Captain D's often gets a bad rap, and honestly, I'm not sure why. This Jacksonville location has been delivering consistency for decades -- and that reliability is exactly what keeps me coming back. The staff here is genuinely one of the highlights. They are very attentive, super friendly, and immediately put you in a good mood the moment you walk in -- especially the woman at the register, who is an absolute pleasure. I ordered the Combo Platter lunch special with fried shrimp, fish, and chicken, and it was exactly what I hoped it would be -- solid, satisfying comfort food at a price that actually makes sense. My experience with Captain D's was pleasurable. The food taste very good and the service was very pleasant. The eating area was also clean.

I have had some issues with this location in the past, and hadn't been in awhile, but returned recently and was very pleased! When I first walked in, I immediately noticed how clean the restaurant looked and smelled. Apparently, they have a manager now who really knows his stuff because my to-go order was served promptly and was very good. So good in fact, that I returned a week later for more! I am going to start off with saying up until this evening I had nothing to say bad about this location!!! We have been going to eat here at least 3 times a month if not more since it's just a few minutes away from home and just a little out the way on our way home from working all day I never had a issue for being pulled up to wait on my food because it was always good and I would always tip the gentlemen at the window but this evening was different .... Though the lady was very nice and respectful which is why I gave 2 stars was for her ... When I got home and got settled down to start to eat I noticed my fish was a lighter color then normal not thinking of it because it could of been new grease .... NO it was undercooked so was the fries and the hush puppies as well !!! Very disappointed I'm not going to call cause it would be useless and I'm not going to go back up there after I done got home and comfortable and just wanted to eat my dinner .. so instead both dinners went into the trash and I lost my appetite biting into a piece of frozen fish ... I never write NEGATIVE REVIEWS, but this CAPTAIN D's deserves a special mention! I ordered the largest two LOBSTER SEAFOOD PLATTERS, as well as a couple orders of large LOBSTER BISQUE. Website said it would be ready in 15 minutes, I arrived in the drive-thru 17 minutes later and asked if I could drive-thru and pick up my $30.00 order, he said yes, pull up. I sat at the window for 5 minutes, no food! A car drove up behind me, he says pull up past the drive-thru, which I did! I sat there for 15 minutes as cars were ordering at the window, getting food and leaving. After 15 minutes I decide to go to the counter inside. I stood at the counter waiting, as others were, finally an employee says, here's your order already sitting on the counter as he hands it to me. Anyone in their right mind knows when a drive-thru employee says, "pull forward", you expect an employee to bring your order out to your car. NOT CAPTAIN D's ON MAIN STREET. I was there, AFTER ORDERING ONLINE, for 20 minutes waiting in my car. I got home, very frustrated, by the way, and dug into my order. 1. IT WAS COLD AFTER A TRIP HOME OF ONLY 5 MINUTES 2. THE LOBSTER BISQUE WAS TOTALLY NOT CONSUMABLE, tasted like CRAP! 3. THE LOBSTER BALLS WERE MORE LIKE SPOILED HUSHPUPPIES, BUT WITHOUT ANY LOBSTER! 4). THE SHRIMP WAS EDIBLE, BUT DEFINITELY FROZEN! 5). THE FISH WAS OK, JUST GREASE DRIPPING EVERYTIME I PICKED UP A PIECE! Lent is here again, and Captain D's serves up compliant meals hot and tasty. I fast intermittently so this time of the year involves a double fast. This past Friday I was not in the mood to cook when I remembered we received coupons in the mail. There was a fish and chips special that was more than $3 off the regular price. I hopped in my car and headed to Captain D's. I pulled in and saw the familiar line of cars so I opted to go inside. Folks, if you want your food hot and fresh, then you must know that it takes time to cook your food. Seriously, just because they have a drive-thru does not mean they can prepare fresh food within 60 seconds. I was greeted when I entered and joined others in line. All the customers were pleasant, some even cracking jokes about how they might need to amend their orders because this Friday night brought in many customers. The staff handled the rush with grace. As my order was bagged, the lovely lady showed me everything in my order and asked me to verify it was correct. It was, so I thanked them and made the long 3-minute drive back home. The hush puppies were some of the best I've had--and I've been eating here for 30 years. They were crisp and flavorful, but not dry or burnt. The fries were well-salted and crispy. The fish was crispy and devoid of grease that accumulates from sitting around under a heat lamp. I know Elites will turn their noses at a chain review. I ordered a large Pepsi. After drinking it to pour out the ice I found a long piece of hair. I threw up my food.

I work a 2nd shift and get off at ten at night. Friday night i got to the drive through right at 11. They took my order, told me to pull around, then shut the lights off and didn't tell me a single thing. Wouldn't come to the drive through window to let me know anything.
