The food is fine but they are EXTREMELY slow. And a lot of the time I've seen no obvious reason for the wait. My last visit I was the only customer. They discontinued their sweet and sour sauce for their chicken. They have a new Coleslaw and it is NASTY. Changes in supplies/food should be posted for the consumer. The cashier was the most unfriendliest, management needs to put her in the back as a cook or dishwasher. After years of visiting, I won't be returning anytime soon. Might give the Staples Mill location a try and take my own dipping sauce and coleslaw LOL. read more

Their food has gone way downhill. Their fish was so over salted we couldn't eat it they changed the coating and it wasn't good. We went twice we went last night and two weeks ago both times they did not ask us if we wanted to add shrimp to our meal there was a sign in the window that said You Get It Free if they don't ask. two weeks ago they didn't ask and the guy said it was in our bag... it was not. He lied. When we went last night they did not ask again the same guy lied and said we didn't ask and then said his manager confirmed that he HAD asked but he never even spoke to anyone else inside so he lied again. This location was very clean. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The food came out in a reasonable time and was well prepared. Captain Ds for fast food fish is a pretty good bet if you don't want a burger and are in the mood for something different. I like the fact that they offer fried and grilled dishes. read more

First, let me say that we do not sit down and eat here, we always go in the lobby to get takeout meals. I have used the restroom, which was clean, and while the decor is a little dated, it seems okay. There are regulars that go in here, sit down and stay a while and the staff seems to know them and be friendly to them. So, I can't speak to ambiance, to facilities, or to anything other than the front staff and food. Now, the good. What a bargain! We go here at least 2 times a month for their fish family value meal. You get a TON of fried fish planks (10 or 12, can't remember), a bunch of sides and condiments for really cheap. I can feed 4-5 for around $18-20? And the fish is so good that we end up eating a piece or two in the car before we even get home. They are always able to customize our side dishes, skipping the fries, getting baked potatoes in their place for a healthier alternative. We split the other sides between cole slaw and green beans. The front cashier staff is friendly and the food is always really well made. They package it up really nice in multiple containers and bags, asking what condiments we need and generously providing them. The kitchen staff is quick!! The food is all made fresh and piping hot. Never any mistakes when we got home, not even a burned hush puppy, ever! If you like fish, trying to feed a family, trying to pair fish with some healthier alternatives, need a quick dinner one night, stop by and give it a shot. Very good food, friendly people and quick service, all for a great value. Can't ask for more from this type of establishment. read more

THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. I ordered a chicken tenders kids meal & had a coupon for a fish and fries dinner. I pulled off with the wrong order (ended up with 2 crab cakes dinners which would've been an upgrade had I liked seafood, my bf enjoyed his). I called and spoke with a manager who said that my name would be in the book for a replacement. I come back for the replacement and another manager says to come back YET AGAIN to soak to another manager. I speak to him over the phone and he basically says in lying about the whole experience. It was a lot of hassle for 2 dinners that didn't even total $10. Will never go back. read more

WORST Customer service experience EVER!!! DOUBT we will EVER go back and neither will anyone else I can tell in Ashland!!! My husband and I drove 20 minutes to this location, as we have done many times before, to order our family meal. As we sat at the drive thru marquee, I saw a sign above for 10 piece for $21.99. We advised the attendant that we had a coupon for $19.99. Upon arriving at the window to pay we were informed they do not take coupons via phone (time to move up into 2018 folks), so I agreed to pay the $21.99 price. The guy/manager on duty rudely informed me the price was $22.99. We went back and forth for a few minutes (as if I was wrong). I told him the posted sign shows differently and was happy to show him. While another customer was waiting in line, I had to get out the car and walk back to the drive thru sign and show him. Even when I showed him, he made it a point to show on another part of the sign the price for $22.99. I said, maybe it's a special. He INSISTED that if I wanted to get the food, I had to pay $22.99. SERIOUSLY...He even left the $21.99 sign up. My husband went inside to ask the manager could he honor the price, at this point, he advised my husband that he was now trespassing and he would call the police. WOW.........When your food is mediocre (typical fast food and the fish keeps getting smaller and smaller), AND your employees threatens to call the police, then that is enough for me to go elsewhere....and to let everyone I know to do the same. I had been here a couple times before and everything was fine. I had been to better Captain D's but this one was okay. Until this last visit. The people were friendly enough but you just got that vibe that they didn't really care. BF and I both got 3 piece fish dinners, his with coleslaw and fries, mine with baked potato and salad. My fish was one step away from being burned beyond recognition. We left being not really satisfied at all. The really bad thing is my BF woke up at 2am puking his guts out, Pretty sure he got food poisoning from the coleslaw :/ read more

My boyfriend was craving seafood for lunch so we decided Captain D's would be quick and easy since we were out running errands. We went through the drive-thru and it took us 10 minutes until we even got to the spot where we could order. We waited another 20 MINUTES before we even got to the window to get our food! Once we got to the window they had "forgotten" what we had ordered and we had to repeat our order and WAIT ANOTHER 15 MINUTES FOR OUR FOOD AT THE WINDOW. You would think that during this time things were moving so slow because they were actually having to make fresh food. NOPE, not the case. We got soggy food that tasted as if it had been sitting out for I don't even know how long. All while dealing with an extremely rude employee who pretty much threw our food to us through the window once it was finally ready without giving us the sauce we had asked for twice. As a former employee to this resturant, I learned a lot about eating out. & no my review isn't because I'm a bitter ex employee, I left on my own terms once I realized how much of a horrible place this is to work. For starters, don't eat here. None of the "cooks" wear gloves when preparing your food. There are selected deep fryers for certain types of fish but that doesn't matter to them, it's always mixed up. So much for the people with certain allergies. Nothing is fresh. It all comes frozen and is microwaved. The biggest issue I have with this places is, they drop food on the floor and pick it back up & continue to use it. I witnessed the management pick a piece of the battered fish (before it was battered) from the floor that had been on the floor long enough to thaw out, place it back inside the freezer & reuse it. Also the manager told several employees to get the fish out of the trash cans & use it. His words were "that's my food cost & it's still good". Not to mention shrimp is dropped while being prepped and still used. His logic is "the oil is hot enough to kill the germs". Just disgusting. They don't care about their customers at all. Stay away from this place. I can't speak on other Captain D's but this one is horrible. All OSHA & the local health department needs to do, is watch the cameras & this place would be shut down read more
