Awful experience. I took a chance and it backfired so don't make the same mistake. I made an appt and dropped my car off. Took an Uber back and forth, came back when I told them I needed my car, and they didn't even complete half the work - particularly the main reason I made the appt - even though they had my car for 3.5 hours. 1) Called ahead to ask if an appointment was needed for tire rotation. They replied "No appointment needed" an hung up. 2) Was told to were face mask prior to entering property. Sign on door. NO MASK NO SERVICE. Three people entered premises Without Mask, owner said nothing to them. 3) Mechanic was informed by myself that a proper tire rotation requires tires to be rotated by crisscrossing them, he replied "they wear even this way," When I later brought the matter to the owner, his reply "That's the old way," 4) They could not provided an oil change "we do remove to panel that protects the oil pan. We don't remove those." This store is ran by someone who needs a properly trained mechanic. I wasted my time and learned that U should not assume all reputable car repair/service locations really know what they are doing. read more

Have gotten my oil changed there twice. The manager Brandon remembered who I was and was very hospitable and helpful while I waited. Even brought me a water bottle. They always let you know different things that need to be fixed or updated in the car but I've never felt like they were pushy with getting them done. I also appreciate the fact that they'll explain why those repairs are necessary but that it's still your car and your decision. BAMMMM!!!! (pothole) DAMMMM!!! (me) Brand New Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring caught a pothole not far from Car X. I pulled in and told them what happened. Jerry was sent out by asst. mgr. Tom, (yeah...don't go there...) to fill my flat dead sidewall blown out tire with enough air to get it inside on the lift. Jerry was searching diligently all over to find my tire, while Tom was seeing what could be done. Jerry told me he could get the tire (a bit of a specialty tire) the next day. Tom said the sidewall is SHOT. Jerry encouraged me FIRST to check with my dealer because I may be covered. WHA!!!!??? No trying to force an unnecessary purchase on me? HOLY _ _ _ _!! 2 Honest Guys??? Tom put on my space saver, and they refused my trying to offer to pay for what they did! As it turns out, my dealer Valley Honda said I had the TITANIUM Protection Package. They have the tire in stock, and it is fully covered! Tom and Jerry may be a distance from my home, but I would definitely consider driving farther for the excellent CUSTOMER SERVICE they gave me. I needed new front and rear brakes and a new exhaust system. CarX Glen Ellyn quoted me a price that was 1/3 the price of the dealer. They also repaired several small lingering issues and only charged me for the parts. I brought my car in mid-morning and Mike and his team had me out the door 5 hours later. I had a good friend, who's a car junkie, inspect the work and he was very impressed with the labor from CarX. Five stars for me! read more

Went once a couple of years ago with coupon for just an oil change. Had an appointment and still had to wait about an hour or so. Had just gotten new wiper blades and a couple of new tires on my car and they told me I needed all new tires and new wiper blades among other things. We're quite insistent. Against my better judgement I just went back again today. Had an appointment again and was told it would be a while as they had several other cars ahead of me. Said at least another hour or so before they even start my car and then 45 minutes or so for oil change. Would not give me any estimate on how long. Seems they make appointments but still take walk ins on a first come basis. Also seem a bit shady as they look For reasons to sell you services you don't need. He mentioned when I asked how long the wait was well we don't know because we don't know what other issues were going to find with the cars ahead of you. Was not going to sit for 2 hours and wait for a cheap oil change only to be pressured on paying for things I don't need. The protective plate underneath my car was torn off by driving through the heavy rain last week (between Roosevelt and Fawell on Lambert). I had to s-l-o-w-l-y drive my car to Car-X (bottom was dragging and didn't want to pay over $100 for a less than 3 mile tow). Anyway, BRAD and RAUL were AMAZING. They were able to put my car up right away, identified the problem (some bolts were ripped off by rain/water pressure) and FIXED everything within 15 minutes. They were VERY FAIR with the pricing. I was so pleased (and relieved AND grateful). I have given this Car X my business before and will continue to do so!! read more

Had a coupon for an $18 oil change for this place. Called on a Tuesday and scheduled an appointment for 10am Saturday. I didn't end up leaving there until 11:30am due to them being backed up. An hour and a half for an oil change....really??? Guess making an appointment was pointless. The oil change included tire rotation which I asked them not to perform, but what do they do anyways.....rotate my tires. Slow service and sub par customer service. I am going to be brutally honest. Due to multiple personal reasons, I allowed my car to fall to the wayside. They did a diagnostics on the engine and even had me come look at what was wrong with the car. They were honest with prioritizing what needed to be fixed. They take way too long and when you ask how much longer don't believe them. I took my car in for an oil change and it took over 90 minutes. Same thing happened to my husband. I asked how much longer twice and they said 5 minutes it was at least 35 minutes later I finally got my car back. read more

whoah there, 5 stars. these guys did not live up to the standard they set on my first visit. i've been back here twice more since my intial review. the owner, serhat, is usually always there, and he's very good about call backs, discounts, and basically just keeping you in the loop and getting the job done right. when he is out of town, it's like dealing with a bunch of chickens running around with their heads cut off. long story short: i took the car in saturday, and had to wait until tuesday for the part to come in. they suggest that i bring the car in tues, as the part "will definitely be there." i say i am going to take off work wednesday to MAKE SURE that i do not waste a day in vain if the part does not arrive in time tues. i think you know where this is headed... i call tuesday evening to make sure they have the part and ask about overnight drop off procedure. the part is not in. ol girl on the phone says she will call to check on it and call me right back. i receive no call back, and when i try their number again, it rings endlessly with no answer. i drive all the way out there, and basically have to drop it off first thing in the morning wednesday, then call them about 500 times at various points during the day to check on the status of the part/my car because they WON'T CALL ME BACK (even though i was told about 5 times throughout the day that i would be getting calls when this or that happened). come back, serhat, and tell your crew to get their shit together. read more

Negligent repairs, horrible customer service. Welcome to my first-ever one-star review. My usual mechanic was all booked up, but I wanted a quick oil change and tire rotation before a trip. Car X did the work quickly and charged a good price. However, as soon as I got in the car I noticed a clicking noise in the gear shifter that wasn't there before. The guy just said "I can't believe you've never noticed that before" and sent me on my way, miffed. Basically their crew threw the car into park too roughly and now it's my problem. But the real complaint: after a routine tire rotation, they failed to properly tighten the lugnuts on the tires! That same afternoon we had to pull over after the car felt shaky and made an odd noise. We realized that most of the lugnuts had not been put back on properly. One stud had fallen off completely and we took video of my husband unscrewing several of the others. They were so loose that he could remove them BY HAND. That's how close my tire was to falling off while I was going 65 miles per hour on the freeway with 4 lives in the car. I called Car X to alert them to this and got indifferent service from the manager. She immediately said there's no proof and how does she know I don't just want a lawsuit. What kind of business is this suspicious of its customers? I told her I was disturbed that she did not have more concern that her staff did something so dangerous to me. She said, "I am concerned, that's why I'm looking for a new mechanic." (!) "But you can't prove this was us and it's impossible for our drills to not tighten the nuts all the way." I will probably get my money back and be out one tire stud, but that's not what's important to me at this point. It was careless work and when confronted with a safety issue they were not interested. I was treated rudely when I was polite. Please don't entrust your family to this business or put up with this kind of service. These are the mechanics who give auto shops a bad rep. read more

I called this location and asked how much it would cost to get new brakes installed. After getting a price that seemed too good to be true, I drove over and handed my keys over for them to look at my car. While waiting I asked the same guy if that price was correct and he smirks and says "yea that's the price for brake pads... I can sell just the pads if you want." Apparently his goal was to get me in the store which he succeeded in doing. He failed miserably at getting my money and business because I quickly left after getting the estimate. read more

I was quoted a time to start of approximately 45 minutes. Since I live right around the corner I decided to walk home and wait. Two and a half hours later it hadn't even been started. My 25 year old Toyota's exhaust was sounding a little too loud to be normal. So took it to CarX in Glen Ellyn in my neighborhood to see how much money down the drain on a car at just about life's end. The manager put it on a lift and diagnosed it as either needing tightening of the front exhaust pipe to the manifold or a new gasket at that connection. Asked me to leave it there so the engine could cool down to look at it more closely later. Came back in a couple hours and was given the keys with no charge. It just needed a screw tightened attaching the pipe to the manifold that had loosened or never was screwed in properly. Car's exhaust is now extremely quiet as originally. Kudos to CarX Glen Ellyn for not looking for ways to charge and for the very nice manager in finding the solution with no charge. I'm coming back for all my service needs, as this shop has completely gained my trust. read more

My mother, who is a disabled senior citizen, had her brake lines fail with brake fluid leaking everywhere and almost total loss of braking. We took her car to Car-X and they replaced the brake lines, but later that same day she noticed a large amount of brake fluid was leaking in her driveway again. (Thankfully she saw this right away and didn't drive it anywhere and get into an accident.) No longer trusting the mechanics at Car-X to do the job right, she took her car to another mechanic who came highly recommended by a friend. This mechanic noticed several major issues with the Car-X repair that caused the leak, such as a loose bolt and improper splicing of brake lines, and fixed the problems. After contacting Car-X and providing them with written proof of the issues found and properly repaired by the other mechanic, they refused to refund our money, even after speaking with their district manager. I can understand that minor issues sometimes arise with car repairs, but when you're dealing with an important safety component such as brake lines, you need to get it right the first time. read more

I had a flat tire on my way to work. Fortunately it occurred just yards away from a car-x! These guys were incredible, especially the manager, Andy. At first, when it seemed like the car would take longer than I could wait for, (I was already late to work) and I couldn't leave work to come get my car when the shop closed, Andy offered to drive my car keys to work for me. That goes above and beyond customer service! Then, turned out they could change my tire right away. I was in and out within 20 minutes. I had to get a resonator pipe for a new car I just purchased and when I called in the morning to see how much it would run, Matt (the store manager) was very accommodating by telling me the exact cost and how long it would take to order the part. He was able to get the part in by that afternoon and I was able to get my car repaired within an hour. Additionally, everyone I met at the shop was very professional, personable (which isn't always present at a repair shop) and extremely hospitable. I even had a problem getting my front license plate holder off of my car and they helped me do it free of charge. We have used the Car-X at 480 Roosevelt Road in Glen Ellyn a number of times in the past two years. They have exhibited the most integrity of any auto repair service that we have ever used. They perform quality work at a competitive price and honestly told us more than once, that we did not need a particular service we thought we did, saving us from needlessly spending money. We have also done follow up visits with them with questions or a need for a minor additional service, and they did those at no additional charge. On our Volvo they have done brake service, tune-ups, non-warranty factory recommended maintenance and oil changes. We highly recommend them for all their car services. read more

They removed my review from a two years ago, so I am going to make sure it's back here so everyone knows to avoid this place like the plague. The manager lied to me, tried to rip me off and they are completely incompetent with keeping their time. I went in to get new tires. The manager called me and said they couldn't take off my tires without removing my pressure censors because they were "in the way". I told him to wait for me to get there with my husband, because he knows a lot about cars and I know nothing. We were there in 10 minutes. When we arrived, my tires were all on the ground and the mechanic had all my pressure censors in his hand. I asked why he took them off without my permission, since I had spoken to the manager. He got all flustered and and defensive and when I put him on the spot for why he lied to me, he looked me in the eye and said "They fell off." As if I was the dumbest idiot on the planet. I was like, "You've got to be joking. I just talked to you 10 minutes ago and told you NOT to take them off until I got there and told you to." He was sputtering nonsense and saying I could pay them to replace the censors. $80 each. I seriously cannot believe they are still in business. I called the regional manager to complain and he didn't do anything for me. He spent 2 minutes telling me that my situation was unfortunate and he was sorry, but didn't do anything to offer me a refund or some sort of credit for the mechanic breaking off all my tire pressure censors without my permission. These people are scam artists and liars. Avoid at all costs. read more

The mechanic and Manager, Brandon, attempted to swindle me. In the heat of August, I was new to Glen Ellyn, and I needed an oil change. They offered and inexpensive oil change so I went for it. After the oil change, during which I waited in a room in which all of the seats are placed by windows that caused the room to be burning hot, the mechanic and Brandon asked me to come into the garage so that they could show me a "problem" that they had found with my car. The car was elevated so I was able to walk under it with them. They pointed out some fluid dripping from the front end of my vehicle. They told me it was power steering fluid and I needed the power steering replaced for over $1000. I couldn't say anything. I was stunned at the attempt to cheat me out of that much money on my first visit. I called my family friend that used to be a mechanic to tell him about this atrocity. He said it was baloney, as we all know, the power steering doesn't need attention til you hear the dreaded screech it makes when you turn the wheel even ever so slightly. The liquid was my air conditioning condensing, obviously. I will never go back, and I recommend that anyone that wants to get maintenance done in Glen Ellyn use Lord's, and if you want body work then go to Larry's. read more
