[[HIGHLIGHT]]Classic, rustic, and elegant. This restaurant makes you feel like you've stepped back to a time when quality and service were the top priorities. The exposed brick, rich wood accents, and dim lighting create the perfect atmosphere for a romantic evening.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was outstanding, attentive, professional, and very knowledgeable about the menu and drink pairings. The prime steaks were cooked to perfection, and the mac and cheese was absolutely amazing. For me, the real standout was the Butter Pie. It's an absolute must-try and the perfect way to end a fantastic dining experience. Highly recommended!

Came for one of my Bestfriends birthday and had a good time. Our man server Chandler was pretty great but the lady who sat down the bread and butter seemed to be in a rush or not interested in helping our table. I did however asked chandler if there was another flavor of the espresso martini I could order but he never got back to me with an answer. I ordered the prime skirt steak and truffle fries. The chimichurri that came with the skirt steak was some of the best I ever had and same goes for the truffle fries. I had the opportunity to try the Brussel sports, chicken Parmesan, Who Dey roll , Shrimp Tempura and Filet Scampi. To me the scampi was kind of salty. Some of the people I came with did have to send their food back to be cooked longer but the manger was really nice about the whole thing. If you don't like salt I would say don't get the bread! I made a mistake and bite into the crust and it was not pleasant. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is ever nice inside the restaurant and I'm glad I got to learn about the history of the building as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Been here many times and got a steak and the wife got the chicken so there are plenty of those pictures. Started off with oysters, east coast and west coast. I always do this as this is the only time I get to eat them since I am the only one that will eat them. Got our meal and as always it prepared well and delicious as well as the sides. It was our anniversary and we ordered a dessert but our daughter called them to have a dessert flight created for us. It was delicious and I have to say the staff is always top notch. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I've been to all the other Jeff Ruby's restaurants and I enjoyed them all but to me this is easier for parking and the tables are more spaced out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Every now and then you deserve a little indulgence, and Carlos & Johnny's never disappoints! This month they offered a special $65 surf & turf menu, and it was absolutely worth it. The food was amazing -- perfectly prepared and full of flavor. The service was just as impressive: friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. On top of that, the atmosphere is always lively and fun. It's such a great spot to relax, enjoy a fantastic meal, and hang out with friends. Consistently one of my favorite go-to places when I want a memorable night out. Highly recommend!

Just had an excellent meal at C&J. Chilean Sea Bass cooked perfectly. It was so tender. Mac & cheese and brussel sprouts were delicious. Split the Iceberg Bleu salad with my husband and the portion was still huge. Bleu cheese dressing was mild. Anticipating carrot cake we brought home for later! The food at any Jeff Ruby restaurants do not disappoint. Overall a great fine dining experience at Carlo and Johnny's. The waitress was super nice and friendly and attentive. The sushi, wedge salad and filet were all on point. I was a bit disappointed at the beer temp. Both of my Mich Ultra's were slightly cooler than room temp. Had to put ice from my other glass into my beer to help it out. Also, not complaining but just advising that dining here takes longer than normally expected. Our diner from start to finish took almost three hours. I was ready to go after that. All in all the food is amazing and definitely I would recommend it to see for yourself.

The tuna tartare followed, light and flavorful, setting us up perfectly for what is hands down my ultimate favorite: the blue crab bisque. Creamy, rich, and decadent, it's the kind of dish you'll think about long after you leave. For the main course, we shared an 8-ounce filet, cooked to perfection and topped with mushrooms and plenty of garlic butter. Paired with one of their signature blue cheese-stuffed martinis (truly the best martinis in town), it was unforgettable. To end the night, we tried the peanut butter mousse cake. While it was decadent and well-executed, my heart still belongs to their chocolate cake, which I'll definitely go back for next time. We go a few times a year for special occasions. We have yearly NYE reservations. Usually the service and food is impeccable. However, this year for NYE was less than impressive. The service was slow and honestly, not even decent. Waited almost 45 minutes for our dinner. The server was literally ghosting us. We saw her to place our order, give us our bill and ordered a dessert to take home with us. It took her over 30 minutes to bring our dessert and that's only AFTER we asked where it was! She "forgot" to bring it out! Super disappointed with our service. For a $400 meal for two, I absolutely expected better service. I can't say we won't be back, but I will say this was by far the worst experience I've had here. [[HIGHLIGHT]]And we were seated next to the fireplace which was unbelievably hot making our already poor service even a worse experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] All in all, I have to say, I could have gone to outback and had a better experience and saved $300. Pretty disappointed.

We worked with the Jeff Ruby team after a challenging first visit, and they took our feedback and were wonderful about everything, making us feel heard. Our second visit was excellent; everything was detail-oriented, food was great, and overall an excellent date night. As much as the steak was great, I have to recommend the Caesar salad as a surprising winner; I'm usually not a salad guy but it was easily one of the best ones I've had.

Everything was amazing! The oysters were great, both the way and west coast. The Wagyu filet was very tasty and tender. Many parts melt in your mouth. The salmon and risotto was also great and filling. The portion size was bigger than expected. The Mac and cheese was surprisingly good and very hot. The asparagus was cooked perfectly. Mash potatoes were good but nothing special. The creme brûlée was the best I'd had in a very long time. Definitely in the top 3 ever. And I get creme brûlée everywhere! read more

We usually go to the precinct and thought we would try Carlos and Johnnys as it's been a while since we've gone there. Service was horrible. We waited a half hour just to get a drink after being sat at our table. The server was hard to find and unattentive. Not at all what you would expect from a Rubys restaurant. When we received our streaks they were cooked properly and tasted good. Just seems crazy to have to go looking for your server at a nice restaurant. read more

For the amount of money spent here and with a reservation I would not expect to be seated at the bar but at a table. Yet that's where we were seated and next to some people that were very loud. Not an enjoyable evening. Won't be back unless guaranteed a table. read more

Had the worst meal ever at C&J. I come here often so this is rare and very unusual. I ordered the bone in rib steak and it was 90% fat. I showed my waiter and he removed it and ordered another one. Same problem but I kept my mouth shut and barely ate it. My wife's meal (fish) came overcooked. She didn't eat it or return it and didn't take it home either. I used to eat here all the time and love the food. However this may just have been a one off. The waiter should have said something because that's the way Jeff trains his staff. Ashley was amazing at organizing and accommodating our event and taking care of 14 young men and women for their junior prom. The space was beautiful and the kids felt like royalty for the evening. The food was outstanding they tell me and service could not have been better !!!! I frequent the JlJeff Ruby restaurants and in my opinion the finest place to dine in Cincy !!!! With vintage vibe and a 1920's gangster theme, this Jeff Ruby restaurant is my favorite of them all. It has the best layout and charm. Service is unparalleled: every time I visit my server makes us feel like we are their only table. Ask them for recommendations and advice about drinks and menu items, because they know it all! And the food? Listen, I've eat all over America and many parts of the world, and I've never had steaks like these. The crust is flavorful, and each bit melts in your mouth. I recommend any of the filets for first time visitors, and then branching out from there. You will have a wide arrangement of quality wines and beers, and I recommend selecting one of their signature cocktails to start with. Don't forget the sides! Every side is worthy of your consideration, but the macaroni and cheese is the stuff of legends. Each side is à la carte, and should serve 2 to 3 people. Save room for dessert! Dessert portions are large, easily shared between 2-3 people, and my personal favorite is their JB Cigar dessert. It's not just dessert, it's a work of art. Well after all this gushing I have to confess, even though this one is more than an hour away from where I live and typically costs 5 times what I want to spend at a restaurant, it's always worth it. Take your time here, it's not just a meal, it's an experience. read more

We had the filet and cold water lobster tail and enjoyed it immensely. Filet was perfectly cooked and seasoned with a tasty char. The mashed potatoes and asparagus were delicious. What can I say. Premiere steakhouse run by an excellent staff. Never a hiccup. The steaks, although pricey are the best around. Doesn't matter if it is ribeye, strip, or fillet. All are perfect. Best sides around and an exemplary wine list. Great place for a special occasion. read more

This was our first time dining here and it was very disappointing. My Caesar salad had no dressing, the lettuce was soft and I had to wait a good while to request dressing. My petite filet with collingsworth was sooo salty (and I like salt!) I had a hard time finding any other flavor. My husband's New York strip had a lot of gristle and the truffle corn was again mostly salt flavored. Over $300 and we left very disappointed in what we expected to be a special treat. read more

Absolutely wonderful. My date and I went here for our anniversary; the food,service and atmosphere were fantastic. We ordered the off menu $99 Filet Mignon and Lobster for two deal! It was well worth the price and exceeded all expectations. We received a bread basket with their delicious truffle butter, two filet mignons, two lobster tails and an option of two sides (we ordered the mashed potatoes and asparagus). The filet was cooked superbly (10+ stars :D). Each bite melted in your mouth and contained a charred flavor. I definitely recommend to order it medium rare. The lobster and sides were great as well. As for the service it was spectacular. They treat you with respect and are welcoming. Even though it took about 20 minutes for the food to arrive, they constantly checked up on us to make sure we were okay and if we needed anything. In the end, they even provided us with a complimentary scrumptious cheesecake that said "Happy Anniversary". It was adorable and a much appreciated (as well as unexpected) gesture. Tip: If you want to make your mashed potatoes even more delicious add the truffle butter to them! If I had to list one flaw, the lobster tasted good, but it was a little over cooked (~4 stars) Overall it was a fantastic experience and I definitely recommend coming to this place again. Parking is accessible and they offer both valet and free self parking. read more

My family and I came for the lobster and filet special. The food was fantastic, however the service was above and beyond. The hosts are very welcoming, and you are greeted by every employee as you walk to your table. Our server Joe was amazing! Kind, attentive, generous, respectful, and very funny. I couldn't ask for more! You can't beat the food, but you are definitely paying for the experience. Everyone we interacted with ensured we had a great time. Even walking to the restroom, the employees are eager to assist you. Not to mention the restaurant is beautiful. You can't go wrong with a single thing on the menu. I would highly recommend this restaurant for any special occasion. Truly a five star establishment! read more

It's no secret how much I love Jeff Ruby and just about anything he is associated with, so it was only a matter of time before I made it to Carlo & Johnny to check out what it had to offer. The layout is much different than his other restaurants, and it feels like a large home, rather than a traditional restaurant. The first thing that stands out is the raw bar, something I had not seen at his other locations. We enjoyed some of the largest shrimp I've ever seen and a king crab legs that was out of control. We enjoyed a drink at the very crowded bar before dinner and listened to the live music playing. The bar had a speakeasy vibe about it that was really nice. After we were seated at our table we enjoyed service of outstanding quality that feels personalized to you. Its the service I've always received at all of his restaurants. Not to mention this guy knows steak, no other steak ever compares. We were celebrating my sister's birthday and they even took our picture and put it in a frame for us both to take home. But the final touch came a week later when I received a thank you card from the manager delivered to my home. read more

I haven't left a review of a restaurant in years, so you know this is important. The boneless ribeye was the best steak I've ever had at a restaurant; the smoked old fashioned and house manhattan are also the best version of each I've had. My first night, Ashley and Katie treated me like a king. Tonight, Ashley and Kate did the same. My burger was not good in any respect, I have to say, but Ashley made it right by exchanging it for the salmon and brussels sprouts which were great. Kate made me an amazing whiskey sour and I only wish I didn't have to be up at 6am and the place didn't close at 10pm so I could stay and converse. They're the nicest people, best bartenders, and the scene is just amazing. If I ever come back to Cincinnati, I will make sure to stop by and hope Kate, Ashley, or Katie are behind the bar because I know I won't be let down! If you doubt me, I'll fight you. read more

Our experience was rather embarrassing. Three siblings all from different states and we expected a fantastic meal. Reservations were at 7:30, we didn't leave until 10. Our server said the kitchen was running behind. We all had the filet/lobster special. Both the lobster and filet were dry as heck. The asparagus was completely raw and inedible. Very disappointing considering we recommended the restaurant. At least the potatoes, oysters Rockefeller and scallops were decent. I wouldn't recommend the carrot cake. read more

This was our first time here. My husband and I had a really great experience. Everyone was so welcoming. The lights, colors, designs, and furniture was amazing and wonderful. The waiter was so hilarious. The food was spectacular. The best I have ever had. I will definitely go back there again in a heartbeat. We had a lot of fun there. I would recommend it for anyone. The service was fine, but the food did not live up to its reputation. My husband got the steak and was disappointed in it, taking half of it home. When he reheated it, however, it tasted better and he enjoyed it. My lobster was not that good. I have had better at Red Lobster but my steak was good. I am not a steak eater, so I don't know how it compares to others. It was our anniversary and they brought us a free sampler dessert which consisted of a cookie, a small small piece of cake and a spoonful of cheesecake which I considered a joke. Seriously our favorite place for special occasions and awesome steaks. Jeff Ruby has set the bar so high, we can't go to other steakhouses without comparing the food and service. My husband took me to Carlo & Johnny for my birthday dinner. We split the Freddy salad and the crab cake for an appetizer. I had the awesome Steak Burrow. They even threw in a birthday treat, the butter pie is so good it's criminal. Another awesome meal with them! Never a bad time. read more

My lady and I decided to come here on our fifth anniversary and I was certainly glad we did. The whole experience was fantastic from start to finish. Great service, amazing food, and a very cozy and inviting atmosphere. I made a reservation for us for 6pm on Open Table. When we arrived, we were greeted and seated right away. Our server, Katie, was VERY friendly and knowledgeable, answering every single one of our questions. We decided to start off with some East & West coast oysters (2 of each) and a bottle of malbec. The oysters were perfectly shucked and tasted very immensely fresh. We both liked the west coast better because of the bolder flavor. For our main course, my lady ordered the crab stuffed salmon, I got the butcher's cut steak (cooked medium rare), and we also got a side of mashed potatoes and truffle creamed corn. Every single bite of it all was fantastic! How could it have gotten better? Well, Katie made it even better by giving us a celebration sampler for dessert. Just the right amount of sweet tooth goodness to make our night complete. I'd never been to any of Jeff Ruby's places, but if this experience was quintessential of all his spots, then I'd venture to say they're all great. Definitely worth the money and the some. read more

Several people in my group said they'd tried multiple times without any luck. From what I've heard, Thursday at 5:00 is one of the easier reservations to get, because the Friday and Saturday 7:00 p.m. seatings disappear almost instantly. I've had sushi all over the country (although not all over the world), and this was hands down the best sushi I've ever had. The quality of the fish is incredible--they fly it in from Japan--and every course was beautifully presented. The pairings the chef came up with were amazing and really let the fish shine. The menu changes every day and every season, so you'll never have the exact same experience twice. One of my favorite surprises was the miso soup. The chef explained that the broth is made using the bones from the fish we were eating that evening, and it was honestly one of the best bowls of miso soup I've ever had. The only suggestion I'd make is to have a simple printed menu with the names of each course and maybe a few notes about the ingredients. The chef explains every course, but there are so many Japanese names and details that it's hard to remember everything by the time you leave. I would have loved something to take notes on or even just glance at while he was talking. The only other thing I noticed was that the ending felt just a little rushed. There are seatings at 5:00, 7:00, and 9:00, and by the end of our meal the next group was already waiting in the entryway. It wasn't a big deal, but it was noticeable. The experience is $115 per person, and the required 20% gratuity is paid when you make the reservation. You can also order alcoholic drinks during dinner. At the end, the chef offers an optional add-on (ours was either a $30 bowl or a $12 roll). I skipped it because it featured a type of fish that usually isn't my favorite, but after seeing what the chef did with everything else, I was honestly tempted to give it a try. Maybe next time. This was one of those meals that you keep thinking about long after it's over. Everything was thoughtful, beautifully prepared, and absolutely delicious. I can honestly say it's the best sushi I've ever had, and I'd love to come back every season to see how the menu changes.

If you've never had conveyor belt sushi or you just want to try something a little unique to the Cincinnati area, Kawa is the place. It is amazing how you can have the same meal at different locations and have such a disparity in your experience. I have been dining at Jeff Ruby's restaurants for more years than I care to count. For this reason I think I am uniquely qualified to write this review. In fact I dined at Carlos and Johnny in Montgomery Ohio on 6/15/14and Jeff Ruby's Louisville on 6/11/14 Both as a single as a couple. Since I write a blog abut Living Single I write reviews from both perspectives. What separates a good restaurant from a bad (1 star to 5 star) is and always will be the service. This being consistent service and not just when you inform staff it is celebratory occasion. An exceptional restaurant has great food, outstanding service and a distinctive wine/variety beer selection. Exceptional service should begin from the time your feet hit their property. Beginning with if it present the valet service, to the bar for cocktails and dining room for dinner. This is where the Ruby's chain falls short. Ruby's restaurants will give you good food. For all the years I have dined in his restaurants I have had to return or complain sparingly and as a rule unless it is horrid I rarely send anything back in any restaurant I simply do not eat it. However at Ruby's restaurants I never valet park except at Precinct. Unless weather is severe and I have no choice. I am willing to go through the inconvenience and it is not worth the fee $8 plus tip for little to no service. Can you say complacency. There is more than a modicum of truth to the statement' familiarity breeds contempt,' unless you are CEO or noted Celebrity. As for the Carlos and Johnny's locationI am so glad Charlie is back from Belterra hopefully he will do what he does so well. Our server was nice but not good. I ordered a split of champagne. I mentioned to him that often splits and half-bottles are not properly chilled. Restaurants sometimes do not stock in the same manner as they do full bottles. To my delight this bottle was chilled however before I could do the tasting my server filled my glass nearly to the brim. Bad pour and bad service. Now maybe you are saying oh it is just a split. Well let me say a split is a little more than a glass and a half and at $29 I think I deserve to taste my champagne. Dinner was not an overtly bad experience but what it does is keep me from clicking the fourth star. The food was on par, aged strip, mac and cheese and the famous Freddie salad. I did enjoy my food and yes I will go again but until Charlie returned I had stopped going every 7-10 days to sparingly. In fact on this night I was protesting to my date to go to Capital Grille. In reading other reviews there are those who only go for special occasions. For me dining is not so much a special occasion as an occasion to celebrate another day above ground. I have to add we did not have reservations but the last place I was going to eat was at the bar. Not to confuse bar service with quality of service. The bar is as a rule too busy to give any type of service other than a counter style service found at a diner. There should be a designated bartender for the dining room on Thur-Sat. Quality of Service is tantamount to tradition, reputation and loyal long standing customers. Too me it is as important as knowing my steak temperature and aging will be as stated on the menu. Single dining here is definitely more comfortable for men than women. Although I have dined here a as Single woman there are no overt bad signals it is clearly more suited to business, group or couples dining within dining room. The bar has high tops and tables and if you are dining single you will definitely have a better experience within the front bar. The lighting and atmosphere is less formidable. Allow me to share with you our Valentine dinner experience. But first, let me state that my wife and I have dined at some very fine restaurants from New York to LA. It was a very cold wintery Saturday evening this February 14th. Our dinner reservation time was 8PM, and we arrived at Carlo and Johnny with two minutes to spare. Not realizing when we arrived, the valet service invisibly appeared and assisted my wife from the car up the stairs with an open door awaiting her arrival. Talk about "VIP" Wow. The foyer was crowded with anticipating dinners, and when I told the hostess my name and reservation time we were immediately escorted to our warm and comfortable booth. Jeff, a dinning assistant greeted us warmly and stated a Happy Valentine wish to my wife while providing our water. We were then greeted by Jordan Taylor. His greeting was warm and professional, "Good Evening Ms. G, my name is Jordan Taylor, and I am her to provide you with an enjoyable evening". "Mr. G, again, my name is Jordan Taylor, and I'm here to make you evening most enjoyable too". "Whatever dinning your wish, I'll provide it for you". The personal nuance of his introduction was personal and warm. Jordan Taylor's support was beyond anything my wife and I have ever experienced. His suggestions for beverage, appetizer, entree and dessert was total perfection. If we thought about it, Jordan was there. The dining support staff was continuously there and available. Meanwhile, on multiple occasions, Charlie Bledsoe, Carlo and Johnny General Manager, could not have been more congenial and friendly. His warmth and desire to make sure our evening was total perfection. One of the hostesses came by to offer and then provide a Valentine Photo for my wife's Valentine Evening. And then, Jordan Taylor brought my wife a long stem red rose. Talk about over to top, we've never experienced such outstanding food with this level of service. While enjoying the last of our desert and sips of our coffee, Jordan Taylor queried what kind of vehicle I had and requested our parking ticket. Within minutes he came back to inform my wife and me, that our car was warmed and available when we were ready to leave. He personally requested to escort my wife to a warmed car. With doors opened for us both, and escorted by Jordan, from the restaurant to the foyer to our vehicle, you would think we were royalty. He even placed her remaining half of a very large steak, in a "Jeff Ruby Take Home Bag" in the back seat. With a good evening wishes from Charlie Bledsoe and our "Personal Assistant, Jordan Taylor" we could not have had a more enjoyable evening. My family has eaten at Carlo and Johnny many times in the past few years. Initially, excellent service, food and hospitality. But in the last two years or so, we have noticed a subtle decline in service and quality. We reserved a booth, for Sunday evening. It was a fairly early dinner reservation. But when got there, we were led to a little four top, squished between two other booths. Not a great ambience. I respectfully asked for a booth, which they did provide for us. We were greeted right away, the SA provided us with water. So right away, my husband and daughter noted that the water tasted very chemically, like chlorine. Then my husband noticed a green chive in his water. The SA replaced his water, but the nasty taste was still present. Our server was pleasant. He greeted us, got our drink orders and brought out bread in a timely manner. He asked if we had been there before, which we had, so he skipped telling us about the history of the restaurant. Told us about the new items on the menu. We ordered the truffle fries as an appetizer. They were underwhelming. The fries were just fries, and there was some truffle sprinkled on top, which was very tasty. The garlic aïoli sauce served with it was not so good. Tasted like sour mayonnaise to us. My husband ordered the apple kale salad, and my daughter and I split the Caesar. He enjoyed his salad. The Caesar was just so-so. The dressing did not have very much flavor at all. My husband had the Atlantic Salmon, which he enjoyed, but the lemon ravioli was extremely salty. My daughter's filet was raw, but no big deal, we sent it back, no problem. My crab legs came out. They were perfect. I had to ask our server for clarified butter. He brought the butter out, but it was ice cold. I sent it back. It came back cold. We sent it back again. It was still cold. When it came back the third time, I had given up. Just trying to figure out why they hadn't brought the butter out prior to our dinner being served, to get warm, like it usually is at every other single restaurant I've ever eaten crab at. Because it was our anniversary, we were given a free dessert, which was a very nice gesture. Unfortunately, the free dessert was terrible as well. It was some kind of funfetti cookie with cream cheese frosting, the cookie was very dry and crumbly, and tasteless, as was the cream cheese frosting. I would like to also add, that my husband and I have been in the industry over 40 years, we have owned our own restaurant for 15 years. So we 100% understand that "things happen". But this was kind of a lot of things, and the price I paid for that crab, to not be able to eat it and enjoy it properly, was very upsetting. New Years Dinner turned into overpriced hometown diner! I don't want to start off as an angry customer but there is a good explanation for my rating. The service and waitstaff were excellent. Everyone was very friendly and waitstaff helped each other by ease-dropping on our conversation to ensure we had everything we needed or if there was any issue with our meal. The BIG issue we had is with food prep. Ask any chef and they will tell you that its about the temperature but to most customers we understand it as Rare to Well Done. If you ask for no blood at all and well done for a 14oz New York Strip your plate will be dripping and cooked to medium rare! This happened to my wife's sister and it could not be fixed after two more attempts. This was the case around the table of 6. I asked for it to be cooked to Medium as did my wife, hers came out Medium Rare and mine came out just Rare and sponge-like on the sides but all were blackened and seared on top as it often should be. Being from the military I am NOT a picky eater but at $60 a plate I want it to be close to my order. The peppercorn sauce was advertised as "hot" but was actually sweet and the only thing that made up for the bland, burnt steak flavor was the Bearnaise Sauce or classic A1 as the steaks were charred outside and fleshy throughout. The asparagus was soggy and overcooked like it was steamed. I have watched many shows and cook asparagus correctly in my own home that would pale in their version. I will say for the price comparison any decent steakhouse would have been better for about $150.00 less in cost. I do not want any compensation nor do I hold any grudges. I'm sure their food is well prepared and tastefully so on most occasions, or maybe they have simply lost sight of the real objective. Good service will never replace Great Food no matter how much you up-charge your plates for one night. Normally there are many items to select from not just 6 and they charged an average of $25 more for the same items. I feel that the only reason we all didn't complain and demand a refund is because it would have ruined our whole night and besides we were all fooled by their reputation and high quality of service. I cannot blame the establishment for everyone waking up with an upset stomach the next morning but I feel ill and weak today as does everyone else. I don't believe it was the glass of wine we shared and since 3 of us were driving all night we didn't have another drink. read more

My wife and I dine at Carol & Johnny's approx. once a month to get away from our busy lives. It is a great restaurant with impeccable service and no request is too much. Mr. Ruby has once again done a great job with this fine dinning steakhouse. We have dined at all of the Ruby steakhouses including the Waterfront before its demise. We feel without a doubt that the service and food are across the board the same as it should be. However, the scenery in Carol and Johnny's is perfect. While the Precinct is a close number two, most people that have dined there will comment on the sheer lack of room at that particular restaurant. Unforgettable experience at Carlo & Johnny! From the moment we sat down, everything was perfect - but the real star of the night was our server, Paul. Hands down, he was the best we've ever had. Funny, thoughtful, and genuinely invested in making our evening special - he absolutely made the night for us. We were celebrating a birthday, and it couldn't have been more perfect. Disclaimer - I do not usually write reviews, but my girlfriend insisted on this one. Was in town for the holidays and we decided to try Carlo's again as we had a previous favorite in Cincinnati. Everything was great, no doubt about it one of the best meals I've ever had in Cincinnati. Steaks are great, raw bar is fantastic, and the service top notch. I think I've been to every Jeff Ruby restaurant at least 4 times and have never been disappointed. My last visit to Carlo and Johnny was no exception. From pre-dinner cocktail to dessert, it was (as usual) a gastronomic Oscar award kind of night. A perfect extra dirty vodka Martini, a Peter Frampton salad to die for, a petite filet that must have been sent from heaven above and a chocolate peanut butter torte that made me weep. I love how it's laid out with soft lighting and a warm atmosphere. My date had the scallops, I splurged and ordered the extra aged bone in chop. OH MY. Yes it was $70 dollars for this steak, but it was worth EVERY PENNY. It was seriously the best steak i've ever had. And cooked to perfection. For the appetizer and salad, we split the foccacia bread and butter board with the herbed butter, ruby butter, and cowgirl butter; and each had caeser salads. I can honestly say it was THE best Caesar dressing I have ever had, and I'm a caeser snob. The "half" salad portion was definitely larger than any other side salad I have had recently. For dinner, we split the 24oz T-Bone, Mac and Cheese (the smoked gouda takes it over the top decadent!), and thyme braised onions and mushrooms for our entree and sides. For dessert, we got the Tres Leches cake to go, because neither of us could eat another bite. They were exceptionally busy tonight, but our server Becky was apologetic and kept us laughing. We were willing to wait for a truly farm to plate meal, and the wait was worth it. I am itching to go back and try some of the other options on the menu, it was hard to choose between all of them! Chef Madeline has outdone herself with this menu and revitalized restaurant space!

My friend was not a fan. He asked if maybe in the future, they could put a little cheese on the salad. The mozzarella sticks were absolutely incredible. I'm a big connoisseur of mozzarella sticks and these were really incredible. Dusted with lots of Parmesan. They were awesome. Maybe the best mozzarella sticks I've ever had. Then, it was waiting for the main course. They cook from scratch, so it takes time, but it was well worth it. Both of us got the spaghetti and meatballs, and were pleasantly surprised. Now, if you don't like chunky sauce, this may not be your thing. But, I'm a guy that normally doesn't like chunky sauce, but I just kind of moved that around a little bit and the taste was really great. They had kind of a garlic knot roll as the bread item. I liked it, but I felt like it could've had a little bit more garlic butter on it overall, a very enjoyable time at Tony's. Definitely a casual joint, definitely no huge frills, but if you're just out for a solid Italian dinner in the Cincinnati/Montgomery area, you're in for a treat. I definitely will be back.

Came here during burger week and I'm so glad I did!…read more The burger for the week was so good. One of the best burgers I've had in a long time. The restaurant was busy and on an hour wait but I ended up sitting at the bar and when with them brining busy the food came out quick and made right. I loved the espresso martini and I can't wait to come back and try more of their menu.

We went for brunch with family and it just wasn't great. Upon walking in- you could smell a faint…read morescent of sewage- which we found later that the smell was coming from the women's bathroom. There was no water issue- so maybe sewer gas? Not a great first impression. I would like to say the servers were wonderful. If I could rate them alone it would be 5 stars- they were the majority of the 3 we gave for this visit. The food itself- no one was very impressed with- it was all just ok. The only stand out was the Southern chicken and waffles. Nice heat and both were crispy. Everything else was just bland- (between us we had eggs Benedict, breakfast burger, denver omelettes, French toast, southern chicken and waffles). The Nashville Mary had some appetizers attached- those were good- the drink itself wasn't. For 7 of us, the bill was $200. We have heard good things about the All-Day menu so we may go back to try that- the brunch for us is a no- there are better options in the area like Coopers Hawk, Cheesecake Factory, Toast & Berry, Cozy's etc
