Had the Carney dog with cheese. It was ok, but a bit salty and dry. I've had better chili cheese dogs that were not this expensive.

Always great service and fresh food. The kids love this place, we come once a month and really enjoy it.

On a beautiful Wednesday afternoon, with my wife and children out of town, I had the day to myself. As I traveled around Studio City, my hunger grew. Unfortunately, my favorite sushi spot was closed, and yes, I intended to dine on sushi alone--so what? Recalling Carney's, I quickly parked and entered. The establishment is remarkable; it is, after all, a train car. There was a palpable sense of community as I overheard locals engaging in lively conversations with the employees. Although I felt somewhat excluded, it was heartening to observe. The locals were reminiscing about how long the place had been there and how they had been frequenting it for years, which certainly speaks to its quality. The employees were exceptionally friendly, and the gentleman who took my order was particularly commendable--I hope he is doing well. I opted for the double cheeseburger with thousand island sauce and grilled onions, following a recommendation from a literal dog (if you know, you know). The burger was quite possibly one of the finest, if not the finest, I have ever had. It was rather messy, but that only added to the experience. I highly recommend giving this place a try, and if a charming little white dog suggests you try the burger Nelson style, heed his advice. read more

I have only been to this location twice. I prefer going to their Sunset Boulevard location. It's a good place to people watch. I went to this location in the evening. I brought our service dog with us, and happily sat outside. There was another dog enjoying the cool breeze as the cars sped through Ventura Boulevard. I ordered a split and grilled hot dog with cheese. My husband had 2 hot dogs with hot sauerkraut. He enjoys going to Carney's because he likes their hot dogs. They are not soggy. He likes how the hot dog snaps as he bites into it. My friend also ordered a hot dog with hot sauerkraut, and she enjoyed it. Her husband ordered a Garden Burger, and he stated that it tasted like a cheeseburger. He was a happy camper. Of course I ordered a chocolate dipped frozen banana for my dessert, and it was a great way to end my meal. When we order the chocolate dipped frozen bananas on Sunset Boulevard, we always seem to make people laugh. read more

Lack of common courtesy, which is individual responsibility but also comes from the lack of proper training/management. The customer stands in front of the register for a couple minutes, and the employee is making food right in front of them without a speckle of acknowledgment. I've been coming here since I was small and it will always have a special place in my heart. How awesome is it to be eating in a train! It's still exciting to this day. My go to order is a chili cheeseburger, large fries, Pepsi, and a cookie! The cookies are so underrated here, they are amazing! I also love that they support a small business owner who sells their cookies to them everyday. My boyfriend has been ordering the New Yorker dog lately and loves it! I had found this place when visiting the Staples next door and saw it had glowing reviews on Yelp. Oh boy were they right! This type of food is my jam and was so excited to try it out. My boyfriend and I placed our order online and then went to pick it up. I ordered the chili cheese fries and the Chicago hot dog which comes with relish, onion and mustard. My boyfriend got their sweet potato fries and the double chili cheeseburger. Everything was SO GOOD! The chili was so flavorful I could eat it with a spoon lol I liked that they packaged the chili and cheese separately so the fries don't get soggy when transporting them home. There's no better place than Carney's to go to for a chili cheese burger, fries, or dog. Today I couldn't choose between a burger or a dog so I ordered a chili cheese burger with a hot dog on it. They serve the dogs steamed or upon request split top and grilled. I've been eating here since the 90's after drinks in Hollywood and it's never disappointed. My recent visit uncovered a whole slew of new additions to their menu. I recommend their Hawaiian Mango Salsa Dog and their Chicago Dog. And that's exactly how I'd describe Carney's. The iconic railcar that houses the restaurant on Ventura is no different than the one on Sunset, albeit slightly bigger. Inside you're met by a long, narrow white-walled room with simple sets of varnished tabletops and red leather chairs that feels like they haven't changed anything since first opening their doors back in the 70s. The menu is no different, and their commitment to serving classic comfort food reminds me of the fist name in Los Angeles comfort food: Pink's. No frills. No fancy. Just basic goodness. Burgers. Chili. Hot dogs. Fries. Shakes. Okay, like Pink's they've added a few items to their menu to address modern demands, like veggie burgers, but present them with the same simplicity as the rest of their food. The burgers are delicious. Perfectly cooked. Not too greasy. Prepared with everything or nothing. There's a reason they're renowned for their chili, which is an ideal topping for those burgers, hot dogs or fries. And being a bit of a French fry snob, the ones here do not disappoint. Crispy. Salty. Hot and fresh. Each serving is cooked to order and it shows. Plus, their milkshakes are fantastic. Creamy and thick, I believe the key is to employ a system while eating it all. For me it was bite of burger, fry, sip of shake, swallow, repeat. But far be it for me to tell anyone how to indulge in their indulgences. More than anything, Carney's is fun. Like you're dining on a piece of history. It's as casual as casual gets with incredibly reasonable prices too match, and the service is as satisfying as the food. Carney's Express Limited first caught my eye as I was driving and noticed a nice restaurant that was in the shape of a train. I thought that was unique and made sure to make a visit, and it didn't disappoint. I went there for dinner and as I drove in their parking lot there was a lot spaces to park. I walked in and ordered a chili cheeseburger with a large sweet potato fries. I'm not a huge fan of chili cheese anything but I read that they are known for their chili cheese so I gave it a try, and it was really good! It had great taste with every bite! I'm a huge fan of sweet potato fries and they were great as well! The size of the chili cheese burger and amount of fries was perfect. That meal left me satisfied and craving more. Solid spot for a chili dog in LA. You can find two of their iconic train cars at either end of the metropolis. This is classic hot dog culture such as it is in SoCal. The chili is spiced perfectly with a not too thick/not too think consistency. Tomatoes are a unique touch to add a little nutrition to the large sandwich(?). I don't know if hot dogs count as a sandwich. The dog itself has a nice snap and smoky taste. The strip of mustard reminds me of coney dogs in the Midwest. A classic that is just as good as it was 40 years ago. They've modernized the menu by adding gluten free buns and a vegan patty - both were huge hits with my dietary challenged group. Fries are cooked in oil with nothing else, so they are GF as well! I have fond memories of eating here as a kid with my Dad (the veNow that they have GF buns for my daughter (Celiac disease), I am thrilled to continue the family tradition! Hot dogs have a good "snap", I'd recommend the Carney dog with chili, onion, mustard, tomato. I would NOT recommend their really weak attempt at a "Chicago" dog as normally made. Regular (not bright green)relish, onion, mustard: missing pickle spear, tomato, sport peppers, celery salt. Owner let me know, as a result of my review, that you can request the tomato, peppers, and celery salt be added, so you should definitely do that... no pickle spears but they do have cucumbers you can request. 2.5 stars rounded up because it seems to be a family business. The decor is worth a detour but don't expect a fun crowd or anything beyond the architectural novelty. A white couple with matching resting-b*tch faces were sitting outside and very obviously and rudely gawking at me as I made my way in and came back out - maybe they have never seen a non-white person here before? The pigeons nearby were friendlier, meanwhile the normal folks inside (while also noticeably all white and not being stared at by the outside couple) just kept to themselves as one would more so expect. Clientele aside, the staff were ok but not particularly engaging, enthusiastic or knowledgeable about the history surrounding them. At best I would guess the place is no longer what it once was or at one point hoped to be. A good menu with ample offerings though the taste was nothing beyond ordinary.
