This place is good. Driving from SLO to SD, it felt like a nice halfway point for a stop. We were drawn in by the ratings, and I think we came on an off Saturday afternoon. First the good, the food was good, portions were large and prices were reasonable. I got a carnitas quesadilla and a fish taco and my hubby got a California burrito. The carnitas were great. The taco was ok, the fish dwarfed the tortilla and we had to cut it down to be able to eat it. Not a huge problem, but the fried fish could have been more seasoned. The California burrito was as good as any other. And not the not so good... I can only assume they were short staffed. There were no clean cups for salsa, we had to bus our own table (as did all parties that came in after us), the bathroom was out of essentials... Perhaps the thing that dropped the rating the most, when we got our food she said she wasn't sure it was our burrito and asked us to check for her. Uhhh, we bit into it but it was odd and a bit uncomfortable. Overall a cool concept but needs to staff up a bit. read more

I ordered 3 street tacos (Asada, carnitas & Al Pastor), Asada quesadilla and some pickled jalapeños and carrots today. As you can see there is barely any onions and cilantro on the tacos. The only one that had much flavor was the Al Pastor. The carnitas and Asada were bland. The quesadilla was mostly cheese and it came with these tiny cups of guacamole and sour cream. The order of pickled jalapeños with carrots and onion was a small cup with not a whole lot in it and they charge $2 for this thing. The best Mexican food in Santa Clarita, and the best burrito and tacos we've ever had. My wife and I visited for the first time recently and we had to visit a second time with our kids because the food and service were so good. We arrived 30 minutes before close the second time, and although we heard it had been a busy day, the staff were incredibly friendly and polite. In fact, they invited us to stay as long as we wanted AND our server gave us two complimentary flans, which were yummy. The food is served hot, fresh and delicious. I really want this place to be better. I have eaten here twice while in the area for youth ice hockey games. The rink is just up the hill. The first time I ordered four street style tacos to go and took them back to the ice rink. They only gave me three tacos and they were the baja style (with lettuce and cheese). My wife and I still ate them. The tacos were not bad, but they were also not very good. I went back again this past weekend and ate in. My wife got a bean and cheese burrito. She said it was fine. She ordered that thinking they could not screw it up. I ordered two carne asada and two shredded chicken street tacos. They were edible, but really bland. The chicken seemed like boiled chicken breast that was then shredded. The asada was just chopped bits of steak. Again, they were not bad, but also not good. The next time I am at the ice rink, I am going to try the Thai place across the street instead. read more

I don't write many Yelp reviews unless my experience was remarkably horrible or remarkably wonderful. You can see by my five stars though that my visit was wonderful. This wasn't my first time at Casa Pasilla, but I haven't been there in years. It reminded me of something I heard a public speaker say years ago (paraphrasing): Fish & Chips. We all love fish & chips, but most of us don't get them very often. But every time I get fish & chips, my mind is blown because they're so good, and I ask myself why I don't get them more often. That's the experience I had today. Why don't I go to Casa Pasilla more often? As a native So Cal resident, I've been eating Mexican food all my life. My younger opinion was that it's nearly impossible to botch Mexican food and it's all equally good. As a more mature and discriminating man, I've learned that this isn't necessarily true. And today's lunch was proof that there's definitely a vast expanse between "just OK" Mexican food and "amazing" Mexican food. The women at the order counter were very nice. One woman was obviously an owner and the other woman was her new trainee. This on-the-job training was going well and they weren't slowing down the customer experience. I knew the food was going to be good the minute my wife and I sat down with our chips & salsa. The salsa was obviously made in house and so were the chips. The texture of the chips was perfect, and the salsa was better than perfect. When I think of the afterlife (hoping and assuming that I'll go to the good place), I envision myself sitting on a gorgeous beach with my deceased father who will already have a killer tan because he passed years ago and has already been sitting on his heavenly beach so long. I always picture heaven having endless chips & salsa (and hopefully beers). And now I'll picture heaven having these chips & salsa that I enjoyed so much today. I wasn't really paying attention when my wife ordered, but I heard something about "tostada" and "bowl", so I assumed she'd get a small bird-food sized bowl with some lettuce and a little protein. But nope, I was very wrong. She got this large plate with everything that would have been in a tostada except on a plate. It was gorgeous, but she only had half of it because she's not an animal. But I'm an animal and my eyes were bigger than my stomach. I ate my entire signature burrito, the house chile relleno burrito. It couldn't have been more perfect, but I should have taken half of it home. My wife mentioned that she saw a picture of their chiles rellenos and that they looked amazing. I pointed to my plate and told her, "I know. I'm eating one now. I've got the turducken of burritos, the burducken." It's called the Casa Pasilla Burrito and it's incredible. I was planning to stop by Ralphs on the way home to pick up something to make us for dinner this evening, but my wife and I both looked at our lunch plates and said, "We won't be eating dinner tonight after this incredible lunch." Also, I have a pretty high tolerance for poor decor and even slightly questionable hygiene at strip-mall Mexican places. Because of my lowish standards, I was extra impressed with how clean Casa Pasilla was and how nicely they had decorated it. There was no dingy wall full of autographed headshots from Tom Selleck, Freddie Prinze, and Telly Savalas. No, this place was decorated quite nicely and furnished with comfortable tables inside and out. They really did a good job. I don't typically speak to the Manager except for the rare occasion when I go full-Karen with something to complain about. But today I had to go to the counter to tell the manager/owner how much we enjoyed our meal and that we will definitely be meeting here again for lunch more often. read more

Last Sunday we ordered a taco combo & nachos and when I returned home, the beans and rice were missing. While I understand that people make mistakes, I called and spoke with the manager who said she was the owner. She apologized and offered a 5 dollar credit. I agreed to this offer since I was already home and didn't feel like driving back to the restaurant. We decided to use our credit this past Friday. However, when I spoke to the owner this time, she was passive aggressive & tried to offer me extra beans & rice instead of our initial agreement (why do I need extra beans & rice, if I'm ordering the same meal?). At this point, I was adamant about our previously discussed agreement, in which she agreed to follow. When my husband paid for the food there was no five dollar credit. Instead, there was a small bag of chips and extra salsa. Based on some of my past experiences at this restaurant, I noticed this owner nickeling & diming customers for extra condiments. I believe she felt this was sufficient in lieu of our agreement. Wow, this woman did not keep her word! What a lack of integrity. The food is good, but overpriced. And they're stingy with condiments. I'll take my business elsewhere. The owner should really consider treating her customers better so they'll return and spend more money, since every penny counts ;D read more

We get takeout from here almost once a week. The burritos are huge. Big enough for 2 people to split or to save 1/2 for the next day. Also really like the crunchy chicken tacos. I can overlook the fact that they are busy and there is staffing shortage; however, the food quality at this place is absolutely horrendous. Yes. I'm Mexican and grew up on homemade Mexican food from scratch my whole life. Call me a Mexican food snob but I am what I am. I wasn't expecting to find good Mexican food in Valencia but I found this gem down the street from work. I never crave Mexican food but went because my co worker was craving it. I figured I'd give it a try. And I am impressed. I ordered the green chicken enchilada plate and it was the perfect seasoning inside the enchilada which is incredibly important when making them. A true gem in the world of Mexican Food. Start with the deface that everything is homemade -- from the amazing chips that are the best ever, to the multitude of hot sauces, to the great meals. The Birria and Dorado tacos were the best ever, as was the chiliaquiles. Everything was fresh, extremely tasty, and properly prepared. Loved how Carlos brought us large containers of 4 different hot sauces to go with the tacos. We also tried the fried ice cream, which large and beautifully presented. Would happily drive 30 minutes for this truly outstanding food. The restaurant is small compared to many restaurants, but comfortable, clean and well decorated. The restroom was also spotless. Came to this place on my friend's recommendation. Having lived in Santa Clarita all my life, I was surprised to find a restaurant that I hadn't heard of before. At first glance, the place gives off those perfect, family-owned, "hole in the wall" vibes where you just know you're going to be getting authentic cuisine. Food wise, the chips and salsa were fantastic and the steak burrito that I ordered was tasty and reasonably priced. My friend, however, ordered the taquito and taco combo which looked even better than what I got. We also tried a few of their desserts which were absolutely delicious.
