One of the best places I ever ate at. After a long day of hunger, we decided to give this place a shot. At first, it might be not obvious to see the place. After we got in, we were warmly welcomed by the staff. We were asked to sit wherever we liked. First, we looked at their menu which was very easy to follow. We decided to go with Lentil Soup, and Tikka masala. Both tasted amazing, and their Chai has a different taste which made it really tasty. I honestly do not understand the high reviews for this restaurant, as when I went there with friends I experienced painfully slow service, miniscule portions, and under spiced and incredibly bland food. The only dish in my party that was appetizing and tasted fresh was the lamb kebab. The chicken tikka masala had literally five small bite sized pieces of chicken in a bland sauce, and my other friends were similarly disappointed. Having sampled many similar dishes both overseas and in the U.S., this was one of my worse experiences. I would not recommend to people that I like. read more

This is a very unusual place ... the menu has Indian food, Mediterranean food and some Eastern European dishes. Between the two of us my husband and I tried the cauliflower soup, the stuffed chicken breast and the saag paneer, so we hit a few different regions. The chicken breast was a bit dry (hence not a 5-star review) but its sauce, stuffing and accompanying side dishes were wonderful. Now to the full 5 stars - the cauliflower soup, which had a delicious flavor, and the saag paneer - the spinach was well-flavored and the cheese pieces were abundant and just right in taste and texture. Basmati rice was also included, also a 5 in taste and texture. The ambience was charming - it is in what apparently used to be a private house. While I imagine it could get a bit noisy if it were full, and if customers were "partying," it was not unpleasant the night we were there. So I would not call it "quiet dining" yet the house itself is charming and nicely decorated so it added to the overall dining experience. Absolutely amazing food! Came here based on Yelp reviews and felt a little unsure about the place merely based on the aesthetics and the decor. But do not let that fool you! Hubby and I tried the caravan kabob combo, pomegranate chicken and chicken tikka masala with added naan and were blown away with presentation and more importantly the taste and quality of the food! I've eaten at a lot of places and know my Indian/Pakistani food and this place is definitely one of the best meals I've ever had. They truly nailed all the flavors of the different types of cuisines and everything was delicious! Sharika (our waitress) was also super nice and helpful. Hope to eat here again this week before we go back to LA and try some other dishes! read more

Wow! What variety in the menu...had a hard time deciding what to get. My wife started with the hot Kasmiri Chai, and it was addictive, it was so good (well, I had to try a bit as well). I had read about the pita bread being freshly baked, so we selected the baba ganouj....very nice! (However, I don't think they baked the pita bread there.) I also tried the munk soup - very hot and a bit spicy, but good. Moving on to dinner, I decided to try the butter chicken, always a favorite, while my wife selected the pomegranate chicken, stuffed with Walnut, Cranberry and Pomegranate. The butter chicken had some serious spices involved; not a light creamy flavor as I expected...but I really loved the taste of it! I also tried a few bits of the pomegranate chicken, and the sweetness was a nice counter to the spicy butter chicken. As for the service, we had no problem - we arrived late on a Saturday night (around 8:30pm) and there were only 2 other couples there. The seating was right away, and the waiter was patient while we looked over the menu. Once we ordered, the food came out without much of a wait, and we found out at the end of our meal that he was also the chef and owner! It's pretty unusual to be waited on by the chef! (Perhaps this can explain some of the comments about slow service...there's only so much one or two people can do.) It was nice to chat with the owner - very friendly! Anyway, we were very impressed with the food, and will definitely go back - I think it may take me quite a few visits to sample everything he has on the menu, but it will be well worth it! read more

Hidden gem in Edmonds. This place is easy so easy to miss and in such a random location! It's great though and very glad we tried it. We tried a date milkshake (banana, date, brown sugar) and it was amazing. I assumed it would be too sweet but it was light and fluffy. We ordered one if the dips with pita bread, the Lebanese one which was amazing. Also an order or dolmas which I'm not usually a fan of but these were great! We got the chicken tikka masala which was good but not fantastic. We ordered medium spice but they might have given is mild instead. Finally we had the homemade mint ice cream which was great. Surprisingly all that came to $37 so I would say the prices are pretty reasonable. We will definitely go back. read more

I continue to be completely mystified as to how this place gets such high ratings! After having tried it on three different occasions, we never had anything approaching being worthy of any praise. I rarely judge or review a place based on one experience, so after reading so many good reviews, we went back more than once. The service is very slow, which is fine, except for the food that's received after the wait is just not that great. I had pomegranate chicken on one occasion that was SO dry, it could not be swallowed without a drink of water. I had to literally saw through it with the knife to get a bite off of it, and it was practically unchewable! Like eating wood. It would have been a lovely dish if it wasn't cooked for hours to the point of being more dry than jerky! We have ordered dishes on two occasions, to then be told they are not available. My dining partner ordered a noodle dish on one of the visits that was actually tasty, but out of our three visits most of the food we received was pretty mediocre to outright inedible (a la sawdust chicken described above). On a final visit, we left after sitting at a table unattended for over 20 minutes. There is usually only one guy serving, and he disappears into the back for long periods. It was getting later and later and it seemed we had no hope of even ordering in the near future, so we went to find food someplace else before everything else closed. Sadly, a place that has a lot of potential to be good, but just doesn't live up to the reviews I've seen in any way. Everything is inconsistent, especially the food quality, and the service is glacially slow most of the time. Ate here for lunch yesterday by myself. It has been on my list for several months after reading an article about the place. I got to meet chef Shahzad. Nice guy and interesting to talk to. I can tell that he cares about his food as he has traveled around the world learning from the best. I ate the Chicken Tikka Masala Lunch special for $6.99. The portion was as expected and it tasted yummy...those are the flavors I will likely never learn to cook myself. I even had a take out of Saag Paneer for the BF. He liked it and we'll both be going back there someday. I'm looking forward to Pelimeni (comfort food for me) and the lamb dishes. I'll need to try the appetizers too: Russian Blintz, Spanakopita,..and all those kebabs. The place is clean and the service was perfect. It looks better than expected on the inside. read more

After reading so many rave reviews here on Yelp, my husband and I were delighted to try this out to celebrate our anniversary. Because at the moment, I have anosmia, and therefore have impared taste and smell, I feel reluctant giving any place 5 stars, but that doesn't take away anything from this restaurant. My initial reaction to the restaurant is that it is such a wonderful interior in a way that 98% of Seattle area restaurants are NOT! It is intimate, warm, charming, sparkly, and comfortable. The exact antithesis of most places which are cold, sterile, industrial, antiseptic, colorless, impersonal, and loud, thanks to an emphasis on reverberant hard cold surfaces. The average Seattle restaurant encourages you to hurry up and not linger. Every place is contemporary/urban/hipster. It is sooo boring! For a different atmosphere, with intimate charm, this is the place! The service was warm if somewhat quixotic. We had delicious cauliflower soup, the Persian salad, and spanikopita followed very quickly by the beautifully (and mercifully not overcooked) lamp chops, all in very quick succession, and then, no one asking us for dessert or anything else for quite some time. I'm sure this was simply an oversight. The lamb chops were succulent and tender, and served on the side were some beautifully prepared vegetables and basmati rice. My husband tasted and confirmed the goodness of everything for me, so I'm conveying his impressions also. I had the bougatsa for dessert, which I enjoyed, although I missed being able to taste the cinnamon, which my husband certainly did enjoy. We both had beers, with my preference being for the Russian lager over the Greek one. All in all, it was a delightful evening. For the record, the portions are adequate but not overly generous, so it is a good idea to order several things and share them. We will return in the near future, I'm sure! read more

I'm thrilled to have found this place! The food, the atmosphere, the value, the service, it's all great. Well, the first three are great, and the service is fine. The menu's eclecticism is, for me, a great strength. Mostly middle eastern and south Asian influences, with a small hard-core eastern European menu on page 3 for those craving assorted dumplings and dishes with cabbage. (The table next to ours was a large group of Russians, I think, so that's a vote of confidence.) I do wish they had more "sampler plate" options on the menu, so people like me -- who can't make their minds up - could try two or three dishes at once. I ended up trying the korma, which was delicious, aromatic, and subtle. My partner had a lamb dish, and the meat was tender and juicy. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. Even if the food were not quite as yummy, I'd probably make this place a regular haunt, for the cosy atmosphere. It's hard to find a restaurant that's not noisy, bustling, and clanging. Here, I felt we could linger and have long conversations. The decor is heavy on the drapes and cushions (I like that), which helps absorb noise, and makes it look like someone's living room. This place is WONDERFUL! I was looking for a place to cater my partner's 40th birthday and he wanted Mediterranean. I found Caravan Kebab on Yelp and realized that I'd driven by the place many times and always thought it was a sandwich shop. We checked out the place for dinner before committing to a large catering order and were blown away. The interior is charming and comfortable and the food is exceptional. I had the Lamb Saag and my partner had Pomegranate Chicken which was especially delicious. For the catering order (which I picked up) we got 2 entrees - Lamb Curry and Chicken Fesenjan, a wonderful salad, pakoras, spanakopita which was still warm from the oven (delicious!), rice, and baklava. There was a generous amount of food with lots left over. More than one of our guests called the Lamb Curry "amazing" - and it was - and wanted to know where the food came from. Everyone was happy and well fed and it made for a wonderful party. The gentleman who I'm assuming owns the place was really helpful, professional, and likable - and an amazing chef. My roommate and I had the vegetable pakora as an appetizer, which was better then expected coming from the poor advertising and the fact that we were the only people in restaurant. As for the main dish I had the chicken boti kebab; this was the best Chicken Kebab I have ever had. The service was good although the server seemed a little nervous. After reading some other reviews I decided to order the mint ice cream, and I'm glad I did; it is made with fresh mint and is by far the best house made ice cream I have had in a restaurant. This restaurant is in an unfortunate location hidden in fardale village next to two other fantastic restaurants. If you are on the fence about this place best just do it. It's worth it. read more

Great dinner spot. Love the decor and cozy vibe. Most of the food and drinks were outstanding! The hot chia tea is delish, but the cold mint tea was so overly sweet it was undrinkable. Loved the baba ganoush dip with pita, and both the Munk Soup and Cauliflower Soup were the perfect starters. The butter chicken curry wasn't the best, but the Caravan Kebab Combo is delicious...only issue was a couple pieces of chicken were under cooked. We ended the meal by sharing the Mint Ice Cream...it had an intriguing floral flavor from the fresh mint, rose water and cardamom, but it was also way too sweet. I lament the often terrible Indian food in Seattle and usually choose to cook myself at home, Caravan Kebab is the exception. After a friend who went twice recently raved about them, I was happy to have the opportunity to experience this fine eatery myself with my wife and son. We are big fans of Middle Eastern/Mediterranean/Indian food, and particularly the hard to find Persian cuisine, and apparently they do it all very well. We are very happy to have it tucked away in this sweet corner of Edmonds just over the border from us. We ate the Sultan's Combo (good sample of the meats, particularly the lamb and chicken, and a sauce that I missed from my Iranian friend's family as a youth) and Pomegranate Chicken (very tender and flavorful). At another visit I had the best Chicken Tikka Masala I've ever had and Fesenjan that I highly recommend. The mango lassi and date, banana, almond shake were very tasty as well as baklava, Napoleon, and chai for dessert. We look forward to trying new dishes w/their exquisite spices in the near future. The owners/operators are very sweet. Yes it's true that we had to wait a while for our dishes, but I don't believe it's due to any malice as one reviewer indicated, but rather because everything is made fresh and is rather complex.
