My husband and I tried a few of the new menu items tonight. The only positive review is for the new Caesar salad, which was really good. The table next to us ordered it with grilled shrimp and it looked awesome! Our meals however were both subpar and left us wanting the old menu back. My husband had the Crispy Chicken sandwich. It was ok he said, no where near as good as the sweet tea fried chicken sandwich they used to have. I opted for the shrimp pasta el pesto. The beautiful shrimp I saw on the other tables Caesar were quite different on my dish. The fusili pasta the dish comes with completely overwhelmed the shrimp. Seriously, the shrimp were hard to find! We both agreed that we would not order these dishes again. So far the new menu is NOT working out for us. We are very disappointed. I came to Lake Nona to see my dad and have lunch with him and he suggested we go to Canvas. It's an adorable place with plenty of seating inside and outside by their little garden. Inside there is an adorable shop currently filled with the cutest Christmas decor. My dad and I split the fish tacos and tuna poke bowl. The poke bowl was a bit too sweet in my opinion but it's all about personal preference. The fish tacos were fresh and delicious. We had just enough food without feeling too full. Service was fine, no one seemed too happy to be there but the server got us refills on our drinks and anything else we needed. All in all it's an adorable little place but since I'm not in the area I won't go out of my way to come back. read more

Ok all I'm going to stay is Chicken Biscuit! Yow. As good as it gets. Fresh made biscuit. Great tasting chicken. The combination that sometimes can't be beat. As far as the rest goes..this place was superb. The indoor decor was super cute and well done. It felt clean and organized well but also a bit picturesque. We chose to sit outside (2 kids were with us) and it went well. Our waiter did well checking on us and helping us out throughout the meal. My wife ordered the skillet, lemon pancakes, and a nice drink (strawberry spritzer I think) and none of it was bad at all. It all went down smooth and without complaints. They have two areas, not so typical, where kids can be and/or to take pictures. At the front entrance, there is the glass house! Super cute and easy to grab some photos there of families. In the back, they have a sand pit for lack of better words. It's really sand, some toys, and space. Which is nice. It's not a small area at all. We set up a photoshoot after our brunch and we took advantage of both areas. I had my eye on a smoothie for after the shoot since it was a warm(er) day but didn't get to go back. The food is 9/10! But we came here twice and both times the hostess team kept lying about the wait time. When we came in this time, the hostess said "30 minutes for inside" which we wanted because it was raining outside. I come back in 30 minutes waiting for a text, she says "it should be 5 more minutes" ... 10 minutes pass, she walks up to me and my boyfriend "do you guys wanna sit inside or outside?" After I told her to put me on a wait for INSIDE. I tell her inside, she goes "it's gonna be another 10 minutes" so my boyfriend says "10?" She goes "maybe 25" we were waiting for over an hour, had she been direct, we probably would've went somewhere else in Lake Nona or ordered to go. We ended up being seated outside in the rain! Which defeated the purpose of waiting, but! The food and service is as great. Just wish the host team was more organized and empathetic to our time. read more

Food is horrible - we got the calamari (had to send it back twice it was so rubbery), tomato soup, mango salad, the goddess salad, bean succatoosh, and some wine. The salads were drenched in dressing and are basically just lettuce. Tomato soup was OKAY but would've been better with some cheese on top with some pumpkin seeds. None of their fish or shrimp is wild caught. Their house-made oyster crackers though are DELICIOUS!!! Our server, Brandon, was a sweetheart and very helpful. I've been to Canvas a few times with family and friends, and I'm always impressed. I love the exterior and interior decor, and the lakeside setting. The service is excellent and prompt, but more importantly, the food is remarkable. What a joy too that it's a relatively short drive from my house. My only demerit here (something I hope they will improve upon) is for their craft beer and cocktail menu, which could use some tweaking. Both times that we've had The French Quarter it was a tad underwhelming... and, frankly, I would replace Orlando Brewing as many of their beers are quite bland (this is probably due to their organic nature). These are of course subjective observations and minor suggestions to an otherwise flawless restaurant. We came in last week for my Father's 70th birthday celebration and had a total blast. The kitchen rotates the menu every so often, so I was excited to try a few of their newer items. As usual, their spicy oyster crackers and Smoked Fish Dip were perfect (love that cream cheese!) The Grilled Teres Major (new item) was incredibly juicy and well seasoned. But by far the best of the night was the Oak-Grilled Cobia (also new). This was THE best fish I've tasted in a very long time. It was so warm and tender, and when coupled with the squash purée, every bite was heavenly. A surprisingly complex dish. As a birthday treat from our server, we ended the night with the Spiced Chocolate Cream, which was so rich it hit everyone's sweet spot. This was yet another unforgettable experience in Lake Nona. I had the opportunity to try the Valentine' menu at Canvas and loved everything. I tried the amuse oyster to start, along with a cocktail called The Silver Lining Martini. It was comprised of lychee & St-Germain foam, lemon, ginger, Orgeat and vodka - it was sweet, light and refreshing so it went down easily. Then we moved on to the mouthwatering lobster tail, followed by the Manhattan steak. It came with some sort of artichoke, truffles and a cauliflower purée. Hopefully the steak and lobster get added to their menu after Valentine's Day. We capped everything off with a rich, chocolate lava cake. I've only been to Canvas a handful of times but really enjoyed all of my visits. Extra points for the warm atmosphere, the great covered patio area and live music (Wed-Fri, 6-9pm). read more

Beautiful setting, fabulous service, underwhelming food (with the exception of their desserts). I was excited to try this place out, as I heard marvelous things from fellow Yelpers. However the prices don't really match the quality of the food I had, so it was a bit disappointing. Teetering between 2-3 stars overall. We started with the calamari fries (delicious, huge, great sauce), and the smoked fish dip (too salty, it was served hot and tasted like buffalo dip). The short rib burger was just a bummer. I am not usually too picky, but this burger did not taste like anything special, and left an unpleasant burnt taste in my mouth, which was weird considering the burger wasn't burnt. Maybe the caramelized onions were burnt, not sure, but it was not good. The fried shrimp and oyster poboy was another letdown, as the bun was too big and the shrimp tails were still on the fried shrimp. Maybe we ordered wrong, and missed out on the amazing dishes. Not sure, because it seems like people really like this place. I was surprised with our bill, considering what we ordered. But I guess we are paying for the atmosphere? I did enjoy the dessert, which was specially prepared for our party by the pastry chef! So maybe next time it will be a drinks and dessert only stop for us. read more

Oh Canvas, it's too bad I can only leave two stars. I had high expectations based on friends' comments and the sheer beauty of your space. But the food offset all that. First off, the space is gorgeous inside and out. Architecturally, it was very aesthetic and pleasing, the interior dining and open kitchen area was cozy, warm, and surprising the noise level was good. It has a nice view as it is right on a lake, so we were able to take in the planes landing at MCO. Then, the food. There is a good selection of food, but many of the items just seemed to have an ingredient a bit odd or off. I was torn by so many items, but I ended up ordering the cobia with squash puree. I hate squash, but the waiter assured me it was minimal, so I went with it. He wasn't wrong for it or the fish. The dish arrived and the plate clearly had been sitting under the lamp for much more than it should have been and unfortunately, the plate was hotter than the fish or the puree. The size of the fish and the amount of puree was just sad for $26. The fish just tasted of salt and the puree actually wasn't that horrible (albeit cold). I had also ordered a side of their Brussels sprouts, which the waiter indicated were amazing. Well, the only thing amazing about it was that they were charging me $6 for six sprouts. Yup, that's $1 a piece. I had seen other orders of this on other tables where theirs were quite a bit more than six sprouts. This is where both the chef and the waiter should've been embarrassed and said "No, I'm not sending this out like this." But they didn't. They were okay to good, but again mostly tasted of salt. The best part of the evening was the dessert. I hope they get it together. I wanted a reason to come out there again because the space is so gorgeous, but none was provided. read more

There's the restaurant and then there's the market. The restaurant was full so we could order at the market and sat outside. Not usually a bad deal but this is Florida in the summer. It was already hot! Nonetheless, I ordered a coffee (go figure) and the Nona for breakfast. It's an English muffin with scrambled egg whites, spinach, roma tomatoes and goat cheese. Surprisingly, it was delish since I'm not a fan of egg whites - I like the whole egg. My family split two Rise and Shines - fried egg, swiss cheese, avocado - and an Almond Coconut smoothie. Let me tell ya, the smell of that smoothie was so tropical it made sitting outside that much better!! Food was really good and tasted fresh. Have been here a couple of times now and it always feels like a special occasion. If I had friends coming from out of town or a swanky date, this is a place I would like to go. Outside is unique looking with a multicolored plexiglass cottage making this property whimsical and fun. It's just making you want to hold a special event here. As you get inside you're in a small store/to go counter area that is enchanting in a charming hipster type way. It's a skosh pretentious but likeable and friendly. I felt very welcomed, this is part of the magic of this place. In the dining area the kitchen area is more open than most restaurants and it's fun to see the chefs working their craft. For dinner last night I had a glass of rosé wine, the fish dip appetizer and the Cuban sandwich with yucca fries for my entree. The rose was, of course, fabulous. About $8 per glass depending on what was selected. The fish dip was served hot in a small cast iron dish with thin water crackers and tiny chopped chives. Was so disappointed by it. It was hot and fishy and very oily. Didn't discern any other flavors other that pungent and fishy. Wished it had some jalapeño or anything on the side, and wished it was not so hot. Found the texture of the fish dip runny and unappetizing. The calamari appetizer my friend had was much better, had depth of flavor, spicy sauce, and it was delicious. Order the calamari! My Cuban sandwich entree was great, perfect garlic dill pickles and smokey ham. The yucca fries were delicious and hearty with a sweet glaze and nice fried texture. Overall I love this place! The atmosphere is something to wonder at, it feels like you're in a beautiful dream. The food can be interesting and sometimes a hit or a miss depending on your palate. Maybe order some smaller plates or experiment with appetizers to find something you like. Whatever happens, the service is great and it's a very enjoyable place! read more

Favorite gem in Lake Nona with so much to offer. The location is beautiful, restaurant sits on the lake with a gorgeous view of the sunset. The seating design of the mosaic space allows for someone coming in to study or work to enjoy the views without being in the restaurant during earlier hours and enjoy the market offerings. I frequently enjoyed this space while in school. The restaurant itself has great bar seating, large tables, and a beautiful patio for outdoor dining. Food is a delicious fusion of american, southern, and latin cuisine. This is definitely one of my top pics for special occasions, or date nights, and the best photo ops! read more

I came here for brunch with my mom, we both live in Lake Nona & were excited to try Canvas. I ordered a Cuban sandwich & my mom had fish tacos. My Cubano was bland & didn't have a pickle. (which is a key ingredient in a Cuban sandwich) Not a huge deal but by the time I was able to get someone's attention to rectify it my sandwich was cold. The gentleman told me "he spoke to the cook & didn't know how that could have happened" which was a weird statement to me... Lol, I didn't know either. My mom also didn't care for her Tacos, we felt both orders lacked flavor... Overall it was total let down compared to our experiences with food & service at Chroma & PP&BC. The fries, drizzled with honey and paired with a garlic dipping sauce, were the highlight of the meal. The fish tacos on the other hand, boring. The fish was overcooked, lacked seasoning, and the veggies on the taco could have benefited from some dressing. So I ordered their duck plate as well as their salmon plate. My expectations were great but the duck was just bad. Been 4 times because I can walk there from my house, but only have returned because of the convenience. Had 2-3 appetizers which were good (octopus, Johnny cakes too- though they tasted and looked nothing like j-cakes). Ordered steak medium, which came out half medium-rare and half rare, with some too strong flavoring on the outside, bland on the inside, tough, and I didn't finish. Had some flatbread with meat on top which was also too flavored. Tried 3 cocktails- all nearly undrinkable. The hamburger is actually superb and it's about all I'll order. The service was pretty top-notch though the uniforms may work better at Sonny's. The view out the back is very nice for now (though the pond it sits on is to be developed around). Came here for a birthday brunch with about 13 people. It started off a bit rocky as they had the party split into two tables. We asked to be put together but was told we couldn't, but after raising the issue more they were able to sit us together. Keep in mind we had made reservations well in advance and the place was pretty empty. I would've enjoyed for them to have put us in one of the nicer rooms they have facing the lake, but we were placed right in front of the kitchen, even though the place was empty. Besides this hiccup the rest of the time went pretty well. I ordered the seasonal pancake which was scrumptious!! I absolutely loved this dish and it was quite big. My husband had some bites and there was still left over after I ate as much as I could. I highly recommend this dish on the brunch menu! They also had unlimited mimosas.. pretty weak on the champagne though. My husband got the Cuban sandwich and enjoyed it, I also enjoyed the yuca fries that came with it!! The location itself is colorful, vibrant and fun. Lots of cute areas to take photos, especially the famous glass house. Sunday brunch is a must. I would suggest to make reservations beforehand. The service was prompt and friendly. I've tried the lobsters Benedict, which I feel could have a bit more lobster, but the taste was there! And the farmhouse salad with shrimp! Now that was a salad that tickled my pickle! They had me at the description of soft boiled egg and goat cheese! Yes, I'll give you a moment to salivate. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the salad was prepared to perfection. The views are beautiful from the interior to the exterior. We sat outside on our second visit and the scenery was a nice touch. The beep electronic transports are right outside of the restaurant to enjoy and are a fun thing to do while hydrating and sobering up from the mimosas. We ordered the Ponzu pork belly as an appetizer, the Cuban sandwich, and the hanger steak. All three were off the charts. The pork belly smelled wonderful and was crisp. It dissolved in my mouth. The burnt ends on the pork added to the flavor. The Cuban sandwich had ham and more pork belly which worked out really well with the dijonnaise. I wasn't a fan of the yucca but some may like the sweet glaze added to it. Finally the steak was awesome. It may look darker or burnt in pics but rest assured you will be satisfied. I don't even consider myself much of a steak lover but this one I could make an exception for and order again and again. The herbs on top helped to add a unique addition to the already savory beef. If you like good food and great service in a very relaxing setting, this is one of my favorite restaurants in Lake Nona.

My husband and I came here on the ever-elusive date night and we had such a pleasant time. We ubered over from our home and I was shocked that such a cool place was tucked away behind so many neighborhoods. You walk in to a "store" which has the most adorable little knock knacks, as well as a to go bakery. We were seated quickly without reservations on a Friday night around 7, granted it was Veterans Day so it's possible that it was just a slow night. We started off with a couple of cocktails, I had the ginger beer cocktail and my husband opted for an old fashioned. Both delicious. We went with the burrata and calamari appetizers which were incredible. The calamari came with a harissa sauce, which had a nice heat to it. The burrata was amazing. We decided to split a meal and order a few sides, so had the pork shank, collard stewed greens, Brussels sprouts and yucca fries. All were amazing. The pork literally fell off the bone, the greens were...nicely stewed? Hah, they were good. The yucca fries were served with an aioli that was amazing. Overall, I will definitely come back. **Update** I had reservations for Sunday brunch to celebrate my birthday with a group of friends. Well it's a hot Sunday and my partner and I were wearing tank tops, as were two of the girls that were with us. The hostess said that men can't wear tank tops and have to have sleeves. The manager Jeff stated that it is unsanitary. We asked if we came in with shaved armpits if it changes anything and Jeff stated no. I feel there is no reason to say that men can't wear something but women can. Jeff was a little rude about the situation and never apologized. The "rule" of no tank tops isn't even published anywhere as of today. Not online, on the door or menus. Totally put a bad taste in my mouth about the company. ** My first time here was definitely a good experience. From walking in, the staff and manager we're welcoming and pleasant. The lady seating us over heard our conversation and seated us in the shade since we had a sunburn. The server knew the menu, and accommodate my request for my order with no hesitation. I had always heard of Canvas' beautiful location and yummy food. So I finally decided to make the drive to Lake Nona and I wasn't disappointed. The service was on point and our server was very knowledgeable. We started with the Fried Calamari for appetizer and that sauce was to die for, although the portion was a little small, best for 2-3 people. After that I had their BBQ hamburger and it was really good. Their fries were nothing crazy, but the hamburger made up for it. They have a nice selection of cocktails, wines, and beers in case you want to just go for a drink or two. Highly recommend Canvas for big groups or for a yummy meal.
