Food was really good and the lady was super sweet. I ordered the chicken Alfredo and wanted to add shrimp but she told me I should just order the shrimp Alfredo and add chicken as the price that way would be probably 5-6 dollars less. We were on or way to the Parks and stopped here for dinner. When we walked in, it was a bit disconcerting to see the place was empty but I am so glad we stayed. I ordered the fish in a spicy Robert sauce and it was absolutely delicious. My partner had the nachos, which I noted were served with real homemade guacamole. We just left this place and it was GREAT! I'm so glad we found good Italian/American food locally. We also drive to Fresno to get this kind of quality food & now we have it in Madera as well. I'm glad we got there today (Friday) at 5pm because right after us people kept coming in and it got full quick. We ordered the Friday Special; All U can Eat Fish & Chips & the Cajun Shrimp Penne. Both entrees where delicious. Like another yelper yelped about the fish being lightly battered and great tasting- TRUE the Cajun pasta with 6 shrimp were delicious. The sauce was spicy & the shrimp was not over cooked. The bread on the side was also good. I will definitely recommend this place to everyone. The waitress also said they've been open for 2 years and we just heard about it today through YELP. CALIFORNIA GRILL needs to promote more on social media and invest more on a banner of some sort to advertise the restaurant outside their establishment more so the public can see it better. Only negative comment is the soda can ($1.50) for drinks instead of fountain drinks. Hopefully in the near future you'll be able to get fountain drinks instead of a can. With the types of dishes your serving a can of soda doesn't really look good with the food. Also GREAT JOB to the (only) waitress that was there handling a packed restaurant & the cooks for the great food. We paid: $30+tip & left really full. We will definitely be returning soon. read more

The first time we tried this place was when restaurants were only allowed to pick up and the food was so good we had to come back. So we waited until we were allowed back inside and the ambiance and absolute warmth that comes from the staff here as well as the GREAT FOOD is beyond 5 stars. California Grill is new to the area. There was another restaurant at this location, the new owner changed the name and kept most of the previous menu. The restaurant is on the small side. This restaurant is kept clean and the staff are super friendly. You can tell the staff appreciates the customer's. The menu has things like pasta dishes, sandwiches, burgers, salads etc. I believe on a certain day/night the restaurant offers all you can eat fish and chips too. There is only parking on the street in front, there might be in back of the restaurant too but I am not sure about that. The area is a lil bleak but the Madera Revitalization Counsel is working with these downtown businesses to make the area nicer, which is a big plus because downtown needs it. The food I have had here has been pretty good nothing to set it apart from the usual though. I would like to see some kind of a spin put on a regular dish to make it wow me (the customer), none of the food has wowed me here yet. I believe if more businesses in Madera would stray away from the norm that they would draw more customers that are looking for something different. Fish and Chips on Friday 12.99 all you can eat. They put so much on the plate the first go around you can't finish it. Just as my boyfriend was bottoming out a gentleman came in from the back and brought him another plate of fresh fish. I sneaked a piece and I would go so far as to say that the fish and chips is just as good if not better as what I've had in the bay area. Spaghetti and meatballs was pretty good. The sauce was very flavorful and had fresh garlic in it which is a must if you really like Italian food. Their garlic french toast is yummy. So much that I just had to order another side of it. :) I really can't say anything bad about the food. It's really good quality and very reasonable prices. I have a sneaking suspicion that everything on the menu is good, but I guess I will have to keep ordering to find out. As far as the service goes the waitress is great. We came earlier this time right as dinnertime started and the restaurant was full. She promptly fulfilled all of our requests even though she was the only waitress.
