came here last night with friends and tried out their dine out long beach menu! for $45 you get one panipuri, one app, one main course, and dessert. i got the butter chicken wings for the appetizer, the filet mignon for main, and kulfi for dessert. we also each got a basket of everything was sooo flavorful. great spot for date night and would definitely come back to try more dishes! read more

HORRIBLE! The take out was so skimpy! Take a look at the photos..3 lousy and tiny lamb chops for $35 shouldn't be served for an appetizer. Next, was the Beef Short ribs and it was swimming in grease and had a large chunk of fat was just floating around and for $26.62 it was not worth the price! We have to go out and get other food since this left us still famished! Flavor was ok, but the portions for over $75 bill is heinous! The food was absolutely delicious. So delicious in fact that all of us kept looking around and asking ourselves how come there are a few tables without patrons in it? I mean, it was Saturday evening, the place should be buzzing because of the extraordinary food. But there were one to three tables open all throughout the evening. Just so you know, this is not the typical Indian food you get at most Indian restaurants. Rather it is Indian food REIMAGINED by a Michelin chef. You'd normally expect such a restaurant to be in Los Angeles proper or even in NYC, so the only thing explaining why it wasn't buzzing with patrons is it's in good old Long Beach. You don't normally associate Long Beach with avant-garde food. Not only was the food just great, so was the ambiance, and even the service. Manass was very helpful, very attentive and just a delight. Walking inside, the outside does not match the inside. It's pretty cool how much nicer it is inside. The outside looks so unassuming. The bar looks really nice and just the general atmosphere is more upscale than you would think. We tried 3 dishes and they were all excellent. The butter chicken pot pie goes very well with the biriyani. But the biriyani does have a slight kick to it. I took down one star because service is mid. Not bad. Not good. Super disappointing. I have been following on social media for a while and fell in love from a far. I waited a while to try this place, I wanted to celebrate something with a meal here. So when I finally had something to celebrate, it was time. Got all the stuff I have been seeing on instagram and got down. It was OKAY at best, very very underwhelming. Bland tastes on some, and way too much spice, very overwhelming, and yes I am a fan of spicy Indian food. On the togo packaging they boasted their Michelin status, which struck a weird chord that they had so much stuff with the Michelin status on it, everything was about the Michelin star, so I dug. It seems that the chef who got the star is in Mumbai for most of his time and not in Long Beach. I am curious if thats the difference. Maybe I was too hyped on this place, maybe it just wasn't what I was expecting, whatever it was, this one just missed the mark for me. read more

I even showed them my screen of having a spot the list and an estimated wait time, they were dismissive and only accepts reservations. Great food! We usually get their old fashioned tikka, butter chicken, biryani, or one of the 2 dals they have on the menu. All quite delicious! Service is always great and the vibes in the restaurant are nice! Tonight was my second time dining here and like the time before, it was amazing! My cousin and I enjoyed our time here in three courses. For our first course we ordered the calamari, garlic naan bread and the pan puri poppers. The calamari had green beans mixed in which was a great addition. The garlic naan bread had extra garlic in it which we both loved! The pan puri poppers were a fun time and each flavor was delicious. They were definitely a good one for the gram like our server said! Our second course consisted of the truffle chicken, butter chicken pot pie and the lobster moilee. The truffle chicken was super tender and the truffle flavor wasn't overwhelming like it can be at times. The chicken pot pie was light, fluffy, and had a little spice to it that was delectable. What really stole the meal was the lobster moilee. This may be my favorite dish in Long Beach. I've worked in restaurants for ten years. I currently work at a seafood restaurant. This lobster is the best lobster dish that I have ever had. No other restaurant rivals the size of the lobster tail, I don't even know where to find one this large! The coconut curry was light and so bomb. I could eat it like soup. For dessert we enjoyed the chai tiramisu and death by chocolate. The chai tiramisu was a great repair on traditional tiramisu with a light cream mixture. The death by chocolate was flowing with a hot hot cholesterol fudge filling. Both came with fresh fruit. Our server was great too, but I unfortunately can't remember his name. He was very helpful in explaining to my cousin the menu and with his suggestions. I've hit up Cali Chili twice in the last three months. I love many things about them, but am a little disappointed with a few others. I love their Butter Chicken Pot Pie. It's just delicious and such a wonderful presentation. The Garlic and Cheese Kulcha is so, so tasty and a must! I enjoyed the Pani Puri Poppers (we had the chicken); they were very original and just lovely. I thought the Pan Seared Salmon was incredible. I just loved it. My friends thought it was too crispy. I liked the crispiness on the outside and the moist, delicious center. We all loved the Cauliflower Fritters... in fact, it was my friends' favorite dish. I had he Mango Passion Fruit Rose Lassi both visits... just wonderful. The disappointments were the Lobster Moilee, as it was overcooked. The server offered to bring out another one but we did not want to wait around so she kindly took it off of our check. It was a Saturday night and very busy but I was really bummed because I was looking forward to trying it. The Dum Biryani lamb shank was very, very fatty, and we did not finish that either. Mixed feelings on the service. The first visit they were just great all around. The second visit our server did not seem to know the wines very well. And she was a little distracted. Again it was a very busy Saturday night so that could explain some of it. But she did not hesitate in removing the lobster dish from our bill, which I greatly appreciated. I will absolutely return because I want to try the Saag Paneer, which is an Indian dish that I just truly love and I want to taste their version... and because I have to have some more of their Kulcha. There are other dishes on the menu that I'd like to explore as well. The space is lovely... a cool mix of modern and art deco. read more

My wife and I came here for a date night with a later reservation at 0845. We arrived early and were offered a seat at the bar while we wait. We enjoyed the service and drinks at the bar so much that we let our table go to another couple. This place is such a hidden gem and so refreshing to see a restaurant like this in a sleepy part of town. It's not just craft cocktails and ambience, the food is hands down one of the best meals I have had, and by far the best Indian food I have ever had. Came in for the dineLA menu, what a great deal for lunch! You get to pick 3 entrees from the two main courses and it comes with the dessert as well. I got the smokey chicken wings, Cali sticky ribs, and lamb korma with garlic naan. My favorite was the lamb korma, such tender meat, and it went so well with the naan. Chicken wings had a great smokey flavor and were a good size. Ribs were a little dry, but had a good flavor. Overall, this is a fantastic value for lunch - delicious, good portion sizes, and a nice variety of choices with the dineLA options. The keyword when you come here is to remember that it's an UNAUTHENTIC Indian fusion place. Once you remember that, your experience will be wayyyy more fun. Came back to check on us often enough and make sure we had water and everything was okay. He was great. Anyway the place is really pretty, the bar is beautiful. If you can get seated at one of the nooks in the front it'll be a little more intimate. We felt a little removed from everyone else which I liked. The music is upbeat but on the louder side. Good for a date. Not too loud but not quiet. We started off with mango lassi. Cute tall skinny glasses. I loved it. It was a sweet and creamy mango drink. Reminded me a little bit of yogurt. Garlic and cheese kulcha came out next. It was Cheesy fluffy with a little tang. Cauliflower fritters were fried crisp. The Sambal aioli added a little kick in terms of spice but was also creamy at the same time. Fun combination of flavors. Truffle chicken tikka was tender AF when stabbed with fork. It was tender, creamy and cheesy. Didn't really remind me of Indian food but remember it's an unauthentic Indian fusion place. The lamb dum Biryani was the star of the show. You can pick different meats but I picked lamb. The bowl is covered a bread layer sprinkled with sesame and its baked that way. When it's brough tot he travel the server cuts off the read too and mixes the rice and and meat in the bowl. The bowl is oven hot so be careful. The bread top is set aside on the plate for you to enjoy and you can serve yourself the biryani. Since we got the lamb it came with a while lamb bone with eat attached that the server mixed into the rice. It was so good! The lamb and tendons were tender. The biryani itself was spicy but it comes with a bowl of raita taro add which really helps with the spice. It felt like the bread part was not necessary. If it's to seal in the moisture for the rice that's fine, but it think it's part of show of the mixing of the rice. It was nice and fun but I didn't care for the bread. Biryani was fire though. Chai tiramisu was for dessert. It was okay. Good if you like chai. The cake layers are infused with chai then layered with cream. Truly fusion dessert here but not for me. The bet tries were the best part for me here. I had a lot of fun here and I'm definitely coming back. read more

This review is for some time around October/November: I don't remember exactly how the food experience went because we ordered a bit of everything and shared. What I do remember is that our party of 6 enjoyed it. Great staff, delicious food and a very cool ambience. We hit the restaurant during peak dinner times but good thing we made reservations! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. One small thing, my cocktail was ordered and almost forgotten for around 20 minutes and by the time it did reach me, it got a little watered down. Last night was the last time here. Had reservations at 7 pm. Arrived with friends we were excited to share this restaurant with them. Well got there and we could expect to wait 45 - 1 hour to wait. Why request reservations and then not honor them. Enough. This is the problem with them. Time to figure out where the error is. We took our money and headed out. Had a great meal and the restaurant we went to got to have to 200.00 we spent. Third time was not a charm for us. Good luck to them and not the way for a newer restaurant should expect to succeed. Here's a idea. You had my number could have called and gave us the option to arrive a little later. Bad business model. The menu said "unauthentic Indian food" and we almost left. Thank the gods, old and new, that we didn't. This place did NOT disappoint. We had the short rib, butter chicken pot pie, saffron rice and garlic naan...everything was delicious. All the flavors were rich and savory. Our server, Tyler, was wonderful. The atmosphere is in modern but warm and the restrooms are clean. The kitchen is visible and even the chefs seemed to be enjoying themselves. I went to Cali Chilli for my birthday dinner. My husband and son accompanied me. I had looked at the menu previously and been intrigued. Since we were all super hungry we started with the Calamari French Beans and the Garden Citrus Salad. The calamari and green beans were good but nothing special but the lime aioli that came with it for dipping was deliciously different from the usual dips. The Citrus salad was very yummy with a light dressing and lots of different berries and greens. We enjoyed it thoroughly. For our main foods we chose Butter Chicken Pot Pie, Vegetable Dum Bitiyani, Gilafi Seekh Kabab, and Garlic and Cheese Kulcha. We had never had butter chicken served in a pot pie but it was not only lovely to look at but really tasty with the puff pastry that came on top. The vegetable biriyani was spicy and good but it also came with a pastry covering the top of the casserole dish it was served in. We had no idea what the waitress had brought us until she cut it open! The gilafi was made with spiced ground lamb formed into log shapes and very different than any we'd had. The spices were strong but different from the other foods so the meat contrasted with the other flavors we were enjoying. My guys are big eaters but we still had plenty of leftovers to take home and they wanted every savory bite. We can't wait to go back and try other things. My husband liked his shot of Indian gin too. I tasted it but my Purple Rain was more my style with a little sweetness to go with the gin. In addition, unknown to me, my son had told the waitress it was my birthday and they brought us a complimentary pistachio saffron ice cream to share. The decorations on the plate were absolutely beautiful and tasted so good with the exquisite molded ice cream in the center! I never would have ordered it myself but I'm really glad we had it and would do so again. The food was pretty good, though not close to the Michelin-star level I expected from reading reviews. The Pani Puri Shooters were kind of boring. The various "waters" were ok but none had much spice or any real zing. The little crunchies with potato inside were somewhat flavorless too. Pani Puri at places in Little India are way better. The main dishes we got were Butter Chicken Pot Pie and the Pork Ribs with Saffron Rice and Garlic and Chive Nan on the side. The main dishes were good but the sauces didn't sparkle. The Saffron Rice was merely yellow. The nan was about what you would expect. The worst part of the experience was the service. We happened to be the first customers through the door at the start of their 5 pm dinner service. All the tables but ours was empty but they were quickly filled. Someone took our drink order and gave us menus. After that, no one came to our table! Everyone all around us had a server at their table and had their food orders taken. Some were even getting their appetizers delivered! When I complained to a passing server, she apologized in a perfunctory manner. And then she said "Are you ready to order or do you need a few minutes?" This two seconds after my complaint that everyone but us was being served. What a clueless server!
