Stopped here with a friend for a quick lunch the other day. We were seated pretty quickly, they were just freshly cleaning the table we ended up with. The service was welcoming and friendly, food was served quickly and in decent portions at decent prices. It didn't really blow me away, but it wasn't a bad experience either. It fit the need of the moment. I try to be very honest in my reviews because, I mean, that's the point, to give people a clear idea. It was not my impression that this is a spot to get excited about going to or go out of your way to try. Carver's, food-wise, is the best alternative to the diner experience in Morris County. Their sandwiches and omelets are really great, and they have specials each day which usually reflect seasonal specialties (i.e. a gobbler sandwich post-Thanksgiving). I had a warm roast beef sandwich w/ horseradish a few months ago that I still think about. They're only open for breakfast and lunch, which seems appropriate. Don't have any negatives to contribute. This is one of my favorite brunch places (FYI, this used to be Doc's Kitchen but everything else is still the same). The prices are very reasonable and the portions are very generous. I usually order their omelettes and I'm always stuffed afterwards. I've tried other entrees as well and they were all excellent. I really like the Meat Lover omelette and the Chili Rancheros omelette (I think that is what it's called, its not on the menu.. they had it on their daily special once). Oh, and you can't go wrong with the corned beef hash either! If you are coming on the weekend, come here early because the wait can take a while since it is a small restaurant. There's almost always a wait (it gets worse later on during the day). However, service has always been good and quick for me. Parking shouldn't be an issue. If you can't find street parking, there is a 3 hour parking lot across the street. read more

THIS PLACE USED TO BE KNOWN AS DOCS KITCHEN!! The owner and staff are the same. Doc's Kitchen used to be owned by two people. One of the owners didn't live in NJ and his share was bought out and the name of the restaurant was changed. Nothing other than the name has changed. The Menu isn't that large but it doesn't matter because everything that is on this menu for Breakfast, Brunch, and Lunch are great! Omelets, pancakes, waffles, and sandwiches. You can't go wrong with any of it. They'll even make special request meals if they can. They always have fresh baked loaves of bread, pies, and other baked goodies too! Everything they make is made from scratch and made in their own kitchen. This place only has one problem. ITS TOO SMALL AND ALWAYS CROWDED. Good luck coming here for a weekend breakfast with family and friends or after Church. This place is very tiny and there is always a wait. After reading the reviews and I was traveling from Ohio to hawthorn NJ I thought I would try it out. I arrived about noon and had a 20 minute wait but was crammed in a corner waiting. I was seated as my turn and waited on immediately. I ordered a omelette and piece of French toast. French toast was good, omelette had no taste to it unfortunately. I finished my meal, paid my bill and headed out to the parking lot to find a parking ticket on my car because I apparently parked on the wrong side of the 3 hour parking area. One of my favorite breakfast places! We often have to wait as it is a popular location. Very tasty food with good proportions. It's always nice to see what specials they have for the day. The location is a little small (once we had a party of nine that we had to split up) but definitely worth visiting. We are always looking for good breakfast places in the area, so recently friends told us about Carver's. It's a quaint hometown place tucked in a side street in the middle of Denville. It's only about 15 tables so get there early or you'll wait. Yesterday was our 4th time in and the food has been very consistent. I had a simple sausage, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich, while the rest of the party had corned beef hash with eggs and pancakes. Everyone said this was the best corned beef hash they have had anywhere, but everything was very good. If you're in the area it's definitely a place to try. read more

Came here twice, once for my girlfriends birthday a few weeks ago and today, both for breakfast. I can confidently say we will be repeat customers. The service and food are perhaps one of the best my girlfriend and I have encountered so far. The pricing and portions are very reasonable. The waitress we had each time was very attentive, friendly and extreme polite (even went out of her way to offer us some extra add ons like flavored syrup / flavored butter for my girlfriend's pancake leftovers to take home). It is a small and cozy place and at the time of this review, COVID guidelines are followed with diners spaced apart reasonably from each other. One thing to note is this place is definitely popular and does get "packed" as we both came here before 8AM each time. Went here for the first time and wouldn't recommend it, especially compared to other amazing options in the area. We went for lunch and got two sandwiches. The sauce was soaking through the bread I couldn't even eat mine. The location looked pretty dirty and when I went to the bathroom it confirmed it. It seems the bathroom is also used as a storage area with a lot of stuff and dust everywhere. Also, staff was not friendly. Our server came to the table two seconds after we sat down to ask for our order ("do you know what you want") with no smile, introduction, or anything. We said we need a few minutes and she simply walked away with zero expression or words. At no point was she friendly or nice. However, the owner (?) is inattentive and could be moving more diners through the place and assisting staff. Took more than 5 minutes to have our name taken for the wait list. Busy restaurants typically don't allow a single patron to take a 4 person table or booth when they have a counter with seats and 2 person tables available. Staff was busy, but we we're never asked for refills. Took 10 minutes to get the check and pay, despite there being a bunch of people waiting for tables. Any attentive owner would be trying to help their staff and move people in and out as fast as possible. read more
