Chicken salad sandwich on sweet French and tomato basil soup
    Lily B.

Cute little cafe lunch style places that serves soup, sandwich and salads. I got the chicken salad on sweet French with tomato soup. Sandwich was good. Soup was only warm and not my favorite but to each their own. Service was nice and fast. Also there is outdoor seating. Coffee and pastries.

I've been a fan of Carnegie's for years. Loved their salads, soup and bread. Recently, the quality of the food has been on the decline and the cost has been on the rise; a simple lunch for myself and my sons will quickly rise to $40 for some not-so-fancy fare. Today my son and I decided to drop by on one of Redding's all-too-frequent 100 degree days. The interior temps are near 85. When I asked the waiter if he could "cool the restaurant a bit?" he said he "couldn't." Couldn't or wouldn't ? To appease us, he reseated us at table 4--next to 1/2 grimy ac ducts in the building. I ordered a cashew chicken salad on wheat. I received a cashew chicken salad on white. Couldn't the lunch I ordered, either. Priceless? Nah. 1/2 sandwiches for two: $25.76

I have gone to Carnegie's since I have moved here--they are my goto place for soups and salads. Oh, yeah they also have good beer on tap plus kombucha! The addition of the Parklet add a lot of outdoor seating, which is key during these crazy COVID times.

Half turkey sandwich and potato salad.

This is my favorite spot to get lunch in Redding. I usually get a half-sandwich, potato salad, and a beer. I think their sandwiches are damn near perfect. Piled with tasty fresh ingredients, bread grilled just right, yum! I even like the vegetarian! The atmosphere and service are also wonderful.

Their Reuben sandwich and tomato basil soup was delicious! The service was prompt and the restaurant looked clean.

Their coffee also is good: i ordered my favorite mocha. The only thing we didn't like about is the matcha. Not even good but most of the food and their coffee are good, will try again here next time.

When asking if they use tamari or gluten free soy sauce, she said she wasn't sure and pointed to a list of salad dressing options that were marked. Not their rice bowls toppings - heads up- it's regular soy sauce. Also since I was asking all the gluten free questions, it would have been nice to be informed that the tacos were also served on flour tortillas. Not the cashier or the menu indicated this. Luckily I do not have a severe allergy, or I'd be furious. Obviously this place is a bakery, so there's gluten everywhere. I'm not mad, honestly. Just a little disappointed. Any information is best. I got the chimichurri steak tacos, which are covered in chipotle aioli - I'd honestly rename them to be chipotle steak tacos. Get zero chimichurri, the aioli completely takes over. I do like the steak isn't tough though, so still get some points for the attempt. For me, and my gluten sensitivity, probably won't be back since there aren't many options that are actually gluten free.

I've sat on giving this review for some time now. I don't like giving negative reviews and want to…read moremake sure I give accurate feedback. Let's start with In store ordering is the only way to order from them. The food is really really good, fresh, fairly quick and moderately priced. It's worth the cost for what you get. Ordering Togo can have mistakes and ordering for delivery, well continue reading. Now.... I Would not recommend ordering from their 'From the Hearth' app. When you download it and order from it it seems as though it's an app they monitor and delivery would be private. It's DoorDash that the 'ordering/payment/delivery it actually goes through. Here's where it gets frustrating. On DoorDash app when an order is incorrect you can file a claim and get a refund. You cannot do that with this app, nor is there anyone to help you through From the Hearth side and it's missing the DoorDash side. I've done several home deliveries through the app and mostly items were correct, a few times fries or sauces, added ingredient's to a dish we're missing and we'd than have to go to the store to get them, which is manageable but the experience I'd like to really share is: I made a $175 order to feed my family and friends that were in town. It took over 2.5hrs to finally get delivered to us, it even got delivered to the wrong house and when trying to get it figured out through From the Hearth staff they treated me as if I was lying and would not remake the food nor refund me. The food was literally "missing" and I was told I had to go through the subsidiary (DoorDash) that's when I learned it was not their app and they had no responsibility once it left their store. But really for me, It was the way the From the Hearth staff responded to the incident that truly baffles me and makes me not eat there anymore. I use to frequent the business several times a month, this was extremely rude and made me very disappointed. I would NOT recommend them based on their customer service by this experience.

I was hangry for a salad for dinner and needed a sandwich for the next days hiking…read more The salad was massive! Fresh Romaine leaves and croutons and the grilled chicken was moist with a nice, tasty grill on the outside while easy to bite through. I couldn't stop eating it. You have about 7 choices of dressing which the put on the side so you can choose how much. $14.50 but it could easily feed 2 people. The sandwich was so big I had it for 2 meals. The turkey was juicy with sourdough bread, good cheddar cheese, not overly mayonnaised, and a few large leaves of lettuce. I had the best hike after this delicious 1/2 of the sandwich. Ate the other the day prior and it was so delicious I scarfed it down forgetting to take a picture. $14.49 and again can feed 2 people. This place stays really busy for a reason - exceptional food and great service. If I lived in Redding, this would be a dangerous place for me.

My husband is what you would consider a professional sandwich eater. He can make a stack at home…read morethat you could really pay top dollar for, and he is incredibly choosy and picky about where he will eat a sandwich outside of the house. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of places that he likes to get a sandwich... I just need you to understand how incredibly picky he is. Enter Dills deli m. Not only was he completely blown away by their delicious sandwiches, but my daughter stands by the fact that this was the best pastrami she's ever had. Now, as any good parent would, I have educated this kid on the ins and outs of pastrami, and for her to deem this one the best is a major accomplishment. The spot is super clean, the servers are incredibly friendly, and the food is spot on. Absolutely worth your time.
