I came here on July 32st for lunch. My former driving instructor treated me for lunch as I never tried Cantonese BBQ. She promised she'll treat me once I pass my road test so we went out to celebrate this moment together. Because this restaurant was filled with seats, both of us weren't happy with seating since we had to face the wall where the fish tank was located. Anyways, We ordered 3 BBQ Items with rice ($20.95) and Tofu Skin Pea Tips ($13.95). We had Pork belly, Soy chicken and BBQ pork for the 3 items. I was told the owner is from Guangdong and he knows how to make good BBQ. Complimentary soup was the first thing that arrive. Later our 2 dishes started coming out. Pork belly had a crispy skin with tender meat on the inside. Soy chicken was tender with some marinades. BBQ pork was not bad. Pea tips were nice dish to go with meats. It was tasty. I felt thankful for my driving instructor to bring me here to explore Cantonese BBQ. I loved the hearty portion of food along with free soup. Loved the taste of the soup as well. There's usually a line up for roast duck, roast pork, bbq and steamed chicken here. The bbq pork was not as tender but flavourful and on the sweeter side. The roast pork was delightfully tender and not too fatty. Overall for about 1/2 lb of cha siu and 1/2 lb of roast pork it came up to $20. Haven't eaten here for a while, mostly get the bbq pork or roast pork to take home. Around dinner time, you will see a line up of people getting the bbq pork, roast pork, duck, etc to take home. These are really good and tasty. Finally decided to sit down with family to have an early dinner. The dishes are a good size, it comes out pretty quick and We got the pea tips with garlic, bbq duck, and beef & green bean in black bean sauce. The duck was flavorful, tender and perfectly done. The beef was very tender and the black bean sauce wasn't overpowering so the right amount for the dish. The pea tips was good but a little crunchy so maybe not as cooked as I would like it. The other arm of this restaurant, especially if you like the Richmond one, I would still say that one is better, but for the area, if you want BBQ meats, they have got you covered. They have all your Cantonese BBQ favorites, from char siu, roasted crispy skin pork, soy sauce chicken, roast duck, you name it, and they actually do a pretty good job, better than the supermarkets, and that's why you see a separate line up for take out at the front of the place, where that butcher and his knife are probably going non-stop on the cutting of meats. This is our go-to (cause Richmond is too far) when we want a simple gathering at a place where you know what you are going to get for food. They have the average dishes when sitting in, from your 2 to 3 plate servings, usually giving you a free soup and dessert to finish off the meal. Remember to either bring your debit card or cash, no credit here, and parking can be challenging, as this is considered Vancouver Chinese eat street, I would suggest walking south behing the London Drugs a few blocks. This place, ever since opening, which wasn't that long is now a staple of the area, the prices are fair for today's prices, and the servings are a good, if not large size. Cantonese BBQ Seafood restaurant have two branches located at the Richmond and Vancouver. These two locations give us a convenient choice whether go to Vancouver's one to pick up the BBQ product on the way after work. They are always lining up outside the restaurant during the time people are off work . Their kitchen is always busy to prepare more BBQ food in order to satisfy the demand of customers. l believe this community is not the type of din out type of fans and prefer staying home to cook. Therefore, we are always lucky to get the BBQ order in fresh and hot condition. If we decide to go out for dinner during the weekend , we will choose the Richmond branch. The reason why is the dining area of Vancouver branch is relatively small and even we are able to find a free parking, you may not have the table available for us The owner must have done some research ahead of time before they decide to set up the new restaurant into this plaza. The large volume of customers in this neighbourhood business includes the supermarket, Asian grocery stores ,the drug store are some of the main streamline to support the business in this area. We go Richmond branch because they have a larger dining area and easy to find a parking spot. There's a Chinese supermarket right beside the restaurant, we can pick up some groceries before we head home. I was in the area and decided to pick up some chashu for lunch. We got a little bit more than half a pound of chashu. They charge $12.95 per lb. This is pretty much the standard price everywhere. This place is also a restaurant and they do offer other dishes other than Chinese bbq. You can get one or two items with rice but I found that it is a better deal to just get the bbq to go. Anyways when I showed up during lunch time, it was not very busy. Free parking can be found at the plaza. They do cut the bbq chashu quite thick. The flavour was not bad but the meat was a bit tough. I prefer much softer and tender meat. Not sure if they gave us an end pieces but we have noticed a lot of burnt parts and also the end pieces tend to be somewhat dry. Solid HK style BBQ place in the Collingwood area. Parking is available in the nice large strip mall lot. This place does get full though. The place looks like something straight out of the 1980s. Old school charm. Staff are friendly and helpful. No complaints. I had the BBQ pork and roast pork on rice. Meat as fresh and juicy. Roast pork was nice and crispy. I was happy. My friend had the soy chicken on rice. I tried a piece. Juice and moist. They got it right. The place also gave us a nice big bowl of pork and vegetable soup on the house. I am really happy this restaurant opened up here. It took over what used to be Peaceful Restaurant. Being in the London Drugs shopping plaza, it meant there is a parking lot plus street parking around the area. Definitely way more convenient than the other restaurants along Kingsway without a parking lot. If you have been missing Cantonese/HK style roast meat, look no further. The roast meat or those I tried (char siu, sio bak, and soya chicken) was really good. The sio bak (roasted pork belly) had a crispy skin which was so good. The meat was also tender, and not dried up at all. The char siu was charred nicely and not too hard. The soya chicken was moist and the skin was silky smooth. I love that they also serve us a big bowl of complimentary soup. It was a basic soup of radish and carrot. So homely. We came just before the dinner rush. It got real packed after 530 pm or so. You could also do take out for the meat or meat on rice. That was a popular option for customers who came in before 530 pm. An easy dinner for the family. Besides the roast meat, they also have Peking duck, lobster and other seafood dishes where you can do a a combination set meal. There are also the usual suspects of fried rice, chow mein and dishes. Brand new restaurant only open since Sept 2022, they are serving authentic Hong Kong style BBQ. When you are outside watching all the ducks, and roasted pork displayed by the windows then walking in to hear the staff chatting with the customers in Cantonese, you would suddenly feel like you've been transported to Asia. Recommend by a friend so we tried it out. Surprised at how good their Hong Kong style BBQ is. Also nice to have something like this in this area. First dish was bbq duck on rice. Pretty tasty. Second dish was Lobster steam basket with sticky rice. Rice portion was good, rice was about average and value was below average. We wanted to order some nicer dishes as it was a belated Mother's Day dinner. Ling cod was on special, done two ways and was the best dish of the night. Very fresh and tasted good! This place was occupied by another Chinese restaurant before not sure if now is the same owner and just changed the name. From the web it says opens at 10 yeah it is but only bbq they actually should make a correction to this info...Main kitchen opens at 11 am. I was amazed how much line up the first time I visited.. I'm to rate this neutrally as possible because my dad wanted items that this restaurant isn't famous for. We ordered 5 dishes, one was the Peking duck two ways, fish and tofu clay hot pot, stir fried beans and beef, salt and pepper pork chops, and Yeung chow fried rice. The best way to describe these dishes is that it felt more homemade rather than a restaurant. Had my dad allowed us to order their specialties which is the siu lap I think we would have had a better experience. The siu lap is fantastic as we gotten takeout numerous times. I wouldn't come to restaurant for ambience as it's simple restaurant fare. If we had their specialties I would give a better as I know it's good. read more

We ate here about a month ago, their lobster fried/sticky rice basket. We were expecting a nice sticky fried rice as a base but turned out to be steamed rice. The lobster was kind of overcooked and so the meat stuck to the shell. At $80, it was a disappointment. Not again. But we had a good meal once before that so today we ventured there again. Their roast pork was excellent with crispy crackling but the portion was too little, only 5 small pieces as we ordered 3 kinds of BBQ including BBQ pork and BBQ duck. The BBQ pork was disappointing as it was a bit dry, next time we'll order a piece with some fat. The duck was ok. Though we gave it a 5 out of 10, we are just thankful to have a BBQ restaurant to go to. read more

Driving along Kingsway looking for a place to eat after done some shopping in downtown and saw this place having a grand opening. I believe this place used to be Peaceful restaurant, on Kingsway and Joyce beside Gold Train. And this restaurant is the same restaurant as the one in Richmond but a new location in Vancouver now? Anyways, found parking easily cause there were plentiful of free parking in the London Drugs plaza. We were greeted and promptly seated as it was after the dinner rush. The place was renovated with a full bbq layout by the door and inside had a very casual style setting. Here were the food we ordered; 1. Daily soup (complimentary). It was free, pretty basic Cantonese style. 2. Half order of salted free range chicken. Wanted to order some bbq meat but they were all sold out. The chicken was okay but a little bit on the drier side. 3. Live lobster with sticky rice. It was a grand opening promotion ($68). The lobster was of decent size, about 2Lbs but a little bit over deep fried before mixing with the sticky rice. 4. Stir fried scallops with broccolis. The scallops were nicely done, tender and juicy. 5. Cauliflower with Chinese preserved meat. Wish the cauliflower a bit softer and the preserved meat could be sliced a bit thinner. 6. Green bean sweet soup dessert (complimentary). Surprisingly pretty nicely done especially I am pretty picky with the Cantonese desserts. Overall, the service was pretty decent; the waitresses and owners were "Johnny on the spot" trying to attend to every customers' dining needs. As for the food, they certainly geared toward the old Cantonese saying, "cheap price, good portion, and delicious". For the price and good portion; it's quite cheap considering the massive portion you get for each dish. And as delicious, I wouldn't say it's delicious great but they were decent. Unfortunately didn't get a chance to try their bbq because that's what they are supposed to be known for, their bbq combos with rice. I guess this will be Happy Day Cafe's competitor who's just a few steps away. Seemed like every diners were from Guangdong or Cantonese speakers according to the way they speak. I probably go back and try their bbq meat one day. I would say 3-3.5 stars to be fair in terms of price and value? read more

Servers are okey thought we dont like when we order too much they ask you with a surprise question if we can finish or not cause for two people is a lot. This is the new Cantonese bbq restaurant that opened up on kingsway. It used to be another Chinese restaurant called peaceful. Such good comfort food and good price for the food you get. I love having these bbq meats, Chinese style I picked roasted pork belly (there is the bone part at the bottom of the meat) and soy sauce chicken (it's a whole leg piece with the end bone, that last piece is the biggest and best part) on rice with some soy sauce, that's all you really need. Then the rice noodle roll is filled with roasted pork (char sui) I felt like the noodle wasn't soft enough, it was probably frozen so it wasn't bouncy or thin and they only have this during afternoon lunch time. The waitress asked us to sit at a table by the wall but we asked for a bigger one by the window because the one by the wall was too close to the other tables. She told us the table by the window was for four people so we took the table by the wall. Then she asked us if the table behind that table was okay. We did not know why she was indecisive. My sister tried to order hot coffee milk tea and the waitress said they could not make it hot while they were able to give us hot tea. So my sis told her she would have it cold without sugar, then she said, "Without sugar? How smart?" Who would speak that way to customers? She gave customers attitude. Also, It did not make sense that they were unable to make hot drinks (hot drinks only require hot water). They just wanted to charge us more (cold drinks cost more). I inquired about the daily soup and I said no after she told me what it was. Then she came back later and said, "You don't want it even if it's free?" If it was really free then she should have let me know when I asked her about the soup. In terms of food, the rice that accompanied the meat was cold. That was unacceptable. The BBQ pork was sliced too thin. The sand ginger chicken was tasteless and consisted of mostly bones and skin. They put the ginger and onion sauce and another kind of sauce on the side which were unnecessary if the chicken itself was flavourful. Also, they only put a piece of broccoli on the plate and it was uncooked. This was odd because the vegetables on the plate are commonly choy sum or gai lan. In addition, the free tea was nasty and the cold coffee milk tea tasted fake (no coffee taste). Furthermore, the waitress gave us a wrapped paper straw instead of inserting the straw in the drink for us. The drink was for dine-in. That just means she did not want to serve. Moreover, I told the waitress to change to two items with rice from three items with rice after she told me they did not have ribs but she did not made that change on the receipt so I needed to speak with the manager. He made the change on the receipt but we realized that they charged us $2 more for BBQ duck and they did not indicate that clearly on the menu (they just scribbled the Chinese words using a felt pen which was difficult to read). Some people might not be able to read Chinese. They should inform the customers of anything that costs extra. The quality of the BBQ meat from supermarkets is better than this place. read more

This place is the real deal for BBQ meats. BBQ pork meat texture was nice and bouncy, flavor is excellent. Roasted pork skin was crispy and meat was not super fatty, good portion of meat and fat. They also have a great selection of fried noodles and fried rice. They offer rice plates too. We got the chicken and corn over rice, this hit the spot if you're looking for something simple. So this Cantonese style " su Lap " ( aka Chinese BBQ) style restaurant opened up a Few weeks ago in the neighbourhood. We wanted to try last weekend for dinner and so when we went there, there was a line up with about 10 people deep. We decided to go to a local favourite. I happened to be in the neighbourhood again this sunny Friday and simply walked in, mid-afternoon. A very simple basic set up with a few specials on Whiteboards.. I asked a few friends who worked nearby to garner their comments. Su Lap produces local favourites such as Roast Pork, Cha Sui, various styles of Chicken from Soya to simple boiled in spices... the service was fast but. It attentive which is common in these types of restaurants...one doesn't go to places as such for the service but rather the food. I scanned over the menu which includes goodies as Sweet N Sour Pork on rice, Bitter melon stir fry in Black-bean sauce with Beef .. so not bad. I decided to order the Roast Pork which I was told was good and I ordered an accompanying 1/4 Roast Duck on rice.. it came with a slow cooked home made soup of dried veggies, carrots and loads of beef .. very hearty soup if I may say so myself.. glancing over at various occupied tables I saw the plated food made quick work out of.. for a tad under $15, it was ample and what I thought was reasonably priced. You need to ask for sauces that compliment the dishes such as Plum Sauce as it isn't given freely. All in all a nice addition for this stretch of Kingsway read more

Be wary when you order takeout that is weighed on their scale, eg the roast pork. I have an accurate electronic scale at home and found that what I paid for was less than what I got. Don't take their word. Look at the reading on their scale and make sure they deduct 1.9 ounces for the container. read more
