A true hole-in-the-wall Tex-Mex restaurant, the kind that survives in just about any Texas town with a triple-digit population. This location is in a leftover wing of a larger strip mall, not only surviving but doing well since 1994. The interior exists somewhere between Tex-Mex kitsch and border-town authentic, probably hasn't changed since they opened. An enclosed entryway (?) opens to a small interior room with tables and booths. A larger space was built through a knocked-down wall that includes more seating and a bar, so the place is larger than it initially appears. This isn't award-winning Mexican food, nor will it ever appear featured in a glossy magazine. It is plain and simple comfort food, the kind we all grew up eating, the food made for gringos living in rural Texas that they identified as "Mexican" cuisine. There are some traces of authenticity (e.g., menudo) but mostly just the standards. What stands apart is the somewhat extensive menu, particularly the special combos, available seven days a week, lunch and dinner. I counted 33 of them, listed by number and a brief one-line description. Any combination you could possibly think of is covered here and priced pretty much on par with fast food ($7-$8), which makes this a great alternative. Had #12A, two chicken enchiladas with mole sauce, R&B. Each meal is served with chips and salsa and a complementary cup of beans, rounding out good value for the price. I've been here around 10-12 times in the past few years, so I've made my way around the menu. It's overall good; a typical hole-in-the-wall Mexican joint, and with all the Tex-Mex entrees to choose from there's something for everyone. Most of the time I get the chile rellenos with cheese, but they may not be for everyone. They use an authentic Mexican cheese which is stronger and more flavorful than say, Monterrey Jack. Most everything else is fine, if not typical, such as the enchiladas, flautas, and breakfast. The horchata they serve is pretty good too, if you don't know what it is, it's a sweet drink made from rice milk and cinnamon. There are no refills on it, but it is very filling and I can't imagine drinking more than 1 in addition to my meal. The pricing is appropriate for what you're getting, and for the setting the service and atmosphere is what you would expect. Not a bad place, but I wouldn't come running out of my way to eat here since I'm no longer in the area. read more

I've come to this restaurant many times and usually have a good experience, the food is great as always, you get provided with chips and salsa and a small bowl of charro beans which are great!! Margaritas there are super good and strong!! They do lack on customer service. One lady threw our menus on the table and walked away without saying anything. The waitress was very dry, small chat, just not polite at all. Overall food is good, people lack personality. We came here 1 hr before closing and were already cleaning up, so smelled like wet dirty mop and fabuloso. Would come again for the food but would recommend better service. read more

I will admit I am from NYC and tex-mex is not my first cuisine. But once I here, cheese enchiladas became my comfort food dish that I ordered over and over again. Let me state this: CASA NAVARRO HASTHE BEST CHEESE ENCHILADAS I HAVE EVER HAD!! No hyperbole, I devoured my plate and the refritos..... I used my chips to scoop them all up. Best hole in the wall Mexican food in Dallas. Everyone always raves about the complimentary bean soup and it is well deserved. It has just the right amount of spice and really sets a nice tone for the rest of the meal. Everything here is cheap with large sized portions and, most importantly, delicious! One of my favorite dishes is the carne asada. I always request it be topped with monterey jack. The steak is so juicy and flavorful already but topped with cheese it is a mouthful of bliss. My only complaint is you have to ask for rice instead of fries on many dishes. Their fries are actually quite good but if you prefer rice with your Mexican food then make sure you specify. Service is about what you expect at a family owned dive, pretty good all around. The happy hour margaritas are not that big but pack a decent punch and price. read more

I've never been more disrespected in a restaurant as I was here last night. They list closing time as 10 pm. We arrived at 9 pm. They brought out bean soup pretty quickly and chips and salsa followed shortly. After about 10 minutes we asked if we could get tea and water. There we no other customers in the restaurant at all. Then they had another couple come in about 9:20. Then they shut off music. I asked for it to be turned back on and they just laughed and said they were closing. It wasn't even 9:30? When I mentioned that they said oh well if no one is here they get to go home early. I told them there are people here. Us and the other table. Still no music. I ordered the Chile relleno and it was nasty. Pretty sure it had been made days in advance. My wife enchiladas were less than average. The taco was fresh ( just fried taco) The beans and salsa were good but that's it. Never brought us a check which was funny since they wanted to go home so bad. We finally got there attention and paid never to grace there doors again. This place runs much different when the owner is there but unfortunately she wasn't. Simply the best Chicken Mole I've ever had. This is my aunt's favorite so we took a large group on a Sunday night for her birthday. I've been several times before for the beans alone, but tried the mole this time around. This was a 1/4 chicken in a wonderfully thick and chocolatey mole. Very, very good. My co-worker took me here for lunch today and I wasn't too impressed. The one thing I did enjoy tremendously is the free cup of charro beans and their salsa. The chips seemed like they were fried in old oil and the meat in my beef chimichanga was very bland. The refried beans and rice were really good but overall I wouldn't order that again. Better than a 3, but not quite 4. Casa is a pretty cozy little spot. It has a nice home-like feel to it. The staff are always nice and friendly. Great service, your glass will never empty, nor your salsa cup or chips. I usually will come here during lunch with co-workers. It's good Tex-Mex, no surprises. I've been coming here for the last couple of years and the thing I like is that the food is very constant. They have a large menu of just about everything you've heard of that is Tex-Mex. Don't let the outside of this place make you run away like a little girl. It's fine. The only problem I have is that the waitress constantly speaks to me in Spanish. And I don't know...Spanish... But I guess that makes it authentic! Anyways the food is alright. I really only go during the cold winter months and order a bowl of tortilla soup. Just be prepared for a bowl of soup 2 times bigger than your head. It is SOOOOO good. Tons of chicken and melted cheese in it. I'd say the best time to go here is around 4:30 pm right before the dinner crowd gets there. It tends to get really crowded in an already small space. Plus the intersection (Forest and Marsh) is infamous for rush hour traffic accidents. I'd say if you are in the area - try it out. read more

After being here a few more times I'm unimpressed. They charge too much for their food. A teeny tiny side of Pico is $2.00, for example. The Margaritas are terrible, it's the mix they use. Probably in the top 3 worst ever. You shouldn't have to pay for the beans if you decide to share the fajitas or something BASICALLY they should ask if you want them first. I didn't even know there was a charge for the beans and I didn't even eat them, if you didn't order an entree per person. What old world policy is that? Great hole in the wall. We went for a late dinner on Saturday after a day of hanging with friends. We couldn't decide on Mi Cocina or Mattitos and we chose Casa Navarro. I have been in the mood for Carne Guisado lately after having some amazing tacos in San Antonio (Taco Taco, not the same as the one in Dallas, sorry). She ordered the tostados and they were awesome. I tried the beef guisado and mine was merely okay but the bean soup and her entree (too big for her to handle) was perfect for us. I am going to try the enchiladas next time as they looked great. My gf also really liked the margarita, small but tasty. We will be back. read more

Love this place. We eat lunch/dinner there probably 3-4 times per month. The food is really good and cheap. We get excellent service and always come out stuffed. In addition to the chips and salsa that are brought to the table upon arrival, they bring everyone a cup of beans to consume while looking at the menu and deciding what to order. My only complaint is that the tortillas are extra and the carbonated drinks are by the can instead of free refills. read more

This place is excellent and a truly authentic experience. The decor is modest and inviting, without being cliche. We chose this place because it was Memorial Day and the restaurant is veteran owned. We were not disappointed! Our server greeted us right away and took our drink order and returned with a bowl of warm chips and spicy salsa (we are from Louisiana and it was too much for us). We both ordered the Navarro Special and were delighted with the offering of cheese taco, beef enchilada, and enchilada ranchera with smoky tomato and pepper enchilada sauce. The crunchy chicken flauta was served separately with lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole, and cheese and would have made a perfect appetizer or small meal by itself.
