This is my favorite restaurant in San Antonio. Everything I order is delicious. They have the best Crab Cakes and Calamari.

Food was delicious and you get bread as a before food snack. Everything was delicious. My only complaint is the "reservation" process. I walked in and was asked if I had a reservation, I politely said no but they still had me wait for 30 minutes before they sat me. Mind you I came right when they opened and no one else was here. What can I say about Cappy's except that every one of my visits has been nothing short of awesome. I run into friends, drink perfect Bloody Mary's on the patio, am never bored with the menu and for brunch, they even have gluten-free pancakes. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable. And although now I cant eat the yummy bread, muffins and biscuits they bring to the table I remember them in all their glory. And I miss them, terribly. Great brunch, always! This is a special place for me and my partner. We love to come here to celebrate and the food is usually quite good. The cocktails are great too! The last few times we came we didn't get very good service and our meat was not cooked to the right temperature. We hate to complain about food, but it's hard not to with their prices. I had high hopes for the ribeye and prime rib. We'll keep coming back but I think it's something they could improve on. read more

On our way to the Madonna concert we searched Yelp and made reservations an hour prior. A local family owned restaurant we were seated by Trevor and told we would make our concert with no problem. I mentioned we saw the Brussels Sprouts on Yelp and he immediately ordered them on the house. My husband ordered the rib eye with bone marrow butter and I had the halibut. We got them so quickly it surprised us. Both were out of this world. The service was impeccable and they totally made us feel at home. I would highly recommend and come back next time we are in town. I was expecting a much better experience. Very pricey! I ordered the ribeye with bone marrow butter, cooked medium. My dinner partner ordered the same dish. The cook was correct but I could not get past the char. The flavor of the steak was lost to the burnt black crunch of meat. My friend's steak did not have half the amount of char as mine. The manager came by the table and asked if everything was ok. I explained the steak was really not editable. He apologized and asked if he could get me anything, like a glass of wine. I accepted the apology and figured this glass of wine was offered as complimentary to the poorly prepared food. NOPE. Charged $9. I will say, the wait staff were polite and timely. And the brussels sprouts were very good. But for the price, the burnt main entrée and the lack of customer care, I cannot recommend Cappy's nor will I return. read more

This is our second time here at Cappy's. Last time we had to make a reservation for a Sunday Brunch, this time we decided to live dangerously and try out luck with Saturday brunch. To our surprise, it was t pack to the gills. This place is one of those places that is casual with a classy vibe. The crowd is a little older but that didn't stop us from coming. My wife ordered the Rocky Road Pancake Special and I got the Homard. To our surprise the Rocky Road wasn't as sweet as we thought it would be. My Homard was almost perfect but the lobster was a little over cooked and the crab lumps had a lot of cartilage fragments buried in it. Taste is still amazing! Of course I saved room for dessert! The Key Lime Pie was a little on the sweet side this time but the last time I was here, it was well balanced. Note: they use real key limes, not food coloring! Overall, our service was excellent and everyone is friendly/welcoming. I can't wait to come back for our date night and try the rest of the menu. You won't be disappointed! read more

Went here for brunch this past Sunday and fell in love with it from the very start. We sat outside and, with nifty shops on one side, yuppie crowd on the other, and an extensive selection of dishes and drinks on the menu, it was the ultimate brunch place! Our waiter was very pleasant and soon after we placed our order, he came with a basket of *warm* bread and muffins and a bowl of strawberry spread. Could it be any more perfect? Yes, because even the restroom was very well taken care of (clean restrooms always score an extra brownie point in my book)! While the food didn't blow my mind, it was delicious and presentation was top notch. Expect to spend at least $15-20/person. read more

This restaurant has been a favorite in San Antonio for many many years. The atmosphere is very inviting and the service is awesome. I got the Potato Crusted Halibut. It was like eating a piece of chicken breast. So thick and tender. You can't go wrong with Halibut unless it's not cooked right. It was so flakey and tastey, I wish I had more! The heck with the vegetables, just give me the Halibut! For desert I had the warm sticky toffee cake with a scoop of ice cream. Just mix it all together and make ice cream from that combo and you have a winner. YUMMO! Winner winner Halibut dinner! read more

I love everything about Cappy's! Last visit I ate Market Grilled salad, which was fabulous. The crab cake is so good too! The service is always top notch. The food servers know the menu and are able to make recommendations, if you are unsure. Wine list works for me too. The desserts always sound good, but I generally opt for a second glass of wine. I have been eating at Cappy's since the 80's and have never been disappointed. read more

I'm going to preface this review with this: we visited back in October so my memory of my meal isn't as fresh as the next person. But I do remember what I ordered, and I remember it being just "okay." Great meals stick with me, and this one didn't. The atmosphere is a little "ladies who lunch." Not really my thing, but I can see how it could be a draw for some. I ordered the baja salad, which was exactly as expected. No surprises, bad or good. It was a pretty good salad, topped with a big fried fish stick, and it was filling. I can't really say anything bad about it, because it was good, but I can't really say anything great about it either. Thus, my three star review. For a $15 salad, I expect something amazing, and I didn't get that. My husband enjoyed his meal (he ordered from the brunch menu - the Commodore), but he agrees. Definitely not worth the $15 price tag. I think Cappy's is overrated and overpriced, but if you're willing to shell out the money...go right ahead! You won't leave disappointed. read more

So I've been wanting to try this place for awhile and never really got around to it. When I stepped through the doors, I was a little apprehensive. Needless to say, we were definitely the youngest in that entire building (other than the servers and hostesses). However, we immediately greeted and helped right away. The thing I love about this place is that the staff all work together and provide great customer service, everyone was super friendly. Our server, Ariana, was great and I strongly recommend trying to get a table in her area. She was very quick and super sweet. While we were discussing our menu, a gentleman came up to your table and asked what were thinking about having for dinner. So we talked about what we were thinking and this gentleman gave us his recommendations. So, this gentleman turned out the be the Executive Chef, Gabe. He recommended that we try the Brussels Sprouts with Shrimp. I advised that I couldn't have shrimp and he decided to let us try a sample of it. OMG, the Brussels Sprouts were served with a pureed kimchi sauce and it was SOOO good. Seriously, I would order this to go just for a snack if I was in the area. We actually ordered the appetizer special, fried mushrooms (served with chorizo, pureed cauliflower, and a drizzle of a delightful sauce) and it was pretty good. Main entrees were: 1) The grill halibut with mashed potatoes and veggies and 2) The ribeye w/ bone marrow butter and roasted cauliflower. They were both very delicious and I would recommend both of them. The ribeye is a 1 pounder so you're getting your money's worth with the steak. Next DESSERT! We were recommended the chocolate cake, which we ordered, but we were also given a sample of the Chocolate Chai Pot de Creme (sp)? **LOL, it was on the board so didn't get to really see the name**, but the Chocolate Chai dessert...I FELL IN LOVE WITH IT. Its a little unusual, Chai Chocolate pudding w/ sesame oil infused whipped cream sprinkled with crushed biscotti and sesame seeds. DELISH!!! I could eat that all night. The chocolate cake was really good, but the Chai Chocolate Pudding, I've never tasted anything like it. It was sooo yummy! Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely eat there again. The food was AWESOME and the staff...to be honest, you can't find customer service like that now a days (trust me I eat out alot!), not only were they great, but you can tell they enjoyed their work atmosphere. I very rarely offer five stars but this place is a gem! The service food and interior were all perfect for a San Antonio brunch. This brunch menu offers so much more than the standard pancakes and huevos rancheros that has been overdone. You can tell a chef has actually thought through the menu items. Great service from start to finish! The waitress who started our drinks was very personable and made us feel at home from the start. Coming from Chicago, I was very used to small local restaurants but this made it very similar to the small local business from there. Amazing food for brunch! Dined at Cappy's last weekend. Was disappointed. We order the Field Greens salad for an appetizer. That was excellent. We also ordered 2 the prime rib dinners. The vegetables were hot, the mashed potatoes were barely warm, and the prime rib was barely warm. Half of it was fat. After removing the fat from both prime ribs, you could have made another prime rib portion. Have noticed that at nicer restaurants, if you do not order alcohol, then your service suffers. I know that alcohol raises the tab, but not everyone drinks. Twice, we had to ask our server for additional water. I guess he thought that because we were not going to have a big tab, he didn't have to give us good service. We noticed that the table next to us was getting excellent service, but they were also drinking alcohol. We finish our meal by ordering coffee. We left a 20%+ tip, but don't think that he deserved it. Why does good service depend on whether you are drinking alcohol or not????? Wait staff need to remember that lousy service, for any kind of purchase, can also mean lousy tips. Tipping is not mandatory. read more

I have celebrated two father day brunches at Cappy's and many visits in-between. I am a fan of brunch, lunch and dinner. If anyone follows my reviews they might have noticed I appreciate and drool over "freebies". The "freebies" are the bread that comes out before the meal and the candy that comes with the check. Simple touch adds to the experience. I toot Cappy's horn on a bunch other things and all my close friends know that they serve my favorite burger but I have to give props to the scone "freebie". During brunch they will bring out mini scones with strawberry butter. My mouth is watering as I type this review. Those sconces are amazing and I use all my strength to not ask for a refill. The brunch is yummy and the coffee is brewed perfectly. Just in case you want a simple breakfast it is not on the menu but you can order eggs and bacon. I spent about $40 bucks on my last visit. Pricey ... yes but I feel like we got a lot of delicious food and it was worth every penny. I have never had amazing service but the food makes up for whatever the issue is. When it is busy its busy and the waiters will miss things but I will not stop recommending Cappy's. Just in case you didn't catch it ... THEY HAVE THE BEST BURGER!!! The bun, Kobe meat, cheese and cooked perfectly thick bacon will win a burger competition in my book! read more

Food was awesome, atmosphere on the patio was wonderful, alcoholic libation was wonderful and I would've given this place for stars, however service was sub-par. We went there on a Sunday morning for brunch, arriving before the after church crowd. We entered through the front of the restaurant (even though we parked out back, we walked all the way around) and were warmly greeted. We were given the option to sit either inside the restaurant or out back; since it was a nice October day, we opted for seating on the patio. Each table has a can of Bug Spray, which we did not need to use. The next time I go to Kauai, I may suggest this to some of the restaurants with outdoor seating. The patio has several nice trees surrounding it providing nice shade (at least in the morning, am not sure how shady it is throughout the day). We sat for about five minutes waiting for a server, watching other tables receive service and being ignored by the water gal, since we didn't have water glasses at our table. She looked over a few times, and even made to come our way with the pitcher of water, but alas, as we had no glasses and since her job was to only pour water into glasses that were already on the table, we were bypassed. A family of four, who were seated after us at the table next to us, were served before we were. There waiter showed up promptly to take their drink order and to provide the magical water glasses. We watched other wait staff serve other tables without stopping to see if we needed anything. As we were considering leaving, as we appeared to be invisible, the waitress finally arrived. In her defense, she apologized for the delay and at first while she was prompt and conscientious, by the end of our meal, we were ignored once again. Oh wait, we were given water since we now had the magic water glasses. The food was excellent, albeit pricey. I had never had sweet potato hash browns and they were excellent. I seriously regret that I can't come here every single weekend. After spending a wonderful Friday evening and Saturday in the hill country, my bf and I decided we'd take a detour on our way back to Houston for brunch in San Antonio. I was charged wtih the task of picking a place...a lot of pressure since it would set us back an hour in travel time. Obviously, I consulted Yelp and made a reservation for brunch at Cappy's. Thankfully, it was well worth the hour. We were seated at a cozy table upstairs and our service was great. I had the Hombard eggs. So. Good. I'm very picky about eating eggs out and I sometimes get a little grossed out. I'm weird like that. But these were life changing eggs with crab meat and lobster. Bacon and eggs feels so pedestrian now. My bf had the special. Lamb with some other deliciousness. We were both very happy with out choices. I was also really please that my request for a mimosa sans OJ + cranJ was easily accomodated. Our creme brulee at the end was nothing to write home about, but otherwise we had such an awesome dining experience. I also saw they serve brunch on Saturdays too. Best restaurant in Alamo Heights for years but this review is specifically for their handling of pandemic with curbside pickup-- so easy, efficient, staff is always SO friendly. I am never disappointed when I come here. I have come for brunch several times and for dinner a couple of times. I especially enjoy eating outside on the patio on a warm day. I have only dined inside once and it was louder than I prefer, so I will stick to going on warm days and enjoying the outdoor seating. The wait staff has always been nice and helpful. The food is always great! I often get the Mustang Chicken (so good!), but my favorite dish I have had there was the Duck. Unfortunately, the duck was a special off-menu item, and I have not been lucky enough to have it again. They should make this a regular item because it is the best duck I have had! My boyfriend usually gets the Sunday Breakfast, which is a piece of steak, pancakes, and eggs... maybe something else, I can't remember! He loves it and gets it almost every time. Had brunch at cappy's with wife and family on a recent Sunday morning. I'd recommend having a reservation- we didn't , but after a short wait (we had some good mimosas at the bar by the door) - we were led outside to a lovely shaded courtyard with fans- very comfortable. Another wonderful Sunday brunch. Open Table reservation was right on. Strongly recommend reservations ALL employees are the best.
