After all the years I finally went to Casa Ramos. Let me start with I'm deathly allergic to all fish and shellfish (my body produces too much iodine and all of that is high in iodine) so I carry an epipen. It's a good thing because 3 chips in I asked the server if they use different different deep fryers for seafood than they do for other foods. Nope! They use the same for everything they fry. With my throat a bit itchy I stopped munching on chips (the best thing about going to any Mexican Restaurant) and looked over the menu. The selection became extremely slim for me but I was there with a friend so I didn't want to suggest another place. The server wasn't very attentive and they weren't busy at all. People did start piling in as we were ready to leave. The food I had was ok. Nothing special and lacked flavor. I will say the salsa was pretty good. I would love to be able to try other things but unless they add a fryer that's only used for foods that aren't fish or seafood, I won't be able to do that. The decor definitely makes you feel like you're in a Mexican Cantina. It looks pretty cool. read more

Outstanding! We stopped in to take food back to our cabin to have later. While we waited, we enjoyed very delicious margaritas! We came here based on the Yelp reviews backed up with a recommendation from friends who live in Heber. They were both right on - This place is really good! The service was prompt and friendly. I had a Chicken enchilada and my wife had a Crab enchilada - admittedly not that hard to do - but they were both wonderful. The portions were generous and we left with two boxes for a future lunch. The Chips and Salsa appeared to be home made and the salsa had some real zing. Our friend raves about the margaritas but for this visit we stuck with the dark Negra Modelo beer. It was a surprise to learn that they offered Sopapillas and they were some of the best we've had - don't miss 'em! read more

Burned chips! My favorite thing about any Mexican restaurant is chips , salsa, queso, etc. The chips at Casa Ramos are terrible. I live in Heber and have been there many times. The chips are always burned. I complained and asked for some that weren't burned and was told they were all the same, that they make them all first thing in the morning and keep them in an oven all day to stay warm. I can't come to Heber and not hit up Casa Ramos. This place is top notch. I have a lot of love for the tacky decorations, ambiance, and layout. Not a large place by any means. There are booths and some oddly decorated tables (they decorate for each holiday) and are always friendly. There aren't many restaurant options on the Rim and I need my protein bean fix. The food is quality. By no means the best Mexican food in AZ, but it gets the job done! Service is fast and attentive. The wine is horrible and beers a little flat. I always give Heber restaurants a little more lenience, though, as it's tough in a small town. If you are on the highway and want some food made with love and fast service, give it a try. These local businesses here need some love to keep them going. read more

As my sister and I were traveling through the mountains of Arizona, we started to feel a bit peckish in the vicinity of Heber. Since we didn't know anything about the area, we decided to stop at the restaurant with the most cars parked outside. Casa Ramos it was! As we walked inside, we were greeted by bright colors and entertaining decor. I couldn't help but laugh at the green shamrocks plastered over the already exciting Mexican theme. We were seated and served up some chips and salsa in no time. Good thing we got there when we did because Casa Ramos filled up with locals in no time. The menu is huge, so take your time. I opted for a "small" plate of an enchilada and a taco, with beans and rice on the side. My sister went for the three enchilada plate. Holy moly, Casa Ramos was not kidding around! Both of our dishes were massive! So much food for the price! And everything was really quite tasty. I was very pleased with our discovery of this place. Been coming here for a while and I notice the food portions shrinking. Less meat in the entrees and the guacamole is heavily loaded with lettuce. In addition, The service is not good, the lady at the front (owner) couldn't care less about customer service. I ordered a beef dish and got chicken. When I told her, she just stared at me. We were underwhelmed by the food and service. Two of us had the combination dinners, so we tried the chimichanga, tamale, burrito, and enchilada. The green chile pork filling was a bit dry and I had one bite of slimy fat instead of meat. The rice and beans that accompanied these dinners were so-so. If you want sour cream and/or guacamole to go with the combo dinners, you will be charged $2.00 which seems overpriced. The third person ordered the carne colorado burrito and said it was fine, not excellent. The house margaritas were huge and had a good flavor, but the tequila was scant. We asked that our take-out food arrive 30 minutes after ordering so that we could enjoy our margaritas, but it arrived very quickly which meant we had lukewarm food by the time we finished our drinks and drove home. read more

If you're in Heber check this place out. My wife says it has been there for some time but they have expanded. We enjoyed a good deal with the lunch menu, I had Aroz Camarones, delicious. Good food, good prices and a nice break from the road if traveling. An added bonus is they have Carta Blanca, one of my favorite Mexican beers. Good service, fast not super-friendly, but efficient. Has a clean, nice decor with a few unusual touches you don't see in the chain locations. This place is family run and they started in Heber-Overgaard, then they decided to take on the valley. They have a huge menu with lots of the usual combos. The chips are good with homemade fresh salsa with a kick, one flavor fits all. Prices aren't cheap but the portions are huge. Best best is to split a combo. Had the seafood enchiladas and couldn't finish the rice & beans. Definitely one of the better choices in HO. read more

I will put this in plain language. The food is good and the service is bad, It's that simple. Like about a third of the people on this review section of Casa Ramos, I too take umbrage with their service. Our female servers were friendly with "certain" tables, I'll put it that way. But with us they acted like they were doing us a favor getting us a place to sit and take our order. Never asked if we wanted more water, never came by the table without being flagged down, chocolate milk for kids was spoiled, and just seemed angry we were there. Others on the review site have said the same. HOWEVER the food was fantastic. I ordered the seafood chimi and it was flavorful, had plenty of prawns and octopus in it, and was crisp and LARGE in serving size. My wife's loved her entree as well. Our food was delivered my him, that was the last we saw of him until he gave us our check. Never asked how things were or filled our drinks. In spite of that the food was very good. When we come to Heber this is the best and most authentic Mexican restaurant in town. It can be crowded on Sat evening, so waiting might happen. The food is good, nice atmosphere, drinks galore but it's a bit pricey, they charge for extra chips and salsa. It can also be very noisy, the locals love this place and whole groups come here. Cheese crisps with green chilies are deep fried, but very tasty. Along with the Mexican food staples, they also serve a wide variety of seafood, my favorite is a dish made with shrimp and mushrooms. I had always stopped here on my way to my cabin in Showlow. The service here was so slow, and nobody took our order for drinks until 15 minutes after sitting down. By then, we were ready to give our full order so we did. After 30 Minutes of us, a family of 4, sitting there wondering where our food is, they finally brought our food out. Now, I have to give their proportions credit because you do get quite a bit of food. I ordered a cheese enchilada and a bean burrito, as I'm vegetarian. After I began eating, I realized that nothing tasted right. The enchilada tasted like there was nothing else but cheese, and the burrito barely had cheese. Not to mention, drinks were $3 each! The greatest Mexican food, and we were not expecting it at all! Every Mexican place north of the valley tends to disappoint, but Casa Ramos is better than what you can find in the Valley! The green chili pork was absolutely amazing, and the kids got chicken fingers and French fries and they were exactly what you want the chicken fingers to look like, and the French fries were outstanding! Not great. Not horrible. I had the shredded beef chimi and the beef had no seasoning and the chimi no sauce. It was dry and even adding sour cream didn't help much. Boyfriend had the enchiladas and said they were just ok. Another person in our group reported the mole was really good but 1 out of 3 dishes doesn't exactly make you want to try again. I was here this past weekend with my girlfriend and my mother. We were having a weekend getaway at a friends cabin. We wanted a late lunch early dinner so we decided to try this place out. I had never been before but my mom said it was pretty good. It was a nice place. Not too busy. The décor was nice but it seemed like it was someones version of what they thought Mexican décor was but not authentic stuff. I little too cartoony if that makes any sense. The chips were pretty good but the salsa was just ok. Could have been fresh made could have been out of a jar it was hard to tell. I ordered the Super Enchilada and it was good but not super. My girlfriend got a Chimi and said the same thing good but not great. It need sauce covering it or cheese or something, My mom got the Mole Burrito she said it was really good. So maybe I ordered the wrong thing or expect more from food or she is easily impressed. Don't know which. If you want to go out for Mexican and you are in Heber this is pretty much your only choice. For being the only choice it is good. It could be horrible. But in the world of Mexican food it just wasn't impressive. It just didn't have that wow this is really good I would come up here just for this flavor. It was good though and the prices weren't too bad either. Heber is definitely one of those towns I wasn't aware existed until I moved to Arizona, so tiny I was surprised it even gets its own name. There's not alot to do there, fish and hike I suppose, but only a handful of restaurants, a dollar store, a hardware store, not much to see really. But what Heber/Overgaard DOES have is some of the best vegetarian fajitas I've ever tasted. The kind that are so good that I am sure my memory is exaggerating their deliciousness, but every time I return to try them they exceed my expectations. Its not super fancy, isn't a dive, is just a standard looking mexican restaurant with the best fajitas I've had anywhere.
