I went for brunch today at Carnivore. I had had their pulled pork sandwich at an event a few weeks ago (it was excellent) and was expecting to be able to get that when I went today, but it was not on the brunch menu. That turned out fine, because what I had was really fantastic. I am not a big meat eater, I do not cook red meat at home, so if I go out to eat a lot of times that's what I will get. I had the Steak and Eggs and I was very happy with it. It came with cheesy grits, which were creamy and very cheesy (although on the website, it shows them with grated cheese on top and mine did not come like that. There was more than enough cheese within to make up for it, though) and I ordered my eggs over-easy (they were perfect). The biscuit was really good, flaky and soft on the inside with crispy edges on the outside. But the steak! OMG, it was probably the best sirloin I've ever had. They cooked absolutely right! My friend had The Grilled hot ham and cheese, and it must've been pretty good because there was nothing left on my his plate. The main entrance to the restaurant is through the lobby of the Fair Mercantile Building. You can go into Carnivore through the corner entrance, which leads to the bar, but don't miss out on the lobby! Everyone raves about the Carnivore brunch and I would say its pretty good. Started with a very good Bloody Mary topped with plenty of snacks. I ordered the biscuits and gravy (half) and the breakfast burrito accompanied with potatoes. Everything was very good! It was very busy but the space made it seen like it was not to crowded. The food did take a bit if time to come out but understandable with the Sunday morning crowd! Will be back to This place to try more. read more

Had a friend visit for the weekend and was just showing him around STL. Another friend of mine suggested we try Carnivore for the brunch. Disclaimer: I've not converted to being a brunch guy. I still need some experiences to convince me. However, coming in with an open mind and empty stomach helps me try any food place at any time haha. So we traveled to the Hill and upon entry, it gave the impression of a small bar, but we were escorted through the dining area and up an elevator to expose even more area! Pretty cool to me. The environment was pretty chill than expected. Our waitress was a blast to be served by. Very helpful. It's a limited brunch menu, and I didn't drink (I know I know...brunch no-no haha) but I was surprised by the menu items. Steaks and Italian dishes mixed in with breakfast was an interesting idea. I had to get an Italian Slinger, which is sausage and peppers, along with eggs and potatoes. Also got pancakes with Cinnamon Brown Sugar butter on it. I was pleased with the meal. I had their salmon which was drizzled with a white wine & caper sauce. That sauce... couldn't get enough of it. So good! For my side, I went with their vegetable medley... do not underestimate the vegetable medley. On the veggies is this garlic butter sauce...superb. My boyfriend had their special which was I believe a 6 oz filet, scallops, and a side salad. Their house salad...phenomenal. We had a few different cocktails throughout the evening which were all equally fantastic. They do have happy hour from 5-6 and their happy hour deals are pretty great so I would definitely take advantage of that if you can. We arrived at Carnivore around 5:30 for a 5:45 dinner reservation. Sat outside on the patio and had a few cocktails prior to ordering dinner. By 7 o'clock the place was hoppin' and I would imagine the indoor dining area was completely full and I completely understand why. This place does not disappoint. Our last experience was great, this one was even better. Our waitress/bartender Annalise was absolutely wonderful. First, I have to say thank you as they accomodated my large group for my Birthday! Upon entry the dining room is bright and a bit more casual than expected, but well appointed. We were seated at two tables andour server was attentive to our large group. We all ordered and received appetizers and salads. The fried artichokes were very good. The salad was a surprizimg standout. It was a simple house salad but the crisp lettuce and housemade dressing with housemade croutons was delicious. For my entrey I had the Filet Madeira. It was good, but I realize I am morevof a steak purest and should have ordered the plain filet. They have desserts, and the coconut cake was very good. The slice was large, multi-layered and dense(think pound cake). Oh I almost forgot my drink, it was very strong. I cannot complete, but since I am not much of a drinker small sipps were required. I can not say enough good things about Carnivore. First of all, the service is ALWAYS fantastic. Always. Its a fun time, even if the food wasn't amazing. I have been here about 5 times in 2020, I'm so glad they were able to stay open. I've done brunch once and dinner on the other visits, we hit happy hour once, they had great apps and great drink specials for happy hour. This might seem a little silly, but my favorite thing to order is Herbivore Salad and add all the meat, so steak, chicken and shrimp completely covering the top. Its almost not even a salad. I also really enjoyed the steak medallions appetizer. We ordered 2 plates for 3 of us, but one would have been fine. I also usually have food envy of my friends, because everything at Carnivore is beautiful. My friends got a chicken breast in a lemon sauce I think that looked amazing. We finally made it to Carnivore and I have to admit, I was a little disappointed in some of the reviews that called Carnivore a steakhouse. Yes, they do have steaks, six of them to be exact, but it's not the main feature. It is also a very casual place to dine. They have a good bar area which is separate from the dining area. We actually came on what was called "Taco Tuesday" but I wasn't interested in tacos. After getting our cocktails, we looked over the menu. We decided to share the toasted ravioli for an appetizer. If was good but I will tell you the sauce was outstanding. He decided to go with a ribeye steak with onions and a side of pasta. I went with the hamburger. I also got a plain baked potato. My burger and potato were very good. He raved about his steak and pasta. We also decided to get dessert. I believe it was some type of red velvet cake. It was delicious also. Would I come back here? The atmosphere is not at all cozy or romantic. The name says steak house but it is more like a diner feel. The arancini was very good. The home made meat sauce was thick and meaty with lots of salt and seasonings. Comes with 3 giant risotto balls at a reasonable price. The dinner rolls were sub par. No flavor but they were warm. The meat ravioli was excellent. A lot of filling and ample sauce and cheese on top. Portion was generous. The meat had a lot of spice and salt so be warned. No bland meat here. The chicken parmigiana was also excellent. Very moist and infused with flavor from the marinade. Plenty of home made meat sauce on the side. The side pasta with meat sauce was also good. So many ridges on the noodles for more surface area of flavor. Great choice. Like many of the other reviews, couldn't find a fault with the food. Prices are low and flavor and quality is high. Sometimes you just don't get what others may see or in this case be tasting. My food was good, but certainly not memorable, my friend felt the same about hers, however she can write her own review. I did just have a burger, sure you may say it's just a burger, however I've had memorable ones that come to mind and I think to myself, I must go back there for that burger, this wasn't it. The place is loud, almost to the point of not being able to hear the person you're with speak. Some sound deadening materials would help. Nothing against the place for this, it's not a bring a date to propose place, it's a meet your mates for after work and grab a bite place. We ate brunch here on a Saturday morning. It was amazing! I had the breakfast pizza. It was scrambled eggs, bacon, sautéed bell peppers and gravy on flatbread. And, it was excellent! The fam had pancakes, eggs, bacon and their breakfast risotto (with Italian sausage). Everything was phenomenal. Their biscuits are truly homemade and taste like my grandma used to make. Carnivore is an excellent choice to go to in the city. Tons of choices around there but I really enjoyed dinner here. Excellent menu and staff who direct you to the specials and wines. Great beverage menu, and great wine choices that I thought were reasonable. The steaks were awesome. The ribeye was my choice with cowboy butter and it was prepared perfectly. The Modiga steak was also very good and paired with the carnivore potatoes, also excellent. The filet with Parmesan butter was also excellent as was the filet with white cream pasta. Did St. Louis need another steakhouse? Yes. I'm a meat lover, so there can never be too many steakhouses to satisfy my red meat cravings. Carnivore is a nice addition to the Italian dominated "Hill". When dining at a steakhouse, in my opinion there are only three drinks you should be drinking. Two are classic cocktails and the other is a traditional red wine. So today, I started my visit with a, Manhattan. I had to smile when the bartender replied, "I can't believe how many orders I am getting for Manhattans, since we opened." Right there is proof that I know my booze. Being a fan of Jalapeños', I could not resist one of their appetizers. They offer, Smokey Stuffed Jalapeños. Beware, these are not little peppers, they are HUGE. They're stuffed with Italian Sausage, Cream Cheese and Cheddar and lightly breaded. They were not overly spicy, but my body may be immune, since I eat them all the time. I then had a Herbivore salad, before my entree. It was a true, Italian salad. Hey, they're located on, The Hill, so a little Italian has to show up on the menu. It was a good mix of romaine and baby spinach. Tossed with cucumber, pimentos, green onions, provel and feta cheese. Then it was all mixed with their house made Italian dressing and garnished with peperoncino. Actually it was one of the better salads I've had on The Hill. My entree was a 10 oz Sirloin with a side of asparagus. I requested it to be prepared, medium rare and it was done to perfection. It was seasoned perfectly as well. I had no desire for and sauce or flavored butter on top - it was perfect. When my entree arrived, I was ready for a second cocktail. Others at the bar were enjoying, Dirty Martinis so I joined the crowd. My earlier Manhattan was made well, but the bartender really shined with a Dirty Martini. With them still being fairly new when I visited, the service was friendly and attentive. I was seated at the bar and felt I got the same amount of attention as those who were seated at the tables.
