Went for a midday dim sum meal. We had random assortment of dishes, we tried some new dishes. Everything was pretty hot, a couple of dishes came out a little cold. Not used to having dim sum without the cart. It's not a bad thing but, I enjoy the vibe of the push cards and trying new things just by seeing them.. The overall service was good. They kept our free hot coming. Was worth driving here from Rancho Cucamonga. Ended up splitting the check three ways. So with tip, cost came out to $38 a person. read more

Over the last few months, we have been eating dim sum at Capital Seafood in Arcadia more often because it's really good and there's usually a shorter wait than the local places near Diamond Bar. For hot tea, I like Jasmine Green Tea or Chrysanthemum. Like most dim sum restaurants, Capital Seafood charges a plate/tea setting fee. It's $1.95 per person. It's nicely decorated inside and clean. The staff is attentive and will come over quickly when they see you need something, so it the service is good. Some of my dim sum favorites here are: - Har Gow (Shrimp dumpling) - Shrimp rice noodle (long noodle), sauce separate - Sesame Ball (They give you three types: red bean, ube, and salted egg yolk - BBQ Pork bun - Turnip cake - Deep fried Meat dumpling (mocha type outside - crispy) Prices are about the same or just slightly less than Lunasia, Sea Harbour, and Elite. I've been looking for a decent dim sum spot for a long time & through Yelp's feedback we found this gem! Fast service. Pork shumai, chicken feet & rice noodle shrimp are highly recommended. It was prepped perfectly with the right texture & balanced taste. The shumai was juicy & chicken feet was tender without an aftertaste. Tried also the sticky rice in a small bowl which was surprisingly very filling enough for two people. Siopao was served hot & fresh, available in chicken or pork. Price is around $8 for each item justified enough for the good experience that we had. Disappointing! We eaten here a few other times before and the food was good and well as the service. This latest experience was not good. The food wasn't good. We've had their Peking duck before which was good, BUT absolutely not the case this time. In regard to the other dishes we ordered, we specifically requested that the dishes NOT be spicy. Well our request didn't get translated into the dishes which came out. The were SPICY HOT! If the experience with BAD food wasn't enough, the head server (a short, older graying Asian fellow with glasses) was awful. When we arrived, there were only 2 occupied tables in the main dining room. A few minutes later they seated a large 2 table contingent right next to us. The new neighbors were extremely loud and noisy. We asked the head server if we could move to a quieter table in the other side of the restaurant. He said absolutely NOT, and that part of the restaurant was closed. If that were the case, why was there an occupied table next to the table we were hoping to move to. Terrible! Got our food pretty quickly (everything was oily and small portions) but the worst part about this was as the time went on, the place got louder and louder. All of a sudden, a huge group of people started trickling in and we could barely hear over the crowd. About 30 min in of eating, the waiter told us that there was a reservation at 11:30 AM for our table. I was baffled and thought "WHY DIDN'T THEY TELL US EARLIER BEFORE WE SAT DOWN? WHY WEREN'T WE PLACED IN A DIFFERENT TABLE?" Essentially we were forced to quickly rush and eat, and even though the waiters didn't rush us, the customers slowly engulfed us and kept staring at our table. We were so uncomfortable being in a sea of people and started feeling claustrophobic. Keep in mind, my aunt and uncle are senior aged. We just wanted to have a nice and relaxing meal eating dim sum as we haven't seen our relatives in a while. Instead, we were met by a large group of people and waiters that failed to inform us of a time constraint. Capital Seafood Restaurant has terrible customer service by delivering the wrong food, and despite the delivery receipt clearly and plainly showing that the item delivered per delivery receipt was not the item ordered on the door dash app, Capital Seafood rep insisted that the client ordered something that wasn't on the menu. We came right when they opened at 9:30am to beat the brunch crowd (it got super busy). We were sat and asked what we wanted to drink right away. We decided that we just wanted to drink water and the lady pointed to the menu and said we would be charge $1.95 anyways for "drinks and condiments." We found it odd that we had to pay for that, so we ask for jasmine tea since we were going to be charged anyways. We got the shrimp soup dumplings, sticky rice har gow, shrimp siu mai, sticky rice, bok choy, shrimp and chives dumplings, salted egg buns and stir fried noodles tossed in xo sauce. Everything came out delicious! The only items we wouldn't order again are the stir fry noodles tossed in xo sauce because it was overly greasy and didn't taste like xo at all. So this place does a good job showing people that upscale Chinese / Cantonese is not an oxymoron. First, the atmosphere - very comfortable, not crammed to the brim with mismatched chairs. Linen - CLEAN! Bathrooms - CLEAN! Food - pretty good! Have been here several times, and although there is always room for improvement (less white pepper for the scallops, more clam meat instead of empty shells for the stir fried clams, less tenderizers for the beef chow fun... sorry, Asian dad speaking), this place actually won't embarrass you if you bring important friends / clients for dinner. New favorite dim sum place!! I don't typically eat dim sum that often anymore after growing up because I felt like the quality isn't the same as it was when I was a kid. However, this place beats it all. I love their chives pan fried dumplings, cheung fun, and almond milk tea puff pastry. I've been missing and craving for that puff pastry for years and this place just makes me keep going back for it. It is definitely something you want to save as dessert because the milk tea in the jar is pretty hot. After refitting the restaurant for a pretty nice outdoor dining experience (huge covered outdoor patio), the restaurant is currently (January 2021) limited by county health order to take-out orders only. But they are still serving! To the workers of Capital Seafood, we salute you! It was never the cheapest dim sum in town, but it's pretty good! Pre-pandemic, the perfect place to hang out and fight over your exterior car colors and options (Rusnak Mercedes Benz is right down the street). Using the generally accepted dim sum gold standard of har gow deliciousness, my vote is 10/10; shrimps are juicy and fresh, skin is not too thick and tastes just right. My personal favorite, a hard to find dim sum item, is baked (not steamed) ni wong bao, and Capital Seafood has these out-of-this-world warm dessert buns by the handful, which is usually how many I order. Other favorites here are the Chinese broccoli, shiu mai and salt-and-pepper calamari. Nothing is any fun "to go," and certainly not dim sum, but Capital Seafood makes the very best of it, as items are securely packed and all condiments are included. The lower section(s) of the pork belly is just lean enough without being dry. The surrounding preserved vegetables bears good flavor without being salty. Congee with shredded roast duck: The congee has a good base in the sense it bears substance and depth; unlike other congees, it's neither diluted nor watery in its texture. Every spoonful is packed with the flavors of roasted duck. The shredded duck itself is delicious: the meat is tender, flavorful, and the skin carries a degree of fat that makes it a delight to eat. Cherry shrimp and egg white fried rice: Out of all the dishes this unfortunately, is the dish they messed up on. Both the cherry shrimp and rice have signs of char on them thereby signifying they've been over-cooked. The waiter calculated over $100 for tea for 5 of us until I pointed out the mistake, so my suggestion is to check the receipt when it is time to pay. The food was delicious, but the service was average. We had driven an hour and half to try this one upon recommendation from our friend, so I was a bit disappointed considering it being pricer than other dim sum restaurants as well. Also note that they tend not to seat you until your entire party has arrived. I usually like the old dim sum experience where they bring around the carts, but since this place is close to us and they take reservations, we came here. The din sun is good as you'd expect. What made this experience better for us was the person helping us, PING. She was very friendly and patient with us, especially with our 18 month old toddler. Other dim sum places is just seems like the whole staff is always rushed and they like have a quote to sell a certain amount of food. Those cart ladies are sometimes pushy! This place had a more relaxed atmosphere even though it was pretty busy on a Sunday for lunch. Again, Ping and her helper were super friendly, attentive snd patient. Gave us a candle for the bday celebrant we were with. I think they might have two locations but I would recommend this place and will definitely be back. The beef rice noodles and mango pudding were just ok. Would've ordered for dim sum w shrimp if we came w a larger group, but it was just the 2 of us w child. After so many years, I thought there must be some good changes but... UNFORTUNATELY, aside from the waitress that can speak English, it's gotten even worst. We ordered Ti Kuan Yin tea which is supposedly very fragrant, but after SEEPING for 5 mins, we poured the tea, it's practically clear water with a hint of tea color. So I opened the teapot, and you wouldn't believe this. They served us a pot of tea that had been previously served/drank/ used. This is really ridiculous. My family and I have been coming to this place for dim sum over 10 years. We especially love their seafood dim sum dishes. My favorites are the shumai (which include shrimp), the hargow, the grilled shrimp and chive dumplings. The baked crispy bread with almond cream is an almond cream soup with puff pastry on top, which is not a typical dim sum dish I've seen but is definitely a treat!
