Hands down the best Mexican food in SCV! So glad I found this place a few years ago. Their creamy green salsa is the absolute best ever! No matter.... it took way too long to be served. Our food was very good... carne asada street tacos, chicken enchiladas, rice and beans, nachos, etc. Oh, and they served the nachos appetizer with the meal instead of before like a regular appetizer. The chips and salsa were fair, and the salsa bar lacked a pico de Gallo. The order taker and the servers were nice, but the wait time is bringing down their score. First time here for lunch today. My wife and I both order the same item but I also asked for the red sauce. After reviewing the menu it came down to the Tres Marias enchiladas and the burrito. So, I forgot to take a picture and couldn't wait to get into it. They didn't overload with beans and rice like many places do. It was our first and last time going to Casa Pasilla.The food was decent but not worth the wait or service we received. We were the only table there and it took them 20 minutes to take our order, we had to ask for the service because the employees seem too busy talking to each other to realize they had customers waiting.. After finally having our order taken, it took an additional 40-45 minutes for the food to be served and all we ordered were two micheladas, flautas and a burrito. The micheladas were brought out more than 10 minutes after we orders them. Again we were the ONLY two people in there. The order of flautas are only 4 pieces which means it's just two flautas cut in half, so I don't understand how an appetizer and single burrito could possibly take that long to make. When we were done we asked for the itemized check and the waitress only brought out the card reader for us to pay...AGAIN we sat and waited for a check. My husband and I both worked in the restaurant industry for over 10 years and this is not good customer service. I can only imagine what it's like when they're busy....if they ever actually are. Formerly Rosarito Fresh Mexican Grill, Casa Pasilla captures the essence of authentic Mexican cuisine. The tamarind tea agua fresca was simply perfect: Natural, refreshing, and not overly sweet. The hibiscus agua fresca was the best I've ever had, and that's no exaggeration. What's usually a very tart drink in most cases was an exact blend between sweet, tart, and flavor. Finally, we were treated to an amazing flan with the perfect consistency and caramel flavor, topped with whipped cream! The beans tasted like cheap canned refried beans, the carne asada was lightly sprinkled in there (meaning there was almost none!) and overall it was probably one of the worst burritos I've ever had. The burrito itself cost $15.33. That's absurd. I looked at the receipt i was charged an additional $2 for carne asada, $2 for wet, and $2 for loco (not even sure what that is-- it was a plain burrito only wet!). My hubby got the Carne Asada California burrito which has french fries, meat and cheese and said it was pretty good. You can get your own salsas and they got a good selection. I got 2 Carne Asada tacos and 1 Pork Carnita and added rice and beans for $3 dollars. Both tacos were good and their rice was meeh and beans alright. Next time I will get the taco sampler; which is $14 or $15 bucks. We got the boys a Quesadilla and crunchy Chicken tacos. You can grab your own soda or horchata drink. I went with the michelada and it was good, spicy and cold. Definitely hit the spot after a day at the office. Service was good, dim lighting, tasty salsa, good deals and good food. I didn't have the best first experience but it was by no means terrible and the owner reached out to me and offered to make it right. That's someone who really cares! Unfortunately, the second time the fish was overcooked and the employee much less friendly. Oh well. -- I ordered the fish plate. The positives: The fish was good quality, cooked for the right time, and a good quantity. The red salsa was really great. Quite a unique flavor. I'd come back just for chips and salsa. The Baja sauce, of sorts, was also some of the best I have had. Impressive. The beans and accoutrements (avocado, lettuce, tomato, lime, etc) were fine. The negatives: The fish was *heavily* over seasoned (blackened beyond blackening). Like. There were large black flakes that looked like seaweed flakes--and tasted like them salt-wise! Wayyyy too salty. But this could be fixed next time by asking them to use very little seasoning. The rice was only a half portion. Like. A pretty dismal amount. Enough for maybe 8 bites at the most. My husband asked me to pick dinner and I stumbled across Casa Pasilla on Yelp and it had great reviews, sold. Well I'm sadden and annoyed to say, it was very disappointing. I got the Casa Pasilla burrito (wet) which had more beans and rice and the cheese, was not melted at all. My husband got a combination with a chile relleno and birria taco. Chile Relleno had the smallest piece of cheese, (not melted) the Chile was hard and the birria taco was soggy. My daughter got a California burrito with carne asada and it had more beans, rice, and fries than anything else. My other two younger kids got kids meals quesadilla and a taco asada. My kids barely touched their food. The beans and rice tasted like they had been sitting out all day, no freshness. A waste of $90, you read that right, $90!!! We've been going to Casa Pasilla for a couple years and always had great experiences. But something has changed. Great little "not so secret spot" near Magic Mountain. Probably the best variety of salsas I've seen in a long while with each one more delicious than the last. I had the Burrito Loco wet with Chile verde. It was fantastic, no skimping on the Chile Verde or avocado as this burrito was full of the good stuff.
