chicken sandwich ($9) - Definitely has potential. This was my first time trying Calf & Chick in Torrance, CA. It's a relatively new chain for Mediterranean eats and American breakfast (eg, eggs, toast, coffee, English muffin sandwiches), has great and friendly customer service, and has great prices. The falafel sandwich was delicious. The vegetables were fresh and I like that it wasn't overly saucy because that makes the sandwich soggy. This item paired well with perfectly golden and crispy tater tots. Never had an avocado toast that had a cream cheese base but it was surprisingly a very good combination. The bread was perfectly toasted and I enjoyed the seasonings on top. It is a beautifully prepared and tasty menu item that you must try if you want something light. Accidentally came across Calf & Chick which is a newer place that I have never heard of and is located behind Wendy's. Calf & Chick specializes in breakfast and lunch items as they are only open until 3pm. You order and pay at the service counter and they bring the food that is made to order to you. The place was well kept and clean with a friendly and helpful staff. They also seem to follow the appropriate covid protocols as well. I ordered one of their specialty sandwich, the Garlic Chicken. It was a foot long and was fresh and quite flavorful from the garlic paste. They also grill the bread and serve it as a panini for that added crusty texture. It was definitely good and tasty. For an extra $3.00, the sandwich can come with fries and a bottled drink. For the amount of food they serve, prices were quite reasonable. Food came out relatively quick within 5- 8 minutes. Calf & Chick is a great find with an eclectic menu and certainly a great alternative to fast food Wendy's next door. I would certainly try their breakfast items the next time I am in the area. Calf & Chick is such a great, lively Mediterranean restaurant in the heart of Torrance. They use the best halal ingredients and provide a great atmosphere!  I tried a few different dishes such as their delicious Kebab and Chicken Plates, Tuna Sandwich and Banana Nutella Crepes for desert. My favorite had to be the Chicken Plate! Firstly, the presentation of the dish was very appealing, with the golden-brown chicken kebab placed on a bed of fluffy white rice, accompanied by a generous dollop of creamy hummus and a fresh, colorful salad. Upon tasting the chicken kebab, I was impressed by how well-marinated and flavorful the meat was. The rice was also cooked to perfection, with each grain separate and fluffy, making for a great pairing with the chicken. The hummus had a smooth and creamy texture, and the salad was a refreshing addition to the plate, with a combination of crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, and crunchy cucumbers. We saw the high star ratings, so we ordered delivery. Everything in the pictures on the menu looked pretty good but what we received wasn't quite the same. Salmon toast was decent. Although the picture shows capers, they were missing from our order. We've made something similar at home which was a few notches better. Grilled Beef Sandwich Didn't seem to have any green peppers or mozzarella. Kinda missing some stuff there. But it was still an ok sandwich. Beef Omelet The beef didn't match the picture. What we got was thinly sliced or shredded meat which seemed very close to the ground beef halal in the sandwich. Not quite what we anticipated. Butter and Maple Pancakes with banana and Nutella as an "Extra" but there was barely anything extra about 'em. Overall they too were decent though. We tried the Calf & Chick because there were so many high star reviews, so I'm a bit puzzled as to how it barely made a 3 star in my book. The only thing I can chalk it up to was maybe it was just a bad day. Overall the experience was okay but not quite worth the price. We'll see how it goes next time, should we try it again. read more

Honestly I didn't know what I was walking into. I saw breakfast and Mediterranean and I was intrigued. They executed both very well in my opinion. I'm quite impressed. The pancakes were fluffy and tasted great. The crepe had a good amount of strawberries. What I really liked a lot was the garlic chicken sandwich. You get a good amount of garlic taste and the chicken has a good amount of flavor. The kabob plate was also delicious and grilled to perfection. The falafel tasted fresh and was also yummy. I would definitely go back here. It looks nice on the inside and outside and the bathrooms are clean. The staff is very helpful and always keeping the place clean after every table is finished. This is quite a big cafe kinda spot which serves breakfast lunch and dinner and has quite a bunch of stuff on the menu from eggs to waffles to kebabs and whatnot. I tried the spicy chicken sandwich was quite nice , had a thick juicy piece of chicken breast and some veggies . The chicken plate is quite nice too , served with some salad , hummus and chicken breast pieces on rice. I liked the banana bread, not too sweet. Though many places opt for As (don't worry this place does have an A health grade :)) I am here to write about how Calf and Chick excels in the letter "C" in a good way ;). C for Clean! The first thing I noticed was the place was nice and clean. It was bright and neat looking. C for Croissants! I am always on the lookout for a good place for croissants and this place had some great croissants for only $2.99. Their croissants were big in size, flaky on the outside and buttery in taste. I am a fan and will be back here for their croissants C for Cinnamon buns! Another delightful pastry I got to try was their huge cinnamon buns! I was so surprised to see these big, sweet treats for also only $2.99. These were nice and sweet and perfect with my coffee. C for Coffee! Ahh yes coffee! I am a big coffee fan and was pleased to see Calf and Chick has regular coffee, lattes, cappuccinos and even flat whites! I chose to get a Vanilla latte for $3.49. The latte was freshly made by the barista and was served wonderfully fresh and hot. It was the perfect companion to my pastries. C for crazy for Calf & Chick. Sh*t these sandwiches! Check out the Hot Grilled Beef! So much melty cheese, and the beef is so good! It 's kind of like a cheesesteak except they made it with good meat. Try the Chicken Garlic too while you're at it. The chicken is perfect, but I just want a jar of those pickles - very unique flavor. Get the Egg Sandwich if you're feeling an entire plate of breakfast between two slices of bread. All three eggs have oozing yolks, and I like the texture of the turkey bacon. Don't pass on the pastries! Their Cinnamon Roll is easily the best I've had this year. Maybe ever. Calf and Chick is completely concealed behind a Wendy's with a drive-thru, but take the time to fine them. They really are worth a try, and after a try, I can't imagine they won't be on your list of go-tos. read more

Great place for breakfast, we've been here a few times. Very clean, calm atmosphere, plenty of parking. It was hard to find initially -- because it is behind the Wendy's on the corner. Avocado toast has cream cheese, herbs, avocado slices, drizzle of olive oil on crusty bread/toast that is not too thick. "Half size" is 1 slice (which is plenty for me) and "full size" is 2 slices. You have the option of adding an egg - over easy, over medium, over well, or sunny side up. Pancake and egg combo has 2 pancakes sprinkled with powdered sugar, bacon, and 2 eggs topped with shredded cheddar cheese. Eggs were cooked just as ordered. The bacon is either beef or turkey and tastes fine, it's more chewy than crispy, but it's because they don't serve pork here. You can get your own water at the self serve counter that also has your individually wrapped plastic utensils. Restrooms are in the back of the seating area. read more
