Great place for breakfast, we've been here a few times. Very clean, calm atmosphere, plenty of parking. It was hard to find initially -- because it is behind the Wendy's on the corner. Avocado toast has cream cheese, herbs, avocado slices, drizzle of olive oil on crusty bread/toast that is not too thick. "Half size" is 1 slice (which is plenty for me) and "full size" is 2 slices. You have the option of adding an egg - over easy, over medium, over well, or sunny side up. Pancake and egg combo has 2 pancakes sprinkled with powdered sugar, bacon, and 2 eggs topped with shredded cheddar cheese. Eggs were cooked just as ordered. The bacon is either beef or turkey and tastes fine, it's more chewy than crispy, but it's because they don't serve pork here. You can get your own water at the self serve counter that also has your individually wrapped plastic utensils. Restrooms are in the back of the seating area. read more

#takeout I asked da Hubs to pick up some sandwiches here. We ordered the Roast Beef and the Pastrami. I got to taste the Pastrami and it was really really delicious. The bread was soft and the pastrami was tender, flavorful and not fatty. It wasn't a huge mound of pastrami that you normally see but the portion was fair. My son and I both tried a sample of this. Who said you can't open up a good restaurant during the challenging covid times? Calf &u Chick is a new contender to the South Bay, located right next to the new Wendy's. And it just so happens today during my remote work from home lunch hour, I've decided to venture out to try something new. They had a wide variety of menu items, anything from waffles, crepes to salads and sweets. All I wanted was a good sandwich, something different. Something more comparable to the panini's from my good ol' undergrad days at Irvine. When I ordered from Calf & Chick I wasn't expecting much. It was serendipitous moment when I found the gooey mozzarella meld with the garlic and wild cucumber pickles. If you order this sandwich, definitely get it with the mozzarella cheese. It makes the sandwich that much more enjoyable. I also ordered a side of onion rings and they provided a sample of hummus. The onion rings had a hint of sweetness. The only issue here was the breaded crust was falling apart. If you can overlook the mess, the rings here are still excellent. Finally, they gave me a sample of their tart since they're newly opened. And the tart was actually good? I can't say that everywhere I go. I also saw that the croissants had the most beautiful textures and will return for that specifically. read more

You go to the counter, and place your order. If you are eating on the premises, staff will bring your order to you. The meal is served on a compostable plate--per trend nowadays. The dining room has a Swedish design--clean lines; minimalist aesthetics; big windows to allow natural light; a light color palate. It was a hot day, so I decided to go for something light. I chose the "garlic chicken sandwich combo" which included a side of fries, and a beverage ($10.99; tax $1.04; total = $12.03). The beverage was a bottled drink. Upon request, they will provide you with a cup, cap and ice. The fries were cooked well. (I was surprised. Sometimes the sides are an afterthought.) The sandwich was above average. The store bakes fresh bread on the premises, so the baguette used in the sandwich was warm and soft on the inside; there was a nice crust on the outside. The sandwich had chicken, tomato slices and shredded lettuce--with a bit of mayonnaise. The protein; vegetable; bread ratio was very good. The chopped chicken had a mild garlic flavor, but it didn't interfere with your ability to taste the chicken. Based on their current operating hours (07:00am to 03:00pm), it seems this place focuses on breakfast and lunch. I feel that the meals here utilize less heavily processed food. Stopped by this place for breakfast after a doctor's appointment, and we were very pleasantly surprised. I got the chicken sandwich and it turned out to be a panini which I love. The bread was nice and crunchy and the chicken was tender and well seasoned Mediterranean flavors. My wife got a fruit and berry crepe and she enjoyed it quite a bit. Very solid! I want to preface my review with that idea that we had gone here before a year or so ago and felt our experience wasn't great. Wasn't awful. I felt it wasn't worth reviewing. After hearing there might have been a management change, we decided to try it again today. We are glad we did! From the look of the menu, it looked like they shifted to more Mediterranean fare. Only one egg though. - they have an infused water dispenser The Not So Good: - while it was good the omelette was just a little bland. Inquired about the egg sandwich- found out the eggs were cooked in butter, but I asked if they could cook in oil and they said they could cook in olive oil! I'm always happy to see new halal places open up in Torrance. Love the fact that this is Mediterranean breakfast. They also offer bangin espresso, and various styles omelette! The interior of the restaurant is clean and there's plenty of parking outside which is shared with Wendy's. They are a breakfast spot so they do close a bit early. Also this is a good spot to go as a group as there are plenty of tables and seats available. The restaurant manager was also very polite and patient. I came with my entire family and pretty much sampled food on everyone's plate. I personally got myself the roast beef sandwich which is pretty much a Philly cheesesteak(9/10). Also the omelets, coffee, pastries were all decent. However, their Chicken Galric Signature sandwich was on another level. We ordered the banana Nutella crepe, avocado toast, and the breakfast sandwich. The crepe came out first so we started with dessert. The crepe was perfect with generous amounts of bananas and Nutella. The sandwich was great with delicious warm and crispy bread that is soft and fluffy on the inside with a good mount of eggs. Goes great with avocado toast which is a favorite there. Would really enjoy everything on the Avocado Toast added to the breakfast sandwich. The cafe is in a small plaza right next to a Wendy's with plenty of parking. Wasn't busy and great place for a quick coffee and breakfast or lunch. I always want small businesses to succeed so it's difficult to leave negative reviews. But I also depend on Yelp to surface great restaurants and feel it's important to share real world experiences. I believe this is a new establishment, so I'm hoping their management watches these reviews and folds the feedback into their processes. Successes: The staff are friendly and helpful. The restaurant is clean and has a lot of light. The bathroom is clean. Parking is convenient. Cons: Branding disconnect I think some of my experience was a disconnect between the branding and the experience. The logo and restaurant styling looks great. But the food fell short of where the branding set my expectations. Cons: Flavor We ordered two sandwiches (roast beef and pastrami). Both were flavorless. I added my own salt and pepper, and that helped a lot. Otherwise, I could find no seasoning at all. I'm not sure how meat can be flavorless but both sandwiches were. And the only sauce was mayo, so there was no acid/flavor to make the sandwich interesting. Additionally, the sandwiches were on the dry side. Cons: Lack of care The pastrami sandwich I had was cut in half, which is fine, but they cut it in the paper, leaving aluminum paper strips in the sandwich. They are very obvious and weren't picked out or cut off. Cons: Extremely cold I tend to feel cold in businesses anyway, but it was extremely cold in the restaurant. I believe raising this a bit could ensure the broadest comfort from patrons and probably save some on electricity bill as well. Recommendation for management: Perhaps this business' specialty is breakfast crepes and coffee. They have a very expensive coffee machine. If so, they are doing themselves a disservice by offering food out of their area of expertise when it's not done well. If sandwiches are part of the overall strategy, get some help here. Bring up the flavor through better use of fat, acid and spices. Owning a restaurant isn't easy. Best of luck! read more
