4/13/21 4:45 pm. Based on the empty bins and shelves it's clear this place is NO JOKE! I arrived very close to closing. Although I purchased the items at a significant savings the counter person was excellent. Full price treatment. LOL This gentleman greeted me with old school professionalism friendly enough and efficient. I LIKE! In my order I received the most delicious dinner rolls, at home everyone was pleased. The ciabatta bread will be part of the breakfast sandwich menu at the house tomorrow. I pulled off an corner ummm rustic yumminess. There was a most delicious cheese loaf that was flavorful throughout with a bold 'yellow' cheddar color. You know the kind that needs a good bowl of minestrone soup?! Yep that kind. Not just an awesome bakery with great bread but we went for a breakfast cheesesteak and it was amazing

Stromboli is long but not wide, it is the size of Italian bread. Got the Italian and cheese which is pepperoni and capicola with mozzarella cheese. It's very fresh. You can take home in a box or paper bag. To heat it up just put in 400 degree oven for about 5 to 10 minutes. Very simple but delicious. You can slice and make it as appetizer for a party maybe wit marinara dipping. read more

Wonderful hospitality and genuine care for everyone that was socially distancing and ordering. As soon as you open the door, it smells amazing- the variety of breads and beautiful pastries! I had the pistachio muffin and it was decadent- full of flavor, perfectly moist with the most delicate crust on top- divine! The iced coconut latte Santino prepared was superb- smooth, just the right balance of sweet coconut, savory Colombian coffee and creamy milk. Also left with a loaf of rye bread and and artisan loaf of bread that my dinner guests savored. Definitely go and check this place out! read more

I usually don't share long stories but here goes... The Best Danish I ever had is located about 100 Miles away at my wife's old college cafeteria ... it's legendary. Over the years we made the drive there just to have one. It's been compared to multiple times to local bakery's,pastry shops and cafe's ever since. It's been brought up in conversation and talked about for years, since 2002 to be exact. Ok, you get the idea. It was an amazing freaking danish. I'm pretty sure I found a cheese danish that is comparable or possibly even better... I'm stopping back in again with my better half to get her opinion. Amazing Danish and La colombe coffee. This was a rare and unexpected find. We were driving into Philadelphia to play tourist for the day. We had to get off the Interstate for a potty break and trusted some app that said there were facilities at this particular exit - turned out to be a major sports complex where all the local major league teams play. So we drove a few blocks and found a 'cafe' - thinking for sure there would be facilities - there were not, but he referred us to a business a few doors down and there were no issues. We ordered a couple of cups of coffee and I had this most amazing cheese Danish and Ellie had a slice of Pepperoni Pizza that was as equally great. We sat outside at the single table and enjoyed taking in the whole ambiance of Philly as Philly is, and not the sterile touristy places. It was awesome. As we were taking photos (being in tourist mode), the owner engaged us in some conversation. He would have liked to talk more, but had somewhere to be. Before he left, he offered us a complimentary loaf of the most amazing Italian Bread (crostini) - the kind I remember my dad eating all the time. In my search yesterday for ingredients for a good home cooked South Philly meal, this was my choice for the bread. Given that it was 5pm on a Monday, this was one of the choices that was still open. So I decided to come here seeing that it had a few good reviews. The seeded roll did not let me down as it was of very high quality and made for the perfect garlic bread once I got home. I also sampled a couple of slices of the pizza. Quite tasty. Sauce had a decent tang to it. And I'll always be a fan of pizza squares that have been sitting out for a bit. Cold pizza is a joy of life! They don't have any drinks to go with the pizza. No water or soda for sale. That's unfortunate. Then I think about the more swoon-inducing sandwiches in my life; like John's Roast Pork for example. Carangi's hugs my favorite pork! I just moved here from NYC 3 months ago. I used to get what I thought was the best bread for the buck at the NYC bakeries. I was surprised at the quality of Carangi's bread. Not only is it easy on the wallet but its a great family owned business in the neighborhood. Carangi's is an all-around good bakery. Their bread is fresh. Their bagels are pretzel wanna-bes, with a slightly crisp exterior and a soft, doughy interior. But that aside, go for the pizza. Similar to Senape's in Hazleton, where the square crust pizza can be enjoyed hot or cold. I prefer mine slightly toasted in a toaster oven, but maybe it depends on the kind of slices one orders - they sell grandma, w/ mozzarella (which I usually purchase, and recommend), & sundry toppings. The main drawback is the coffee, which the bakery hypes but doesn't quite get right. It's better than 7/11 coffee, though, truth be told. read more

This place is cash only. I usually only have a dollar and some change on me so I just buy coffee. This morning I had $4 and was hoping to get a breakfast item and then grab a coffee at work. To my surprise I got a fresh bagel and a large La Colombe coffee for $3.50! The owners are so nice, their bagel guy looks like a model, and the townies are small talking with the employees. I am so happy I can walk from my home to here. For those of you that are not aware, Johns Roast Pork buys their bread from Carangi and it is the bread that makes for great cheesesteaks. Their seeded Italian loaf is the best and freshest in the city. Did you ever have tomato pie? Try theirs and you may never eat pizza again. Carangis is like Liscios and Cacia's. They all make fresh rolls with no additives. That means they have a short shelf life, but you are getting true goodness. Amoroso's on the other hand can last forever, but lack the freshness. I would review Amoroso's and give it one star but Yelp always puts my one star reviews in the non recommended category. Guess the fix is in. read more
