Over the past few weeks, I have gone to Calypso Cafe and have been extremely pleased with the friendly service, great food and even better prices! I happen to go there for lunch only to discover Tues-Thurs they have authentic Mexican food! What a find! The Kebobs and dinner fare is delicious - glass of wine and I was all set - my date was very impressed as well. I recommend this wonderful find among the beautiful boats and yacht club for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a great glass of wine with an appetizer. read more

My wife and I just found this restaurant today for breakfast and had such a wonderful breakfast (pancakes and ham for me, bacon and eggs for her with sides of potatoes for both) that we went back for supper where I had chicken with pasta and a buttery sauce and my wife had lasagna. This place has charm, both indoor and outdoor sitting, a lady who runs it that obviously understands how to make GREAT food, a friendly atmosphere and some of the best food that both my wife and I, who are foodies by nature, very much loved. The cafe is also a deli and small grocery store, close to a nice bike path, and will be something that we will look forward to coming to any time we are down in San Diego. Do yourself a favor and visit it if you can. read more

Tuck in the Coronado Cays community this is a great little spot for breakfast-lunch & dinner. Reasonably priced, excellent quality with very good selection of beer & wine. Small menu but has all the bases covered: chix, fish, meat, pasta & veg. One of the few places you can dock your boat and dine ashore. They have music on Friday & Saturday nights. read more

We read about this place on Yelp and for sure we're not disappointed! The atmosphere is cool and casual and we LOVED the patio. Views of great homes, boats, and bay! We really liked this place... Super laid back vibe, just ordered grabbed our own coffee and sat outside and enjoyed the weather. The service could have been a tad better but it wasn't horrible by any means. We will def go back when we are in the area again read more

Came here for the view, reviews seemed promising but we were very disappointed with our breakfast. Everything tasted "eh", I order the lox bagel and they brought it to me without the lox and the presentation was sloppy. Hubby had the special and couldn't understand why it was more expensive than the Big plate because it came with more food. We left annoyed and unsatisfied. If you're looking for a quiet breakfast and a relaxing view, go for it. But if you're looking for yummy food and an overall good experience, I'd suggest going else where. read more

Every time we have been here the owner couldn't have been more warm and welcoming. And the food.... just delicious!!! Super fresh and fast! This cafe is worth the 15 minute drive from the village. Plenty of parking, indoor and outdoor seating. If you have little ones, picking out a new drink to dry (e.g., cherry limeade!) is super fun and they have a broad range of bottled beer and wines for the adults. read more

Great ,tranquil spot overlooking coronado cays waterway, to stop and eat. Owner and staff friendly,and served us even though they were closing. We ride bikes down from Hotel Del area and r glad to have alternate to grab a bite,as opposed to more expensive hotel nearby. read more

Glad we found the Calypo Cafe. We had a great breakfast that was very reasonably priced. We sat on the back patio that overlooked the marina. It was perfect! We spoke to the owner and learned that she is expanding, which is great to hear! We will definitely go back! read more

After reading such high and low reviews of this place I decided to find out for myself. My husband and I stopped in this morning for breakfast. We will be back. We had a great experience. Parking was ample (and free) which is often hard to find in Coronado. It's a charming cafe with lovely seating outdoors overlooking the beautiful bay and boats of the Cays homeowners. Service was very good, we each had an omelet (the Greek and Meat Lovers)and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The server and owner couldn't have been nicer. I'm a Cays local and I am biased... However, for the money, the location plus the good simple food and the decent beverage selection make this place a must. The owner is fantastic and she works hard to make sure you are satisfied with whatever you order. My family loves this place... Big fan of the Coronado Club sandwich on sourdough coupled with a Franziskaner... Locals enjoy. Silver Strand beachgoers enjoy. IB or Village, take a trip down to the Cays sometime... sitting by the yachts with good food and drink is not a bad way to spend some time. read more

This place is a diamond in the rough! We live close by and we are remodeling our kitchen and have eaten there several times--breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The menu offers an interesting variety of well-prepared options. We've tried several of them. Every one has been delicious. Never disappointing. We dine out often but value having an option close by. And the owner and staff has been very friendly and responsive. I know everyone has different tastes and standards but reading some of the other negative reviews makes me wonder about motives. Based on my experiences I will remain a regular Calypso Cafe customer. read more

This is a really great little café! I discovered it on a bike ride, and it has very delicious food and a nice location. The burgers are delicious, and they're paired with great fries with good seasoning. The service is also great, all the employees were very nice and didn't hesitate to help us out. I MUST agree with Steven P. below for his reiew 3 months ago, and verbatim as well as I too hate to have to give a bad review to such a small place that is going to probably suffer from this review but at the same time, I have to be honest as I always am with my reviews. We came here a little past breakfast time, more for a brunch time and found the place deserted... Of staff as well as customers. We stood at the front door for about 5 minutes before I started saying, "Hello?" It took me at least 5 of those with me finally raising my voice to a boom before the waitress came from behind the wall (I assume from the kitchen) to bring us to a table. She asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside and we chose outside since it was such a beautiful morning but before we reached the door, she said, "sit where ever you like, I'll go get you some menu's, which should have been in her hand when we were seated. The table choice was slim and the table looked dirty. When she arrived, my wife asked her if she could wipe it down, which she did but would have saved herself the trouble if she just admitted that the table was just stained and the wiping did nothing. Struggling or not, if a table looks dirty, people are not going to want to sit at it even if it is just stained so go buy a new one already! My son and I each ordered a breakfast that came with eggs and we both, as always ordered our eggs over medium which simply means we want the yolks runny but the whites completely cooked and NOT runny! They came out and, you guessed it, runny whites. The potatoes were tasty, a sure sign of some kind of talent in the kitchen and the ham steak was fairly thick but not very flavorful. My son adored the salsa, I thought it tasty but nothing outstanding. The bottom line here is that we came here based on the reviews here on Yelp so either they came during prime time and the service and food is better then or each high review is a friend trying to save this run down hole in the wall. I am also going to do something I never do which is to make a recommendation to the owner if he/she even bothers reading these... Buy some new tables and chairs and stop being so cheap by leaving the stained ones there, it is a HUGE turnoff for first impressions. Keep the cook, fire the waitress and work on the little things. This place can be great if they spend a little time and put in a little more love. The cook has a talent and would love to see him/her strut their stuff. If they do, I will come back and give it another go. read more

Wow, some of these comments are just flat out ugly and just unreal. I am from Michigan, my fiancee and I were visiting Silver Strand and wanted some lunch, we did a quick search and Calypso's was the first that popped up, so we gave it a shot. And am I glad we did... I ordered the Coronado Club, and my Fiancee ordered the Gyro and we shared a order of fries.. we both we're very very pleased and satisfied. The food was as fresh as fresh can get, and I can say that my sandwich was the best sandwich I have ever had... period! The service was fantastic, food made fresh and delivered to our table with exceptional timing, oh and super yummy complimentary right-out-of-the-oven chocolate chip cookies too top it off!! I highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone, in the area or not. This place is worth visiting. 5 Stars all the way!!! Thank you again for such great food and great service :) We will definitely be back for another visit before going back to Michigan!!! read more
