That 1 Star is only because I can't leave zero. Never had a more disappointing and tasteless enchilada in my life. I think they opened a can of tomato sauce and put it on there, no seasoning at all. The chicken was edible but really blah. Beans were watery and pathetic, the chips were thick and just all wrong. Salsa was below average but helped the chicken I picked out of the flavorless enchilada taste somewhat decent. $12 for that was absolutely wrong. $30 bucks for two of us.. ouch, and we only got water. Maybe alcohol would have been better! Waiter paid little to no attention to us. All in all this was a terrible lunch decision. There is plenty of Mexican food to choose from, so go somewhere else. The Carnitas Street Tacos are amazing. Put some of the homemade hot sauce on it. The carnitas were cooked very well. They were super moist and flavorful. They're pretty fast. I was in and out within 30 min. Definitely would come back again. read more

Amazing! It's a little further out than I normally would go but the reviews were great and I was in the area so I decided to check it out. I came in after the lunch rush around 1:30pm, and there was no wait. Plenty of free parking. Their website menu is different from what they have in store. After a quick perusal, I ordered the pambazo, which is a grilled torta dipped in red salsa and stuffed with chorizo, potatoes, cheese, beans, etc. It was amazing! So flavorful and delicious. Everything was well seasoned and worked together. The side of fried potatoes was also great. The chips and salsa were different but good. The chips are thicker than standard Mexican restaurant chips, but somehow perfectly crispy and flaky and delicious. Paired really well with their fresh tomato salsa. I can't wait to come back and try more from their menu. read more

We went here after a soccer match. We had maybe 15 kids and accompanying parents. It is often chaos when we take that many somewhere. They were very accommodating and pleasant. The staff was very efficient and got everything out quickly. The food was delicious and fresh. Great sized portions as well. In addition, they gave all the boys hats which they LOVED. The hats are for a charity they have to provide scholarships for players and teams. It is great to see a local, family owned organization giving back to the community. Would definitely recommend and will go back when we are in the area. read more

I feel like family whenever I go here. You might have high school kids serving you, but they are just as good and as nice as anyone else there. This place has the best Mexican food in mount pleasant tho, and best I have ever eaten. The chips and salsa are crave worthy. And I usually get Alex's nachos and chimichangas. They chimichangas are different than other restaurants and oh so good. I have also tried other things on the menu and I have never gotten something I don't like. I was invited to this restaurant by Carmen after meeting her on an airplane. I was in Charleston for two weeks and decided she was such an amazing lady I had to try it out! I took some colleagues here and everyone loved the food. Being from San Diego and growing up in Los Angeles it is hard to impress me with Mexican food. By far this is the best Mexican restaurant I have ate at. The service was amazing. Carmen and Juan were very welcoming. I will be back next time I am in South Carolina! Second time at Carmen y Juan's. Great service and the food comes pretty fast. They have great chips and salsa. The guacamole was ok- just avocado and tomatoes. My husband got the ceviche tostada for the second time and loved it. Lots of fish/shrimp and the tostada was nice and crisp. I got the carnitas street tacos again which are the closest thing I've tried to real Mexican tacos in mt pleasant. Corn tortillas, onions/cilantro, and radishes. Their horchata is homemade (you can definitely tell when it is from a mix) and so tasty. We'd recommend this place for sure read more

To be fair, we may have ordered the wrong items. The service is very friendly and very good, but I'm not sure how this place gets so many high ratings. The chimichangas are awful! They are small, and very dry and bland. The beans and rice are also very bland. I did have the bacon wrapped burrito, which was OK. It sounded much better than it actually tasted. The chips were really weird as well. They were thick and also bland. Oddly enough, the people who own this place are Hispanic, but I am not sure they've ever actually had real Mexican food. It is very frustrating living in South Carolina if you enjoy Mexican food. I've yet to try any place in any region of the state with passable Mexican food. I probably would've been happier at Taco Bell that I was at this place. Perhaps I was spoiled growing up out West. I doubt I would ever eat at this place again, nor would I recommend it to anyone else. read more

The food, however, was unbelievably bad. We had tortas with fillings that were dipped in salsa and grilled until crispy. I was so excited to try it, but appalled after trying it. Nothing about it was good-- the quality, the flavor balance, portion balance, presentation, it was all along the lowest quality I've ever had. It was also overpriced @ $12 per plate when most of it was lettuce and oily fries. The interior is degraded and display cases covered in dirty plastic. My seat cushion had multiple holes in it and the menus were dirty as well. It's not often that I choose to leave a bad review, but this is among the most avoidable restaurants that I've ever encountered. read more

I just love Carmen y Juan's because it is the best Mexican food in Mount Pleasant. Lots of fresh herbs and vegetables (what other Mexican place serves radishes with their tacos?). The tea is good, the atmosphere is fine (seems like the owners and servers know many of their customers) and the salsa is good. My only complaint is that the homemade chips are too thick.
