Our waitress never offered refills, we literally had to flag her down and it took a while for her to come back with the refills. FOOD: chips and salsa were good. I've been going to Casa Moreno regularly since the mid 90's when it was actually located across the street. It's close to home and Myself and friends are trying to support our local business. This situation that occurred tonight is not the first time. Tonight I'm just over it. I substitute the rice for a salad. And when I made that request, those were my words, substitute. When the bill came it was "add salad." I was charged $3.00 more. So I asked the asst manager about it. I told her, the additional charge was not mentioned. She went to ask the server IF she informed me. The server lied and said, she did tell me. Lied. I guess I'm just tired of living in the world of deceit. It's not ok. Not a nice restaurant considering they charge extra for onions. Our waitress was kind of snappy. But when I asked for onions and why they charge extra she was adamant about keeping charge on the onion. And the supervisor or manager or whatever she was...said that they charge extra for that and everything else. That they don't make the rules. So I will never come back here again. The food is good.. Never a disappointing experience! I love Casa Moreno and I've been coming here for years. Through the pandemic, I was terrified that it would suffer the fate of so many businesses but thank God, it persevered and it survives to serve its hungry and grateful community! Today I treated myself as I always do to my favorite dish and for the first time ever, I sensed something was off. Monica the manager came out herself to hear what I wanted to share. I detest the idea of outing staff or putting anyone on blast for mistakes and the fact that I could remain lo-key with her while perhaps suggesting something that might improve the experience of those who would follow me was en pointe. I like keeping stuff in house unless it's praise, then I'm about the audience. She came back to tell me that she heard me, confirmed my concerns, shared the constructive criticism, and that she appreciated my genuine feedback. Of course I'm gonna be back. THAT'S why I continue to support and enjoy this business and that's why I will always recommend it and that's why I'm here to give them a big shout out. Casa Moreno is decidedly better than its three and one-half stars rating. It's a modest place, but its food is terrific. Casa Moreno has a long and tempting menu with many dishes not commonly found elsewhere. If you are like me, you will be challenged to select only one entree. I ordered Susan's Favorite Chicken which is a chicken breast in a wonderful chile verde sauce, and it is now one of my favorite Mexican dishes. Celebrated my dads birthday here a few Sunday's ago. I had been here a few years ago and it is not at all what I remember it to be. First, it took a while for someone to get our drink order. I asked for suggestions and the waitress seemed bothered by my questions. The tamarindo margarita was actually really good but very small glass. Not your typical margarita glass. Food, I ordered the shrimp enchiladas and was sadly very disappointed. They were so salty that I couldn't even eat them. And the shrimp I can't even find the right words to describe it. One, it didn't taste one bit like shrimp and it didn't look like it at all! Scary!!! I have no idea what it was. But it was not good that's for sure. I went there last Saturday. The Margaritas, Salsa, and Service was Fantastic!! I told my husband all about this place and he wanted to go also. As Fate would have it my stove broke today. Hey let's go to Casa Moreno for Dinner. My husband calls to see if we need reservations. So I traveled way over to this side of town to join on our company's holiday party. Was rather bummed out that i had to travel so far (40 miles) in traffic after working all day. The last time I was at this place was a few years ago and the food was great. However, today was the worst service... took my mom out for dinner and we chose to sit in the patio area as others were also outside. We sat there waiting for about half an hour to even order water and chips. I did mention to the kind young gentleman that's it's been taking a while and he politely apologized and said a young lady would be with us shortly; 10 minutes later, still no waitress so we left. I can't imagine how long it would've taken for our food. I also over heard the lady next to us say, "I'm still waiting for my drink..."... which is when we left. Covina is one of those old-timey towns in the So Cal area. It's got a main street with old two-story buildings dating back to the beginning of the last century. Casa Moreno rests in the middle of this area. It's full of nightlife with clubs and bars doting the calle. Casa Moreno greets you with a small, mostly shaded outdoor patio area and a much larger main dining area inside the well air-conditioned building. At first, you might think it's an old restaurant, but a closer look will tell you it's all artifice for the sake of decor. Well done artifice, but not the real thing. Still, it's a nice space, with all the standard Mexican fare, all done well, but nothing special stood out. Their full bar pours a decent Cadillac Margarita and the daytime crowd is mostly locals leaving the night time to the younger barhopping crowd. The staff here was great every time I was in, efficient and helpful and always there when you need them. As Mexican food goes, it's a safe bet for your visiting grandparents or maybe those friends from LA that want to see some of old Covina. No surprises in here. read more

Inside doesn't resemble a Mexican restaurant but still nice and clean.Their menu has good options and kid friendly.Ordered the chicken soup for our daughter. She enjoyed it. I ordered the chile verde which the menu indicated as spicy and I love spicy but it lacked the spice it was also a bit too salty for my taste. The beans and rice saved my plate.I give them 5 stars on their drinks though.The service wasnt the greatest. We got attended by 5 different waitresses and had to flag them down every time we needed something.Might stop by again if in the area. read more

We're always looking for decent Mexican food and decided to try Casa Moreno. Upon entering we found the place to be nice inside and the hostess pleasant. We were seated right away and then brought chips which were good and salsa that was better, it was tasty, not at all spicy with a kick at the end but good. I don't recommend the chile verde, you get more sauce than pork and it is spicy but not tasty the rice has a good flavor and the beans aren't too bad either. The calabasita is really good, great flavor just not enough, you'd think for zucchini you get more of it, just never enough of a good veggie. The dish does come with rice & beans. Oh yes, had a margarita and am still wondering where the tequila was, not even a tingle from the alcohol, maybe she thought I said virgin margarita The server could've been more attentive, like bring more chips when she could see we were out, perhaps bring more water and oh, maybe napkins when asked, you know, the little things that count and maybe even ask if I wanted another Margarita or a drink with some alcohol.... Overall, good experience, just need better service, alcohol in the drinks and maybe more meat & veggies.... We tipped to well so she'll never get she needs to improve, oh well, hopefully we'll do better next time oh yes, we plan to come and try other menu items. read more

With tent dining as an option (because indoor was full), was told our party of two would quickly get seated. A larger party with kids next to us was told 20 min wait. Again, full tent dining with plenty of seating was empty. After a while we get escorted to side patio dining, that's fine. Waiting......waiting....and waiting. No chips, no drink order, not even eye contact. 15 min wait and another couple next to us gets seated and immediately tended to. That's when we got up to leave. I mentioned it to hosted who offered to take care of us herself, but by that time it was too late. Was really looking forward to listening to music but did not get off on the right foot. I requested to be served some adult beverages and was first told by Monica that she was not the bartender. When I asked one of the other servers Monica intervened and basically to us to leave and perhaps this restaurant was not for us. Have been to the Casa Moreno in Claremont, so this place seemed like a no-brainer since I love that restaurant. First off, completely different food and vibe. I am not certain if it the same owners as the other. This was more homestyle, and Claremont is more modern Mexican. Needless to say. It was delicious. Had the Chile relleno and crunchy beef taco. Right on. Spot on...very satisfying. The lunch specials are great too. Some at $8.95 and a large selection. Mine was $13.95 for which was fair and delightful. The classic margarita is made with triple Sec, orange liquer, sweet/sour and tequila. 8.95 and packs a punch. The total meal with two margs, Corona light, and two entries was $54. I've been coming to this restaurant for years and have always loved the service and the manager was the friendliest. However today the experience was unbelievable by the young hostesses greeting customers. We walked up for an early dinner at 5 pm and were told the wait was 5-10 minutes and we were okay with that. Then after 5 minutes we are told that a table under a white tent was available and because of a previous experience at that same table where is right next to the street and cars driving at excessive speeds, I don't feel comfortable seating there. So, I told the girl that we would rather wait a bit longer for a patio or inside table. And this immature, rude young person responds, well that's the only table we have. As I said so you are telling me is either that table or nothing and a another girl comes out and asked what was the problem. I explained we are willing to wait for another table but obviously that's not a choice and she said we have lots of reservations. Now the last time I called for reservations I was told they no longer take reservations and it's first come first serve.
