On my annual trek down to Galloway, I discovered that a relatively nearby restaurant had been featured not once but twice on Guy Fieri's "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives", Carluccio's Coal Fired Pizza in Northfield, so I had to check it out. I timed my arrival so that it was right between lunch and dinner, and wouldn't you know it, I was told by friendly regular Reuben, who sat next to me at the counter, that indeed, I'd just missed the rush. Service was prompt and uber-friendly. Clearly many of the patrons were well-known frequent visitors, greeted with warmth and in some cases well-intentioned and well-received ribbing. I'd already checked out the menu before getting there so had decided on the Pappardelle alla Siciliana pasta, but since I was at a place that had a coal fired pizza oven, I bemoaned the fact that I wouldn't be getting one to my counter-mate, Reuben. Not a problem! He had ordered one and offered me a slice once it came...perfect solution and extremely neighborly of him! His white pizza with fresh mozzarella, arugula, prosciutto de Parma, roasted tomatoes and shaved parmesan was delectable. He suggested other menu options that were not to be missed...this is when I wished I'd had my Pubonion friends with me to order and swap out different dishes! My steaming bowl of pappardelle boasted perfectly cooked fresh noodles, chockful of Italian sausage crumbles, fresh mushroom slices, roasted eggplant and just the right amount of melted mozzarella on top. As I left, I passed the case that likened that of a pastry shop, displaying the various inventive pizza options that you could order by the slice if a whole pie is more than your belly can manage. Went for the Margarita pie. Pretty solid. Sauce was absolutely perfect . Sweet flavor and not overly chunky. Crust had some blackening but was still a little too doughy and little crunch. Far too much cheese for a margarita pie imo. Basil was shredded on the pie and cooked which was different but tasted very good. This place never disappoints. We have been grabbing take out from here for years. We lived in New Jersey when this place was still a donut store. Now every time we visit the area we make sure to stop by. Yes, we now live over 800 miles away but always put this on our list of must eats whenever possible. The service is fast and efficient. The menu has many options, each of which is flavourful and delicious. We enjoy just showing up to see what they have ready, as well as ordering ahead. I cannot speak for dining in experience. We have never attempted it as the seating area is rather small and usually crowded. I recommend the chicken wings, bruschetta, garlic knots, and of course the coal fired pizza. Went there for lunch recently. I had two slices of plain pizza. It wasn't really busy. I was very disappointed. First it was like 11 bucks for 2 slices. Much more expensive the most other pizza joints: I even shopped prices with several places to clarify pizza hasn't been hit by inflation. The pizza was good but not amazing. Anyway beyond the price what made it worst is the completely forgot about me after 30 min of them staring at me. I asked and the girl . She said she would look into it . We tried the New York style cheese pizza, the kids have cheese fries, mozzarella triangles and my wife had some different type of sliced pizza. All in all it was decent. The kids loved the mozzarella triangles, they were extremely cheesy. The cheese fries were ok, the cheese had gotten a bit cold so it wasn't cheesy. The pizza my wife had she enjoyed I'm very basic I just like cheese pizza so I didn't care much for it...the cheese pie was ok as well. A bit too soft on the dough for my specific liking, the sauce was ok as well I liked that it wasn't salty but for some reason I like my sauce to have a slight sweet hint to it. This one did not have that but I rather that then a salty sauce. The crust was ok as well...that's my favorite part of the pizza. I liked it but didn't love it. This place is amazing. The food is excellent. You can't go wrong with any item you choose. It's BYOB so bring your fav bottle of wine/beer with you. The Meatballs as an app are a definite and the pizzas are a perfect choice. We have had the lobster raviolis as well which were a special for that everything they were delicious and a large portion size. We also have ordered a half Buffalo chicken half bacon chicken ranch pizza and it was great. The Coal Fire Wings are large in size and a meal within themselves. Great flavor and large size wings. Today I had the broccoli rabe polenta as an appetizer and it was perfect, nice creamy polenta with sausage and broccoli rabe. Just scrumptious. I then had the famous Broccoli Rabe and sausage entree served with cannelloni beans and pasta.
